Prologue
“Hey get rid of that!” The shrouded cloaked unicorn demanded of the weak earth pony. The aura he gave of made the pony shake in fear.
“That’s enough Shadow Cloak!” He turned his head to the other earth pony that was wearing a skeletal helmet made out of dragon bones. “We are working together remember?” He told him.
“Can’t you tell what this is?” He scolded the other pony.
“Now Quick Pocket, where did you get these?” The dragon bone helmet pony asked the sly earth pony.
“Hehehe I got it from the royal guard idiots over there just as they passed. And for your information Shadow Cloak This is the way I work.” He said as if he was only acting the play of the innocent kid.
“This kid I a fool Chief!” Shadow Cloak hissed at him. “This has the royal canterlot seal on it! If the realized you pick pocketed them, then we will all be dead!” He said getting frantic.
“Oh I didn’t know!” Quick Pocket now went into a crazed frenzy.
“Enough both of you! Shadow Cloak use some of your magic to get rid of it! Then we will play dumb” He Order the two partners in crime.
“Why I can easily do that! I’ll just teleport to who knows where and presto we are in the clear!” He Took the envelope and set it down on a nearby barrel.
“I.. uhh... Also took this from them. It might go with the letter.” Quick pocket set down a necklace on the barrel and slowly backed away.
“Alright now do you have anything else you want to get rid of?” He mocked the him.
“I found these from someone who has been tracking us down. He took photos of us and was about to give them to the royal guards as they passed by.” The chief said placing his findings on the table.
“I will just use a simple teleportation spell. Pray that they end up somewhere where no one can get there hands on it. Or Better yet destroyed.” He cast the spell and the evidence was gone
Meanwhile in At the edge of Canterlot mountain
“Ah what a beautiful place! I haven’t been here before” I stood at the peak of a mysterious mountain. I couldn’t help but wonder how long and how far i’ve traveled from my home village. I looked down from the peak. “Woah look at that castle on the side of the mountain!” gasping at the beauty and serenity of the new found place. I started to head down. Something came and knocked me down from behind. I screamed as I hit the ground. I was surprised to be conscious. I hit the base and came to a stop.
“Hey what was that?” Someone yelled out loud.
“I don’t know, we have to go check it out” Another one said. I couldn’t manage to stay awake longer. Everything I saw went white and blurry.
Chapter one
“Doctor! Doctor! he’s pulling through!” A feminine voice yelled out to an unknown assailant.
“Well it looks like you’re right for once” The manly voice exclaimed. My eyes fluttered open. I saw to ponies standing over me. One was an earth pony, the other a unicorn.
“Sir can you hear us? You had a terrible accident” The female pony said slowly. I could feel them touching me.
“We are going to draw out some blood to see if there is any sort of rare conditions we can find.” The male unicorn stuck a needle in me. I couldn't feel it. They left to go test my blood. I slowly regained my energy back. I started to move my hooves. I sat myself upright.
“Woah there slow it down will ya?” The nurse came back. She gently set me back on my back. “You shouldn’t be moving. It’s a miracle that you can. Just for awhile until we get the results and we will let you go okay?” She told me nicely. I nodded my head.
“Well the results are in. If you're up to it you can leave right now. First I will need to know your name. So we can have future reference to any injuries you might acquire here in Canterlot.” The doctor said looking only at the chart he is carrying.
“My uh.... name?” I asked trying to think.
“Yes your name son” He said coldly. A sharp pain in my head came out. “Are you okay? There is a violent pain in your head isn’t there?” He asked taking a gentle hold of me.
“I... I don’t know my name. And it hurts a little bit when I think” I told him honestly.
“You got amnesia then I am taking it” He said looking at his chart again. He flipped the papers and came to a conclusion. “Well we will remember you if you ever get in an accident. Take it easy and I am sure your memories will come back shortly. I suggest that you find a place to stay while you are here.” He told me trotting out of the hospital.
“I don’t really know what to do” I told him truthfully.
“Don’t worry I am sure you will be fine, Oh and these were with you.” He handed me a bag that must of been mine. He closed the glass doors and left me to my woeful self. I looked around trying to find clues to my past. I tried to get someone’s attention, but they all pass me by as if I were just a figment of their imagination.
“Hey you!” One of the guards yelled at me. I looked around and pointed at myself. “Yeah you get over here!” He shouted demandingly.
“Did I do something wrong sir?” I asked oblivious if I have violated any law.
“Nothing citizen. It seems that you are lost. Would you like assistance?” He asked as if he were a tour guide instead of a guard.
“Aren’t you supposed to be... like a guard not a director?” I asked him confuzzled.
“Well I’m new to the guard and well... Everyone else is just... you know?” He tried to answer but couldn’t find the words.
“The seem a bit passive and oblivious. So I get where you’re getting at.” Telling the more emotionally aware guard to all the others.
“Yeah as I said. Do you need any help?” He asked again.
“Not unless you know who I am then no.” I said trying to find out my existence.I was tempted to look in the bag.
“You should join the guard!” He said in a cheerful tone.
“The guard?” I guess, maybe, I don’t know what I am good at.” I said my thoughts out loud. He laughed half heartedly.
“Well if you do decide the recruitment office is right over there. He pointed to the big building surrounded by guards. I could've figured as much. I’ve got nowhere else to go. Maybe joining the guard would put me out somewhere so I can regain my memories. I went in a stood there looking around. The place seemed like a market. It was filled with chatter and guards asking questions.
“You! what do you need?” The desk clerk shouted over the crowd. I slowly made my way through the bustling crowd.
“I uh... I want to join the guard” I managed to say loud enough for the female clerk to hear. She looked down at her papers and directed me to another section of the station. Thanked here and went off in the direction given. There was a semi-large sign that said Recruitment. I went through the oaken doors and it was virtually empty.
“I think you are in the wrong area sir” One guard came up to me and said coldly in my face.
“I don’t think so. I am here to join the guard” I told him back with the same cold tone. HE bellowed out a laugh.
“Are you sure you can handle it boy?” He said viciously. He shown his teeth trying to frighten me off. I shown this as a test of my bravery and courage.
“Yeah it must be the wrong room. I was looking for to join the guard. Not the guards fan club” I told the masculine pony. He just laughed and laughed.
“Oh man! I haven’t laughed like this in ages!” He said wiping a tear off his eye. “You’re going to fit in quite well with me.” I slapped my back and led me to the table. “All you gotta do is sign your name right here and your training will begin immediately” He said handing me a quill and pointing to a signature spot. I looked at it blankly, trying to draw my name out of my head.
“What going on here corporal?” Another heavy built pony came in. I can tell he was a mean sort of guy. He head battle scars pretty much everywhere.
“We got ourselves a new recruit sir! He just needs to fill out the form sir!” He said saluting his superior officer.
“Nuts!” He said flipping the papers off the table. “Get him training IMMEDIATELY!” He shouted then left the room.
“Alright mister...” He paused. I opened my mouth to speak but was interrupted. “It doesn’t matter you will be called many things BUT your actual name.” He said having me tail him from behind. The place was really big, bigger than it looks from the outside. “The place is big. I know watch your thinking. Don’t worry guards only have a small portion of it to themselves. Just need to remember where it’s at then you're good.” He said half turned to look at me. “And this is the training hall. You will start right now!” He shoved me in the room.
