//------------------------------// // Recovery // Story: Follow My Heart Back To You // by Starlight Fan //------------------------------// Twilight had to admit, things haven’t been easy for Starlight. For context, Starlight had just gotten out of a relationship with Trixie because the showmare ended up making out with one of her fans while they were together. It didn’t matter that Trixie confessed, it was still a betrayal. According to Spike, all he saw Trixie do was make out with Hoo’Far, if anything that kinda relieved Twilight, making out is one of the least egregious ways to cheat after all. If Trixie were to do anything more, things would probably be worse than what had already happened. For Starlight, it hadn’t been easy for her to recover, understandably so and she was doing better. However, it was clear she was still a shell of her former self. Starlight wasn’t as passionate or lively as she used to be, oh she did help students out with their problems effectively, it was clear she still cares about helping other creatures but there was just a piece of Starlight that just… disappeared. As the two headed inside the castle after the school day ended, Twilight decided to bring it up, “You doing okay?” She asked softly. “What do you mean? I’m just fine.” Starlight smiled, though it wasn’t as wholehearted as usual. “I know you’re going through a lot Starlight. You aren’t as… happy as you used to be.” Twilight explained, careful not to mention Trixie, it probably wouldn’t help. Starlight sighed though, she knew exactly what Twilight was talking about either way. “If I’m honest, it’s been kinda hard to move on.” Starlight admits sadly, “Trixie was a big part of my life Twilight. As a friend and a lover. I felt we’d always be there for each other and we wouldn’t lose each other, but now… I think I lost a big part of my life.” “That‘a gonna take a while to adjust to, huh?” Twilight asked sympathetically. “Yep.” Starlight sighed sadly before asking, “You… wouldn’t leave me right?” Twilight’s eyes widened at this question, where did that come from? Did Trixie hurt her that badly? Twilight already knew she’d never leave Starlight in the dust. She cared for the unicorn in more ways than she knew. Twilight loved Starlight, as more than a friend. She always felt that way ever since the Pony Of Shadows incident but Twilight knew she couldn’t pursue Starlight, it was too selfish. She may not be with Trixie anymore but she couldn’t try and hook up with Starlight when she was so vulnerable, it felt so wrong. “Starlight I wouldn’t abandon you. You mean a lot to me, and losing you would hurt Starlight, it really would.” Twilight tells the unicorn sadly. “But… I’m so chaotic.” Starlight said nervously, “I cause you and the others so much trouble at times. How can you stand it?” “Because I know you care about us.” Twilight smiled comfortingly, “I’m aware you aren’t perfect but you own up to your mistakes and try to improve and you forget, you’re the one who helped the Changelings and Stygian find a better life and are always willing to help your friends in tough times. You’re not perfect but you are Starlight. That’s all I care about.” Starlight immediately teared up with a smile and embraced Twilight, “Thank you. I needed to hear that.” “No problem Starlight.” Twilight smiles back as she hugged back. Starlight blushed as she stayed in Twilight’s embrace. Twilight always did care about her didn’t she? They just connected so much. They were both knowledgeable in magic, shared the same values, and just clicked. It was almost like… Her eyes widened, it felt just like her dynamic with Trixie. Spike was currently in the library reading a book quietly when suddenly Starlight ran in with a desperate look on her face. “Spike. I need advice.” Starlight said quickly. “Seriously?” Spike asked curiously, “Something wrong? Did Trixie come back?” “No.” Starlight answered with a shake of her head, “I just… how do you handle the revelation that you’re gaining feelings for a princess who’s also your best friend?” Spike’s eyes widened at this, Starlight was falling in love with Twilight?! Now to most creatures, this revelation would merely surprise them, but with Spike, he was much more than shocked. “No way!” Spike smiled enthusiastically, “You’re catching feelings for Twilight?!” “Y-Yes.” Starlight admits nervously. “Oh man. This is so awesome.” Spike resisted the urge to squeal. Spike had always approved of Twilight’s crush on Starlight, and to hear that Starlight felt the same way was wonderful news for him. “Well… glad to hear you approve.” Starlight chuckled lightly before sighing, “It’s just that… after Trixie, I’m not sure if I’m ready for another relationship.” Spike toned down his enthusiasm once he heard that and winced sympathetically, he knew it was hard for Starlight after hearing what Trixie did to her. Heck, Spike hadn’t even forgiven Trixie yet after seeing how badly it affected Starlight. “Starlight. Your relationship failed because of Trixie being a cheating prick, not because of you.” Spike reminded the unicorn reassuringly, “Twilight’s not like Trixie, she won’t do that to you.” “I know that but if Trixie wasn’t satisfied with me, I’m not sure if Twilight would be either. I mean, she’s a Princess for Celestia’s sake, and there are ponies like Flash Sentry who’s one of the Crystal Empire’s guards. How could I even hope to think I’m worthy enough for her, especially since I’m just some former criminal.” Starlight sighed sadly, “Who am I kidding? I should probably just ignore this feeling.” Spike sighed before speaking up, “Look Starlight, Twilight doesn’t care about social statuses or that mumbo jumbo. She cares more about what’s on the inside.” He smiled as he put his hand to his heart. Starlight began to smile weakly before saying, “You really think I have a shot with her?” “I know you do.” Spike said happily, seeing Starlight beginning to gain confidence, “But, I’d wait a bit to confess. Make sure this isn’t some heat of the moment decision and all that.” Starlight giggled, “Good call.” Starlight didn’t feel this was a heat of the moment decision, even as thinking through her feelings. She couldn’t find a single reason to doubt them.
