New Year's Kiss

Kiss at Midnight

At Canterlot High's gymnasium, the whole place was packed with students and even the faculty. For they were hosting a New Years Eve Party. It was the one time the students and faculty didn't mind returning to school during their winter break because they didn't have to work.

Spike was walking around taking in all the sights. Some of the faculty like Principal Celestia and Vice Principal Luna were conversing with some of the other adults present, most likely discussing what they'd be doing for next year. He spotted the famous Music duo of Vinyl Scratch and Octavia Melody providing music to the partygoers who were dancing to their beat.

The young man looked over to the refreshment table seeing his older sister Twilight enjoying some punch while talking to her special guy Flash Sentry, his friend Pinkie Pie was getting drunk on punch with his fellow classmates Snips and Snails which made him chuckle. Over by another table were his other two friends Applejack and Rainbow Dash who were busy having a cider drinking contest and knew those two would be feeling a different kind of hangover come the morning. He saw Fluttershy and Sunset Shimmer conversing with some of the other students like Sandalwood and Micro Chips on how they've been enjoying their winter break.

Then Spike's eyes fell on the object of his affections, Rarity. Regarded as the most fashionable girl at CHS. When it came to clothing she was your girl to go to. While she was also known for making his sister and the rest of their friends lovely outfits for specific functions and parties, she wasn't limited to just that. She would also be there to provide Spike with a type of suit for him to where at certain occasions. Rarity's generosity was like a gift from the heavens just like her beauty was. There was no other girl Spike loved more than her and tonight he wanted to spend as much time he had with her up until the new year would begin.

“Ok, here I go.” Spike told himself as he started to approach Rarity.

He made his way through the crowd before finally reaching Rarity who just finished talking to some of her fellow classmates over by the hot cocoa dispenser.

“Hi, Rarity.” he greeted her.

“Hello, Spike,” Rarity greeted sweetly, “How're you enjoying the party?”

“It's amazing. How about you?” Spike asked as he started to fill a mug with hot cocoa.

“It's fabulous, darling. How perfect is it we all get to spend the last day of the year together like this?” she inquired as she refilled her cocoa.

“I'm glad it could be this way,” Spike admitted, “Listen, do you think we could go somewhere private to talk?”

“Well, I don't see why not. But it is almost midnight.” Rarity said noting that it was fifteen till midnight.

“Don't worry, we'll be back.” Spike assured her, as he took Rarity's hand and led her off with both of them blushing just by holding each others hand.

Spike led Rarity through the school before going up to the roof of the gymnasium, and used a cinder block to wedge the door open.

“You know we could get in big trouble if we were caught up here.” Rarity told Spike cheekily.

“I know,” Spike confirmed, as they chuckled, “Are you warm enough?”

“Don't worry, Spike. I'm cozy.” Rarity said fixing her sweater.

“Well, so am I.” Spike said, making sure he was toasty enough in his own sweater.

The two looked up at the clear skies seeing the stars out and bits of snowflakes falling, “Isn't it a beautiful night?" The fashionable girl asked him.

“It's sure pretty,” Spike answered, and sighed, “It's hard to believe another year has come and gone, hasn't it?”

“Oh, I know what you mean. One minute the new year has started and then it's already coming to the next one.”

Spike nodded, as he took a sip of his cocoa, “Still, we made some good memories this year haven't we?”

Rarity smiled, “I know what you mean. From the Sapphire Shores concert, Camp Everfree, Equestria Land, the beach, the yacht cruise just to name a few.”

“Yeah,” Spike smiled in agreement, “I remember you and the rest of the girls joined me at Power Pony Palooza. I really did appreciate all of you joining me.”

“Well, we all attend something that we each are more excited for than others. Believe me, I know.” Rarity giggled.

“Yeah, getting dragged from party to party by Pinkie, Fluttershy's bird migration watches, Rainbow's sports games, Applejack's hoedowns, Sunset's art exhibits, your fashion expos, to even Twilight's observatory trips.”

Rarity nodded, “And it's only fair we all get to join you and something you enjoy most too.”

“Well, looking forward to next con being held here. Next time we should all cosplay.” Spike chuckled.

“Well, that'll sure be a challenge for me to help us all with.” Rarity laughed.

“And I'm really hoping we get to make a lot more good memories next year.” Spike said hopefully.

“I'm absolutely certain we will.” Rarity agreed, as the two sat down and enjoyed their cocoa.

As they sat both of them were taking quick glances at each other while trying to hide their blushes. Finally Rarity spoke up, “But you know what's been the best part about this year?”

“What's that?” Spike asked.

Rarity looked to Spike while blushing and answered, “You.”

Spike smiled, as they could both hear everyone inside counting down to the last ten seconds until midnight, “Happy New Year Rarity.”

“Happy New Year, Spikey-Wikey.”

As soon as the clock struck midnight, and the fireworks started to shoot off in the sky, Rarity and Spike shared their first new year’s kiss.

The happy couple wrapped their arms around each other feeling as happy as can be. They both parted and smiled still blushing.

“Now that's the best way to start the new year.” Spike told her.

“My thoughts exactly,” Rarity agreed, before shivering, “Maybe we should go back down now and join the others.”

“Agreed.” Spike agreed, as the two went back down to join the party as the fireworks continued to shoot off.

Later on as majority of the students and faculty left, Spike, Twilight, and the rest of their friends stayed behind to help clean the gymnasium up when the party was over.

Rainbow yawned as she leaned against a wall, “Why did we stay behind to help with clean up duty again?” she asked in boredom.

“Because Twilight says we'd be given 'extra credit' when the next semester starts.” Applejack said doing air quotes.

“And no offense, Rainbow, but you could really use it.” Sunset joked.

“Ha-ha,” Rainbow laughed sarcastically, “Well, tomorrow I'm not getting up until noon.”

“I'll probably be up again in a few hours.” Pinkie said still feeling energetic.

“Well, at least it was a fun party.” Fluttershy noted.

“Indeed it was, Fluttershy darling.” Rarity agreed, as they all started putting their brooms away.

“Well, this about covers everything.” Twilight told the girls.

“Good I need some sleep.” Spike stretched his arms.

“You and me both, partner.” Applejack agreed, as they started taking their leave.

As the girls started going their separate ways for home, as Twilight saw Spike and Rarity on the porch of the school, “Are you two coming?” she asked.

“Be right there!” Spike answered, as he and Rarity looked at each other, “Well, goodnight, Rarity.”

“Goodnight, Spike.” Rarity smiled, as the two kissed again, before Rarity walked off for home.

Spike walked over to Twilight who was giving him a smirk. Spike catching on playfully punched his big sisters shoulder as the two walked for home already feeling like this new year was gonna be filled with all sorts of surprises.