“Watch out!” Someone screamed. The next thing you know, I am dodging wooden swords, spears and arrows. The ponies gasped at my amazing reflexes. I stood there shocked looking at my hooves.
“Well you know how to avoid a hit” The instructor said. “But can’t you hit back?” He charged at me even though I am weaponless. He swung down hard at me yet I managed to dodge.
“Here catch!” One of the in training guards tossed me a wooden sword in the nick of time. He relentlessly assaulted me with blows. I managed to deflect and I say my chance.
“Errr ugh!” He grabbed his stomach and fell down. He just moaned holding the place where I jabbed the wooden sword at. They quickly got the doctors and rushed him off.
“Now what’s going on here? You again?” The pony from earlier stopped by. “What did you you do on your first day?” He yelled like a drill sergeant.
“I uh... jabbed the instructor...” I said in a low tone.
“You’re one of the finest recruits we have right now! You keep this up and you will see a promotion real soon! Dismissed!” He shouted and everyone went off
“Wow my first day not even three hours in and I am already at the position for a promotion.” I said out loud to myself.
“Wow you ended class early and you’re on your way to your first promotion.” The corporal came back. “I am not sure if I should be amazed or downright frightened.” He said astonished. I followed him to the living quarters. He shown me to my bunk and where I can put my stuff. He left when i was taking off my bag off my back. I opened it to find out the mystery that was to be found in it.
“What is this?” I took out a blurred photo followed by a necklace a note and a strange IOU. “Who is in this picture? Who am I?” I quietly asked myself. I put on the necklace in hopes to remember something. Nothing happened when I slid the necklace on. I let out a big sigh.
“You there!” That pony came back. “Congratulations for this promotion!” He handed me a pin. “Private 1st class” He said saluting me.
“Thanks uh... sir” I said trying to figure out what just happened.
“Good luck! I expect a lot out of you son! dismissed” He stomped pridefully out of the living quarters.
“Dude Sergeant major already promoted you?” A gray unicorn said. There's whispers going out through the room. First day first promotion. I kind of felt embarrassed because I did not know the ranking system. When the ponies weren’t looking I quickly opened the mandatory book of conduct for the guard. It was pretty easy and simple. There is a total of thirteen ranks.
“Lights out!” Someone boomed out of nowhere. Everyone go into their bunks and attempted to sleep quickly.
“I guess I should get some sleep too.” I said to myself thinking I may remember something from a good nights sleep.
Chapter 2
The guard job was very easy so far. Only a few weeks gone by since I first joined them. All I had to do was stand in a particular spot and oversee the citizens safety. The guards on their spare time just chat amongst themselves about the rumors they hear during their long day. Crimes rarely ever happen in Canterlot.
“Help! Help me some pony!” A young pegasus shout. I heard the cry and sprinted to her call. “That Stallion in black stole my bag! Please get it for me sir!” She was about to faint from the scary event.
“Oh no a guard saw me!” The criminal yelled and started going faster. I charged furiously after him. I got closer and closer. I tackled the assailant down. I did not know what to do next.
“Stop you’ve committed a crime against Celestia and her people! What say you?” I said out of the blue. I thought how cheesy that must of sounded.
“Guilty” He said feeling ashamed of himself. Now what am I going to do with him?
“Look like you caught a criminal Now!” The sergeant major popped out of the blue. “Good job boy!” He slapped my back with intense force. “Boys take this trash to jail!” Two royal guards took him and lead him to the station.
“So what now Major sergeant sir?” I saluted him and awaited my orders.
“I am going to get you approved to become a staff sergeant!’ He said while a trailed behind him to the station.
“Tha... Tha... That’s a huge promotion sir! Why do I deserve such an honor?” I asked him casually.
“Because I know in my guts that you have what it takes to be part of the armed services” he said as if he were spelling it out for me. “This means no more patrols, no more kids climbing over you for fun” The thought came into mind. I didn’t really mind but sometimes it’s just degrading. “You will be out protecting ponies and citizens alike. Most of these special missions will involve monsters or any kind of real threat to the kind people of this nation.” We got to the station and he immediately began the paperwork.
“What are my orders now?” I asked him. He just pointed to the living quarters. “Understood sir” I walked off having a bit of a bounce to my step. Another promotion in the last few weeks? Is this even possible? I kept pondering the idea, that I may in fact be just unworthy of this appraise. I looked at the blurred photo and the other stuff that was in my bag when I first got out of the hospital.
“Why do you keep looking at those blurred photo’s?” The corporal came and ask.
“I do not know who I am. And for future reference I got promoted to Staff Sergeant” I said slightly raising my head to meet his gaze. “I am just waiting for the paperwork and approval to get done.” I said kind of a disappointed tone.
“Why is that?” He asked questioning my emotions.
“It’s nothing... What did you want?” I asked fully turned to him now.
“Well originally I was just asking why you looked at that poor photo but now... Let’s go celebrate your new promotion SIR” He said. I nodded and we went off. “Let go get us some apple cider!” He shouted delighted at the thought of apple cider. We got into the local tavern. “Drinks are on me tonight Staff sergeant!” He shouted and order more and more apple cider.
Two hours of obsessive drinking and he was more drunk than anyone I have ever met. “Corporal I think you had enough” He fell off his chair and I helped him slowly to his hooves.
“You sure know how to keep your cider inside of ya” He threw up in front of me. “You had way more than I did yet your unfazed from it.” He wiped his mouth to remove the puke from his lips.
“Come on lets get back to the quarters and you can sober up” I dragged the unconscious Corporal to his bunk and tossed him on it. He started to snore loudly. I crept to my bunk. There was a noted from the Sergeant major.
It read: Congratulations Son! I put the paperwork in and it immediately got approved. Under this note is your new badge. I suggest you start looking into custom armor instead of that ugly guard standardized stuff you wearing. Good Luck trying to out rank me from this point forward! Signed The Sergeant Major.
“So I am now promoted yet again. I hope the others won’t treat me like royalty because of this” I said softly to myself laying down on my bunk. Then drifted of to sleep without a care in the world.
“Wake up Staff Sergeant!” The sergeant Major shout in my ear. “You’ve got your first assignment from Princess Celestia herself!” He handed me a letter. I looked at the royal mark that sealed the envelope. It looked oddly familiar but I had no time to waste.
Dear Staff sergeant Congratulations on this huge promotion from Private first class! I am sorry to bring the bearer of bad new for this assignment is very dangerous and usually would have Shining Armor go and deal with this sort of mess. I heard very good things about you and I find you capable of meeting this challenge head on and succeeding. You must make your way to the top of the mountain that Canterlot is located. From there you must send the newly found resident dragon away. Use any means necessary to drive it away or to make sure it doesn’t bother us once and for all. If you manage to succeed You will surely be promoted yet again to First Sergeant. Good luck! Signed Princess Celestia.
“Oh my... I AM TO FIGHT A DRAGON!” I yelled out loud for all to hear. I looked around and saw the frightened faces. “Oh Dragon? No I missed read and it says to find a missing station WAGON” I corrected myself to bring order out of the chaos. I need to be more careful of what I say about this.
