A Day in the Life of Princess Erroria

A Day in the Life

Beep-beep-beep-beep!

The beeping noise coming from the filly’s bedside woke her up, as reluctant as she was. She grumbled as she shifted in her bed, moving her hoof around in an attempt to dismiss the alarm clock. She attempted to hover the clock over, but... Well, it didn’t end well for it, to say the least.

“Erroria? Did you break another alarm clock?” came a voice from the other room, as Erroria jumped out of bed, wings fluttering slightly.

“I think so...” the alicorn replied solemnly, walking over to the now ashen remains of the clock. Even after living her whole life with alicorn magic, it didn’t make it any easier for Erroria to control it. “Sorry, Sis.”

Into the room trotted Cloud Kicker, Erroria’s older sister. The mare sighed a bit, but smiled. “It’s okay, I get your magic’s hard to control. We can get you a new one. Anyways, Mom’s making pancakes.”

“Really?!” Erroria asked excitedly, receiving a nod from Cloud Kicker. Pancakes were her favorite - especially chocolate chip or blueberry ones! The two sisters made their way to the kitchen, where their mother, a pegasus with orange fur and a purple mane, had just finished cooking.

“Morning, sweethearts,” she smiled, setting down their plates. Erroria excitedly trotted over, jumping into her chair and hovering her fork over, eliciting a laugh from her mom, “somepony’s excited.”

“Owf cowrse I am!” the alicorn filly exclaimed, swallowing her mouthful before finishing. “Your pancakes are the best thing I’ve tasted ever!”

“Aw, I’m flattered.”

Erroria happily ate the pancakes, which were definitely chocolate chip ones this time, talking to Cloud Kicker and her mom as she did.

“Cheerilee said we’re gonna learn all about alicorns today!”

“Oh, that’s exciting.”

The young princess nodded, sloppily hovering a forkful of pancakes into her mouth. Her being an alicorn to all but her family, and a few other ponies, like her best friends, Cotton Cloudy and Noi. Nopony was really sure why she was an alicorn - her dad was a unicorn, but Erroria knew plenty of ponies who had one unicorn and one pegasus as a parent but were still pegasi or unicorns or even earth ponies. It didn’t really bother her, though - she was just like any other filly! Well, aside from her magic...

With breakfast soon finished, Erroria set to getting ready for her school day. She quickly combed her mane and tail, washed her face, and, with a quick burst of purple magic, hid her horn. It was one of the first spells she’d learned - flying was easier than using alicorn magic, anyways. She packed what she’d need for school into her saddlebag, and with a quick “bye!” to her mom and sister, the filly began on her way to school.

“Erroria!”

The young alicorn almost didn’t hear her friend’s call before the white pegasus filly came crashing down next to her. Erroria let out a giggle before helping her friend out. “Hey, Cotton Cloudy! Where’s Noi?”

“I’m here!” called the earth pony filly, trotting down the path and skidding to a halt in front of her friends. “How’re you two this morning?”

“I’m good. My mom made me and Cloud Kicker pancakes for breakfast!”

“Ooh, that sounds yummy!”

“Were they chocolate chip? Cuz if so then I’m sooooo jealous of you...”

The three fillies all let out some giggles at that, talking amongst themselves as they made their way to the Ponyville Schoolhouse. Erroria was really excited to get to school that day - well, she always was. Lots of foals found school boring, but the alicorn filly enjoyed it a lot, especially since Diamond Tiara had stopped being such a bully all the time.

Erroria and her friends, as well as their classmates (who seemed to vary day-to-day, honestly) kept chatting even as they took their seats, stopping once Cheerilee entered the building. “Good morning, class!”

The class echoed Cheerilee’s jolly exclamation, though there were varying degrees of excitement - Erroria was one of the more excited ones, all things considered. Their teacher turned her attention to the easel next to her. “As I said yesterday, today, we’ll be learning all about alicorns! Now, as I’m sure everypony knows, alicorns have both the horn of a unicorn, and the wings of a pegasus.”

Cheerilee turned to face the class. “All of Equestria’s princesses are alicorns - can anypony name them all?” She surveyed the class, watching as Noi’s hoof rocketed up. “Yes, Noi?”

“Princess Twilight, Princess Cadance, Princess Flurry Heart, and former Princesses Luna and Celestia!”

“That’s right!”

Erroria ignored the slight urge she felt to add herself to that list. Did being an alicorn automatically make her royalty?

“Alicorns are quite mysterious, in many ways,” Cheerilee continued, “generally speaking, alicorns are made, not born - their wings or horn must be earned by accomplishing something noteworthy... But Princess Flurry Heart was born an alicorn. Like I said, they’re quite mysterious...”

Erroria listened on to the lesson happily - it was all stuff she knew, but that didn’t make it any less enjoyable. Plus, it was sort of funny, in a way - schools didn’t really teach about pegasi and unicorns and earth ponies, after all, and yet here she was - an alicorn learning all about alicorns!

