“Oh man, oh man, what do I give her?” It has been over months since Spike, the young dragon, and the filly Dinky Hooves have been going out together, and they could not be any happier. But something was bugging Spike, something very dire. For it was nearly Heartwarming, and he was facing a problem….He didn't know what to give Dinky!
For the whole month, he was planning on taking her to Canterlot for the party that would go on at the castle, but he was struggling with what sort of gift he should give her. And he was…well…not having such good luck. Spike then thought it over. “Maybe I should see Rarity, she might have some sort of idea on what to give Dinky.” He thought as he approached the door and headed out.
Speaking of Rarity, the Mane 6’s reactions to Spike and Dinky were positive, with Pinkie Pie throwing them a ‘SPIKE AND DINKY ARE NOW BOYFRIEND AND GIRLFRIEND’ Party, Rainbow Dash lightly teasing them, but still congratulating them and calling Spike cooler than he was, Applejack was happy for them and reminded Spike to always treat Dinky with love and care, and Fluttershy simply nuzzled the both of them and congratulated them.
Rarity was…well…a bit shocked at this. She knew about Spike's crush on her, and so when she found out that he and Dinky were now a couple, a part of her felt somewhat heartbroken by the fact that Spike would now be seeing and helping Dinky every single day. But in the end, she was really happy that Spike managed to find love with some other creature around his age.
Carousel Boutique
Rarity was in her boutique right now finishing up some designs for her newest client. Who had requested some lovely Hearts Warming outfits, and she was amazed by the sight of it. “These are divine,” She said with a big grin on her face. “Now I just need to get them shipped over to Manehattan and we will be-”
*DING DING*
The bell on her desk rang and it brought her out of her thoughts. “Oh, somepony is here. Hang on!” she called out as she then closed the curtains on her designs and she went over to see who it was that entered.
“Hey Rares,” Spike said with a smile.
Rarity was a bit surprised to see the young dragon there, but she nonetheless smiled. “Spikey-Wikey.” She said with a smile. “What are you doing here?” She asked him. Spike sighed.
“Well, I want to get Dinky something special for Hearts warming, but I don't know what I should get here....I was wondering if you had some sort of idea on what I should get.” He said.
Rarity listened to his words and she thought of it. “Hmmm, well, do you know what she likes?” She asked him.
“Sorta, I mean…I do know she likes jewelry, but I just don't know what I should get her to think…I mean there are many different types of jewels out there.” He said with a sigh. “So I don't know what to do.”
Rarity looked at him and noticed his plight, and she then began to think. What sort of gem should Spike give to Dinky? As she thought of it more, her eyes then winded. “Maybe-No! No, he gave that to me!” She thought…but those thoughts then turned into solemness. “But…he does love her very much….and it is a very precious thing…maybe I should give it back to him…for him to give to Dinky.” Rarity sighed and turned around back to her shop,
Spike noticed this and looked confused. “Rarity, where are you going?” He asked, but she didn't reply to him. “Do you have a gem? I can repay you!” He said to her, but he still didn't get a response from her. This made him sigh once again. “Maybe I should’ve gone to the gem cave instead of wasting her time…”
As Spike turned to the door, getting ready to leave, he heard a familiar voice call out to him. “Spike…” He recognized it as Rarity; 's voice, but she sounded a bit..gloomy. He then turned around to see her and when he did, he was shocked, why? B because using her magic, she had a familiar item with her.
“Rarity…that’s-”
“The Fire Gem you gave me..yea…it is.” she said with a solemn smile. “Spike…I want you to give this to Dinky.”
Spike was shocked, and he rightfully shook his head. “But Rarity, I gave that to you.”
Rarity looked at the ruby. “Yes…I did.” She said. “Looking back on it, I realized how wrong I was for taking it from you, it was yours first…” She then went over to him with a smile. “Spike, I will always cherish the very thoughtful act you did for me…but this time, I need to give this to you.” She then used her magic to bring the gem over to him and placed it in his claws.
