The Alphabet of Starlight and Twilight

by Starlight Fan

D: Danger

Starlight was currently reading a book in the map room peacefully, she needed something to do after all, Twilight was busy at a diplomatic meeting with Dragon Lord Ember and well, she didn’t have much to do. She decided to take it easy, it has been a while since she had one of those.

She had to admit, she was a bit nervous about any of the dragons hurting Twilight but she had confidence in Ember. She’s a good leader and is a good friend, she’ll likely make sure nothing bad happens.

Though it has been a while since she left, Starlight figured Twilight would be back by now.

She’s probably fine. Twilight’s pretty resourceful.

Suddenly Starlight saw Twilight walk in with a sigh of relief, “Hey Starlight.”

“Hey Twilight.” Starlight greeted her girlfriend with a hug, “How’d the meeting go?”

“It ran a bit long but you know, basic business of how to keep dragons and ponies at peace, and not cause any wars. You… probably wouldn’t understand it.” Twilight smiled sheepishly.

“Given I only ran a small village in the stupidest way imaginable, I think I understand your point.” Starlight chuckled as she let go of Twilight, of course she would always regret her villainous past, she’d be an idiot not to, but given she was comfortable around Twilight, she found it easy to make fun of herself a bit.

“Glad we see eye to eye on that.” Twilight laughed a bit, but soon Starlight noticed some singe marks on Twilight’s wings, they were small, but it concerned Starlight a bit.

“Hey Twilight, how come your wings are singed?” Starlight asked curiously, careful not to sound overprotective.

“Oh that.” Twilight raised her wing before smiling dismissively, “It’s not too bad. Just a minor burn.”

“What even happened? Was it the dragons?” Starlight asked with a raised eyebrow.

“No. I was actually flying back home, and I was flying over a volcano when suddenly it erupted and burnt my wings a bit.” Twilight explained calmly much to Starlight’s shock.

Twilight had just told Starlight that she nearly got caught in a volcano eruption, that could have killed her and she was acting so calm about it.

“Twilight… are you okay?” Starlight asked cautiously.

“I mean… my wings sting a bit but otherwise, I don’t feel that bad.” Twilight answered.

“And… you’re not bothered by the fact that you nearly got incinerated by a volcano?” Starlight asked with narrowed eyes.

“I mean why would I be? Sure I stress out from time to time, but I survived worse, plus I didn’t get hurt so not much harm was done.” Twilight shrugged with a smile.

Starlight couldn’t believe this, Twilight seemed so dismissive over the fact she could have died.

“Twilight?! I’m sorry but I can’t just shrug off that you nearly got blasted by a volcano!” Starlight said in bewilderment before Twilight grabbed Starlight shoulders in an attempt to comfort her, “Hey. Don’t worry Starlight. I’m still here. I’m fine.”

Twilight wasn’t sure why Starlight was getting so worked up, she wasn’t sure that it wasn’t such a big deal. The experience was kinda scary but it was over now. However, she could at least sympathize with Starlight’s stress.

“But what if you weren’t?” Starlight asked a bit angrily, “What if you didn’t dodge in time?”

Twilight’s expression seemed to falter before saying, “Well that would be bad… but I did so… it shouldn’t matter.” She then regains a more confident look, “But like I said, I survived worse and I didn’t get hurt.”

“Well it certainly matters to me!” Starlight said, starting to tear up, “You think that just because you’ve survived villainous threats and life threatening situations doesn’t mean I don’t worry about your safety when you do something dangerous. Well you’re wrong Twilight. I do care. I’m not even mad since this was clearly an accident but you could have been a bit more careful and fly around the volcano.”

Twilight was starting to get why Starlight was so upset, “I-I never thought of it that way.” She admitted sheepishly.

“I’m sorry for getting on your case Twilight.” Starlight wiped the tears from her eyes, “I’m glad you’re okay, but sometimes I just worry about losing you. I can’t imagine how I’d feel if you were gone.”

Twilight however, embraced the unicorn tightly, “No no. You were justified in your anger and worry. I’m sorry for not being careful, just because I’m experienced in these type of situations doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be cautious. You’re right, I’ll be more careful.”

Starlight smiled as she leaned into the hug, “You know, despite all the chaos that goes on around us. I’m just glad you’re still here.”

Twilight smiled back as she continued embracing Starlight, “The same applies to you Starlight. The same for you.”

“Did I miss one of your gooey love fests again?” A familiar voice said teasingly, the two turned to see Spike smirking, though it immediately fell once he saw Twilight’s glare, “This ‘gooey love fest’ is a lot more serious than it looks.” Twilight lectured as she and Starlight released each other.

“How so?” Spike asked curiously.

“Let’s just say, Starlight taught me a little lesson in caution.” Twilight explained shortly as she smiled at Starlight warmly who smiled back.
