Diamond's Pokémon Adventure

26. Psyched for a Psychic Gym Battle

Morning came in Saffron City. Inside the Pokémon Center, Diamond changed into the outfit her father gave her. She and her traveling companions got together for breakfast.
"Any information on the gym leader here, Babs?" Diamond asked.
"Yup." Babs replied. "The Gym Leader is named Sabrina. This young lady specializes in Psychic Pokémon."
"Wow. Sounds like a pretty tough customer. I better do a little exchanging with Professor Oak."
After talking with Professor Oak, Diamond and her friends head for the gym.
"So, what was the exchange?" Silver asked.
"I exchanged Venusaur for Staryu." Diamond replied. "Grass Pokémon are vulnerable to Psychic attacks."
"You are correct." A young lady said.
The girls were greeted by a lady with long green hair and wearing a magenta top with black tigths and gray boots.
"Hello, miss." Silver said proudly, "May we help you?"
"I am the one who I believe you're looking for." The woman said.
"You are Sabrina?" Diamond asked.
"Correct, my barefoot friend. I have listened to your conversation with your friends. You are looking forward to battling me in an official gym battle."
"Yes, ma'am. I have five badges so far. And, I am ready to win my sixth."
"I do like your positive attitude. We shall make it a four on four battle. Ladies, follow me."
The group followed Sabrina into a domed building. Inside there are young people watching. Babs and Silver joining them. With Eevee by her side, Diamond is ready to face Sabrina with a young black haired girl wearing a red gown acting as referee.
"Are you ready, Diamond Tiara?' Sabrina asked.
"Ready when you are." Diamond replied.
"Then, here comes my first Pokémon. Go, Mr. Mime!"
Out came what looked like a pantomime actor. Curious, Diamond used her Pokédex. Mr. Mime, the Barrier Pokémon. This unusual Pokémon uses pantomime actions to create invisible walls.
Diamond calls for her first Pokémon. "Let's go, Staryu!"
Staryu comes out. Mr. Mime uses it's acting to mock Diamond. She didn't find that amusing. "Staryu, Rapid Spin!"
Staryu spins fast. Sabrina reacted. "Mr. Mime, use Light Screen!"
Mr. Mime created a light barrier to lesson the blow of Rapid Spin . The Barrier Pokémon ridicules Diamond again.
"That Mr. Mime is mean." Babs said.
Some of the youngsters in the gym thought it's funny. Diamond strikes back. "Staryu, use Bubble Beam!"
Staryu fired a stream of water at Mr. Mime. Though struck hard, Sabrina's Pokémon is still standing.
"Mr. Mime," Sabrina said, "use Psybeam!"
Mr. Mime fired a beam of psychic energy to Staryu. The Starshape Pokémon took some damage from the Light Screen. Soon, Staryu fainted.
"Staryu is unable to battle." The young girl announced. "Mr. Mime wins."
"Staryu, return." Diamond said as she recalled her Pokémon.
Mr. Mime continues to mock Diamond. Sabrina talks to her Pokémon. "That's not nice. Never tease any opponent."
It made Diamond feel a little better seeing Mr. Mine is getting lectured. Seeing that he's still wet from the bubble beam, Diamond calls her next Pokémon. "Let's go, Pikachu!"
Pikachu comes out as Sabrina makes her move. "Mr. Mime, Psybeam."
Seeing the Light Screen is gone, Diamond made her move. "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu's electric attack struck Mr. Mime. Still a bit wet, the Barrier Pokémon soon fainted.
"Mr. Mime is unable to battle." The girl announced. "Pikachu wins."
Diamond cheered for Pikachu as Sabrina recalls Mr. Mime.
"I apologize for Mr. Mime's actions." Sabrina said. "He likes to mock my opponents and some of the youngsters here applaud his antics."
"Yeah. He thinks I'm just a pushover." Diamond figured.
"Anyway, here's my second Pokémon. Go, Slowbro!"
Out pops a Slowpoke with a shell on it's tail. The Pokédex comes alive with information. Slowbro, the Hermit Crab Pokémon and the evolved form of Slowpoke. After a Shellder bites it's tail, the poison causes it to be more scatterbrained.
Before Diamond can battle, Sabrina strikes. "Slowbro, use Zen Headbutt!"
Slowbro rushed in with it's head glowing. Diamond quickly reacted. "Dodge, then use Thunder Wave."
After avoiding Slowbro, Pikachu sent some electricity to the water/psychic type.
"My Pokémon can fight through your Thunder Wave." Sabrina informed. "Slowbro, use Water Pulse."