Spike looked at the ruby with solemness as well. Of course, he would not doubt that Dinky would love this…but what about Rarity? “A-Are you sure?” He asked her, and Rarity smiled at him with a nod.
“Dinky needs it more than I do.” Rarity said to him.
Cutie Mark Crusader Clubhouse
“I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO GET HIM!!” Dinky shouted as she slumped her head on the desk. Today she was conversing with the CMCs, and she needed their help in figuring out what to get for Spike.
“Now, now, relax, Dinks.” Scootaloo said to her. “Why don't you just get him some gems or something.” Dinky just gave her a deadpan look and the young pegasus sighed. “Good point.”
Apple Bloom then was figuring out what kind of gift Dinky should give to Spike. “Hmm, well I do know he is a big fan of the Power Ponies comics, and he is a fan of Pony Trek as well…maybe you can get him some comics?” She asked her.
Dinky sighed. “I know that…but I want my gift to be special for him, something that will make him never want to break up with me…I don't want to give him something so…so…simple.” She gave a heavy sigh. “This is so hard.” She said.
Sweetie Belle patted her on the back. “Don't worry Dinky, we the CMC's are going to help you find the perfect gift for Spike, right girls?”
“Heck yeah!” The other two said in unison with smiles on their faces.
Dinky looked at them all with a smile on her face. “Thanks girls.” She said with a smile and then frowned a bit “Hopefully Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon won't ruin this date like she did the last one.” She thought with hope. But now was not the time to worry about them, all she had to think of was what to get for Spike, what did he like? Besides gems? She then wondered….and then her eyes widened. “I got it” she exclaimed, making the CMC’s look at her with surprise.
Canterlot
With permission from her mother, Dinky had gotten on a train and taken it to Canterlot, along with CMC’s to find a good gift for Spike. And she realized what he might like….hopefully, he would love it, he just had to.
“So, where exactly are we going?” Apple Bloom asked the filly, who smiled.
“You'll see.” Dinky said as she and her friends walked the streets of Canterlot, everypony there was getting all their decorations up, but Dinky didn't look at them all, she was on a mission, and her eyes were on the prize she sought. “Almost there.” she said as she noticed her destination spot nearby, and she smiled. The CMC’s then noticed where they were going, which turned out to be a comic book store.
“Of course, comics…” the CMC’s thought in unison.
When they finally got to the comic store, they all went inside and were greeted by a young stallion unicorn. “Welcome, are you young fillies interested in the newest edition of the Daring Do Graphic Novel?” He asked with an audible lisp
Dinky shook her head. “No thank you, but do you have the newest edition of the Power Ponies? It’s for my boyfriend.”
The stallion pondered for a moment. “Let me go and check.” He said as he walked away from them and onto the many racks of comics he had. As he was doing that, Dinky and the rest of the fillies all looked around to see that the store had a wide selection to choose from.
“Ooh!” Sweetie Belle said with glee. “They have the Powerpuff Fillies!” She said as she and the others looked at her cover art showed three fillies with color schemes of pink, blue, and green.
Wait…why does that sound familiar?
Well anyway, they looked to see that they also had favorites such as Samurai Griffon, Sailor Pony, and Cowpony Bebop. These fillies were all giddy about the choices, but alas, they were only here for one thing and one thing only, and that was to help Dinky get something special for Spike. But it didn't stop the CMCs from adding some of these comics to their Hearth’s Warming lists.
“Here we are.” The young stallion said with a smile as he used his magic to levitate a comic over to Dinky, who smiled widely.
“Yayy!” She said with a smile as she took it with her hooves and admired it. “This is it!” She then looked at the shop owner. “How many bits?”
The shop owner shook his head. “It seems like you are getting something very special for your special sompony…so how about this once…you can have that for free.” He said with a smile.
This brought a surprise to the fillies. “Wait, are you serious?” Dinky asked, and the shop owner nodded.