I started my journey from the base where Canterlot meet with the base of the mountain. I made my way slowly up the rigid path. I notice that off to the side that it seemed someone has fell down the mountain within the last few months.
“That must of been one heck of a fall” I said to the birds nested in one of the trees. They just flew off reminding me to continue upwards to the impending doom or success of myself. I finally made it to the top. I took a moments of rest and looked around for the dragon. I say it cuddle up to a large pile of treasure.
“Huh.. uh.... Who goes there!” It shouted out to me. “A pony?” It began to laugh hysterically. “What is a simple earth pony doing here hmm?” It asked me blowing smoke into my face. I remained passive of it.
“I am here on behalf of Canterlot.” I told him as if been practicing a speech like that for a long time. “You are causing a panic with the people of the city. I am here to ask you to leave. If you do not comply then I must remove you by force” He started laughing even harder. I checked my equipment. I have a newly made spear and a steel shield. Now the dragon was furious blowing fire out everywhere. Now it aimed towards me. I shot my shield up to protect against the flames that were attempting to engulf my existence.
“How did you survive that without a burn?” He was getting confused. “That puny shield protected you? Your one lucky pony. BUT NOT FOR LONG!” He swung his giant spiked tail at me. My natural reflexes made be jolt backwards slightly to avoid a death defying blow.
“I must send you away by force then!” I gave out a war cry. I already knew my weapons are useless against this foe. I saw and old length of chain. I dashed for it and quickly made a lasso out of it.
“What are you doing?” The mighty dragon shouted at me getting kind of scared of my quick innovation of a lasso. “Gah! I must use my sword now!” He grabbed and large house size sword from the pile of treasure. He began to laugh maniacally. He thrust the sword down that I barely managed to dodge. It left a massive gorge in the ground. He slashed side ways more towards the ground this time. I jumped over it and his blade got into the loop of my chain. I gave a violent tug. He lost his grip on the massive sword.
“I’ll give you one last chance to leave and never come back!” I yelled twirling the chain with the massive sword around.
“Okay, okay you win! Just don’t hurt me!” He took off rather quickly. He left his loot behind. I was surprised I even managed to get that sword away from him. Also how I survived the fire that beast blew at me.
“I wonder what would happen if I brought all this stuff back with me?” I questioned myself out loud. First I rummage through the massive amounts of treasure. I found an unusual pair of swords. It looks like the creator used microphones as the hilt for the sword. The blade was blackened like as if were made from onyx. I decided I will take these for myself. But it seemed extremely familiar. I looked at my flank and had the same pair of swords on my cutie mark. “I guess these may have been mine before.” I mumbled to myself.
I was in luck for once. There was a train of carts lined up for me. I quickly massed the treasure on to them. They fit perfectly on it. Not to get down the mountain and back into the capital. I tied the chain to the end cart and slowly set down the mountain. I slid down trying not to have it drag me down.
“Who goes there?” A guard shout at the carts. “Identify yourself or feel my wrath!” He tried to intimidate me. Once I got the loot down safely I emerged from the mess. He quickly saluted me. “I didn’t not know it was you sir!” He valiantly said.
“At ease” I told him forcing his hoof down. He looked through the treasure as his job required.
“Sir if you don’t mind me asking. How did you get all of these weapons and gold?” He asked trying to fill out his report of what he found.
“That's a need to know basis” I said passing him by lugging all the carts with me into town. Everyone started talking about me the instant I set my hoof into town. I got to the station and was greeted with cheers. The other guards started to bring the treasure into the building.
“Holy sweet Celestia! You found this with the missing wagon?” The Sergeant major said in disbelief. I forgot that I corrected myself to Wagon for Dragon.
“Yes I found it and all this came with it.” I quickly noted to him.
“And those magnificent swords you got there?” He looked at my new blades.
“Do you think it’s okay if I can keep these?” I asked him. He nodded to my disbelief. I am the only one he actual approves every time. Some of the guards were jealous I got some fancy new weapons for my personal use. “Go write your report to the Princess” He went off to help the others. I written up my report for the princess and went to the Sergeant major.
“Already done with that letter?” He took it and slapped on a royal stamp onto it. He gestured me to help with the unloading of the treasure. It took us a few hours to unload all of it.
“Letter from the Princess. Staff Sergeant sir!” The mail colt gave me a small package and an envelope. I opened the envelope and read it quietly to myself on the bunk of my bed. She was astonished that I brought back the Dragons valuables and how I managed to to defeat him. I got a bigger promotion than intended. I am now high up in the chain of command.
“Staff sergeant!” The sergeant major came in. “What do you got there son?” He asked about to take the documents.
“You can stop calling me son Sergeant major” I said getting some distance from him. “I got a promotion again” I told him waving it from a distance.
“To what boy?” He demanded.
“I am now your ranking officer. I have been promoted to Lieutenant!” I laughed at him. He stood there frozen with his mouth gaped open.
“Well you’re moving up in the world now Sir” He now saluted me because of my rank. “You are now to move your stuff. You're going to be living in the castle for now on.” With that said he left. I got what little things I had and made my way to the Canterlot castle. The more serious guards stopped me. I flashed my new Lieutenant's badge and the let me through. I was led by a butler into a suite. It seemed way too much for me.
“Will you need anything else Lieutenant?” The gray unicorn with a silly looking mustache asked.
“No thank you that will be all” I told him escorting him out of my new room. I put my stuff away. The bed was soft and magical. It didn’t take long to go in a deep relaxed state then into a deep sleep.
Chapter 3
There is a knocking at the door. The noise of the banging grew louder with each knock.
“Who is it?” I moaned loudly.
“Get up you’ve got another mission and this is important!” I got up to see who it was. But they were gone before I can see whoever it was. I tore the letter open. I am now to go to Tartarus and guard the inside of the place. The guard dog Cerberus needs his yearly check up. No other guards were willing to take up the assignment and was befallen on me. I got a week off before I head out.
“One week off before going?” I moaned to myself. I thought about it and decided to just go out in the wilderness by myself and focus on my new training routine. I went back to the top of the mountain and just started thinking. Questions pop in my head like Who am I? And Where am I from? About two years passed since I joined the guard. I started to get angry thinking about this. There was a flash of white and I passed out on the spot.
“Well looks like he is coming out of it” A familiar voice said to somepony else.
“Do you remember your name yet?” It was the female nurse from when I was hospitalized.
“O it’s you” I said still getting used to being awake. “How long have I been out?” I asked the nurse.
“About five days” She said. Five days went by and I got no R&R.
“This means I have to go to Tartarus and defend from the inside while Cerberus is getting his yearly check up. And by the way. No I don’t remember my name yet.” I said getting up off the table.
“You know that most people don’t really care about others Cutie marks but yours...” The male doctor started to speak. “Yours is a lot like Shining armors.” He got really close to my flank. I never really had a reason to look but now that I am seeing it more closely I notice a little story.
“Yeah I noticed too.” The nurse interrupted too. “It would seem like you were meant to be a soldier. Thus all the promotions really quickly.” It was a green shield with my microphone swords crossed over it with a heart on the shield. Also was three odd looking diamonds that don’t seem quite right. The lines looked more like an imprisonment, like a jail cell.