The class pushed through the door to the schoolyard, excitedly galloping out to spend their recess. The foals all spread out into their own groups, with Erroria of course grouping up with Noi and Cotton Cloudy.

“Alicorns are even cooler than I thought!” Cotton Cloudy exclaimed, doing a loop-de-loop before landing on the ground. “Makes sense, though - you’re awesome, after all, Erroria.”

Erroria giggled in reply. “You two are pretty cool, too, y’know.”

“It’s kinda weird, though...” Noi said. “Cheerilee said alicorns are made, not born, so...”

“I always just figured it was cuz my mom was a pegasus and my dad was a unicorn.” Erroria shrugged.

“I don’t think that’s how it works, but I can’t come up with anything better.”

“Well, enough princess talk!” Cotton Cloudy exclaimed. “Wanna play hide-and-seek?”

“Always!”

“You bet!”

While Erroria enjoyed school, when the bell rung and dismissed the class, she was more than happy to leave the schoolhouse. As she slung her saddlebag over her back, she turned to leave, Cotton Cloudy and Noi by her side.

“So, what do you guys wanna do today?” Noi asked, curiously eyeing her friends.

“Well, Cheerilee talking about alicorn magic made me curious,” Cotton Cloudy turned to Erroria, “what kinda stuff can you do anyways?”

“I’m not very good at magic, honestly...” Erroria admitted, scraping her hoof on the ground. “I can do basic stuff - y’know, levitation magic and that kinda thing. Oh, and I learned how to disguise my horn, but that’s about all I can do with that...”

The pegasus perked up at the mention of Erroria disguising her horn, but seemed disappointed when Erroria said she couldn’t do much more. “Aw... Well, I guess Cheerilee did say alicorn magic’s really strong. Probably hard to control. Anyways, c’mon - maybe we can find something cool you can do!”

“Well, that does sound fun...” Erroria thought for a few seconds, before nodding. “Sure! But we have to make sure nopony sees me - only you two and my family know I’m an alicorn, after all.”

The three fillies weren’t on the main path that led to and from the school anymore, and so, Erroria felt safe using her magic. Not having her horn visible made using magic harder - she could still channel magic through it, but it was harder when she couldn’t see it... But with a spark of magic, it plopped back in place, being slightly taller than an average unicorn filly’s horn.

“You really have to see it to believe it...” Noi said. “You look just like a normal pegasus without your horn!”

“That’s kind of the point...” the alicorn laughed a little. “Anyways, now what should we do?”

“Well...” Cotton Cloudy thought for a few seconds, before she seemed to come up with an idea. “What’s the heaviest thing you can levitate?”

“Mom, I’m home!”

Erroria smiled as she saw her mom lying on the sofa with a book, turning to face Erroria. “I see that. How was school, sweetie?”

“Good!” the alicorn chirped. “We learned all about alicorns - I knew it all already, but it was still really really cool! Oh, and after school, me and Noi and Cotton Cloudy experimented with my magic - did you know that I can levitate a small tree?!”

Her mom laughed a bit. “Definitely sounds like you had a fun day. Well, I should probably start making dinner - your sister should be home soon.”

Erroria nodded, making her way to her room, levitating her saddlebag off her back and onto her desk, flying over to her bookshelf to pick a book to read while she waited for dinner; while the school day had been exciting, it was nice to simply unwind at the end of the day.

Soon enough, her mom called to say dinner was ready, and she heard the door open as Cloud Kicker came home. Erroria flew out of her room, practically tackling her older sister in a hug.

“I’m happy to see you too, Sis,” Cloud Kicker laughed a bit, “how was school?”

“It was great!” Erroria exclaimed, wings fluttering and horn sparkling slightly. “Cheerilee taught us all about alicorns. I knew it all already, but it was still super cool! And after school, me and Noi and Cotton Cloudy messed around with my magic - I can levitate a whole small tree!”

The young alicorn regaled her family with tales of her school day and after school activities, of course eating the dinner her mom had made as well (macaroni and cheese - her favorite!), sipping from a juice box to wash it all down. By the time she’d finished eating, the sun had begun to set, and the moon began to rise.

“Well, you had an exciting day, from the sounds of it,” Erroria’s mother smiled, “you’ll need lots of rest in that case!”

“But Mooooom!”

“No buts, Erroria,” her mom replied, “you can read quietly for a bit if you want, but I expect you to be going to sleep by 9, alright?”

“Okay...” Erroria grumbled, making her way to her room. She brushed her teeth, turned off the light, and tucked herself into bed, hovering a book over and reading by horn-light.

Her mom was right that her day had been exciting, just like every other one of Erroria’s days. She couldn’t wait to see what tomorrow brought, she thought as she put her book down and drifted to sleep.