“Woah, woah, hold on there buddy!” Scotaloo said to him with a frown. “How do we know you're not trying to pull something here?” To give her credit, it did sound a bit sketchy.
The owner smiled. “I know, but it seems like this boyfriend of hers is very special, so I figured that just this once, I would make things easy and just let her have it. Honest.” The fillies looked at him still, but then decided….he was telling them the truth.
Dinky smiles big at him. “Thank you very much sir.” She said as she and the trio began to walk out. “Happy Hearth’s Warming!”
“Same to you, my dears.” He said as the fillies left the store. Dinky smiled big, she had finally gotten Spike his gift,...now all there was was the party!
Canterlot/Castle of the Two Sisters
Today has finally arrived, Hearth’s Warming Eve! Everypony all around was happy and merry, everything in the place was decorated nicely for the holiday. But it was also a very important day for two people…well, more specifically…one dragon and one filly.
Spike had arrived with Twilight and the other girls and he was pretty nervous about handing Dinky the gift, would she like it? Would she hate it? Oh jeez, the stress was on and he couldn't feel any more nervous.
“Spike!” The small baby dragon looked up to see a smiling familiar sight, Princess Candance of the Crystal Empire. The Alicorn was invited by Celestia and Luna to come and partake in the festivities and she couldn't be any happier to attend.
Spike looked at her and smiled. “Candance!” He said as he ran over and hugged her, a hug she happily returned. “I’m glad you're here.” He then looked around. “Is Shining Armor here too?” He asked.
“He’s around somewhere.” She said to him, “But enough about me, what about you? I heard you have a girlfriend now.” she said with a sly smile. “Who;s the lucky filly?”
Spike blushed out of embarrassment. “Well…it;s Dinky Hooves.”
“Dinky…is the daughter of that mail pony Derpy?”
“Yea.” Spike said with a blush. “We sorta got together after the dance at the Ponyville schoolhouse.
Candance frowned a bit. “Yea…Twilight told me all about that, are you ok?” she asked him.
Spike scoffed. “I’m good, that punch didn't even hurt that much, since I got thick scales.” He said to her with a smug tone of his voice, making Candance raise an eyebrow.
“Well…ok then.” She said as she then looked around. “So is she here?” She asked him.
Spike shook his head no. “Not yet, she said that she and her mom would be here soon though.” He said as he then looked out the door, hoping to catch the sight of Dinky and Derpy, but so far, nothing. “I hope she likes my gift.”
Candance smiled and wrapped her hoof around his small figure. “If she really loves you, then I have faith that she will love whatever it is you have for her.” She said, then he overheard somepony falling for her and sighed. “I better go now, enjoy yourself Spike.” She said with a smile on her face and hugging him.
“Thanks Candace.” He said with a smile as Candacne then smiled at him and walked off, leaving Spike alone. As he was looking around and noticing everypony else either talking or chatting it up, he was hoping that Dinky would come soon.
Meanwhile, right at the door, a familiar cross-eyed mare and her unicorn daughter were at the door all dressed up. Dinky was simply wearing the outfit she wore for the Schoolhouse dance, and Deroy was dressed in a lockley yellow and white dress that was customly made by Rarity.
Derpy looked down at her daughter, who was looking quite nervous. “Dinks, are you alright, sweetie?” She asked.
Dinky looked up at her mom and shook her head. “I’m just so nervous…what if he doesn't like my gift?” She asked her. But then Deroy placed a reassuring hoof on her shoulder.
“Dinky Hooves,” she said sternly. “If he doesn't like it then it's his loss, not yours.” but then her stern turned into a heart warming smile. “But I have a hunch he will love it no matter what. Now you go out there to him.”
Dinky looked at her mother andwhere Spike was sitting, and she gave a deep sigh as she looked on with determination. “Alright mom.” She said as she took a deep breath and began to walk up to him.
As Spike was still sitting at the table, his vision was then blocked by two pairs of hooves. “Guess who?” Said a female sweet voice, a voice that made Spike smile with delight.