“Well I got to go but first what happened? I mean the last thing I remember was getting angry.” I tried to remember why I got angry but drew a blank. I looked at the clock and I was going to be late. I ran off without any hesitation. It is about a day's trip if I had a good pace but I don’t have such a luxury. I went at a full sprint. Everything blurred from my vision. I couldn’t hear anything except a loud boom.
“I made it before the schedule.” I panted outside of the gate.
“Lieutenant are you okay?” One of the guards came to me.
“I am fine let me catch my breathe for a second.” I took a deep breath. “Alright I am ready” I said heading towards the checkpoint. I saw Cerebus pass me by. He was just a giant three headed puppy I thought to myself.
“Alright sir, the monster on the other side have amassed. You must hold them off for a whole day. That’s how long it will take. Good Luck” The guard saluted me and awaited my command to open the gates. I have to fight monsters for a whole day? I drew out my swords. I got ready for another daring sprint. I let the guard know I was ready. They flung it opened and quickly used some magic to push back all the monsters. I quickly got in and the closed it. Now I am alone for one whole day without a break from fighting.
“Kill him” hisses came from them. They are relentless and came in random numbers. I blocked parried and swung like A wild pony. I thought I fought for days even weeks. I drove the creatures back far from the gates at least. The given up and retreated after I got them past one hundred feet from the gate. I slowly made my way back and took up position.
“Hey he is still alive!” The gate opened from behind and were cheers from the guards.
“How long has it been?” I asked dazed by the light.
“There was a problem with Cerberus. He ran away after being treated and was led back by Celestia’s student.” The first guard said.
“Oh what was her name? It’s on the top of my head ooh!” The second guard was trying hard.
“You never answered my question” I interrupted them.
“A week sir” The first guard saluted me.
“What! a week?” I shouted. “I was only supposed to be in there for a day!” I got a little bit angry.
“Sir you have been promoted to second in command of the royal guard. Take this, you have a meeting with Princess Celestia right away.” The guard handed me my new badge.
“I got to run take care!” I shouted running back to Canterlot. I saw them letting Cerberus back into Tartarus. I saw the path I have previously taken was damaged. It looked as if it had hoof prints that made the ground crack underneath it.
“Halt who goes there?” One of the two guards at the castle yelled at me. They saw me and immediately open the doors. I took a second to catch my breath and prepare to meet the Princess. I stood ready to open the twin doors that lead into the main hall where she is currently located.
“Shining Armor your sister broke into the Star Swirl the bearded section of the library ”A guard said from around the corner.
“Oh Twilley, she knows that that is open to the public. That silly little filly.” A relaxed and subtle voice said. I turned around the corner. It was the Captain from the royal guard getting a report from a security guard from the Canterlot library.
“Oh look it’s the new second in command!” He spotted me from around the corner. “You better hurry up and talk with the Princess. I will be there in a minutes” He said pushing me through the door.
“Oh there you are! My new second in command” The white alicorn announced to everyone in the room. That just so happens to be All three of the Princesses I have heard. It was Luna, Celestia and Cadence. Shining Armor made his appearance shortly after mine.
“Sweety!” Cadence squealed delighted.
“There is my Princess!” Shining Armor ran to her and had an embracing hug with the Princess. I heard they have been married.
“You want to see me your highness?” I bowed in respect.
“Oh don’t do that! No bowing in front of me!” She detested my notion. “I want to take a good look at the one I have heard so much about” She got up and circled me. She look at me with a complicated poker face. She stopped and took a good long glare at my Cutie mark.
“What’s wrong sister?” Luna asked her. Celestia had a big grin on her face.
“Sister this Stallion is very VERY special!” She said in a delightful tone. The others just looked at eachother trying to figure out why she said that.
“I don’t see any qualities that he posses from looks alone Princess” Shining Armor interrupted her little moment.
“That’s because he isn’t showing us his true identity” She made her way back to her throne to sit upon.
“My... my identity?” I stuttered.
“Yes! You do know who you are? Don’t you?” She looked at me kind of confused. I shook my head and she remained with her same look on her face. The other took shock to her reaction trying to fit in.
“Do you know who I am?” I pleaded to her. “Please tell me! I have been trying and trying to find out my real name. I’ve always been called by my rank! Please Celestia I beg of you! Reveal my identity so I may know who I am!” I was sobbing on the ground begging for the most stupid of things anyone would ask for.
“You gotta be kidding me!” Luna shouted. “You must be jesting if you don’t even know your own name!” She clearly was upset at the fact.
“Luna enough! Can’t you tell that he has amnesia?” She comforted her sister. She started to let go of the idea and relaxed back into her seat. “You come from a rare line of heroes. Each generation has unique abilities and yours are a large combination of them all.” She said getting out of her seat and trotting back and forth. “At first I thought it as a myth but yet here you are!” She smiled at me. “Your name will probably derive from what happens to you when you change emotions.” She waited for an answer or question from me.
“I don’t see how I fell relates to my question your highness” I said trying to pry out my name from her.
“Fine” she said in exasperation. “your name is Mood Mane. When your emotions change so does your hair and tail change to meet the emotion. Your heritage was announced the Family of many faces. The fact you can change your mane without dying it is truly a miracle.” I focused my attention on my name. Is my name really Mood Mane? “You have a lot of special talents that are very common yet yours are refined. You’re strong, fast, quiet handsome, and I heard that your goo....” she stopped herself from the rest. “I am getting ahead of myself” She seemed like she was blushing but covered her face rather quickly. I wonder what she was going to say.
“Yay we have a legendary hero working for us!” Luna squealed hopping up and down with Cadence. The only one to keep her posture was Celestia. Shining Armor just shrugged at me. I knew what he was thinking. “Princesses go figure” the thought of him saying that popped in my head. I chuckled a bit.
“Well now you know who you are. What are you going to do?” Celestia asked as if she thought of me leaving her guard.
“At the time I still don’t remember myself. At least now I have a name” I told her.
“I see well I got a wonderful idea but you won’t be able to get it until you had experience from Shining armor.” She said to me.
“What do you mean by experience?” He asked her quickly.
“Well I decide he is going to be a captain.” She said without any hint of emotion or hesitation. He looked extremely upset. “Not here in Canterlot Shining dear. I will make him Captain At ponyville. He was relieved to hear that.
“Well let me show you the ropes Mood Mane” He put his hoof around me. “I have someone very important to me living there so I will teach you everything I know” He said and we went off.
Chapter 4
“Well thats all you need to know. Is there anything else you wanted?” Shining Armor asked me.
“Not that comes to mind” We shook hooves and I prepared to go to Ponyville.
“Oh Celestia wants to see you as soon as possible” He mention before taking off for his duties as captain. I made my way to Celestia.
“Oh there you are! I came looking for you” She popped into the room.
“Yeah Shining armor just told me” I said to her pointing in the direction he took off in. A servant came in carrying a giant box. He set it down and opened it. I was blinded by the great craftsmanship.
“This is an amazing set of armor” I told her.
