It was another evening and the sun was already going down.
Luna's night was already beginning to be seen from the sky.
A pink unicorn mare was arriving at her great home, the famous Castle of Friendship in Ponyville, her name was Starlight Glimmer. She and Discord, the Lord of Chaos, Thorax, now the leader of the changelings and the first to be changed for the better, and Trixie Lulamoon, her best friend, saved Twilight and her friends and the royals from being killed by the tyrant who had already attacked Equestria at the wedding of Princess Cadance and Captain Shining Armor, Queen Chrysalis.
That was one of the biggest defeats that ever happened, and it really has gone down in history.
Starlight was on a walk with her friend Trixie, the day was very tiring as they went to different places and had fun together, even after that day, the two are going out almost every day. Anyway, when she arrived at the castle, she pushed open the door with her magic and went inside, found Spike walking with a book, which was actually a comic book, he was going into the kitchen and Starlight started talking to him.
"Good evening, Spike!"
"Oh, good evening to you too, Starlight!" Spike said, a little distracted "Dinner is almost ready"
"Good, I was getting hungry" Starlight said looking at her belly and Spike just laughed a little.
"Well, that's great, because dinner is going to be very good tonight" Spike said happily and Starlight got excited.
"Oh nice! I'll wait for the call then, see you!" Starlight said and Spike just nodded.
Then, Starlight went to her room to wait for dinner, it wasn't long to gallop there, so she went into her room and started reading some book she'd picked up from the castle library, to pass the time when she was bored or to wait for something, like lunch or dinner for example.
Minutes later, a noise was heard from the Starlight, it was time for dinner.
"Hmmm," Twilight enjoyed the food "I have to admit, Spike, the food is amazing"
"And I have to agree, you nailed it" Starlight admitted.
Dinner was nothing less than pasta with various sauces including apple, tomato, orange and others. It was very good.
"Oh, come on!" Spike was embarrassed by their compliments "It was no big deal"
"No big deal?" Twilight said and glanced at Spike "Spike, if Rarity were here, she would say the same thing"
"Perhaps that's true..." Spike said as he thought.
"I agree with Twilight, it was very tasty food, Spike" Starlight simply agrees with her mentor.
The three of them began to talk about how their day had gone after dinner - it was normal and typical for them to do this.
Three hours after dinner, it was almost midnight, and the three of them decided that the time they all loved had come. Bedtime. They were looking forward to sleeping after a long, exhausting day.
"Uaaaaah!" Spike yawned "Well, it's time for bed, I guess"
"Yes, Spike" Twilight began to yawn too "I'm very tired"
"Absolutely" Starlight said, not yawning but still tired as well.
"Well..." Twilight continues "Shall we sleep?"
"Yeah" They both say at the same time.
"Then good night!" Twilight said and all the others headed for their rooms.
And so it was, Spike, Starlight and Twilight went to their rooms, after a exhausting day, Starlight was only thinking of resting right now, because tomorrow would be a new day in Ponyville, as it always was and always would be. After Starlight closed the door, she went to her bedroom window to look out at the stars that were glowing that night - as usual, they were fantastic and magnificent - and only then did she lie down and start to sleep.
Suddenly, Starlight's eyes began to open, instantly, and she wasn't looking at her room, it was another place, not known to her, that meant one thing. It was a dream.
"Wait..." Starlight starts to look around and says "Am I dreaming?"
One thing Starlight didn't do very often was dream about anything, every time she went to sleep, she didn't dream about anything, and she's used to that, but it seemed that today would be different.
"Oh great... What's going to happen now?"
Starlight was wondering what to do now that she was in a dream, and every time she had a dream there was something haunted or dark, turning it into a nightmare. Looking around her, there was an empty plateau, there was no one around, but the scenery was beautiful by the way, after looking around, Starlight decided to gallop to see if she had any clues as to what this dream was about. Little did she know what to expect.
After looking in many places in the dream, she found nothing, no clues, no noise, except for the relaxing winds that were passing by, so she decided to go to a small lake near where she was and sat down, looking at its reflective face.
"Now I'm wondering what time it is. From how much I've looked, I guess it must be already morning..."
Starlight spoke to herself, there was no one around her really, it wasn't like anyone was around now, was it?
*CLACK*
Starlight finally heard a noise, now it would be the beginning of the dream, she started to hear this noise several times coming from a direction that led to a mountain, she would have to climb the whole mountain to know what she was waiting for. It wouldn't be long now. The weather was starting to get a little wetter than usual each time she climbed, which was strange, because it was actually supposed to be colder, not wetter, for example.
After a few minutes galloping up the humid mountain, she was almost at the top, where her destination would be, then she saw a yellowish light that was in her way, maybe it would be the second clue to find the creature she was going to meet, the sound of *clack* stopped the higher she went, a little more galloping now she finds a green glow and a blue glow, Starlight wondered what it could be but decided to continue on her way, and when she reached the top, the light and the glows came together to form a heart, and in the heart were the three colors, yellow, green and blue, with a touch of red in the middle of it, getting more and more doubtful, she decided to ignore these symbols and then finally reached the top.
