// 5. A New Companion Joins Up 
// Story: Diamond's Pokémon Adventure

After her victory at the Pewter City Gym, Diamond Tiara has Eevee and Bulbasaur healed. Meanwhile, she changed out of the outfit her father gave her. She now wears a red short sleeve shirt and a pair of bib overalls.
"I should thank Applejack for giving me these overalls for me birthday." Diamond said as she rolled up the cuffs of her overalls. "Apple Bloom was happy seeing me like this."
As she was heading back to her table, Nurse Joy gave her some good news. "Your Pokémon are all healed."
"Thank you, Nurse Joy." Diamond replied.
Eevee happily jumped into her arms. Soon, they look over their map.
"I guess we should head down Route 3." Diamond figured. "That leads to an area called Mt. Moon."
After strapping on her backpack and grabbing her duffle bag, she and Eevee are ready to travel. Hidden at another table, the brutal Holly Prema watches with mistrust.
"That little turncoat." Holly said to herself. "Now, she's dressed as a barefoot farm girl. Somebody should teach her to learn her place." She then stood up. "And, that somebody is ME!"
Holly walks out and plans her attack. Back in Canterlot, Spoiled Rich looks over her map of Kanto. She places a sticker with a number 1 made of stone on an area marked Pewter City. "There. That's perfect."
Soon, Filthy Rich walks in and sees this activity.
"Up to something, honey?" Filthy asked.
"Indeed, I am." Spoiled replied. "Diamond sent me a picture of herself, Eevee, and a Bulbasaur. She said in her message that she won a Pokémon Gym Badge in Pewter City."
"Ah. So, our little princess is taking on the Gym Challenge."
"That's right. Now, she has one badge. She'll need seven more badges to take part in the Pokémon League." A thought then came to her. "Did Diamond pack any extra clothes besides that outfit you put together?"
"She sure did. You'd be surprised at what she brought with her."
This got Spoiled Rich thinking. "I wonder if these clothes will reflect her new barefoot tomboy attitude."
Meanwhile, in a small little treehouse at Sweet Apple Acres, The Cutie Mark Crusaders gathered for a meeting.
"Gang," Apple Bloom said, "my cousin, Babs Seed has arrived in Kanto."
"Why is she there?" Scootaloo wondered. "Is she starting a Pokémon journey?"
"I don't think so. I think she's visiting relatives."
"Maybe she can join a trainer on his or her journey." Sweetie Belle figured.
Apple Bloom never thought of that. Back in Kanto, Diamond Tiara is facing a bug catcher who is going to call on a Pokémon. "Come out, Kakuna!"
Out pops a yellow cocoon. Diamond's Pokédex comes alive with information. Kakuna, the cocoon Pokémon and the evolved form of Weedle. This Pokémon endures greatly before it evolves.
Diamond knows who to call for. "Pidgey, I choose you!"
Her Pidgey comes out and is ready for battle.
"Pidgey," Diamond calls out, "use Gust!"
Pidgey flaps it's wings hard. But, the bug catcher won't quit. "Kakuna, use Poison Sting!"
Kakuna fired poisonous needles at Pidgey. But, the Tiny Bird Pokémon flew away. Suddenly, it's wings glowed and Pidgey struck at Kakuna. Soon as Kakuna fainted, the bug catcher realized what happened. "I think your Pidgey learned Wing Attack!"
This shocked Diamond a lot. But, she was very happy. As she hugged Pidgey, the bug catcher recalled Kakuna, and left. Diamond and Eevee continued to look around Route 3. Soon, they saw an orange lizard with a flame on it's tail. 
"What a sight!" Diamond said as she pulls out her Pokédex. "A Charmander!"
 Charmander, the Lizard Pokémon. The Pokédex said. The fire on the tip on it's tail indicate how healthy it is.
Diamond thought about how she caught Bulbasaur. Just as she was getting out a Razz Berry, she noticed that Charmander was already eating a berry. Suddenly, a Poké Ball absorbed Charmander. After a few shakes, the ball clicked.
"I wonder who caught this Charmander." Diamond wondered.
"I caught it." Said a teenage girl voice.
Out steps a girl with short red hair. She has on a green shirt over a white tank top, light green shorts, and brown boots. She soon sees Diamond. "Hey, Diamond Tiara. This is a nice surprise."
"Babs Seed!" Diamond gasped. "Wow!"
The two girls hugged each other. Soon, they talked to each other.
"I heard you're on a Pokémon journey." Babs Seed said. "Is that true?"
"You heard right." Diamond replied. "I'm here to prove to my mother I can do something on my own." Eevee soon came to the girls. "And, Eevee here is my traveling companion."
"You have an Eevee? Cool. Did you catch other Pokémon?"
"Yes. I also have Pidgey, Pikachu, and Bulbasaur."
Babs Seed's eyes widened. "You have a Bulbasaur? Wow! Awesome!"
"Indeed. And, I won my first Gym Badge."
"So, tackling the Gym Challenge. Huh?"
"Yup. And, I need seven more badges to enter the Pokémon League."
This gives Babs an Idea. "How about I tag along with you?"
"Really?" Diamond replied. "You want to travel with me?"
"Why not. Since you have on clothing my cousin, Apple Bloom, would wear, nobody will know that you're part of that wealthy bunch back home."
Babs has a point. With the clothes Diamond has on, she would look like just another traveler.
"Babs, you have a deal." Diamond said.
As the two girls shook hands, a little bird with raggedy head feathers showed up. Diamond took out her Pokédex.
Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokémon. The Pokédex said. Never backing out of a fight, this Pokémon is tougher than it looks. Ever more dangerous in a flock.
Taking out a Poké Ball, Babs took aim at Spearow. She then tossed her Poké Ball, the ball connected, and absorbed Spearow. The girls watched the ball click to say that the capture is done.
"Now, my Charmander has a playmate." Babs Seed said happily.
Diamond now has a traveling companion to accompany her across Kanto.