“It’s yours Mood mane!” She gestured me to wear it. I put on the armor and felt a tingle as I did so. “Me and the other princesses put a lot of work into it. It will morph into different styles depending on your emotion. We spent a really long time and drained our magic countless times to make it work.” She said about to collapse. Before she fell I caught her and carried her on my back to her quarters.
“You should've not put so much effort into just armor Celestia” I told her as I set her down on her magnificent bed.
“It’s a gift from me to you. Take care of my student and her friends. As well as the citizens of Ponyville.” She yawned then went to sleep. I quietly left the room and closed the door. I started packing the stuff I accumulated over the last few years. It wasn’t much but it was all I had.
“Wow” I was amazed at the city. “So this is Ponyville” I asked myself out loud. I pink happy pony passed by me. I waved to her and she jumped, gasped and ran away. Am I that terrifying to people around here? I had to find a Twilight Sparkle. She lived at the library that ever so happened to be a tree. I found the house and banged on the door.
“Uh who is it” It came from I presumed a little colt. The door swung open inwards and I saw a little baby dragon. “Yeah what do you want?” He said kind of angrily.
“I am here for a Twilight Sparkle” I told him. He gestured me inside.
“Hey Twilight your boyfriend is here!” He yelled upstairs.
“My what spike?” I she yelled back.
“Oh uh.. Nothing Twilight! It’s just stallion here to see you!” He yelled back trying to cover what he said earlier.He quickly waddle away so he didn’t have to see us together.
“Oh there you are! Princess told me a lot about you!” She squealed at my presence. “She said I was to introduce you to my friends. You most likely met Pinkie Pie.” She told me while we walk out of the tree. We headed to the forest that seemed like people avoid. “Word of caution Fluttershy is very timid and most likely will shy away from you” she said in a low tone. I nodded and we head to the weird looking house out of the town.
“Oh Twilight what brings you...” A yellow pegasus gently walked towards us. Then she looked back at the ground shyly.
“Fluttershy this is our new captain of the guard. His name is Mood Mane” She introduced us properly.
“Hello there miss Fluttershy. It’s my pleasure to meet such a lovely young mare.” I bowed to her. She just shyed away as Twilight said she would.
“That was a little bit much don’t you think?” Twilight whispered in my ear. I have been around such royal pains I forgot that this wasn’t casual in most places. “Fluttershy will you introduce yourself?” Twilight got behind her and guided her towards me. She let out what I made out as a ‘Squee’. She nudged her forward.
“Oh! oh uh.. Hello... I am... Fluttershy” She said meekly.
“Well Fluttershy if you have any problems with anything don’t hesitate to ask me. I am you new Captain after all” I left the shy pegasus to herself. Twilight followed behind me. “Who are we going to see next?” I asked the purple unicorn.
“Oh well let’s see who is closest.” She took a moment to think.
“Dang nabit! Come on big brother pull!” A country feminine voice yelled frustrated. I ran off in the direction where the source of commotion was happening. There was two earth ponies, one red the other orange, trying to get their wagon unstuck from a pothole.
“Need any help there missy?” I tried to blend in with them.
“No uh.. Thanks you sir er... we got this under control.” She violent kicked the wagon while the other pulled. I didn’t care if she was strong head and ignorant for the help. I made my way to the wagon and lifted it with my front hooves. I was surprised that it didn’t feel heavy at all. I placed it down a few feet away.
“Oh there you are Mood mane!” She quickly looked at the orange pony. “Oh I see you already met Applejack and her big brother Big Macintosh.
“Howdy” He waved with his deep country voice. Applejack tilted her hat in thanks and in good will.
“So Twilight why you wanted to introduce us? Applejack inquired to the purple unicorn.
“He is the captain of the guard for Ponyville. Celestia set it up for him.” She started to explain while I just stood there watching either of what they were saying.
“Well it is a pleasure to meet you Mister Mood mane sir, but we got to get these apples to the market.” She took off with her brother.
“Well that was AJ. She can be a little stubborn at times but she’s always honest. Except for that one time...” She shook her violently. “Silly me you don’t want to hear about those stories” She said running ahead. “Let’s go find Rainbow Dash” She got pretty far ahead for such a small pony. I went after her and caught up rather easily.
“Hey Twilight who’s your friend?” A tom boyish voice said out of nowhere. A rainbow colored pegasus swooped down from the clouds and landed in front of us.
“So you must be Rainbow Dash. It’s a pleasure to meet you miss dash. I am /mood Mane” I said politely.
“Twilight your friend is such a stiff” She laughed at me.
“Well yeah kind of” She chuckled with her. My years of training finally paid off. I shown no sign of amusement whatsoever. Even though I really wanted to join in on the merriment's my position made me hold a special kind of security status. “Dashie he is the new captain of the guard for Ponyville” She said to her.
“We have a captain? Since when did we have a guard in the first place?” The pegasus question the innocent Twilight Sparkle.
“Since today” I interrupted them. “Celestia wanted me to meet Twilight and her friends for some odd reason.
“Well I don’t care unless you were Captain of the wonder-bolts guards. Now that would make you cool!” She said going off in a fantasy world.
“Rainbow Dash he was Captain of the wonder-bolts guard though” Twilight told her. She snapped out of her little world.
“Really?” She started squealing delightfully. Now she went back to fantasizing about the wonder-bolts. Twilight quickly jerked me away.
“You want to avoid her for a bit. She might ask you a ton of crazy questions about them” She quickly drew me into a boutique.
“Twilight! It’s a fancy having you come to my boutique!” A white stylish unicorn came prancing from around the corner. “Woah Twilight who is this handsome stallion you brought with you?” She admired me. Finally someone who appreciates me. I started to pose in heroic stances. “Oh marvelous! He even posed for me!” She Reveled in my presence. I gave a childish grin.
“You should stop before she goes crazy with...” I didn’t notice her absence. She came back with a cloth and such materials.
“Now don’t move you! And remove that lovely armor over there on the mannequin.” She used her magic and removed my armor and started to make me an outfit. “I didn’t quite catch your name” She asked me poking me with a pin.
“My name is Mood Mane. And you must be the lovely and beautiful Rarity I have heard so much about” I praised her carefully.
“Oh! Well mister /mood Mane you are quite the sophisticated one. What brings you to my lovely boutique?” She asked good manner.
“Rarity he is going to be the new captain of the guard for Ponyville.” Twilight said while I was about to speak.
“Oh does this mean you want me to style the guards armor?” She went off and started designing. Twilight got me out of another sticky situation. We got out of the designers death trap.
“Surprise mister Mood Mane sir!” It was the pink pony from earlier popping out of a cart of hay. She quickly handed me an invitation. I read it out loud for Twilight. “You have been invited to The new guard Captain, Mood Manes, welcoming party.” I finished reading and folded it back up.
“That was Pinkie Pie. You pretty much can use her for an excuse for anything. She is just a unknown variable in the question to life.” Twilight said getting all technical. “AND SHE IS HAVING THE PARTY IN MY HOUSE!” She got really angry really quickly. She sprinted back to her house and I followed at a slower pace. The whole town was in her tree it would seem. I walked into the house and it was wild. Ponies were everywhere enjoying themselves. I virtually met everyone there. They all welcomed me with a warm hearted reception and kindness. I didn’t have a place to stay as of yet, but managed to be able to spend a night with Twilight in her guest room.
