Ouija

Epilogue

“Trick~or~treat!”

Spike then threw a clawful of candy into the foals bag and wished them a happy Nightmare night. As the foal scampered away Applejack sat back down beside Spike with a long sigh.

“Twilight saw them playing with the Ouija board again?”

“Eeyup.”

“And now they’re talking about politics?”

“Eeyup.”

“And we’re going to be out here all night by ourselves?”

“Eeyup.”

“Great.” Spike then sat down besides Applejack, setting the bowl of candy down onto his lap. “Wanna piece?”

“Eeyup,” Applejack said before grabbing a candy apple. Spike watched her chew for a moment.

“You believe in that stuff?”

Applejack swallowed. “You mean ghosts?” Spike nodded. “Ah used to.”

“Oh?”

“Back when I was a filly.”

“But then you got older?”

“Kinda? One day I realized that if ghosts were real then Ma and Pa should have tried to contact me or somethin’. Eventually I figured that the afterlife is just somethin’ that grownups don’t wanna except the fact that they have only one chance at livin’ before they go back to the eternal oblivion, and that they will probably just end up squandering most of it.”

“Um…”

Applejack and Spike then turned to find a very concerned trick-or-treater looking at them. “Uh… sorry you had to hear ‘bout that,” Applejack said as she scooped some candy into the foals bag. “Actually, why don’t we make it a double?”

Applejack then added a second scoop into the foals bag. The foal looked at them once again, then down at their bag, shrugged, and began to walk away.

“Happy Nightmare Night!”
