//------------------------------// // Chapter 1 // Story: MordeTwi: Choice and Reflection // by natedeanmaan //------------------------------// Mordecai and Twilight Sparkle were seen flying through a portal and holding onto a microwave at top speed. The two had no idea where they were or where they were going. Twilight and Mordecai were angry over a fight before their current situation involving Margaret. Twilight gets her bearings back as she holds onto the microwave and yells, “Are you crazy?! Why can’t you accept the truth?!” Mordecai yells back, “Shut up! This is all your fault! I finally get a chance to ask out Margaret, but you had to butt in and ruin everything!” Mordecai points an accusing finger at the unicorn as he says this. Twilight felt hurt over the accusation, but to her, she thought that she was trying to help him from getting heartbroken from what she’d heard about Margaret. She said, “Mordecai, you don’t get it.” He interrupts her and says, “No, you don’t get it! You don’t do that to your best friend!” She felt that no matter what she had to say, he wouldn’t listen. Tears started welling up in her eyes as she said, “Well, maybe I would have been better off without friends like you!” Mordecai doesn’t see the hurt in Twilight’s eyes as she says this, glaring at her as she renounces their friendship. That comment hurt him in a way he never thought possible, and he yells, “I’LL KILL YOU!!!” He shoved her off the microwave, surprising her as she screamed. Her body disintegrates and disappears without a trace, making Mordecai instantly regret his actions and what he said. He gasped in horror from what had happened and yelled, “TWILIGHT!!! No, that’s not what I meant! That’s not what I meant!” He frantically presses the buttons on the microwave, hoping to change this, saying, “Go back! Go back, go back, go back!” Still holding onto the microwave, Mordecai was teleported into a dark abyss. As he arrived, he bumped into an invisible object and let go of the microwave. It falls to the hidden ground and breaks. He looked around, unsure what to do, as he was surrounded by nothing. He calls out, “Hello?” The only response he got was his echo. He walks around the place and bumps into more invisible objects, causing some to fall to the ground and shatter. After hearing another thing fall to the ground, a voice yells, “Hey! Who’s screwing around up there?” The sudden voice catches Mordecai off-guard as clocks swirled before him, forming a large body topped off with a purple hat. The new presence said, “Oh, it’s you.” Still in terror, Mordecai stuttered, saying, “Who are you?” The mysterious being responds, “I am Father Time. And you’re the one who’s been foolishly microwaving my clocks!” Feeling guilty, Mordecai said, “I-I didn’t mean to.” Scoffing at the pathetic excuse he heard, Father Time sarcastically says, “‘You didn’t mean to.’ You’ve wasted my time, your time, and you wasted the time of that pony you just killed. She’s dead.” Mordecai flinched at hearing this, knowing that he was responsible for the death of Twilight Sparkle. Tears welled in his eyes, and he said, “I know, I’m sorry. Is there any way to bring her back?” Father Time said, “No, her body was blown to bits of star-stuff. And now you get to spend eternity here at the end of time. All because of your petty jealousy.” Feeling defensive, Mordecai said, “I’m not jealous.” Father Time responds, “Yes, you are!” Mordecai snapped back and yelled, “JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! It was all Rigby’s fault, to begin with. He pissed me off…and I took it out on Twilight.” He sat on the ground, hunched over, and started crying. He said, “She’s gone now, and it’s all my fault.” Father Time didn’t expect Mordecai to respond like this. He sat beside the blue jay and said, “Be truthful for a moment, Mordecai. Why would Twilight do anything to hinder any chances for you to date Margaret?” Mordecai said, “She said she talked with Margaret about me.” Father Time said, “And?” Mordecai sighed and said, “I don’t know what it was about. After she said that, Rigby gloated harder right then as he did throughout the day after he asked Margaret out. I felt betrayed, embarrassed, and angrier than ever, and after that, she and I flew through a portal while I…well, you know.” Father Time said, “Yes, that does explain your irrational reaction, so here’s what you didn’t see.” Mordecai looked at him in confusion, but before anything was asked, Father Time opened a hole in his chest, and a giant hourglass came out. The sand started pouring and showed Mordecai everything that happened during the day. He felt his anger returning as he saw all the times Rigby made Margaret laugh, feeling jealousy taking hold of him until the focus shifted to Twilight. She was helping with moving the boxes