Chapter 5
The town is quiet peaceful. There was no violence, no monsters, and no blatant disregard for the law. The only thing that bothers the town are Twilight's and her friends every so often cause problems and the Cutie mark crusaders. In a short time of my stay I managed to learn everyone’s name. I make frequent visits to the six girls that Celestia wanted me to make sure they were safe from all harm. I had to visit Fluttershy more than the others because she lived close to a very dangerous forest.
“You don’t have to worry about me Mister Mood mane. I am very careful around here.” She said taking a sip of tea. “But I am more worried about you. You go in there for a few hours a day and I haven’t a clue what you do in there. Just be careful” The timid pegasus said.
“I am just training in peace. I can’t let others see what I do or they might get hurt.” I said venturing into the everfree forest. This should be the final day of my secret training. I mastered my emotions. The only one I found to be useful was my anger. My mane drew up in flame so did my tail. I decided this will only be used to scare off monsters and ponies who aren’t falling in order. The basic emotions had a different color. But one of my favorites was when I combine my emotions. My mane will turn into a rainbow just like Rainbow Dash. My armor reacted to these changes in a very positive way. I heard stories of how Rainbow Dash can do a Sonic Rainboom. I think I could do the same.
“Hey Mood mane!” Rainbow Dash flew down from above. “Why were you in the Everfree forest?” She asked. This was a perfect opportunity to test my mixed emotions powers.
“I was training Rainbow Dash. But hey glad you came!” I said opening my arms as if were surprised. “We should have a race!” I challenged the blue pegasus.
“Are you sure? You know I am the fastest flyer in all of Equestria?” She gloated her amazing speed.
“Oh I am sure I can rival your sonic Rainboom” I said with utmost confidence. We got into position. We had a count to three and ran off. She took flight and started to fly backwards.
“You pretty slow if I can keep up flying backwards” She yawned at me. I gave her a devilish grin. I had to focus my emotions. My mane turn to rainbow and she was surprised. Then I burst into a blurry eye speed that followed a loud boom. Then there was another boom right behind me. I saw the finish line where it was the entrance of the Everfree. I kept running. Soon everything went white and I passed out.
“Hey! Hey! Wake up!” Rainbow Dash slapped my face repeatedly.
“Wha... What happened?” I asked rubbing my head.
“You... you beat me then passed out. I hate losing” She was upset. Sulking her sorrows stomping her hoof shyly on the ground.
“Don’t worry i’ll wanted to test something and I guessed it worked since i’ve beaten you.” I said getting up wiping the dust off my armor.
“Now I am not special. I was the only one to be able to perform sonic Rainboom until you came along.” She started to get depressed.
“I can’t fly and show off my rainbow afterwards though Rainbow Dash” I comfort her.
“Yeah that’s what I thought! you can’t fly! woo woo!” She got pumped again. “You’re a cool guy Mood Mane! we should hang out some more.” She suggested.
“Sounds like a plan” I smiled at her. She helped getting some of the dust of and took off to do the work she put off. Now I had to go back to the town. I heard screams of terror. I saw Twilight running.
“Twilight what’s going on?” I scream towards her. She sprinted towards me and knocked me down.
“I am sorry but we’ve got a problem here. Where are my friends we need to unite to use the elements of harmony!” She shook me violently.
“Calm down and tell me what’s going on!” I shook her now.
“There is an Ursa major attacking the town!” She was frightened.
“Is that it? Oh come now I can easily handle that just go get your friends and make sure they are safe. I got a town to save.” I said heading off to the direction where there is most screams. I saw the ugly bear looking creature going berserk.
“Come on Cutie Mark Crusaders! Lets stop this Ursa major!” Sweetie Belle shout with the others charging to the giant.
“Get away you stupid fillies!” I shouted running towards them. I had to do the sonic Rainboom again. There ursa went and slashed at the there brave yet stupid fillies. I dove after them and knocked them away from the claw.
“Are you okay mister Mood Mane sir?” Applebloom asked nudging me with her head.
“Get out of her!” I shouted grabbing the wound where the claw cut me. They sprinted for their lives. Now I had to get angry yet it was impossible because the pain blocked it out. The monster looked at me. “YOU GET OUT OF MY CITY!” I screamed an flames erupt from my mane into a giant wall of fire. The ursa slashed at it and got burned. I moved forward to push it back. It whelped and slowly moved backwards. It retreated back into the Everfree forest. I managed to stay conscious to see the ponies look at me with amazement. Then the six girls came out of nowhere prepared to give their lives and saw me.
“Someone get him to a doctor!” Twilight shouted. Then I was knocked out.
“Everyone he’s coming through! So go back home and let him get some rest.” It was Doctor Hooves. Right behind them were the girls.
“Uh... is everyone safe and sound?” I asked using up a lot of energy doing so.
“Yes they are Mood mane” Twilight said. “You saved the town from utter destruction.” She was about to cry. I laid there for a moment to focus on happy thoughts. My mane changed again and they gasped. How come they haven’t realized I can do such things? I felt a burst of energy and I quickly got up.
“Well back to my duties” I said tearing the bandages off.
“Wait mood mane you wounds haven’t healed yet. you’ve..” He stopped and saw that my wounds have been healed completely. All the ponies in the room stood there with the mouths wide open except Pinkie Pie.
“I knew this how come you didn't?” She said completely oblivious from the dramatic event. I trotted out to do my daily patrol of the city. I was met with cheers and thanks from the citizens of Ponyville. One thing I definitely learned from Shining Armor was to not all of this fame and appraise to go to my head.
“You’re a hero mister Mood Mane!” The cheers keeping coming. Something has been on my mind but I have completely forgot what it was. It’s one of those nagging thoughts that you can’t remember but was something you really needed to do. My patrolling ended and I went off to my home on the outskirts of town. I was rummaging through my stuff trying to get the weird feeling out of me. I went to my first items I have acquired which was a bag with very few items that were in it.
“Oh this was what it was!” I said loudly to myself. I pulled out the IOU and noticed it had the royal seal on it. I also wanted to know what this necklace was all about too. “I guess Twilight would answer that for me. Then after that is settled I will go to her royal highness and ask Why I have an IOU from her from before I could remember. I packed what I originally began with and a few things to help me along the road.
Knock Knock
“Who’s there?” I yelled out.
“It’s me Mood Mane can we talk for awhile?” It was Twilight.
“Yeah please do come in” I yelled for her. She opened the door and looked around.
“You know you could get more furniture or something” She said looking at the very plain house. She cocked her head at me.
“I wanted to ask you something. Can you hear me out?” I asked her.
“Yeah sure what is it?” She asked taking a seat on one of my plain couches.
“Take a look at this and tell me where it might be from” I tossed the necklace.
“Where.. how... ok tell me how you got this” She demanded.
“Twilight I haven’t a clue. Please tell me what you know” I asked in kind of a pleading tone.
“This has Celestia old royal mark on it” She was astonished. “See tit?” She pointed at a engraving in the necklace. “This must mean you and her knew each other. Also this is strongly magically enchanted. Spells and magic do not work on it or the holder of it.” She explained it to me.
