Chapter IX - Philomena.

Today was the last day of vacation, and Celestia was almost impossible to calm down. In a few hours, we will be heading to the school to start a new year, and they are gonna have their first first day of school. Now their nervousness was at its peak, and they didn't wanna go to sleep. Even if they were tired as a... well, I don't know any thing I can compare them to, but today we went to a park and started racing each other for hours, so they are REALLY tired.

"No!" Celestia shouted. "I don't wanna sleep yet! *yawns* It's too early to sleep."

"Tia, It's already 10:45 PM." I responded. "If you don't sleep now, you'll be tired tomorrow, and in your first day of school! Just look at Luna and Melissa, they are already asleep." I said while pointing my and her sister already asleep on their respective beds.

"But, *yawns* I'm not tired."

"Your yawning tells me another thing." I said while trying to contain my laughing. "And I'm tired as well, so please, can we just sleep now?"

She looked mad at me and then spoke:

"I just wish day lasted forever."

"Oh, but that will be a very bad thing." I responded.

"But why? Daytime is the best time, it's not as cold as night, it's not dark and creepy, and you can play on it!"

"But if daytime lasted forever, life would be impossible." I responded.

"Wait, really!?" she shouted with a worried expression.

"Nighttime is required for the temperature to get cold again. Without it, temperature will just get hotter and hotter until the earth becomes an oven. And that's not a good thing, right?"

"I, never thought about that." she responded. "I didn't knew nighttime was required."

"It is, now come on. Let's get you to sleep."

And here we are, at the front of the school. We entered as mom leaved with the car, and the fillies immediately caught all of the eyes of the children. At this, Luna hugged my leg with fear, and Celestia seemed that wanted to do the same, but I spoke to them:

"Don't worry. With enough time, they'll see you as normal students, and some of them, as friends. Common, I'll show you where your classroom is."

After leaving the fillies at their new class, I headed to my own. I reunited with my classmates, (which didn't stopped asking me things about Celestia and Luna) and started my favorite class: physics. After it, and an hour of literature, it will be break time and I would have checked on Tia and Luna... if our recesses coincided. I just hope that they do ok.

"Hello kids!" the teacher said. "I'm miss Rose. This year, 2 new students will join us. They are a bit different from you and me, but I know that you can treat them with the same kindness you show to each other. Now, meet Celestia and Luna Tyler!" she said as the fillies leaved their hiding spot behind the teacher's table.

The kids in the classroom were astonished at the presence of the alicorns. Some of them knew about the existence of the 2 sapient ponies, but never thought that they are going to come to their school. Meanwhile, Celestia and Luna just took their seats, and avoided eye contact with anyone beside the teacher. They were too nervous to talk to anyone.

After an hour, the bell rang, meaning that the recess of the little children just started. In an instant, all of the children leaved the classroom, leaving Celestia and Luna confused.

"Um, teacher." Celestia spoke. "What's happening now?"

"It's break time." she answered.

"And what are we supposed to do?" Luna asked.

"Well... you know, go out, play something, and make some friends."

"O-ok miss Rose." the white filly managed to say.

Then, both fillies went out of the classroom and immediately searched for any signal of William or Melissa, but none of them were around. They decided to go to the exterior park beacouse, in Tia's opinion, it had pretty colors. When they went out, half of the kids out there stared at them as if they were an alien thing, which was not far from being true.

They just sat beside a tree that was on the place, and stared at the other kids as they were playing. They were too nervous to do anything or even talk to each other, until their pony ears perceived a very familiar noise at the other part of the tree: the sound of pain.

"NO! STOP IT!" they heard a girl's voice shout from behind the tree. "You don't see that is injured? It fell from its nest!"

"Common Lara." the voice of a child spoke up. "It's just a bird, and a very old one. It will probably die soon anyways."

When the two fillies went to see what was going on, they found that a girl the age of the kids in their class, was trying to protect a very old and injured bird from another kid with a rock on his hands. The scene in front of their eyes remembered them so much about them, that Celestia decided to speak.

"Hey, wh-what are you go-gonna do with that stone?"

The kid them approached to the fillies, but then he noticed that a teacher was staring directly at them, so he decided to drop his rock and say "Nothing." and leave.

After that, Lara stared at the two sisters with astonishment. She saw when those fillies joined her class, but wasn't brave enough to go and talk to them. But now that the situation presented itself, she decided to speak:

"A-are you unicorns?"

"Well, since we have wings, technically we are alicorns." Luna spoke.

"What was that kid trying to do with the rock?" Tia asked.

"He wanted to... he wanted to... he wanted to crush this bird." she said while pointing a finger to the injured bird on the ground.

"Oh no," Celestia spoke, "she's injured!"

"She fell of her nest up there." Lara said pointing to a pile of sticks in the tree. "She got too old to fly." she said with a sad voice. "And she's dying."

"DYING!" Celestia shouted, as her horn began to glow. "No! She can't die, not NOW!" she shouted as a blinding light emanated from her horn.

After the light was gone, all that remained from the bird was a pile of ashes. The girls were very scared at this, until something red and orange emerged from the ashes. It was the same size and shape as the bird that was there before, although her feathers were now colored red and orange, and its peak was as shiny as gold.

After rising, she immediately landed on Celestias back. It the mind of the bird, no human, besides Lara, has been kind to her. And now some weird quadrupeds saved her from death. And even though she wasn't sure of how, she wanted to thank them.

"Wow!" Lara said. "What was THAT!"

"I-I think I used my magic," Celestia said, "sorry."

"Sorry!?" Lara answered to Celestia. "I've met this bird last year and thought that it wouldn't survive vacations. And then you use MAGIC to avoid her death!? I think that that's not a thing to be sorry about."

"You know this bird?" Luna asked. "Does she has a name?"

"Well, I named her Philomena."

"Skuark!" Philomena shouted after hearing her name.

"I'm Lara by the way." the girl said. "I heard about you on the news, but I don't think I remember your names."

"I'm Luna."

"And I'm Celestia, but you can call me Tia."

The girls didn't knew it yet, but that was the beginning of a friendship.

"How was your day?" I asked to both fillies as they found me outside of the school.

"Great!" both fillies shouted.

"And we made two friends!" Celestia shouted.

"Oh, nice. Could I ask their names?"

"Yes, Lara and Philomena." Luna stated.

"Philomena?" I asked a bit confused, I didn't knew Philomena was a name.

"SKUARK!!!" I heard from above.

Then, what happened was something I never thought I'll ever see. A bird covered in flames was flying towards me and, when she was close enough, she fired flames to me, that would have burned my face, if it wasn't by a golden and transparent wall that blocked it.

We were back at home, after I almost died. Tia was shouting something to 'Philomena'. I guess that the now magical bird can now understand her, otherwise I don't understand.

Then, the phoenix flew towards me, and placed her head towards me, as if it was an: I'm sorry, and y petted her on the head.

"I'm so sorry William." the white alicorn spoke up. "I never though my magic could make this kind of things."

"Don't worry," I responded to her, "As long as mom doesn't know what she almost did to me, this topic will be closed right here."

"Bu-but that's not what worries me!" she shouted. "What if I hurt you with my magic? What if I'm dangerous?"

She had a point, but I don't wanted to make her afraid of herself, so I spoke:

"Then we will teach you how to control it."

"You know how!?" she exclaimed.

"No, but there always has to be the first one at something. We can practice on this Saturday."

"Really!?"

"Yes, and Luna will come too. I think she might need it as well."
