My Little Pony: Sparkling Harmony: Season Three

Episode 23: All you need is your beat!

“So.” Sparkler said as she paced back and forth in front of Moondancer and Twilight. “Moondancer has been a dancing genius for the entire time you have known each other, you two have hung out together on multiple occasions before Twilight came to Ponyville, and, Moondancer, you’ve SEEN her dance at school functions and the like. And yet Twilight is STILL a mare with four left hooves.” She said. “Do I understand that correctly?” She asked.

“Yep.” Moondancer responded.

“Pretty much.” Twilight said.

Sparkler nodded. It was a beautiful summer day, and it was the day that she and Moondancer agreed on to finally make a dancer out of Twilight. A good one. “Ok. So as you can imagine, I have some questions. Not the least being, HOW is Twilight still so bad at dancing?!” She asked.

“We uh…” Twilight trailed off, not knowing what to say.

“I guess it just never came up.” Moondancer said.

“Never came up? Moondancer, how many times have you seen her dance? Didn’t you WANT to ensure she doesn’t embarrass herself?” Sparkler asked.

“Hey. For your information I do not get embarrassed when I dance.” Twilight defended herself.

“Don’t you think your friends get embarrassed?” Sparkler asked.

Twilight remained silent. Sparkler nodded. “Well, doesn’t matter now. Because today is the day that we finally get you dancing like a pro.” Sparkler declared.

“Still can’t believe I let you two talk me into this.” Twilight commented. “You two realize dancing isn’t a necessary—“

Sparkler made a wrong answer sound effect. “Eh, wrong. It IS necessary. What if you had to win a dance battle to save Equestria?” Sparkler asked.

Twilight’s eyes widened in shock. “Wow. You went there.” She said.

“You bet I did.” Sparkler said. “Trust us Twi. We wouldn’t be bothering if we didn’t think it was important.”

Twilight glanced between Sparkler and Moondancer, before sighing in defeat. “When I thought about the three of us together, I didn’t think you two would be ganging up on me like this.” She commented.

“Thought we’d gang up on you in a different scenario?” Moondancer asked.

“Moondancer, keep it PG for the readers.” Sparkler said.

“Fine.” Moondancer responded.

Twilight, hearing that, blushed like mad. “Yeah let’s circle back to dancing shall we?” She asked quickly.

Sparkler nodded. “Yes. Let’s get started.” She said, she pressed a button on a remote, and the stage room, which they were in, sprang to life. “And what better way to learn than by doing it to this brand new song that Moondancer and I whipped up over the weekend precisely for this purpose?” She asked.

Twilight’s eyes widened in shock as she heard the music start. “You two went to the trouble of making a new song for this?” She asked.

“Sparkler reasoned that it would make it more special if we made a song for you to learn how to dance to.” Moondancer responded, hoof bumping Sparkler.

Twilight stared at her fiancé and her marefriend, before smiling widely. “Aww. That’s so sweet.” She said.

“You know it.” Sparkler responded. “Now, check this out.” She said as she launched into the song.

🎶First things first you
Gotta look for the spark

That bit of magic way
Down deep in your heart

It’s the rhythm that
Connects us

When you find it yeah
Now that’s a great start

Dancing’s easy
Just like reading a book

And once you get it
It won’t go away

It’s the groove that sticks
With you

Gets stuck like this catchy
song we’re singing now

You gotta follow your beat
And then soon you will see

You won't have that far to go
Until vour song starts to grow

All you need is your beat

All you need is your groove
To get them stompin'
their hooves

And then the next thing
you know imagination will flow

All you need is your beat
All you need is your beat

Now that you’ve got rhythm
You have to listen hard

As those airwaves are
Transmitted to your brain

And when it gets those signals
It will tell your body what it
should do

You gotta follow your beat
And then soon you will see

You won't have that far to go
Until vour song starts to grow

All you need is your beat

All you need is your groove
To get them stompin'
their hooves

And then the next thing
you know imagination will flow

All you need is your beat
All you need is your beat🎶

While they were singing, Moondancer and Sparkler guided Twilight through how to dance properly. Twilight initially wasn’t having much luck, but she was quickly getting the hang of it, and after a couple of hours, she was dancing on her own without assistance. Sparkler and Moondancer smiled when she started doing that.

🎶That’s it girl
Shake your tail

Hear that beat
And move
your hooves

And now you’ve found
Your dancing spark

Let it shine for
All to see!

You gotta follow your beat
And then soon you will see

You won't have that far to go
Until vour song starts to grow

All you need is your beat

All you need is your groove
To get them stompin'
their hooves

And then the next thing
you know imagination will flow

All you need is your beat

You gotta follow your beat
And then soon you will see

You won't have that far to go
Until vour song starts to grow

All you need is your beat

All you need is your groove
To get them stompin'
their hooves

And then the next thing
you know imagination will flow

All you need is your beat
All you need is your beat

All you need is your beat

All you need is your beat!🎶

That night, Sparkler led her friends, both from Ponyville and from Saddle Arabia, to the stage room, after inviting them to see a spectacle.

“Now what’s this about Sparkler?” Applejack asked.

“Yeah, you didn’t go into much detail when you sent for us.” Rainbow said.

Sparkler was about to answer, before Pinkie cut her off. “Isn’t it obvious?! Sparkler and Moondancer spent today teaching Twilight how to actually dance and now we’re about to see the fruits of that labor!” She said.

“Whoa, wait Twilight doesn’t suck anymore?” Rainbow asked.

“Sparkler, PLEASE tell me that’s true.” Flash said. “I can’t go through another Royal function that lets her dance.” He pleaded with her.

Sparkler glared at Pinkie for ruining the surprise, but nodded. “Yes guys. What Pinkie said is true. No longer will you have to suffer through Twilight’s four left hooves. Now she has two right and two left hooves.” She said as she brought all of them into the stage room.

Moondancer was up on stage with a mic. Once she saw everypony get settled, she spoke. “Ahem, welcome fillies and gentlecolts, tonight you shall witness history being made, as an amature dancer blossoms into a pro. Hit it!” She called out.

The music started, the light show began, and a puff of magenta smoke appeared out of nowhere and cleared up to reveal Twilight, who started busting a move.

All the friends watched, and true to Sparkler’s word, Twilight no longer sucked at dancing. It was surreal almost.

Half way through. Flash leaned over to whisper into Sparkler’s ear. “You did all of Equestria an incredible service today.” He said, winking at her.

Sparkler and Moondancer smiled and bumped their hooves together. They were proud of themselves and Twilight for their work today. Moondancer sneaked a glance at Sparkler, and blushed lightly. She and I clearly make a good team. And we sound good when singing together. She noted. She wouldn’t deny that she had a blast working with Sparkler on the song, and today when they taught Twilight how to dance correctly. This is going in the research log. She told herself, making a note to add to her research journal after this.