“Thanks and I am sorry I can’t tell you how I got it.” I told her.
“Then try to explain it” She stepped in front of me. I let out a disappointed sigh.
“I don’t remember. I woke up from being unconscious in the Canterlot hospital. When I got out they gave me a bag filled with stuff. I have no idea who I was before that time. And I am sorry again. One of the things in the bag was something from Celestia so I must go take care!” I pushed her out of my house. I quickly locked the door and ran towards Canterlot.
“Wait I still have questions!” She shouted then stomped her hooves in frustration because I didn’t reply. Poor girl doesn’t know what this is all about either. I must find out the truth. I reached Canterlot with ease with my rainbow colored abilities.
“Oh hey Mood Mane!” Shining Armor blocked my path with a friendly greeting.
“Hello Shining sorry I don’t have time for Chit Chat. Do you know where Celestia is at?” I asked him. He pointed off to the gardens and I went off to go find her. I saw her tending one of the fragile flowers. I approached her slowly.
“Oh Mood Mane what brings you here? She asked softly to the flower. I handed her the photo’s. “Where in the... How did you get these?” She started to panic but quickly readjusted.
“I had them with me when I came here I guess. I don’t know because of the amnesia” I said trying to figure it out.
“This is actually Twilight's from when she was young” She casually said. “I enchanted it so no spell would harm her.” She explained. “It was not for others to harm her but for her not to harm herself. You see Mood Mane she is very potent with magic and she could not control her magic until a few years ago.” She now was looking back at the fond memories she had.
“And what about these photos?” I asked her looking at them.
“It looks like someone botch the teleportation spell and did something to it. Let me fix that.” She closed her eyes and focused. They lit up like a match. They glowed bright white.
“Well that’s really help...” I said but then it began to dull. The images consisted of three ponies doing criminal activities.
“Well now we know why I didn’t get it back” She began thinking of who these might be.
“Did the carriers tell you where they lost it. I mean where it was stolen?” I asked her as if I were responsible for it.
“They lost it around Dertrot.” She said.
“Dertrot? I never heard of it.” I admitted rather quickly.
“It’s up north where I sent the necklace to get it repaired after it broke from Twilight’s last incident.” She said as we walked to a new place. We entered the Hall of Equestria and looked at the map. “See it’s up here.” She put a pin in the location where it is to be. “I wish I could do more for the place. It’s fallen into disrepair and needs urgent help. It’s a breeding ground for trouble. Mostly theft and such but on occasion there is violence.
“You can’t help everyone at once. Even if you could they won’t have that satisfaction of doing it themselves.” I said as if it is them who are suppose to better themselves.
“Well it doesn't matter. Go There and apprehend these criminals and bring them to me” With my orders confirmed I saluted her and made my way to Dertrot.
The path was longer than i wanted it to be. The people seemed to be more distant than the ones I come to know. I got weird looks and it made me feel more and more uncomfortable. I found the local guard station in charge of the city. Like Celestia said the place needs a lot of work.
“Sir we had word you were coming!” It was the captain of the guard for the city.
“At ease” I gently set his hoof down. I handed him the photos of the three criminals that I was looking for.
“Well I know two of three of them. That little timid one is a pickpocket named Quick Pocket. The cloaked unicorn’s name is Shadow Cloak. Both are just chumps in the crime world but are slippery and always get away from us.” He took some time with the third one. “This one is new.” He pointed at him.
“Got any clues to who he might be?” I asked.
“Not a clue but from the looks of this he got these two to follow him. Heck maybe he recruited more.” He shook his head.
“I will find these three and take them in” I told him and left to begin my search. I wanted to end this early as possible. I could not bear the sight of homeless fillies and ponies alike. As I asked around I got some pretty good idea about who these thieves are. Then I got a location where I would find a gang that recently sprang up. I had to go to the harbor and ask for the chief. So I went back to the station and dropped off my armor for it may raise suspicion. I headed for the harbor trying to make myself look a bit roughed up.
“What do you want small fry?” A vastly larger pegasus stopped me.
“I am looking to talk with the chief sir” I said trying to play the helpless homeless pony looking for help from outside sources. “Alright no funny business or I will personally throw you out PERMANENTLY” He said opening the doors. Like he could I thought to myself. The place was loud and filled with the smell of apple cider.
“So where is he?” I asked the large pegasus.
“Let me go see if he will allow you to see him.” He went off into the back and came back out shortly. “He will see you now” He shoved me in the backroom. II saw the two that the local captain pointed out and the third unknown assailant.
“So you’re another beggar who needs my assistance?” He said calmly. It looks like he expanded his influence. I was clearly outnumbered but that didn’t really matter.
“I am here to take you in for multiple counts of thievery.” I said with the utmost confidence. They just burst out laughing except for the chief.
“Now I am going to have to take you out smart one” The large pegasus said from right behind. I felt his hoof creep over my shoulder and I quickly grabbed it and slammed him down to the ground. Everyone jolted in surprise but the chief calmed them down.
“What exactly did we do?” he asked with a smug face. I held out the incriminating photos of the three.
“Shadow you idiot!” Quick pocket shoved the shrouded unicorn.
“I am here for you three and that’s it” I pointed to the trio of criminals.
“Alright how much do you want to give us a slap on the wrist?” The Shadowed one asked.
“There will be no bribery with me” I said. He shot me a disgusted look.
“Well lets make a deal” The chief finally spoke in defense. “If you can best me in a fight we will willingly But let me tell you why we do such crimes” He started to saying what he wanted. He stole from the rich and helped the poor.
“I can understand why but it is still wrong. I am still going to take you in” I told him.
“Okay I tried to convince you. Everyone clear out we will take this outside.” He shouted orders and we all followed him out into the open. “Well you get to see my true self” He started screaming in agony. His sides sprouted out boned wings and he took flight.
“Who exactly are you?” I tried to piece his identity together.
“My real name is Dragon Bones” He said over the rough sound of the wind he produced. “To learn more you’re going to have to beat me!” He shouted and came down towards me. His wings had sharp little thorns on them which he tried to use as a weapon. I briskly dodge each swoop.
“Funny how you remind me when I fought a dragon a while back” I said while dodging his next attack. I saw as everyone took shock to what I said.
“Yeah but I am not a dragon, just different” He landed while his wings went back inside of him.
“No more flying?” I asked him.
“Yeah but you’re not going to like this” He started hugging himself in pain as his hooves extract bone blades out. “You see I can make bones appear anywhere I want. So the variation can never end. This is where you walk away” He tried to intimidate me.
“That’s pretty cool Dragon Bones. Have you ever thought of joining the guard?” I was now trying to convince him. He paused for a moment. I knew he was thinking of what he could become. But then he came at me very quickly. He slashed and spinned like this was his favorite weapon.
“You seem to be seasoned in combat uhhh. What is your name” He jumped back and asked me.
“Took you long enough.” I told him brushing the dirt that accumulated on me from dodging and kicking up dust. “My name is Mood Mane second in command of the Royal Guard” Then the gasps came out.
“So you are experienced and highly ranked” He started to think things over or prepare himself. “Well that means I have to win! You’re kind of people sickens me. You don’t do anything but lounge around and have others do the work for you!” He screamed in rage. His swings became more deadly yet sloppy. I took my time and look for an opening.