and saw how upset Mordecai looked as Margaret laughed at Rigby’s jokes. He noticed how sad she looked and got confused, asking, “Wait, why is she sad?” A montage of memories from Twilight shows their time hanging out together and reveals a moment where she fell in love with him. He also saw her reaction to his swooning behavior toward Margaret. The montage ends with Twilight keeping herself from crying as Mordecai and Rigby continue arguing after Rigby asks Margaret out. With the two gone, Twilight goes to Margaret, wanting to talk to her. She sees Twilight and smiles, “Hey, Twilight, thank you for helping with this. I’ve meant to move for a while but got very busy.” Twilight waves her hoof and says, “It’s not trouble, Margaret; glad to have helped. Before you go, mind if we talk for a bit?” Margaret nods and says, “Sure, what did you want to talk about?” Twilight started feeling nervous and said, “Well, it’s about your date to the movies.” Margaret looked at Twilight in confusion and said, “Date? What do you mean? It’s just a friend thing with Rigby.” Twilight looked at her in confusion and said, “It’s not a date?” Margaret shakes her head and says, “No, there’s nothing remotely close to what I’m looking for from him. My co-worker might like him, but I don’t.” Twilight said, “Well, he thinks it’s a date, and he only asked you out to spite Mordecai, and he has been trying to ask you on a date all day.” Confused by this, Margaret said, “He was?” Twilight looked at her in disbelief and thought, “Please tell me you’re not this dense.” Margaret said, “Honestly, I did pick up a little bit of it, but I don’t see him as more than just a friend.” Twilight inwardly flinched at this, knowing Mordecai wouldn’t like hearing this. Mordecai stares in shock as he hears Margaret say this and says, “So that’s all she saw me as? Just a friend?” Before anything is said between him and Father Time, Twilight says, “If you don’t like him like that, then you should tell him the truth about how you feel because there might be someone out there who likes him.” With a sly smile, Margaret noticed a light blush on Twilight’s cheeks and said, “Someone out there, or someone right here?” Twilight blushed harder from the callout, and Mordecai blushed at the revelation. Twilight couldn’t find the right words to respond to what Margaret said and covered her face to hide her blushing face. Margaret takes her hooves and smiles, “Twilight, you don’t need my permission to go for Mordecai. Go tell him how you feel.” After saying this, Margaret got into the moving van and left. Twilight smiled at this and walked in the direction of the Park. By the time Twilight got to the Park, it was already nighttime. She figured she should tell Mordecai how she felt before going home. She walked up the steps and reached the door but heard a commotion between Mordecai and Rigby before entering the house. She went inside and saw Mordecai run with all the clocks in the house in his arms, and he ran to the kitchen; Rigby followed behind. She chased after them and heard Mordecai say, “Call it off with her.” Rigby points accusingly at Mordecai and says, “You’re jealous, Mordecai! It’s all over your face!” Mordecai yells, “My face isn’t jealous!” Twilight enters the kitchen as Mordecai slams the clocks into the microwave. Confused by this, she asks, “What’s going on?” Seeing her, Rigby says, “Mordecai just won’t admit that he’s jealous at the fact that I can talk to chicks, and he can’t.” Mordecai growls at Rigby for this comment. Twilight was scared at seeing how upset Mordecai was, and she went to him, hoping to defuse the tension. She cupped his cheek and said, “Mordecai, you need to calm down; this isn’t you.” He says, “I wanted to ask her out so badly, and he swoops in to piss me off!” She says, “I know Mordecai, but even if you did ask her out, I don’t think things would have changed between you and Margaret.” He looks at her suspiciously and says, “What are you saying Twilight?” She knew what she had to say and said, “Mordecai, I talked with Margaret, and she said she only sees you as a friend.” Rigby says, “Ohhhhh! She just did the job for me! If you don’t mind, I will see what time it is and get going for my-OOF!” Before Rigby could finish his sentence, Mordecai punched him hard in the face, sent him tumbling across the kitchen, and crashed into the door. Mordecai pressed the button and started microwaving the clocks, shocking Twilight by this sudden action. He said, “You’re not going on that date!” Twilight says, “Mordecai, you know I would never do anything to hurt you. I was just-.” Before she could say anything else, Mordecai turned to her and said, “The only thing you did was get in the way and ruin any chance I had with Margaret. It was bad enough that Rigby did this, but you, Twilight?” She