When Starlight reached the top, the first thing she did was close her eyes for a second and then take a breath, she was tired after galloping too far, it seemed so real to believe that she had managed to climb a mountain so quickly, when she slowly opened her eyes, she suddenly began to be extremely surprised by what she had just seen. She seemed to be a changeling, she had a light green body with light blue hair with yellow sparkles. And she was crying.
The only thing Starlight could do was to see what was happening to the changeling after all.
"H-hi!" said the unicorn nervously.
"Oh..." the changeling started to look at Starlight and said "Hello"
"Why are you crying?" Starlight asked.
"About that, I don't know..." the changeling said while looking down again "All I know is that I'm nothing in this world"
"Oh, if you want, we can talk," Starlight said and sat next to the stranger "My name is Starlight, and yours?"
"Oh, sorry," the changeling turns around "I have not spoken to anyone in a while, my name is Chryssalide"
"An?" Starlight gets confused and asks "Could you say your name again?"
"I'm sorry again!" again the changeling apologizes and corrects "I forgot you don't speak that language, my name is Chrysalis"
Starlight, after hearing her name, starts to get nervous, but she tries to control herself again and then asks.
"Can you repeat it again?"
"It is Chrysalis!" the changeling shouted loudly and then said "Oh, I'm sorry if it was too loud"
"Oh, don't worry!" Starlight said nervously.
"Eh... Are you alright?" Chrysalis asks.
"Of course I'm alright!" Starlight said with a twisted face.
"Okay, then..." said Chrysalis, who then looked down at her reflection again.
At a moment, Starlight tried to calm down, she was talking to one of the most dangerous creatures in Equestria, but it didn't look dangerous in her eyes for some reason, and she looked different than when she first saw it. She remembered it was a dream later. Starlight decided to talk to her again.
"So," she starts "Why do you think you're nothing in this world?"
"Oh, it's a long story," Chrysalis said, bored "But can I ask you something?"
"Y-yeah," Starlight said a little unsteadily.
"What do you think about me?" Chrysalis asks.
"Wait, what?" Starlight said distractedly.
"Just tell me what do you think about me, pony," Chrysalis said again, looking into the unicorn's eyes.
"Well..." Starlight let out a sigh before answering "You're very beautiful and nice, in my view"
"Really!?" Chrysalis gets a little emotional when she hears this.
"Yes, Chrysalis," Starlight said a little more confident than before.
"Gee, no one has ever said that to me before..." Chrysalis said, a little sadly.
"Really? Why?" Starlight asked Chrysalis.
"They think I'm a monster, a freak, and I'm already used to it," said Chrysalis, sighing later.
"But you're not! Who says that to you?" Starlight asks with concern.
"The ponies themselves... Didn't you know?" Chrysalis asks the unicorn calmly.
"No! I swear!" Starlight exclaims.
"You have come here to call me a monster too, haven't you?" Chrysalis starts to cry.
"No! Why would you think that!?" Starlight was becoming more worried.
"Because I AM A MONSTER!" Chrysalis starts to transform into the form Starlight had seen at least one time before.
The transformation wasn't the same as Cadence's wedding, but it was more dark, terrifying, creepy, seeing a good creature turn evil is very bad for Starlight's eyes, after Chrysalis transforms, she says.
"And now, pony?" she continues, glaring at the unicorn "What do you think about me!?"
"Chrysalis?" Starlight tried to speak, but got too upset.
"Remember, pony," before leaving, Chrysalis touches Starlight's shoulder and says "Life is not always fair for everyone"
After that, Chrysalis begins to flutter her wings and flies away to some place in Starlight's own dream, the unicorn just looks at her and becomes more sad than she already was, and concerned.
"Chrysalis!"
She started to chase the changeling, jumping all over the mountain to try to reach her, the terrain was too difficult to run, luckily in the dream you can do unimaginable things, like Discord for example. Starlight galloped faster and tried to caught Chrysalis.
"Chrysalis, please come back!"
It was no help, the changeling just flew further and further away, at such a speed that it was impossible for Starlight to reach it, she tried to use teleportation but it didn't work. She failed again in Chrysalis. Starlight started crying again in an open place in the forest, failing was terrible for her, then suddenly, the dream was shaking, everything was shaking, and finally, the last thing Starlight said was:
"CHRYSALIS!!!"
The dream is over.
"CHRYSALIS!!!"
In the same room as before, Starlight woke up extremely surprised, worried and terrified, a perfect dream that had turned into a terrible nightmare, not that it was usual, but it was with her "enemy". Fortunately, the scream didn't wake Twilight Sparkle and Spike, Starlight took another breath before quickly getting up and heading to her bedroom window. Opening it, she looked out at the great sun of Celestia shining all over Ponyville, it seemed to be about ten o'clock in the morning, which meant that the dream had lasted much longer than imagined.
Starlight reflected on everything, the dream seemed to be an alternative reality in which Chrysalis had become much better, that she led at the side of Thorax, that she had the affection and love of her subjects, that she would be like this because of him. The unicorn thought of one thing: what if it was her past? It was a very clever option, but it would have to be confirmed in some way. How?
Looks like the unicorn had a great idea.
"Don't worry, Chrysalis. I'll help you. I promise."