Just when Slowbro fired it's water attack, Diamond struck back. "Use Thunderbolt on that water!"
Pikachu used it's electric power on the Water Pulse. The electricity was carried over to Slowbro. The Hermit Crab Pokémon succumbed to the attack, and fainted.
"Slowbro is unable to battle." The black haired maiden announced. "Pikachu wins!"
"Slowbro, return." Sabrina said. She looked at Diamond and Pikachu and made a choice. "Electrical power may not stop my third Pokémon. Go, Jynx!"
Out comes a human like creature with blond hair and what looks like a red dress.
"A Jynx." Diamond gasped as she pulls out her Pokédex. "The Human shape Pokémon."
Jynx, the Human Shape Pokémon. The Pokédex said. Jynx can distract opponents with her dance type movements.
"Pikachu, return." Diamond said as she chooses her next Pokémon. "Let's go, Ninetales!"
When Ninetales came out, everybody was in love with this Pokémon. Babs and Silver were surprised with this reaction.
"I'm impressed with the reaction." Babs said.
"You can't blame us." One of the young males said. "Ninetales is one of the most beautiful Pokémon we've ever seen."
Sabrina resumed the battle. "Let's see if your Ninetales can handle this. Jynx, use Ice Punch!"
Jynx covered her first with ice before hitting Ninetales. Being a fire type, Ninetales wasn't affected too bad.
"Ninetales," Diamond called out, "use Confuse Ray."
The eyes of Ninetales glowed red. Jynx got affected as Sabrina watched her dancing crazily.
"Okay, Ninetales." Diamond said. "Use Flamethrower!"
Ninetales blew a stream of fire at Jynx. Being partially an ice type, the Human Shape Pokémon soon fainted from the heat.
"Jynx is unable to battle." The young maiden announced. "Ninetales wins."
Diamond cheered as she hugs Ninetales. Sabrina recalls her Jynx and turns to her opponent.
"I admire your knowledge." Sabrina said. "You figured that since Jynx is partially an ice type, flame based attacks are very effective."
"Thank you, Sabrina." Diamond proudly replied.
"Now, here comes my fourth and final Pokémon. Go, Alakazam!"
Out pops a larger version of Kadabra holding two spoons. Diamond learns of this Pokémon from her Pokédex. Alakazam, the Psi Pokémon and the evolved form of Kadabra. It uses it's high intelligence to control it's psychic power.
This left Babs shocked. "So, that's what my Kadabra will evolve into."
Diamond formulated a plan. She recalled Ninetales and brought back Pikachu. "Pikachu, use Quick Attack!"
Pikachu zipped as fast as a bullet. Sabrina countered. "Alakazam, Psycho Cut!"
Alakazam fired hooks of psychic energy. Pikachu avoided them all.
"Time to switch things up." Diamond said. "Pikachu, use Thunder Wave!"
Getting close enough, Pikachu sent electricity to Alakazam.
"We shall still win." Sabrina claimed. "Alakazam, use Psychic NOW!"
Alakazam blasted Pikachu with psychic energy so strong, the electrical Mouse Pokémon fainted.
"Pikachu is unable to battle." The girl announced. *Alakazam wins!"
"Pikachu, return." Diamond said as she recalls her friend. "You set the stage perfectly. Now, just rest." She then turns to Eevee. "Okay, Eevee. Your time to shine."
Eevee steps in to battle. Everybody thinks it's an easy win as Sabrina speaks up. "That little fellow is no match for us. Alakazam, use Psybeam!"
Alakazam soon felt electric surges. Pikachu's Thunder Wave kicks in. Diamond takes advantage of this. "Let's do this, Eevee. Use Bite!"
Eevee rushed in and took a huge bite into Alakazam's head. Since Bite is a Dark type move, it was super effective. Seconds later, Alakazam fainted.
"Alakazam is unable to battle." The girl announced. "Eevee wins. The winner of this Gym Battle is Diamond Tiara!"
"YAY! Good work, Eevee!" Diamond cheered as Eevee jumped into her arms.
Sabrina helped Alakazam to his feet before she recalls him. She then walks up to Diamond as Silver Spoon and Babs Seed join their friend.
"Well done, Diamond Tiara." Sabrina said proudly. "Me and my associates are impressed with your skills and Pokémon knowledge. You have truly earned the Marsh Badge."
Diamond was given a marigold circular badge with a yellow center. She was very happy. "Thank you, Sabrina. This is Badge number six."
Soon, the trio of friends will make plans to continue their journey.
