Chapter 6: Refugees

The moment me and Maple arrived, they all turned to look at us with a mixture of curiosity and confusion. Then, one of the deer walked up to me.

“He must be the leader”, I whispered to Maple.

“Who are you?” The leader asks.

“My name is Lugh, and this is Maple. I saw your group coming near my home and I was wondering what you are all doing here.”

“We are refugees, survivors from all of the villages Grogar attacked the past 10 years.”

“That’s horrible, do you need any help?”

“We were heading through the forest looking for a place to stay.”

“Well, you can stay with me.”

“Really?”

“Of course, Maple here was a survivor as well, I took her in 10 years ago. Now she’s like my partner.”

“Really”, asked Maple, eyes wide with surprise, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

“So, what do you say, would you like to come stay with me?”

“Yes, thank you so much”, said the leader. Then the rest of the deer refugees came up to me, shaking my hoof and thanking me for my kindness with tears in their eyes.

After they were done thanking me, I lead them to the clearing where my house was.

“Beyond here is my home”, I said to the crowd of deer. They looked at the clearing with confusion for a moment then the leader spoke up.

“Where? All I see is an empty clearing.”

“I put up a cloaking field to hide my home from the outside world.”

“You can use magic”, asked the leader in surprise, many of the deer behind him gasping in surprise, talking amongst themselves.

“Yes, and I can teach all of you, Including you Maple, to use magic as well.”

After I said that, the entire group of deer gasped, then began excitedly talking to each other, wondering what it would be like to use magic and what they could do with it. Then, Maple pulled me over with a look on her face that was both happy and excited.

“You can really teach me and the others to use magic?”

“Yes, I really can. While I was teaching you everything I knew, I was also learning from you. Those regular checkups I gave you taught me everything about how your anatomy works. When I went over them, I learned something amazing. I learned that you, and every deer, has special nerve connection in your antlers that connects directly to your brain. Inside the brain lies a special reserve of pure magic, magic that can interact with the world the same way I can.

“Wow, thats so amazing, I had no idea.”

“No deer would have ever known in the first place, you and all the other deer evolved not knowing you had that capability in the first place.”

After I explained that to her, the other deer finally settled down and turned back to face me. I then walked them through the barrier where the first thing they saw was my house, then turned to face them again.

“This is my house. While it isn’t big enough to house all of you, I can build you some houses of your own around mine, but first, I need to expand the barrier. One second.”

I closed my eyes, focusing a portion of my energy into my artificial horn, which then fed into my physical form causing my antlers to glow a golden yellow. Then, a beam of energy shot up to the barrier, which then proceeded to expand to 5 times its previous size.

After this, I blinked my eyes and spoke up.

“I expanded the barrier, now we can start with building all of you some houses. Half of you, set up some temporary shelter. The other half, follow me, well go get some wood to build with.”

From that point, everything moved like clockwork. Half of the 50 deer built temporary shelter huddled next to my house with Maple helping them. The other followed me into the forest, cutting down trees, which I regrew instantly, to build their houses. Once we got the materials, I guided them on how to build their new homes, and In 2 short months, there were 20 houses set up around my own house, with a dirt road connecting them. Once that was done, I helped them with setting up infrastructure, such as a road to get clean water from the nearby lake, and a small farm to feed them.

Yes, everything was set up nicely, now all the deer were safe. Now, they could live in a new village.