“An amazing filly who also happens to be my girlfriend?” He guessed as the hooves came down and he turned to face her, and when she did, his face turned red as a cherry. “Dinky…!”
Dinky united as he blushed a bit. “I know, it's the same as the dance…I know I don't look as-”
“You look beautiful.” Spike said to her, interrupting her sentence completely. As soon as he said that, Dinky could feel some of her worries fade in a flash and were replaced with heartbeats beating fast.
“Th-Tha k you Spike…you look very handsome.” She said, and now it was Spike's turn to get fast heartbeats in his stomach. “So..uh…do you want to hit the dance floor?” She asked him.
Spike nodded his head with joy. “Absolutely.” He said as he and she decided to place their perspective gifts on the table and go and hit the dance floor. As they made their way to the floor, they thought about what the other bought for them ...oh the anticipation was killing them both.
Finally they hit the floor, where the music was being provided by Octavia Melody and Vinyl Scratch, benign a mix of classical and hip hop, and it made the couple get jiggy with it. Spike was shaking his hips and Dinky was doing the same, with the two being back-to-back and smiling the entire time.
After a good 30 minutes of dancing non-stop, the two kids then stopped to catch their breaths for a while and went back to their own table, and for some odd reason, there was food and drinks already there. But they didn't care.
“Man, that dancing was a lot.” Spike said as he took a bite of a cupcake.”
Dinky nodded her head. “But you have to admit that it was pretty fun as well.” She said with a smile as she then took a bite of her hay burger. Once the two were fully refreshed, they now felt like the moment had finally arrived for them, the exchanging of gifts. The two of them were very nervous about this, as if the red dusting on their faces didn't give their nerves away that is…
Spike gulped as he then gave Dinky a small gift bag, and Dinky handed him a very light package wrapped in a simple bow. The entire area seemed to slow down just for the both of them were lost in their own world that they were sharing, and they looked at their gifts…and then looked at the gifts they got for each other…and they both thought five simple words.
“I hope he/she likes it.” They both thought in unison. Well, it was either now or never and they both got to unwrapping their gifts, and after they did, both of their eyes wined with surprise and shock.
“No way?” They both said in unison as they looked a deachpother with winded expressions.
“S-Spike!” Dinky said as he used her unicorn magic to levitate the fire ruby next to her. “W-what is this?” she asked.
“It;s a fire ruby in the shape of a heart…I figured…well…I thought of giving you something that declares my feelings for you…I hope you like it.” He said nervously, but then his nerves were stopped by Dinky wrapping her hooves around him.
“I love it.” she emphasized to him, she let go of him to give him a tearful smile. “What about you?” She asked him.
Spike shield back. “I do as well. I have been wondering where this latest issue was, I looked in the Ponyville store, heck I even searched Manehattan…how did you find it?”
Dinky gave him a sly smile. “I have my ways.” She said to him.
The two kids were smiling at each other, the worries about their gifts being thought of as trash had quickly vanished away and were replaced by loving thoughts. Dinky looked up and her face turned red. “Uh oh.”
Spike raised an eyebrow. “What, what’s-” but when he looked up, his eyes widened as he gasped. “Mistletoe…” He said.
Both Spike and Dinky looked at eachother again, Spike having a confident smile, and Dinky forming a blush on her face as she smiled at him back. Dinky puckered her lips and went forward a bit, and Spike did the same thing. As soon as their lips touched each other, fireworks went off in their heads. As they issued some more, Dinky wrapped the hooves around his neck and Spike had his claws rested on Dinky’s cheeks.
After they stopped kissing, the two stared at each other once again. “I love you Dinky.” He said softly.
Dinky blushed again. “I love you too Spike.” She said as she then scootched her seat closest to him and she put her head on his shoulder, and the two then darted off into a small slumber, hoof and claw holding each other.
As both of them drifted off, they had the same thought in their heads…this was without a doubt the best Hearth's Warming Day of their lives.
