What Happened to Flash Sentry?

Dig Giant Robots

Sunset is being driven by Flash in his new car.

“Okay,” Sunset looks around the inside of the vehicle. “On the outside, it looks impressive. But the inside? What’s with all these buttons?”

All across the dashboard are numerous buttons, switches, levers, and nobs. There was even an old game controller installed near the steering wheel.

Flash smirks while watching the yellow girl twist one of the nobs to see what they’d do. “None of them are programmed to work like this,” he informs while enjoying the sight of his passenger trying out several buttons. The blue haired boy then panics as the girl reaches for a specific switch. “Except that!” he swats her wrist away.

“Ow!”

“Sorry,” the boy sweats. “That was the passenger side ejector seat,” he faces forward. “You probably would have been fine if we had reinstalled the parachute. But we forgot after the last test.”

The flame haired girl rubs her hand. “Why would you need an ejector seat?”

“Uh, we thought with what we were working on, it might be useful in case of an emergency.”

“Emergency?” Sunset tilts her head. “What are you talking about?”

With that, her fellow guitarist smirks once again. “It’s all part of the surprise.”

After a few more minutes, they pulled into a junkyard and stopped once they got to the center. Flash puts the car in park before both teens got out.

Not far from them someone in a jumpsuit can be seen working on another car.

“Hey!” Flash shouts and the jumpsuit raises their head to reveal Vinyl Scratch was under the hood. “Is that the backup? Got it working yet?”

The DJ waves her hand to say kinda.

“Man,” Flash walks over and leans over to get a better look under the hood. “That’s too bad. It could be useful.”

Sunset walks up to them. “So, Vinyl has been helping you with building cars?”

The DJ smirks as she lowers her sunglasses to get a better look at the former unicorn and then glances at Flash.

Flash returns the smirk as he takes out his car keys. “It’s more than just a car. I know that Twilight would love to see this more than anyone. But I really wanted to show you first,” and points them at the vehicle the two had just departed from and pushes the button. After a single beep that made the headlights flash, the ground beneath the car opens up to allow a large figure to rise up above them.

Standing above the teens is a massive blue and silver robot with flames decorating the arms. Flash’s car rests on top in place of where the head should be.

“Woah!” was all that the flame haired girl could say.

.oOo.

“Let me get this straight,” Sunset starts. The three teens are now in the car resting on top of the robot. The former Equestrian on the passenger side, Flash in the driver’s seat, and Vinyl is resting in the back. “Vinyl was looking for parts to build a new DJ stand in this junkyard when the owner asked if she had a twenty before swiping it and placing the deed in her hands. Then, when she heard that you needed some parts for your car, she suggested looking here. That’s when you found a giant robot of unknown origin under a pile of scraps and your first thought was to replace the head with a Cuma?”

Flash shrugs. “Pretty much. But to be honest, we couldn’t figure out the controls in the head it came with. Vinyl was the one who suggested the replacement. That way, I would have a neat ride and a giant Robot.”

“Heh,” the yellow girl chuckles. “A two for one?” she then looks over the controls. “So, what exactly does this baby do?”

“We’re not entirely sure,” the boy admits. “We have some basic ideas and we skimmed over the manual a little bit. We plan on doing a full test run this weekend.”

The conversation then gets halted by the sound of thunder, causing Vinyl to sit up. Looking out the window, the trio sees a vortex that lets three silver robots drop out near them.

“Attention citizens!” a female’s voice leaves the middle robot. “You are piloting Megas. A battle mech from the future. It is the property of the Earth Coalition. Return it at once.”

“A Battle mech?” Flash tilts his head and Sunset adds.

“The future?”

The boy then starts looking at the dashboard. “Okay. Which one was the speaker again?” he flips a switch. The robot’s shoulders opened up and released several mini rockets hitting the robots on both sides of the middle one.

The remaining robot shouts. “Hey! My mercenary droids! I needed those!”

Sunset and Vinyl turn to glare at the driver who only gave an awkward chuckle. The DJ then reaches over to the front, flips a different switch before turning a nob.

Flash clears his throat. “Sorry! Still learning what everything does.”

“You’re done learning!” the robot shouts as it uses jet thrusters to charge at them.

The boy hurriedly starts pressing buttons as he turns the wheel. It allowed him to dodge the oncoming robot. The two passengers hardly had enough time to buckle up. “Time to run the tests early. Show us what you got, Megas!” he flips a switch that actually does what he wanted, and Megas flies up into the sky.

Both mechs trade blows, fist to fist, kick by kick, rockets and lasers. Eventually the robots land back in the junkyard. The Silver one soon reveals a long blade.

“So, want to go old school?” Flash smirks as he pulls a lever. Megas raises a hand to the sky and a large sword pops out of the wrist and the hand catches it. The machine spins the word around and swings it. “I… Have… The…” the boy starts yelling before the sword gets knocked out of the hand, landing a good distance away.

The three teens look back at the blade before Sunset turns to Flash. “Smooth, He-Man.”

The Silver robot took its chance and kicked Megas down and was about to jab its blade right underneath where the car was resting. Luckily, Flash was quick to have his mech catch it.

As the blade was closing in, Sunset recalled what Flash said. “Manual! Where’s the manual!?”

Vinyl points at the glove box and the fiery haired girl quickly opens it to take out a large book. she quickly searches through the pages for anything useful. Sunset briefly stops at a single page then slams her hand on a button as big as her fist.

The front of Megas opens up and somehow the front end of a battle ship pops out with a single large barrel. A powerful beam is unleashed, seemingly disintegrating all but the Silver Robot’s head that drops to the ground.

All three teens stared disbelief at what just happened. Vinyl then takes out a pen and a stack of sticky notes. She jots something down and places a piece of paper on the large button that Sunset pressed.

“Big Scary Cannon,” Flash reads before turning to the DJ. “Good idea. Could you also help with the rest?” Vinyl gives him a thumbs up.

The boy then sets the robot to stand up. “Now, which one was the speaker, and where are the shoulder rockets?” he asks moments before the door on his side opens and he gets dragged out of the car. “Hey!”

Holding Flash against the car is what he can tell is a girl wearing a white and blue outfit. Over her head is a helmet with a visor hiding her entire face. Her grip was harsh at first but then eased up while tilting her head.

“Pops?” the future girl seemingly asks, puzzling Flash. She then gets a punch to the head, knocking her away.

“You mess with Flash, you mess with me,” Sunset warns.

Future girl looks up at the former unicorn and speaks “Nana?” catching Sunset off-guard.

Flash gets up. “Who are you?”

The future girl reaches into a pocket to take out a photo and hands it over to Flash. The picture contained the image of him and Sunset from their first date. The photo is obviously worn and somewhat faded with a tear in it.

Flash reaches into his car and pulls down the visor to reveal the same photo. He takes it out to compare both. Other than one obviously being older, the pictures are identical all the way to the fact that they’re signed on the back.

Sunset grabs the older copy to get a better look at it. “Where did you get this?”

“I got it from my mom,” Future girl admits. “Who got it from you.”

The blue-haired boy finally asks. “Who are you, exactly?"

Future girl paused for a moment before answering. “I’m Blazing Dawn. Or just Dawn for short,” she removes her helmet to reveal yellow skin, blue eyes, and short spiked hair with red stripes. The girl could be no older than them. “I’m your granddaughter.”
