Gabby and the Holiday Cheer

The Holiday Cheer

Gabby stood with a smug face, on the highest tree of Griffonstone. She overlooked the town, tomorrow was going to be the big day. She wasn’t going to give up this time. Give up on what? You may ask. Well, griffons do tend to be a bit of a grumpy lot. So of course Gabby knew what she needed to do to give all of the, the time of their lives!

She needed to show them the cheer! She needed to spread the cheer across all griffons! It was time they understood how amazing it was for ponies. Ponies enjoyed the holidays so griffons needed to do so too!

It was a chilly morning with little snowfall, Gabby wasn’t cold, she was determined. There were only a few letters left in her mail bags, as she sent them she decorated buildings in all kinds of holidwy decorations. After adjusting her scarf, she screeched proudly.

“I’m coming, Griffinstone! Gabby’s coming to spread the cheer!” She screeched as she flew down as fast as a bullet! Dashing so fast that she bumped into a pine tree. Yes, a plastic, snow covered pine tree she put there the night before. Unfortunate many griffins has stolen the decorations, only leaving the tree.

“Woah!” Cried Gabby as she fell to the ground. She shook some snow off as the tree wobbled, pouring a big chunk right on her. “Oof!” She exclaimed as a result.

She looked around, a few were laughing at her, but most didn’t care. “Hmmm... well, at least some of them are feeling a little cheerful... oh! I know!” Gabby exclaimed. Gilda was a good baker! Perhaps she had some advice since she had spread the cheer. Gabby had an excuse to see her too, she had a letter addressed to her from Rainbow Dash in her bag.

She had some more letters on the way, which meant she could decorate some more.

The first house had the enter ante up high, with a perch in front of the door. Boring, right? Well, good thing Gabby had a box of stuff with her that sge grabbed from her house! The previous box ran out, Inside was the same stuff! Gabby was quick to decorate the front of the house. Lining the roof with lights, the perch with tinsel and putting a wreath on the door.

Then finally, Gabby sat on the perch and put on a big smile. She happily knocked on the door with a cheerful face, “Knock knock!” She sung.

Soon enough the door flung open, Gabby had barely any time to dodge it. Luckily she had, she watched in shock before putting her smile back on. The owner of the house wasn’t ver6 pleased. She flapped her dark red wings as she flew around Gabby, who was holding out the letters.

“What is this junk!? Did you do this!?” The griffin asked in a rather rude tone, thick leopard tail washing Gabby slightly.

“Y-yeah!” She exclaimed, “Do you like it, Glider? Now your house is all ready for the holidays!” She raised her claws cheerfully.

“Like it?” Glider scoffed, “Did you ask me permission!?” She screamed in Gabby’s face, she was used to this kind of shouting by now. But she still shook a bit.

“Well, if I asked, it wouldn’t be a surprise. Well, that’s what Pinkie told me...”

“You mean that disgusting pink pony who doesn’t mind her own business?” Glider growled as she ripped the lights off her roof. She spat as she tore the tinsel apart. “You’ve been defacing the town in the rubbish all week!” She grabbed the wreath and slammed it down on Gabby, who’s sad head poked through the hole of the wreath. Looking like she was wearing it as a necklace.

On top of that, Glider tore the letter’s from Gabby’s claws and slammed the door. All Gabby could do was go to the next house. She wiped tears from her eyes as she flew. “I-It’s okay Gabby, she’s gonna come around...” she assured herself.

The next house was on a giant tree, on top of a branch, like a bird house! But much better! She never had a letter assigned to this house before. This was sure the be interesting! Maybe this one was gonna be a new friend! As she hyped herself up she flew faster! Faster and faster towards the house! It was covered in scars and cracks but she didn’t care! Most houses was like that anyway.

So she landed on the branch with a huge smile. “You’re going to have a big surprise!” She exclaimed, taking out the decor.

Once again, she wrapped tinsel around, not just the branch, but the whole tree! It was a long job, but worth it! The tree didn’t have any leaves, just branches, it was dead for years! But it could still be decorated for the holidays. Anyway, Gabby raced to hang orbs on the end of the branches and finally put a star on top of the tree. After all that she lined the specific house with lights, and put a wreath on the door.

Since this was a new one to her, she had a few gingerbread cookies ready to share! Or they could have all of them if they wanted. She made these ones all by herself, pony-shaped with all sorts of colours and bits stuck on! Well, Gilda helped- well- supervised the baking part.

Gabby put a smile on as she held the letters in one claw and tray of cookies in the other. Since both claws were full, she had to knock the best she could with one hind paw. “Knocky-knock!” She cheerful exclaimed.

Nothing happened.

“Hello?” She called out, “I baked cookies! Hope you like them! Oh, I have your mail too!”

There was creaking as the door slowly opened, revealing a very dark inside. “Oh...” Gabby gulped, trying to not be scared, “How ominous, I like it!”

Soon there was some hissing as a dark yellow and black griffin crawled out. Tail cut short, beak cracked, scar over blind eye. Plus he was covered in scars.

“Oh hell there! You must be Glitter!” She smiled, “Nice to meet you!”

