Chapter 13: Story Time

Act 2: A New Purpose

June 25, 3991 BBB(Before the Battle of the Bell)

Today started like any other day, Wake up from sleep mode, preform a system diagnostic, check the perimeter cameras, settle a dispute among the villagers, and check the shops and farms to make sure everything is running smoothly. Today was special however, one of the Druids asked me to come to their class and tell the young ones a story. Of course, I am more than glad to come.

“Okay everyone”, said the druid who taught the class, “here he is, our protector and great leader, King Lugh.”

Once he said that, I came into the room, rows of desks lined up with young ones sitting, ready to learn. Once I came in, the young fawns started cheering and clapping, but the druid hushed them, lowering the cheering to just clapping.

“Thank you for having me, when I heard there was a class of young ones who wanted to hear a story, I couldn’t resist.”

“What story are you going to tell King Lugh?” Asked one of the fawns.

I thought for a moment before answering, “Well, I’m going to tell you the story of how this world was created.”

“Oooooh”, said all of the young ones.

So, once I sat down they all went silent, ready to hear what I was going to say.

“A long time ago, before everything you know today, there was nothing. But then, void became form, and form became earth. This earth was born out of chaos, and from that chaos, sprung the first tree, the mighty oak. Watered by the heavens, this oak dropped 2 acorns, and from these acorns came the first gods, the Dagda and Brigid, the first children of the Danu.”

“Wow”, said all of the young ones, their eyes filled with wonder.

“Over time, the Dagda and Brigid had many children, and these children built 4 great cities on the banks of the sacred river which formed from the water of the heavens. In these cities were 4 great treasures.”

“What are the treasures?”, asked one of the other fawns.

“I’m glad you asked. The first one is the stone of destiny, which would shout with joy when a worthy king stepped on it. The second was the sword of Nuada, which no one could escape when it was unsheathed. Third was the spear of Lugh, my namesake, which could protect anyone who held it. And finally, the Dagda’s cauldron, which could feed everyone in the 4 cities, and never empty.”

“That’s so amazing”, said a young calf.

“However, one day the Dagda said that they would not stay on the banks of the sacred river, but to go to an island far away, where the sun set. This island was called Ireland, the namesake for the kingdom where you live.”

“What happened next?”, asked a young lamb.

“Well, I’m afraid I’m out of time here today young ones, but don’t worry, I’ll come back soon to give you the rest of the story. In the mean time, keep learning, learning new things is the best way to help others later in life.”

“Ok, bye king Lugh”, said all of the young ones.

With that, I left the room, heading back to my house to continue monitoring the surrounding area.

“I should tell stories more often”, I reminded myself, “it feels good teaching bright young minds.”
