Lay Her Down

by Get Bent

thanks, dad

Feeling your toes in the sand, you watched as the bright blue waves crashed onto the shore, one after the other. Despite the constant barrage of noise, the beach remained calm and serene. The cold nighttime air and imposing darkness, both things usually seen as less-than-pleasant, did nothing but make the situation more perfect. At least, in your eyes. You loved the beach. Night or day, it was amazing.

The only thing that could make this better is if you had a beautiful woman by your side. A woman who had stayed with you through thick and thin. A woman who loved you for who you were, and who you loved right back for those same reasons. A woman that you had no problem spending the rest of your life with.

Oh, wait.

You looked to your right, and there lied Princess Celestia. She was… co-ruler of Equestria, sister of Princess Luna, raiser of the sun, best Princess, and the self-proclaimed ‘queen of cake’.

…And you, average man, had a loving arm wrapped around her. As if this was some kind of anniversary date or something.

Oh, wait.

Yeah. That’s right. Two in a row bitch.

You were, in fact, in a relationship with a horse Princess. It was true. Judge ruled guilty.

The allegations were true. Anonymous had been sleeping with a horse.

That sounded really bad.

Thank God you weren’t on Earth anymore. Saying something like that would’ve gotten you crucified. Either that or praised by internet weirdos.

Who knows.

You watched calmly as the moon was lowered from its spot in the sky. That meant Celestia needed to raise the sun soon.

She would wake up, and you wouldn’t be able to feel this serenity for much longer.

The feeling of everything was… different when it was just your consciousness. When you were the last one awake at the sleepover, or when you were the only one awake in a normally large house because you had to go pee.

It was different, and you loved it.

Nearly as much as you loved your horse girlfriend.

…eugh. That was cheesy. Cheesy and terrible. But you just proved the allegations to be even more true. What loser would say something like that about a friend?

Nah son. Horse girlfriend.

“At least the allegations were somewhat good this time.” You muttered, remembering time from a past life. What?

“What’s this about allegations?” Celestia muttered, nuzzling into your side. Fuck. She was waking up.

“Nothing dear.” You coughed. The words ‘this dude wearing the same underwear from yesterday!’ Rang in your mind, but you ignored them. No. That was… that was an old life.

You were a different man. You change your underwear every day. Fuck you Travis. Asshole.

“I thought you were asleep?” You asked, ignoring the side of your brain that wanted to beat up Travis.

You looked down at her, cocking your head to the side in a questioning manner. She hadn’t moved for an hour or so. It was the only conclusion you could come to.

However, she seemed like she was wide-eyed and ready for action.

Huh. This early?

“Internal clock, Anon.” She said, slowly beginning to stand up. No, no…

Given you were taller than her, you didn’t have to move your arm much as she did so, but you still didn’t want her standing up!

“Don’t, lie down…” You said, whimpering. That was pathetic. But you wanted to hold on.

You didn’t want real life to start happening yet.

“Don’t lie down?” She asked. Cheeky bastard. “Okay.”

“You know what I meant.” You grumble. “Lie down, Celestia.” You say, like a spoiled child, and tighten your grip.

She shook her head. “I need to raise the sun.” She muttered, and blinked twice. She must’ve been somewhat groggy still.

“Well, you can do that… while lying down.” You tugged. She could. It was true.

She made a noise, somewhere between a whine and a sigh, and you tugged again.

“Annoooonn…” She groaned.

You pulled out your secret weapon.

“Cellllyy…”

She loved that name. She loved when you called her that.

The ‘Schmoove Zone’ was being entered.

She ‘harumph’d, and shook her head again in mock concession. “Oh, alright…”

She lied back down on the sand, and then shuffled a little bit to find a better position. As one does. Sand sucks.

It’s coarse, it’s rough. And it-

You felt a minor muscle spasm.

-You tightened your grip on her. It had loosened when she sat down.

She sighed happily. You did too.

You smiled. She smiled.

Her yellow magic, bright as could be, lit up the beach around you as she began cast the spell to raise the sun. The celestial body floated up from nowhere as a certain song played in your mind on loop. Only difference between the situation in the song and the one currently happening was the lack of guns and sheriffs. Damn. That adventure would’ve been cool.

Giving Celestia a kiss on the forehead as she finished her spell, though, made you realize that you honestly did not care.

Looking out at the ocean, you considered it.

It only took a second of thought before you went for it.

“I love you, Celly.” You whispered.

The sound of the waves made it hard to hear. That was kind of what you had hoped for. Even after being together all that time, you still found yourself afraid to say those words.

They were words that always had such a weight behind them. Such a… deep meaning. Words that can’t be tossed around all willy-nilly.

At least, that’s what your mom always told you.

“I love you too, Anon.” She whispered back.

Your heart hurt upon hearing that.

But it… was the good hurt.

You had butterflies. You just didn’t know what that really felt like until now.

The aura of confidence you always exuded had only ever cracked around… her.

You smiled. She nuzzled you again.

Guns or no guns, sheriff or no sheriff, your guys’ time had come.

We had walked down to the ocean…

And we sat with the rising sun.
