Today was the day Turquoise challenged the Mahogany Town gym for her seventh badge and she was excited.
“Slow down Turquoise, Do you even know what type the gym leader specializes in?” Fluttershy asked.
“Good point,” Turquoise said. The girls were about to head for the gym to see if there were any hints as to what Turquoise would be dealing with when a couple of trainers came in with their fainted pokemon.
“They don’t call him Icy Pryce for nothing,” One of the trainers said.
“And I thought it was because he was a specialist with Ice-types,” The other trainer said. After hearing it Turquoise went back to thinking since this new information clued her in on what kind of gym the Mahagony Town Gym was.
“Let’s see, ice is strong against ground, dragon, grass, and flying which is what most of my team consists of right now,” Turquoise said while contemplating who she should use.
“Let’s not forget that a good variety of Ice-types are also water-types,” Fluttershy said weighing in on the conversation.
“I know that, Prima taught me that the hard way,” Turquoise said.
“Well your best options are Fighting, Steel, Fire, and Ground,” Fluttershy said.
“The only Fire-type I have is Ninetails and if we are battling on the water she won’t last long, and my only ground-types are also dragon-types which rules them out,” Turquoise said.
“Let’s not focus too much on type advantage just use whoever you think will do best,” Fluttershy said relieving some of Turquoise’s tension.
“Your right I think I know what to do now,” Turquoise said. She then went to the vidphone to call Professor Oak and after a few rings he picked up.
“Turquoise it's always so good to see you, What are you calling about?” Professor Oak asked.
“I’m getting ready for my gym battle in Mahogany Town so I need you to send me my Venusuar,” Turquoise said.
“Good choice, he missed you and will be happy to see you again,” Professor Oak said before getting to the important part. “So who will you be sending over?”
“My Vespiquen since I know she can’t stand the cold very well,” Turquoise said.
“Very well,” Professor Oak said before getting Venusuar ready for transport. A bit later the exchange was complete. “Vespiquen made it on my end.
“And Venusuar arrived on my end,” Turquoise said.
“Good luck with your gym battle,” Professor Oak said before hanging up. The girls went outside for a bit.
“Venusuar come on out,” Turquoise said as she called out Venusuar who was so happy to see Turquoise that he almost knocked her down. “Good to see you too Venusuar.
“So what’s the plan to beat Pryce?” Fluttershy asked.
“Since we don’t know what other types he has I'm just going to wing it,” Turquoise said. The girls left for the gym and as soon as they got there an old lady approached them.
“Are you girls here for a gym battle with my husband?” The lady asked.
“I am,” Turquoise said.
“Then follow me to the battlefield,” The lady said. Sometime later the girls were shown to an ice battlefield with a pool in the middle of it. Suddenly an old man with white hair wearing a blue coat with a white scarf and khaki pants walked onto the opposite side of the battlefield before stabbing his cane into the ground.
“Which of you is my next challenger?” the old man asked.
“I am and I’m going to assume you are the gym leader?” Turquoise asked.
“That’s right, the name is Pryce,” Pryce said. Suddenly the old lady whose name was Shiela took her place on the ref’s spot after getting changed into her judge’s outfit and pulling out her flags.
“The battle between Pryce the Gym Leader and Turquoise the Challenger will now begin, Both sides will you three pokemon and the battle will be over when all three of one side’s pokemon are unable to battle, Finally the challenger may substitute pokemon while the gym leader may not,” Shiela said.
“Got it,” Turquoise said.
“Understood,” Pryce said.
“Alright let's begin,” Shiela said.
“Go Dewgong,” Pryce said as he called out his Dewgong which landed in the pool.
“Go Espeon,” Turquoise said as she called out her Espeon. “Espeon use Swift. Espeon unleashed her Swift which was heading for Dewgong.
“Dodge it Dewgong. Dewgong went underwater and dodged the swift. “Now use Ice Beam. Dewgong fired its Ice beam after resurfacing.
“Dodge that. Espeon tried to dodge but no matter how fast she ran the ice was not giving her any traction.
“Nice try kid but your speed means nothing when battling on an Ice Field,” Pryce said as Espeon was nailed and encased in Ice. Turquoise refused to give up and so did Espeon. “Now use Aurora beam. Dewgong unleashed a rainbow-colored beam that was heading for Espeon.
“Espeon use Psychic. Espeon was not moving due to the ice and as soon as the beam hit Espeon was freed but she sustained some damage. “Return Espeon. After recalling Espeon Turquoise decided to call in her old friend. “Go Venusuar. Venusuar came out and shook the field slightly.
“Going with a grass type this time, interesting,” Pryce said.
“Venusuar use Sludge Bomb. Venusuar spat out blobs of sludge that were heading for Dewgong.
“Counter that with Aurora Beam. Dewgong used its Aurora beam to destroy the blobs which Turquoise was hoping he would do.
“Now use Betal dance while Dewgong is still above the water. Venusuar unleashed his Petal Dance on Dewgong who took it and was sent crashing into an Ice boulder before fainting.
“Dewgong is unable to battle Venusuar is the winner,” Sheila said while pointing her right flag at Turquoise.
“Return Dewgong,” Pryce said before recalling Dewgong. “You did great as always now rest. I must say that was quite clever baiting us with that Sludge bomb.
“Thank you,” Turquoise said.
“However it's not over yet and my next pokemon will turn the tide, Go Weavile,” Pryce said as he called out his Weavile who looked raring to go.
“Return Venusuar,” Turquoise said recalling Venusuar. She wasted no time in calling out her third pokemon for this battle. “Go Gabite. Gabite appeared and managed to maintain its footing on the ice.
