//------------------------------// // I need to tell you... // Story: Realization // by Jerxmy //------------------------------// The sun was beginning to set over Equestria, Luna was out making the preparations for the night soon to come. Twilight was on her way to Canterlot castle to meet the ruler of Equestria, Princess Celestia. Twilight had written to Celestia the day before, not about her learnings on friendship, no....this was something far more important. Her letter stated she needed to speak with the Princess, urgently, about feelings that she had been having. Celestia was the one who Twilight could always talk to about anything, although since moving from the city, they had less time to discuss such topics as they had used to. Over time, these feelings had taken an undeniable toll on the young mares heart. The letter requested to meet the Princess in her castle later in the afternoon, so the young unicorn could get her thoughts together. This was, after all, a big deal, and she needed to have just the right setting. Everything about this meeting had to be planned to the finest detail, every possible contingency discovered and preemptively prevented. The time of day, the temperature, the clothes she would or would not be wearing, the mood of Celestia given the position of the stars and her workload for the day, how clean the floors were in the room, the amount of sunlight from the windows, the- “Relax Twilight!” she mentally screamed at herself. This would not go well. Twilight needed to get this off of her chest, though. These thoughts had been bottling up inside of her for quite a while, and today felt like the day for her to confess. She was on her way through the castle doors, visibly dripping a trail of sweat, and once she arrived to the throne, there she was, in all her glory - Princess Celestia. Twilight stopped and stared, until she noticed the Princess had said something. “Twilight? Are you alright, dear?” The element of Magic wasn't completely sure if she was alright. She swallowed the lump that sat in her throat, shaking nervously. “It’ll be fine, just think straight!” she frantically thought to herself. She approached the white alicorn timidly, her carefully laid plan falling to pieces in the reality of the moment. Approaching ever closer, the unicorn gazed up at the regal pony in front of her, not daring to breathe, her emotions welling up inside of her. Twilight looked into Celestia's eyes, only a slightly lighter shade of lilac than her own. She decided this was the moment - it was now or never. Not taking it slowly, she leaned forward, pressing her lips against her mentor's, her lifelong friend, her soul mate. The strangest part? The graceful white alicorn didn't pull away - instead, she kissed back, giving into the feelings she had so long considered, but pushed away. It was a gentle moment at first, but the emotions inside Twilight quickly expanded until she could no longer control herself. She pushed to send the kiss deeper, her long pent up emotions pouring into the fiery passion of the touch. Her tongue swirled around the princess's mouth, pushing past all measures of doubt. How she had dreamed of this moment, for all those long years. She dreaded the instant that her mentor would break away, scolding her for her impulses, telling her that she was a filly who did not deserve a princess, but that time did not come. Instead, to her surprise, she felt the princess pushing back against her with equal force. Suddenly, a feeling of terror and anxiety came over Twilight. What would happen once the kiss was broken? What would become of their relationship? Of course, Twilight had dreamed of this moment with the princess for years, and now that it was happening, she was scared. So. Very. Scared. Just as she finished that thought, Celestia released her lips from the young unicorn's, and as she held her, she could feel Twilight shaking nervously, tears about to stream from her eyes. Twilight started "I'm so sorry princess! I didn't mean for this to-" Celestia just held Twilight close to her chest, slowly stroking her long violet mane. "Shh, my little pony, don't you worry" she whispered, wiping the tears flowing from her friend's eyes, then looking back into them "to be honest, I've felt this way for a long time." Twilight stared back, stunned at the words that she was hearing "I....huh?" "Oh yes" Celestia continues "Ever since you've been growing up, I noticed that you were...different from other unicorns - something about you shook up feelings inside of me, feelings that I've never had for anypony else" Twilight blushed, feeling incredibly relieved. "That's exactly what I'd hoped you'd say" she replied, embracing her tightly, feeling her warm, soft coat against her cheek, Celestia nuzzling back in return Twilight awoke with a start. How long had they been sleeping like this? She shifted her head so that she could get a better look at the pony that was holding her. Celestia looked so much more normal as she slumbered there, at the same time both a regal princess and a faithful friend. Well, a bit more than a friend now, she thought shyly. She shifted against her mentor’s soft white fur. The sun gleamed brightly outside the window, its tranquil countenance perfectly reflecting that of its owner. The princess of the sun shifted, slowly raising her head. Letting out a graceful yawn, she gazed down at her purple student. “My what a day it has been, hasn’t it Twilight Sparkle?” she teased, grinning at the unicorn next to her. Twilight smiled back, happy to be in the presence and good grace of the pony she loved so much. “Well it does seem to be getting late” Celestia continued. “ I hate to leave you on this note Twilight, but I have royal duties to attend too.” Twilight smiled sadly, knowing that this great day with the Princess would have to end. “Princess, I’m so glad that-” Twilight’s blabbering was silenced before it could begin by a quick kiss from her mentor. “I hope we can do this again soon, my faithful student,” Celestia winked, disappearing in a field of glittering magic. The purple unicorn could only stare at the spot where the other pony had been, reflecting on the happiness that the day had brought her.
