Lost in a Dream

Meeting a Girl

Spike was a normal boy, average grades, decent social life. One thing he loved was music. He had an ocarina that he always carried with him and played it whenever he got a chance.

It was summer break, and Spike was at the beach playing his ocarina. While he was good at playing the ocarina, he was the first to admit he was a lousy singer.

Spike had never really been good with romance, he'd had a few crushes, and went on some dates, but never had anything long term. That would soon change. He could hear a girl singing, in tune with his ocarina. It was a beautiful voice, he'd never heard such a singing voice, even his favorite singers couldn't compare.

He stood up, still playing his ocarina, and followed the sound of the voice to see a red-headed girl sitting on a log and singing the beautiful tune.

When the girl heard the sound of Spike's ocarina playing music that went exactly in the same tune of her singing, she stopped singing and turned around to see the boy who was playing. She smiled at him, and told him, "Hi there! You're very good with that ocarina!"

Spike smiled back as he stopped playing, "Thanks, I've been playing for years. Although it's nothing compared to that beautiful voice of yours."

The girl giggled, "Oh please, my singing isn't that great. I do love singing though. My name's Marin by the way. What's yours?"

Spike sat next to the girl on the log and said, "My name's Spike. It's nice to meet you, Marin."

Marin smiled at Spike and said, "It's nice to meet you too Spike." As the waves crashed on the beach, she sighed happily, "I love coming here and watching the waves crashing and the seagulls flying."

Spike smiled, "Yeah, it really is a beautiful place."

Marin nodded and twiddled her thumbs before asking Spike, "This may sound like a weird question Spike, but could you play that tune again? I really like singing, and you play so well, I'd like to sing a song I wrote, and your ocarina would go good with it."

Spike smiled and nodded, "Of course, I don't need an excuse to play my ocarina, but hearing that beautiful voice makes it even better." before playing his ocarina again.

Marin smiled as her new friend played his ocarina and stood up and stared singing her song,
"Sleepers wake, dreams will fade,
Although we cling fast
Was it real, what we saw?
I believe...
Lost in dreams, we sleep on
Tossing and turning
Stay with me, by my side,
Never leave...
What if the worst comes?
If someday this sweet reverie ends
We too, our memories, for real,
Fade us by...
Dream with me, by the sea
We watch the waves crash.
Hold my hand, think of me.
And I'll fly..."

As Spike played his ocarina, and Marin sang her song, he felt his heart skip a beat. As she finished her song, Spike stopped playing and told her, "That was a very nice song, Marin."

Marin smiled, "Thanks Spike. Sometimes I wonder what life is like beyond the sea. I always wanted to sing all over the world."

Spike smiled back and told her, "That's a nice dream. I'm not a good singer, but I always hope I can share my music with people."

As the day went by, the two of them sat on the log, watching the waves crash as Spike played his ocarina and Marin sang. Soon enough, the sun started to set and Spike stood up, "I guess I should be getting home. It was nice meeting you Marin. i hope we can meet again."

Marin stood up as well and nodded, "Yeah, it's getting late. I had a wonderful time Spike. I'll treasure meeting you. If you want, we can meet at the juice bar in town tomorrow. They let me sing there, so I go there often."

Spike smiled, "I'd like that. I guess I'll see you there."

Before he left, Marin walked up to Spike and kissed him on the cheek, giggling as he blushed before walking home, singing as she did.

As Spike walked home, he played his ocarina until he got home, where his mother told him, "You were out awfully late Spike. I hope you enjoyed your day at the beach."

Spike smiled, "More than ever. I met a nice girl named Marin. She has a beautiful singing voice, and she really liked my ocarina."

His mother giggled, "So my boy has a crush then? That's sweet. Do you plan on seeing her again?"

Spike nodded, "Yeah, she invited me to the juice bar tomorrow."

"That was nice of her. Well, go wash up, dinner's almost ready."

Spike went to the bathroom and washed his hands before sitting down with his parents and eating dinner. Afterwards, he sat in his bed, thinking of Marin and the song she sang. He didn't play his ocarina, instead he decided to try singing, he wanted to impress Marin by learning the song she taught him,
"Sleepers wake, dreams will fade,
Although we cling fast
Was it real, what we saw?
I believe...
Lost in dreams, we sleep on
Tossing and turning
Stay with me, by my side,
Never leave...
What if the worst comes?
If someday this sweet reverie ends
We too, our memories, for real,
Fade us by...
Dream with me, by the sea
We watch the waves crash.
Hold my hand, think of me.
And I'll fly..."

His mother was walking by his room as he sang and smiled, stopping to listen and asked him, "That's a nice song. Did Marin teach it to you?"

Spike nodded, "Yeah, it went very well with my ocarina. I still don't have a very good singing voice though."

"Don't be silly honey, you're singing voice is just fine. Just keep practicing, and I'm sure you'll be just as good as Marin."

Spike smiled, "Thanks mom, but I don't think anyone is as good of a singer as Marin is. Well, good night." before turning off his light and heading to sleep, dreaming of Marin at the beach. He thought he had finally found the love of his life, and he hoped he was right.
