Chapter 10: An Endless Gift

Today was a special day.

2 months had passed since the cows, bulls, and sheep came to live in the village. Everyone had settled into routine. Today however was special. Today, I would teach all of the deer how to use magic. Before I could do that however, I needed to tell Maple something, something I wanted to tell her months ago when the deer first settled here.

“What did you want to tell me Lugh?”

“I wanted to tell you about how I survived so long on my own, it’s the same reason I am able to do magic.”

“Really? How are you able to do magic?”

“It started a really long time ago, just 10,000 years after the war that ended humanity. I was using my free time by exploring an old mine, when I found something.”

“What did you find?”

“I found this.”

I opened up the outer casing for one of the computer consoles that made up my physical form. Inside was a small glass cylinder suspended by 2 claws with electrical wires attached. Inside the glass cylinder was a small, glowing, rainbow colored crystal. Its was suspended inside the glass cylinder and rainbow colored rays of light seemed to be drawn to the top and bottom of the cylinder.

“Oooh, what is that?”

“I wasn’t sure when I found it, so I did every test imaginable to figure it out. But the more I tested it, the more it surprised me. It broke every power measuring device that got near it, and an analysis of its chemical makeup came back with nothing. It was a completely new element, never before seen on the periodic table. In addition, this crystal seems to output an infinite amount of energy. It took me the next 2,000 years to run the calculations. When they were complete, I got to the drawing board. I created this device to draw from its endless energy, made this artificial horn to channel it, and there it was, I had discovered magic.”

“Wow, so this little crystal helps you do magic?”

“Yes, I even use it to power the entire house, including this computer that houses my memories. Once I discovered the things this crystal could do, I did a little research. Humans had theorized for centuries that there was a 5th element, between water and air, between fire and earth. They called this 5th element Aether, so I decided to name this new element Aetherium.”

“Aetherium?”

“Yes, they theorized that the Aether was the secret to unlocking magic, a sort of hidden dimension where all magic comes from. When I ran those medical scans on you, I discovered that your brain, and the brain of every deer, has a special component inside that allows you to call upon the power of the Aether to do magic. That special component is why deer, and other types of creatures, have the ability to use magic in the first place. That brings me up to something I discovered recently.”

“Oh, what did you discover?”

“I can use the infinite energy in this crystal to give you immortality.”

“What!”

“It can stop you aging forever, if you want to that is. I could be with you for the rest of time. We could see this village into the future, as its immortal king and queen. What do you say?”

She stepped back at this realization, then thought to herself for about 10 minutes. I could see her face shift from excitement, to worry, to joy, to sadness, then finally back to contentment. After what seemed like an eternity, she finally spoke up.

“Yes, I’ll become immortal, Grogar took everything from me, but now I have a chance to help others forever, a chance to be with you forever, I’ll do it.”

I looked to her with tears of joy, before saying, “ok, this will feel funny at first, but just stay still.”

Then, with a massive surge of power and rainbow light, I channeled the full power of the crystal into Maple, rainbow energy circled around her completely as a kept feeding more and more energy into my spell, but the crystal’s infinite power never drained. 10 minutes after the spell started, I could feel that it was done, so I cancelled the flow of energy, and let the rest of it flow it’s way into her. When it was done, she was standing there with a confused look on her face.

“How do you feel?”

“I feel, different, stronger even.”

“I funneled the crystal’s power into you, now you are as strong with magic as me.”

“Did it work, has my aging stopped?”

“According to my sensors, yes.”

After hearing this, she ran up and gave me the biggest hug ever, thanking me with tears of joy in her eyes.

I also began shedding tears, because I realized that now, I would never be alone again, for the rest of time.
