On the day after Twilight and her friends (except Fluttershy) completed their trial in Verdant Cavern, Ash and his friends were ready for Hala's grand trial which is a battle. Ash decided to let Princess Twilight Sparkle battle first so that she can experience her first battle against someone. Before the battle begins Rainbow Dash looked around and saw that Fluttershy is not here.

"Hey, where's Fluttershy?" Rainbow said.

"She is still trying to catch that Chinchou she saw." Rotom said.

Sunset sighed and said "I hope that she can catch it this time."

"I hope so too darling." Rarity said.

Before they could say more Kukui called Twilight up.

"Twilight, are you ready?" Kukui said.

Twilight sighed and said "Ready as I'll ever be."

And soon her battle against kahuna Hala begins.

Kukui stepped forward and said "Attention competitors, the grand trial between kahuna Hala and Princess Twilight Sparkle will now get underway. Each side will have the use of 2 Pokémon and the battle will be over when either sides Pokémon are unable to battle."

"It's truly an honor to battle you." Both Hala and Twilight said.

"Now please bring out your Pokémon." Kukui said.

"Buneary, let's go!" Twilight said as she used her magic to throw her pokeball and out comes her Buneary.

"Crabrawler, come out!" Hala said as he also threw his pokeball and out comes a new Pokémon that they have never seen before.

"Crabrawler?" Ash said with a confused look on his face.

"That Pokémon looks awesome!" Rainbow Dash said.

"But what is Crabrawler?" Applejack said. "Rotom partner?"

"My greatest pleasure!" Rotom said.

After Crabrawler's pokedex entry Rotom also said that Buneary is at a disadvantage against fighting types because it is a normal type. When Twilight heard that she said to the group "I'll just have to give it all I got everypony."

"All right, battle begin!" Kukui said.

"Crabrawler use bubblebeam!" Hala said as his Pokémon shoots bubbles from its claws heading towards Twilight's Buneary.

"Buneary, dodge it then use quick attack!" Twilight said to her Pokémon.

Buneary surrounded itself in a white light and moves at a fast pace and it hit Crabrawler.

"Yes!" Shouted Twilight.

"That was a direct hit!" Rotom said.

"Very nice Twilight. But how about this? Crabrawler grab Buneary and use brutal swing!" Hala said.

Just as when Crabrawler was about to grab Buneary Twilight said "Well how about this move? Buneary use double team!"

Then Buneary created copies of itself and surrounded the fighting type Pokémon. Crabrawler is confused to find the real Buneary.

"Good, now use swift!" Twilight said.

Then the Buneary's launched star-shaped projectiles and Crabrawler took damage from that.

"That was awesome thinking Twilight!" Rainbow said.

"Thanks, but it's not over yet." Twilight said.

"Indeed." Hala said. "Use Power-up punch!" 

One of Crabrawler's fists got surrounded in an orange aura and is ready to punch Buneary but Twilight's Buneary countered it with pound but the power-up punch was too powerful and it hit Buneary and also it's attack power went up.

"Buneary, are you okay?" Twilight said.

Soon Buneary got up and shook off the attack.

"Now use power-up punch again!" Hala said as Crabrawler charged again.

"Not falling for that one again! Buneary use pound rapidly!" Twilight said.

Both Pokémon are fighting off the attacks but thanks to Twilight's smart thinking Buneary used double team again and used quick attack to finally defeat Crabrawler.

"Crabrawler is unable to battle!" Kukui said.

Hala returned Crabrawler to it's pokeball and said "You did your best."

Then Twilight returned her Pokémon to it's pokeball and brought out her next Pokémon: Beldum. And Hala called his next Pokémon: Hariyama. When the second part of the battle begins Twilight tried her best to use several take downs attacks but, Hariyama took little damage and soon after several attacks from Hariyama, Twilight's Beldum was defeated.

"Beldum is unable to battle!" Kukui said.

Twilight returned Beldum to it's pokeball and said "You did your best too."

Then Twilight brought back out her Buneary which was a little tired.

Pinkie Pie who looked nervous said to the group "I'd wondered how Twilight and her Buneary will be able to defeat that big Pokémon."

Sunset looked down at her and said "Don't worry Pinkie I'm sure Twilight will find a way."

After a few minutes of battling Hala used his own Z move to finish off Buneary.

"Is that a Z move?!" Twilight said.

"Correct!" Hala said. "I am the kahuna. I make the wills of myself, Melemele, and Tapu Koko as one. I am the kahuna! This is the moment where our strengths combine into one!"

"Here it comes." Kukui said.

"Get ready Buneary!" Twilight said.

"All-out pummeling! Let's go!" Hala shouted.

As Hariyama used it's Z move Twilight's Buneary used quick attack and double team to get past the Z move attack. After the attack Buneary was nowhere in sight.

"Where did it go?" Rainbow said.

"I know where it is!" Pinkie said. "It went underground!"

"Underground?" Spike said.

"But that means..." Ash said.

"Right." Rotom said. "It learned dig."

Then suddenly it attacked Hariyama when it came up from the ground.

"Good job Buneary!" Twilight said. "Now let's finish this off with our Z move!"

After some poses it unleashed the normal type Z move called breakneck blitz and after some serious damage Hariyama was defeated.

"Hariyama is unable to battle!" Kukui said. "Which means the victor is Twilight!"

Ash, the ponies, Spike and Sunset came up to congratulate Twilight for her battling skills. Then Fluttershy came flying towards the group.

"Girls, I've finally caught it!" Fluttershy excitedly said.

But the others were so excited to see Twilight win the battle that they didn't see Fluttershy.

"Oh... Fluttershy. Sorry we didn't see you." Twilight said.

"That's okay Twilight." Fluttershy said. "So what did I miss?

"You missed Twilight's amazing battle against Hala and she won!" Rainbow Dash said.

"Well congrats Twilight." Fluttershy said.

Then she remembered what she was going to say to her friends.

"Oh, guys I've caught it." Fluttershy said as she threw her pokeball into the air and out comes a Chinchou.

Sunset was surprised and said "Wow you finally caught it!"

Then Hala walked forward toward the group and said "Sorry to interrupt but I need to see Twilight."

Then Twilight walked toward Hala and he said "That was a great battle we had and I think this belongs to you."

Hala was holding an orange Z crystal and he gave it to Twilight and told Twilight that it is the fighting type Z crystal.

"Thanks Hala." Twilight said.

After Twilight's tough battle against Hala she won her next Z crystal but she still wants to become a mega evolution master. After Hala gets his Pokémon healed up it was Ash's turn to face Hala. But an even greater challenge was waiting for Ash, Twilight and their friends.