“And there” I said grabbing his hoof and pinning him down to the ground. He squirmed but then gave a devilish smile. Bones erected from his spin and pierced through my body. Blood trickled down onto him.
“Aw Chief you killed the poor guy!” Shadow Cloak responded. “Now you will be wanted for murder! I didn’t sign up for this!” The shadow cloak was starting to rally up some of the others to go with him.
“Well sometimes there are some sacrifices” His spinal blades went back into his body. He nudge me off him leaving smudges of blood on him and the floor. “If it comes down to it I will take the blame for it and let them know you all had no involvement” he told everyone loudly.
“If it comes to that OK we will stay” Shadow spoke for them again.
“Hey guys wasn’t his mane black before?” Quick pocket asked.
“Ha! he must of dyed his hair or something! Look it’s pink now” Everyone start to chuckle.
“No it’s just one of my abilities” I said after I coughed up some blood. They all went dead silent. I shuffled to get back up. “Did you think it would be that easy against a high ranking member of the royal guard?” I asked Dragon Bone whom stood still.
“But I killed you!” He shouted back.
“You missed my vital organs” I calmly said.
“What happen to your wounds?” he demanded of me.
“Can’t you tell that they healed?” I joked with him. His face twinged with anger.
“Well at least I didn’t kill you. I don’t want to but only if I must” He said with relief.
“You have some special talent Dragon Bone. I on behalf of the royal guard you gladly recommend you” I said extending my hoof to him.
“You know what? Prove you can beat me and I will think about it. And if you do, there is only one thing I ask of you” He said.
“And that would be?” I accepted his offer.
“You let the others go free” He put in bluntly.
“Alright but then I have a proposition for the rest of the ponies here. If I do get beat you all can go on the way you are doing. But if I win you all must stop and do my alternative to your rebellious kind actions. What say you?” I asked all of them. I got some very good reactions and some where they believe they will continue being thugs. “Alright since majority of you accept I will win this” Then I turned to face the freakish opponent. He now seemed to be getting his blades out again.
“This isn’t what you’re thinking” He said. He probably took a really good guess. Instead of twin blades it was a giant club that was slightly bigger than he is.
“Well that is sort of disgusting” I said. How did he manage to bring that out of his body? He took a heavy swing over head and caused a large breakage in the ground.
“This is too much for you to handle Mood Mane” He said giving me a chance to surrender.
“Well maybe for a weapon but i’ve fought against bigger than that. Try a house sized sword for starters” I mocked his puny club. He began to chuckle.
“You’ve got no weapon though. You are at a disadvantage!” He yelled holding his ground.
“You think I got no weapon?” I began laughing hard.
“What’s so funny?” He asked.
“I can beat you with just my mane” I laughed even harder. Now he began to laugh. “But i am being serious though. I lit up on fire showing off my emotional feature. Everyone began to scream and run away as if the building was on fire and was going to fall apart onto them. I managed to settle down so it looked like my flank was on fire and a small campfire on my head.
“You are one messed up pony!” He charged at me. The heat kept him away and that frustrated him. He attempted countless times as I stood my ground. He just couldn’t overcome the heat. He now managed a full bone armor which made him use a lot of energy. That turned against him.
“You had enough” I said to the prancing pony trying to cool off. He held his head down and collapsed. I trotted over to him and gave him a helpful hoof up.
“You win” He said quietly. He look ashamed and the others start to look at me.
“Hey fre- I mean Mood Mane? Can you like stop with the fireworks?” One of the crowd gang members said. I turned it back to the black style. I prefer it a bit for when going under cover.
“Alright a deal is a deal. First off is with all of you” I looked at the disappointed and ashamed ponies. “You’re gang life is over. Try helping the community by removing graffiti and volunteering at your local hay kitchen. That way you’re helping without harming anyone. And if I hear one of you breaking the law! Swear to Celestia! I will come for you!” I shouted. “Do I make myself clear?” I yelled. They responded with a yes sir.
“So since I am going to become a guard. Does this mean I will help people?” he asked.
“You’ll protect them no doubt. As for helping that depends on you.” I told him. He rub the back of his mane as if he was confused. “Let me explain, Most guards are harden and will only act if there is a crime involved. But me and a few others go out of the way to help others no matter how pointless it may seem.” I finished my little quick explanation.
“Ok you confused me there for a moment. You made it sound like you do absolutely nothing” He started to look forward to the idea of becoming a guard.
“And you two have to come the rest stay and do as I said unless you want to wind up in jail” I said pointing Quick pocket and Shadow Cloak from the crowd. The obeyed me and followed me back to Canterlot. After the journey I led the three to where Celestia resides. I told them to wait in the throne room while I get her and asked if Shining Armor would watch over them just in case. “Hey Celestia I am back from that errand you asked me to do. But I need to talk to you about it” I asked gently behind her while she was tending her flowers in her private quarters.
“And what that might be?” She asked gently back.
“In some sense the trio of thieves was a big misunderstanding.” I began to explain.
“How so?” she replied.
“Though the did steal they didn’t intend to harm anyone. I learned that the three were part of a gang that stole and tried to help the poor.” I said.
“That’s interesting. A gang trying to help the poor and not themselves” She turned to me and let me finish what I was saying.
“I managed to break up the gang. The three are in the throne room under Shining Armors watch if you’d like to meet them” I told her and bowed.
“I would very much like to see the trio” She said heading off into the throne room. I escorted her to her seat in the throne room without them noticing.
“You three approach the Princess!” I startled them. They quickly got close enough and start bowing insanely.
“It is an honor your royal Princess” Quick Pocket was quick to kiss flank.
“So you three stole my prized amulet?” She quickly said.
“We’re so sorry!” The repeated that while bowing up and down wildly.
“Oh stop it you three” She teased them. I began to chuckle at the three red faced ponies. “But what are we going to do with you I may wonder” She said out loud. They began shaking but Dragon Bones interrupted.
“Mood Mane you said you would vouch for me!” He shouted in an upset tone.
“Vouch? What is this for?” Celestia whispered to me.
“Yeah I said I would vouch for him to become a guard if it pleases you.” I told her.
“Now why would I do that?” She whispered back giving them a nice smile.
“Well he nearly killed me. actually if I didn’t have these abilities I would surely be dead. He has what it takes. And the others vow to help the community.” I whispered back. She paused for a moment.
“Alright” she said out loud. “You two are free to go if you follow what Mood Mane has set out for you to do” They went teary eyed and bowed for the merciful Princess.
“And me?” Dragon Bones asked.
“After some consideration and Mood Manes recommendation. I will allow you to join the guard” She said. “Shining go take him to the recruitment office and get him started. From there you’re on your own for awhile then I personally will get you transferred back to Dertrot with your friends” Then everyone left but me and her.
“This is why I stay here you know?” I told her looking back at what just recently.
“What do you mean?” She asked.
“Your so nice and generous.” I praised her. “If you weren’t I probably of left to go find out who I am a long time ago”
“Well I am glad you say that. I will try to find a way to help bring back those lost memories” She vowed to me.
“Well I better get back to Ponyville” I told her taking my leave. Now I left to return to my duties.
