Devotionals To A Frozen Goddess

by Undome Tinwe

I lit a candle in my brain

I lit a candle in my brain
In memory of you
The fire seared the thoughts right out
Just like you said to do

You taught me all I ever knew
Before you let me loose
From reading, writing, 'rithmetic
To how to tie a noose

I look back now, it’s clear as day
Why I prefer the night
Beneath the Sun I spoke but lies
To everyone’s delight

But afterwards, in moonlight's shade
Your lessons came to life
To take what's mine by right or might
With Subtlety's own knife

And as the years passed on and on
Your image I was made
A monster with a heart of ice
Reliant on your aid

So when you left, of course I fell
The world turned into ash
I wished that I had died instead
My life gone in a flash

The candle flickers, running out
I’m nothing on my own
So I’ll become a shell for you
When I ascend the throne
