Chapter 2: The Affliction

"The Affliction"

The front door the of the tree house library was launched immediately open. Outside of the doorway, The six best friends were in sight. All of them had the same expression, worry. The library had a faint grasp to it, like no pony wasn't even inside the library. There was no sound, no clatter or tone, whatsoever. Twilight and her friends started to scan the library, they checked almost everywhere. Not everywhere until they finally got to the kitchen, where Spike was laying on the floor.
"Spike!" Twilight shrieked. Twilight and the other five ponies ran to where Spike was. Twilight put her hoof on his pulse, she got nothing out of it. "Somepony, call the the hospital!" Twilight ordered to the five ponies. Rainbow dash nodded to Twilight Sparkle and ran for the phone. Tears started to swell up in Twilight's eyes. Her emotions we're kicking in fast, her heart was beating fast constantly.
"The ambulance is here!" Rainbow Dash called from the library's front door. A bunch of paramedics barged into the library and ran towards the kitchen. None of the paramedics even spoke to the six ponies. When the paramedics got to the kitchen, they examined Spike to see if it was safe to move him. After they did, they put him on the stretcher and abandoned the library leaving the six ponies alone. None of the ponies spoke one word. Pinkie Pie's hair went from flossy, to a smooth linear form.
All of the five ponies were staring at Twilight in the kitchen, she wasn't moving, nor was she looking back at the five ponies. They could all tell she was in more deep sorrow then themselves and that she should be left alone. Applejack stepped up and decided to speak. "Twilight, I know this is hard for you as it is for us to see Spike have to go to the emergency room. We'll be outside when you're ready to speak if you want to. Come on yall'."
Twilight didn't respond, she didn't even look back. Before Twilight could speak, the front door was slammed shut. Twilight whimpered. Tears were descending to her kitchen floor slowly. She thought for the moment, about spike. Not only did she think of the times she spent with him, but the times she was always so demanding to him as well.
She thought she was treating him like a brother, but instead she was treating him like she didn't even know him. She couldn't stand it, she wished she would just slam her hoof through the window. "It's okay Twilight, he's only in the hospital, there is still hope. Straighten up your act, your more then this, it's not like he is dead....." Twilight thought to herself.
Twilight wiped the tears off of her eyelids with her hooves. She inhaled, then exhaled. "Tomorrow I could visit him.....I think I should get some rest first." Twilight muttered to herself. She crawled into her bed slowly as if she was in pain. She captured her covers with her magic and pulled it over her body. Before her eyes shut so that she can fall into her sleep, she muttered to herself.
"Spike, if you could hear me right now, I just wanted to say that I am sorry. I am sorry that I haven't treated you like a friend or brother. I always have treated you just as if you were only my assistant. I wasn't thinking in those times, and as I said I am truly sorry. I hope you are alright and alive like always. Your not just my assistant, your my brother. Goodnight spike, I'll see you tomorrow."

The day after Spike was taken to the hospital, Twilight made sure that she went to visit him. The moment she laid a hoof in Spike's patient room, a chill ran through her spine. She walked gently to the bed Spike was laying on and looked over him. Twilight checked to see if he was breathing, she was thankful he was. Spike was sleeping, his snoring was so silent and compassionate. As Twilight stared at Spike, a smile appeared across her face.
"Oh spike, I'm so glad your alright." Twilight muttered. She ran her hoof across Spike's scaly head. One thing that ran through Twilight's head was what happened that made Spike stop breathing. "Did he choke on something? Seasonal allergies?" So many of these thoughts ran through her mind that she couldn't think straight anymore.
"Excuse me, I hope I am not interrupting anything." Twilight looked back to where the entrance was. It was Jericho, the pony she met yesterday. His two different eye colors stared right into Twilight's hitting her into a hard feeling of nervousness and a strange feel of surprise.
"Jericho, what are you doing here? And....wait, how did you know I was here?" Twilight asked. Jericho glimpsed at Twilight with a expression of nervousness.
"I um, I just thought you would be here cause of what ever happened to Spike last night." Twilight looked at Jericho in confusion and suspicion but she tried to ignore it.
"So about last night, I didn't catch your name was it Twilight-"
"Sparkle, Twilight Sparkle. Yeah, sorry I didn't have time." Twilight interrupted.
Jericho nodded then peeked over Twilight to see where Spike was. He stood there for a minute inspecting him. Jericho looked down and sighed.
"Well, I hope Spike get's better. I must go, gotta get back to work...." Jericho said.
Twilight nodded. Jericho walked to the entrance of the room, looked back at spike, then fled from the patient's room. "I think I should be leaving as well, I have some studies to finish. Twilight thought in her mind. She walked up to spike and kissed him on the head. "I'll come back tommorow Spike." Twilight left the room joyful. Why was she joyful, cause she knew that Spike was going to be fine. Not only that, but she was happy that Jericho came to visit.
When Twilight got back to the library, she immediately grasped a book from the shelves and laid it on top of her desk. She opened it fluently. "Page twenty four, dark magic." She read out loud. Oh, better not read about this, I don't think there is a use for this..." She thought.
Before she closed the book, she stopped for a moment. She pierced her lip, she didn't know if she was aloud to. "Oh what the hoof!" She continued to read the book out loud. "Dark magic was once used from a dark king named Succubus. He created this magic to influence it all around Equestria, until it was proven to be made for only greed and circumstances disobeying the laws."
Twilight wanted to stop reading, but she couldn't help but learn more. Her eyes were attached to the book. She read on and on until she finally knew half of the dark magic spells. "I don't know if I should try it....but might as well, no one else is looking." She thought to herself. "Spell A: Deliquesce" She read out loud.
She examined the library to see what she would be able to test it on. As she searched she finally located a test subject, a scroll. She directed her horn to one of the scrolls on her desk. A shadowy dark glow grabbed the scroll. The scroll started to hover slowly up into the air. Suddenly it stopped and there was a silence.
Twilight looked at the scroll hovering in the air and didn't understand why the spell wasn't working. "Hm, that's strange." She muttered. Before she had the chance to discriminate the book, the scroll caught on fire. The fire wasn't it's normal red "orangy" color, it was black.
"Gah!" Twilight shouted. She ran to her kitchen and quickly grabbed a bucket of water with her magic. When she got back to where the scroll was on fire, she poured the water all over the scroll and the fire went out. "Phew.....". The scroll was burnt and there was a few ashes on the ground. She grabbed a duster, cleaned the ashes, then threw the scroll in the garbage.
"That's enough dark magic for today...." Twilight murmured. Before she walked out of the kitchen she noticed something on the window sill. She couldn't see it clearly. She walked up to the window sill and observed what the speck was on the window. As she examined it she noticed something. It was a feather, the same color as Jericho's wings.