said, “Mordecai, I-.” He interrupted her and said, “No! I don’t want to hear your excuse.” Before anything else was said, the microwave started sparking, catching Mordecai in the electrical surge. Seeing this, Twilight tries to pull him out, but she gets caught up in the electrical surge, and the two disappear from the kitchen. The final part of the hourglass show ends with Mordecai pushing Twilight off the microwave and killing her. Father Time puts the hourglass away and says, “Yeah, looks like she was willing to give up her happiness for you, and you returned the favor by killing her.” Mordecai buried his face into his hands and cried at what he saw. He says, “You’re right, Father Time. I deserve to be trapped here. Rigby gets on my nerves, but he’s still my best friend, and Twilight, she deserves someone better than me.” Father Time says, “I’ll be honest, Mordecai. House guests annoy me. I mean, look how you wrecked my living room.” Confused by what he said, Mordecai looks at the living room's invisible space, knowing that he broke some things when he arrived. Even though he doesn’t see how bad the damage was, he knows it means something to Father Time. He says, “Oh, sorry.” Father Time sternly says back, “You better be. Now, I’ll give you a do-over just this once.” Mordecai looks at Father Time in surprise and says, “Really? Aww man. Thanks so much!” Father Time says, “But remember, stop bottling up your emotions, and be true to your feelings because if I ever get you back here again, you’ll be sorry. Now, get on the Time Pony.” Confused, Mordecai says, “Time Pony?” Father Time says, “Aww, come on. It’s right next to you.” Mordecai feels around and touches what was the Time Pony and climbs on. Seeing Mordecai climb onto the Time Pony, he asks, “That’s how you ride a Time Pony?” Confused from what he said, he asks, “What?” Father Time says, “It’s just weird. Now, get out of my dimension.” The Time Pony races off with Mordecai, racing back to earlier in the day in the coffee shop. Mordecai snaps out of a trance and sees Rigby and Twilight as they sit together in the Coffee Shop. “Twilight! Rigby! You’re here!” Rigby says, “Shh! We’re watching the trailer!” Mordecai focused on the TV and watched the end of the trailer for Zombie Dinner Party. He says, “That looks awesome.” Rigby says, “I’m glad you said that. Because I got us…BAM!” He slammed two tickets on the table, saying, “Two tickets for opening night! Wanna go with me?” Mordecai says, “Yes, I do.” He looks at Twilight. She wasn’t interested in the movie. Mordecai says, “Give me a minute. I have to take care of something. Twilight, mind if we head outside?” Surprised to hear this, she looked at him and said, “Um, sure, Mordecai.” This confused Rigby as Mordecai and Twilight got up from their seats and were getting ready to leave until Margaret arrived. She says, “Hey guys, your food is almost ready; sorry for the hold-up.” Seeing her, Twilight’s ears folded down. She thought Mordecai would blow off their conversation to swoon over Margaret. Mordecai said, “It’s okay, Margaret. I have a latte on my mind right now. We’ll be right back.” The pun earned laughs from Margaret and Rigby. Twilight facehooved at the pun, but it earned a smile from her at how it was used. Mordecai and Twilight exited the Coffee Shop and stood outside. Twilight turns to him and asks, “What did you want to talk about, Mordecai?” Mordecai felt nervous; he knew how Twilight felt about him, but he was never put in a position with that knowledge and didn’t know how to approach it. He figured that if he went through with it, he would be as honest as possible without going into the time paradox. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves and said, “I’ve been thinking lately about something, and I thought I’d ask you about it.” She tilted her head to the side, not knowing where he was going with whatever was on his mind. He said, “Twilight, would you like to go out with me?” Twilight blushed hard at the question and said, “What?! Y-y-you mean like a date?” Mordecai smiled at her reaction and said, “Not like a date. A date.” Twilight turns from Mordecai, not expecting to be asked out by him. She nervously plays with her mane, trying to calm herself down. She giggles and says, “I’d love to Mordecai.” Mordecai picked her up and hugged her. She kissed him on the cheek and nuzzled him. Unknown to them, Rigby saw this from the window, surprised to see Mordecai had made a move, but instead of it being Margaret, it was with Twilight instead. He sees them walking back into the coffee shop and sitting back down, pretending he didn’t see anything. The couple sat close together and started eating their food. Rigby notices how close they already are, and instead of saying anything, he smiles, seeing how happy they are.