“You challenge my Weavile with a ground and dragon type? You are aware that is the worst possible choice to challenge an Ice type,” Pryce said.
“Maybe but I have faith in my pokemon,” Turquoise said.
“So be it, Weavile use Slash. Weavile began skating around the field while slashing at Gabite from all angles.
“Gabite use Bulldoze. Gabite suddenly unleashed a tremor that knocked Weavile off balance. “Now use Sand Tomb. Gabite then trapped Weavile in sand.
“Not bad but it will take more than that to beat us, Weavile use Ice punch to break free. Suddenly the sand turned to Ice which shattered and unleashed Weavile. “Now use Icy wind. Weavile unleashed cold Air on Gabite while skating circles around him.
“Gabite use Dragon Breath while spinning. Gabite unleashed Dragon breath while spinning in place which created a counter shield made from Dragon breath that nailed Weavile with each rotation until it fainted.
“Weavile is unable to battle, Gabite is the winner,” Sheila said while pointing her right flag at Turquoise.
“Return Weavile,” Pryce said as he recalled Weavile. “You did your best now rest. I must say the way you used Dragon Breath was quite unconventional.
“Its called a counter shield,” Turquoise said.
“Well now playtime is over time for me to show you my trusted partner, Go Mamoswine,” Pryce said before calling out a massive pokemon that looked like a mammoth. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for information.
“Mamoswine, The Twin Tusk Pokemon, This Pokémon can be spotted in wall paintings from as far back as 10,000 years ago. For a while, it was thought to have gone extinct,” The Pokedex said.
“I will stick with my Gabite,” Turquoise said.
“Very well. Mamoswine use hail. Mamoswine unleashed a white ball that suddenly created a snowstorm that covered the field and obscured Mamoswine from view.
“Gabite use Bulldoze. Gabite shook the field but Mamoswine barely felt anything.
“Mamoswine use Blizzard. Mamoswine unleashed a powerful blizzard that not only covered the field but froze the pool also. Gabite was feeling it and was knocked out in a single hit.
“Gabite is unable to battle, Mamoswine is the winner,” Sheila said while pointing her left flag at Pryce.
“Return Gabite,” Turquoise said while recalling Gabite. “You battled hard now rest. Turquoise knew what she had to do in order to win. “Go Espeon.
“That again what difference will it make this time?” Pryce said. Mamoswine use Iron head. Mamoswine charged at Espeon with a head covered in iron.
“Espeon use Psychic on yourself to dodge. Espeon used Psychic on herself to levitate into the air and out of the way. “Now use psybeam from above. Espeon unleashed a powerful psybeam which dealt some massive damage but not enough to beat Mamoswine.
“I will admit that was clever but we are not out yet, Mamoswine use Ancient Power and wait for Espeon to land. As soon as Espeon landed Mamoswine unleashed Ancient Power which managed to nail Espeon for great damage but not enough to finish her.
“We won’t fall that easily, Espeon use Morning Sun to heal yourself. Espeon was able to recover enough health for one last attack since she could not get more due to the hail. “Now use Psybeam with all you got.
“We also won’t go down, Mamoswine use Blizzard. Mamoswine unleashed another Blizzard and both moves managed to hit their marks. Mamoswine survived the Psybeam but Espeon fainted from the Blizzard.
“Espeon is unable to battle, Mamoswine is the winner,” Shiela said while pointing her left flag at Pryce.
“Return Espeon,” Turquoise said as she recalled Espeon. “You did great my friend now rest. Turquoise noticed that Mamoswine was beginning to feel tired which meant the previous battle have worn it down and victory was almost hers. “Go Venusuar. Venusuar returned and was still feeling fresh.
“I will admit I enjoyed this battle but now it's time to end it, Mamoswine use blizzard. Mamoswine unleashed Blizzard for the third time which did not faze Turquoise this time.
“Venusuar use Petal Blizzard. Venusuar retaliated with a blizzard of pink flower petals that clashed and caused both moves to cancel each other out along with the hail. “Now finish this with Frenzy Plant. Venusuar unleashed his Frenzy Plant which managed to hit mamoswine for some major damage and knocked it out.
“Mamoswine is unable to battle, Venusuar is the winner which means victory goes to Turquoise,” Shiela said while pointing her right flag at Turquoise.
“We did it we won,” Turquoise said while hugging Venusuar. Pryce approached Turquoise after recalling Mamoswine.
“Turquoise that was a most excellent battle and as proof of your victory here at the Mahogany town Gym I present you with the Glacier badge,” Pryce said before giving Turquoise a badge shaped like a snowflake.
“Thank you,” Turquoise said.
“So where do you plan to go next?” Pryce asked.
“To wherever the next gym is,” Turquoise said.
“In that case, the next one is in Blackthorn City,” Pryce said. Turquoise used her Pokegear to check where it was and noticed it was quite a ways away.
“Then it looks like we better get going since it's a long way away,” Turquoise said.
“Good luck on the rest of your journey,” Pryce said before the girls left. After healing her pokemon Turquoise sent Venusuar back to the lab and brought back Vespiquen. With the excitement of today now concluded the girls went to bed.
The next day Turquoise and Fluttershy were eating breakfast while watching the coverage of the latest contest where Emma won her fifth ribbon.
“And that was coverage of Emma’s victory at the Winterton City Pokemon contest, for those of you who are still aiming for the Grand festival do not panic because there are still five more ribbons left so give it your all,” Julian said before the coverage ended.
“Let's hope there is a contest somewhere along the way to Blackthorn City,” Turquoise said.
“I’m sure we will find one when we least expect it,” Fluttershy said. After cleaning up the girls left and continued on the road with a new destination. Where will our heroes go next? Find out as the journey continues.
