While Ash and his new friends were enjoying their time in the Alola region Ash caught another Pokémon called a Litten while Fluttershy was still searching for the Chinchou she saw yesterday but she still did not caught it. As for Twilight, Spike and Sunset they were searching for some new Pokémon with the Rotom Dex while Ash and the other ponies were at the Pokémon School when they saw a tail moving around in the tall grass.

"Can you identify what Pokémon is there Rotom?" Sunset said.

"Sure thing Sunset." The Rotom Dex said.

After scanning it's tail the Rotom Dex said that it is a Growlithe which is a fire type, but just as Sunset was about to catch it a boy stopped her.

"STOP!" said the boy. "This Growlithe is my Pokémon.

"Oh..." Sunset said. "I'm sorry I thought it was a wild Pokémon."

"That's okay." said the boy.

But the Rotom Dex showed her where to find more Growlithes living in the wild.

"Lead the way Rotom." Sunset said.

As they were walking Twilight was thinking about something and Spike realized it.

"Twilight, what are you thinking about?" Spike said.

Twilight looked at her assistant and said " Well I was thinking about the mega stone that we found on the day that Sunset came here."

"And what about it?" Spike said.

"Well, Z moves are a special thing in Alola but I was thinking about being a mega evolution master instead." Twilight said

"Well we'll see what the Professor said." Spike said.

"We're here." The Rotom Dex said.

Sunset looked around and said "Is this where I can catch a Growlithe Rotom?"

"Of course Sunset and I can detect one is coming this way right now." Rotom said.

And Rotom was right a Growlithe came out of the bushes looking for an opponent to battle against it. So Sunset brought out her Lapras and after some super effective water type moves the Growlithe was down and soon Sunset threw her poke ball at the Pokémon and after a couple of shakes she caught it.

When they went back to the entrance of the Pokémon School the three of them saw their friends coming toward them and also the Professor came toward them as well.

"Professor, can I ask you something?" Twilight said.

Kukui smiled at her and said "Sure Twilight. What do you want to talk to me about?"

As they walked back to the lab Twilight told Kukui about letting her become a mega evolution master instead of using Z moves.

"Sure, you can use mega evolution here in the Alola region as well." Kukui said.

When Twilight heard that she was happy and thanked the Professor. But she said "Where can I learn about which Pokémon can mega evolve?"

"I was hoping you would say that." Kukui said.

So he went over to the bookshelf and grabbed a book from one of the shelves and gave it to Twilight and said "It's a book about which Pokémon can mega evolve and which mega stones you need."

"Thanks Professor." Twilight said.

A couple of days later Ash told Kukui about trying out those Z moves again by going through the Island Challenge. But later that morning a group of alolan Rattata and Raticate were eating all of the food from the garden and from the store so Ash, Twilight and Rainbow Dash decided to help but Hala only needed one person to help so Ash decided to help. Twilight was okay with that but Rainbow Dash was upset.

"Don't worry Rainbow you, Twilight and your friends shall watch the trial at the cave and then after we clear all the Rattata and the Raticate it will be your turn to do the trial, okay?" Kahuna Hala said.

Rainbow sighed and said "Okay."

Soon they all went to the cave to watch Ash do his trial and it was bigger than they thought.

"Totem Pokémon Gumshoos! You have a trial goer do your duty and grant him his trial." Hala said.

After Ash introduced himself Pikachu and the Rotom dex heard some movement coming toward him and there comes a Yungoos and a regular Gumshoos.

"Are they Totem Pokémon?" Ash asked Hala.

"No Ash they are not. They are the Totem Pokémon's allies. You will still have to battle them however." Hala said.

After the pokedex entries of both Yungoos and Gumshoos Ash decides to bring out both Pikachu and Rowlet. When the battle begins the two normal types used sand attack to hide and then attacked both Pikachu and Rowlet then before their second attack Pikachu and Rowlet both dodged it and Rowlet used leafage so that it and Pikachu can hide as well. Then Pikachu used Iron tail and Rowlet used Tackle and soon they were both defeated but then a huge Gumshoos came out.

"There, that Gumshoos is definitely a totem sized Pokémon!" Hala said.

Ash was surprised and said "It's... so big!"

"Unreal! This one is 3 times the size of the previous Gumshoos!" Rotom dex said.

Both Pikachu and Rowlet were having a tough time and Rowlet got defeated when it got Pikachu out of a jam. Now it's down to Pikachu and Totem Gumshoos. Pikachu used its best moves but Gumshoos used some tricks by using sand attack to knock away the electro ball and then using rock throw when Pikachu's back was turned. Then when Pikachu used quick attack and Ash told Pikachu to use the sand attack to hide itself and then it attacked Gumshoos with multiple attacks and finished it off with thunderbolt and soon Gumshoos was defeated.

"This trial is over. I declare the victor to Ash." Hala said

When Totem Gumshoos got up it gave Ash a Z crystal and soon when Ash asked the 3 normal types to get rid of all the Rattata and Raticate they all agreed. When they have arrived at the store Kukui and officer Jenny opened up the doors and soon the normal types took care of all of the Rattata and Raticate and they all ran off somewhere. Soon tomorrow will be the ponies turn to face Totem Gumshoos and Ash will face his grand trial which will be a battle against Hala.