The griffin hissed, staring at the cookies. Then as fast as a flash, he took them with his beak, almost chasing Gabby to stumble over. “Oh!” She exclaimed as he skietteted back in the house like a frightened cat.

“Eh?” Gabby held out the letter, “Tou forgot-“ Then suddenly he came back, snapping the letters out of her claw with his beak. Cuasing her to jump with fright! “Yikes!” She quickly made She none of her claws were cut off or anything. “I can see why others avoid him... well, he doesn’t hate it, so suceeess!” She cheered out.

But as soon as she got ready for takeoff, she found herself being hit but shards of tinsel he was ripping off. “Alright... who’s next?”

Next house belonged to a griffin named Grace. Gabby knew she was sisters to a pink griffin, named Gumdrop. A poor pink griffin who was kicked from her home at such a young age by her parents. She had tried to help that pink griffin a few times, but one day she had disappeared from town completely. Apparently she went to Equestria, banished from Griffonstone.

Been ages since she last saw Gumdrop, she hoped she was doing well now. Well theirs wasn’t about Gumdrop at the moment. This was about Grace. So she quickly decorated the building like usual. Then after that, she stood in front of the door, parcel in her claws with some left over cookies on it on a paper plate.

Once again, Gabbky has to knock with her hind leg. She didn’t mind it, she liked having the chance of others being happy. As soon as the door opened Gabby exclaimed, “Hey Grace! I have some cookies for you too!”

The grey griffon scoffed as she ruffled her pink wings. Her belly and cheeks were light pink and she had a dark grey mowhawk. Also, there was a dark grey tuft at the end of her tail.

“Ugh, the mail griff, just gimme my stuff and go!” She grunted. But then she noticed the decorations. “You did this?”

“Yes I did!” Gabby exclaimed, cheerfully.

Grace grunted, “Classic Gabby, trying to get griffins to be happy... do t you understand we are meant to be depressing?”

“That’s not true...” Gabby said, “I’m sure you’ll find what gives you joy...”

Grace chuckled, “What I find joy in is gone...” She walked towards the door.

“Well... you’ll enjoy those cookies, right?” Gabby asked as she turned her head.

The only thing that happened next was Grace slamming the door. As a result, all the snow from the roof fell right onto poor Gabby. She shook the snow from her head and sadly looked at the door, “Someday, i’ll Warm that cold heart of yours!”

Finally, she had arrived to Gilda’s house! It was placed on the ground happily standing. Gabby raced over excitedly and decorated with the last of her decorations. Then she happily knocked on the door, letter in claw.

“Gilda!” She sung, “I got your letter!”

Gilda slowly opened the door to not walk Gabby in the face. It had happened before with many griffons. “Oh Gabby, you did this all yourself again? Pretty good.” Gilda put on a rare smile, “I like your enthusiasm, don5 let anyone take that away from you.”

Gabby felt warmer as result of the compliment, “Aww, thank you Gilda!” She thanked as she passed Gilda the letter.

“Oh cool! It’s from Rainbow Dash!” Right there, she opened it up quickly, gently taking the light blue letter out.

Gabby had learnt a while ago that it was pretty rude to excitedly ask what the letter said. It was none of her business, but she was still curious. “So, she’s inviting you to exchange gifts?” She asked.

Gilda shrugged, “Meh, actually, we kinda do our holiday stuff together after the date. She’s busy with other things anyway, and it’s a long distance from here to Ponyville.”

“Oh, so... you doing anything today?” Gabby asked with a slight smile.

Gilda looked away for a moment and combed her head feathers. “Okay... I may have had planned a little... something...”

Gabby’s face lit up. “What is it!?”

“I had borrowed a recipe and ingediebts for pudding... holiday pudding...”

Gabby gasped with glee, “That is a great idea, Gilda! We can share it with the whole town!” She has both claws on Gilda with excitement. She had a shocked expression before she realised, “Oh! Sorry,” She apologises and removed herself.

Gilda simply brushed it aside from a slight scoff. “How do you expect us to cook and give some for every griffon here? Magic? ‘Cause we don’t have any baking related magic!”

“No silly, we will still bake them! But I did just remember Pinkie did let me borrow an old party cannon of hers to help me with the holiday decorations this year!”

“Hmm... classic Pinkie,” Gilda shrugged, “So, what’s the plan?”

Gabby grinned the widest she could as she stared at

The whole town was covered in Christmas pudding that rained from the sky. Griffins looked at Gabby with annoyance. Gabby looked at them, a bit nervous, “Well, why not give it a try?” She asked, hoping for the best. Some elderly, grey and brown griffon caught a chunk in her claw.

“Well, give it a go!” Gabby encouraged her.

The elderly slowly gave it a bite, “Not bad...” She said rather monotone.

“You like it!?” Gabby exclaimed with glee.

Griffons raced around, gathering as many as they could. Gabby watched with excitement. It worked! They were feeling the cheer! It worked!

Pinkie exclaimed, “Don’t worry everypony! There’s plenty for every-griffin!”

Gabby hugged Pinkie tight, “Thank-you-thank-you-“ She spike so fast, squeezing Pinkie in her huge hug! “Thank you!” She squealed.

Pinkie squealed before having a nervous chuckle, “I’m no longer Pinkie Pie! I’m now Pinkie Pancake!”
