Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Twilight slumped on separate logs all around a single table. Single, just like they were yesterday, on Hearts and Hooves day. A day where you and that's special somepony could get together and do something fun on a day made especially for the two of you.

"I wish I had a special somepony yesterday..." Rarity whined. "He could've brought me flowers and chocolates, it would've been simply divine..."
Giving her a sympathetinc look, the others agreed, as Pinkie Pie, cheerful as a robin, came bounding up to her friends, a plateful of fresh strawberry cupcakes in her hooves.
"Hey guys, why the long faces? Oh-- I know! Try these!" She said happily, placing one of her special cupcakes in front of each pony. "These were my special Hearts and Hoves day cupcakes! I was planning on selling them yesterday, but I never got to making them, so you can do the honors of eating the first ones!"
They looked delicious. A pink dab of frosting with miniature horseshoe sprinkles and hearts, on top of a vanilla cupcake, which, if eaten, would make any pony smile. The aroma of strawberries wafted through the air, and the ponies, who were sad to have been lonely on such a love filled day, gobbled up the cupcakes with savory delight.
"wow, these are delicious!!" They all said, in perfect unison.
"Oh, thank you! I knew they'd taste all right, I'm sure everypony I sell them to today will be just as happy!" Pinkie smiled. "I'm going back inside, I need to go make more!"
Rainbow smiled, and said startled, "Oh yeah, Twi, almost forgot." Pulling out a small package and placing it in front of twilight, she continued, "This arrived at my house today. It was addressed to you, so I guess they got the wrong address or something. Why don't you open it now?" She finished.
Delighted, Twilight nodded, and looked at the package. It was a box, wrapped neatly in a light pink wrapping paper, with small scribbled birds as decoration.

Unwrapping it carefully, trying not to make too many obvious tears in the paper, she pulled out a white box. Opening it, she pulled out a velvety soft board, with a necklace attached to the grooves in the fabric. It was a deep luxurious purple jemstone, cut into a pristine star, with mini opals bordering it. Smiling, Twilight put the necklace on herself, admiring the shimmer, and how well it looked against her lavender pelt.
"I-it's so beautiful..." She beamed. "It looks like something you would make, Rarity!"
Startled, Rarity shook her head. "No no, I couldn't possibly make something like that. But it does look darling on you, Twilight Sparkle. The color goes perfectly with your mane!" She complimented.
Twilight thanked her. But she looked a bit bothered. Concerned, Fluttershy asked her if something was troubling her.
Nodding, Twilight said "But... I just don't know one thing- who is it from? There wasn't any name on the box, or the wrapping paper. This is going to kill me if I don't find out..."
Just as she finished her sentence, Pinkie bounded up again, popping her head out from behind Random walls as always. "Why don't you go and search for them? I'm sure you'll find them around Ponyville." She suggested.
Twilight, thinking that it was a great idea, gathered her things, licked that last bit of frosting off her hooves, bid her friends farewell, and left in search of the anonymous benefactor.

She'd decided to head for all of the jewelry stores, which were clustered in one corner of the square, and were always competing for a buyer. As she arrived, she was bombarded with bargains, shining silver and gold chains were shoved in her face, and jewels were stuffed into her view. Pushing them all away, and persuading the venders to believe that she was not buying anything, she walked up to a seller. He was a well built stallion, a pristine white apron on.
"May I.... Help you?" He said, elongating his 'I'.
"Yes, please. I was wondering if--" She was interrupted.
"Well what can I.... Do ya for? I've got some nice gems, some good necklaces, some pretty brace--"
"No thank you." Twilight finished him off. "I was wondering if anypony bought a necklace like this one, or at least a part of it."
The shopkeeper shook his head no, and Twilight, disappointed but still hopeful, trotted off to the next Vender.

The answer was still no, for every single seller. Disheartened, she sulked up to the last Vender, a blue mare with green eyes and a purple mane.
"Hello, Twilight. May I help you?" She asked, a twinkle in her eye.
"Yes please..." Twilight said. "Did anypony come to your stall and ask for a necklace just like the one I'm wearing?"
The mare, a soft frown on her face, shook her head no. "Sorry, Twilight. Nopony ever came to my stall today or yesterday.."
Twilight thanked her, and walked away, back to the table where her friends were, disappointed.

"Hey Twi!" Rainbow Dash greeted. "How'd it go, find them?"
Twilight shook her head and sat down. A drink was in front of her. It looked like some kind of lemonade, only it was purple and pink, swished around. She took a few sips. It was delicious, and made her smile. It was obviously Pinkie's doing.
"Don't worry, Twilight!" Applejack said, a kind smile on her face. "Guys? I think we had better tell her."
Everypony looked at how sad twilight seemed, and nodded, smiles on their faces.
"It was us!" They all said.
Twilight looked up in surprise. "W-what?!" She exclaimed. "Then why did you send me off to find out who it was?!"
"Well, we wanted to have enough time to prepare for your party!!" They all replied.
"My... Party?? Why am I having a party??" Twilight inquired.
"Oh, you silly- you forgot?" Pinkie Pie giggled. "It your most special day today!"
"We'll give you a reminder." Applejack told her confused friend.
As soon as Applejack had finished her sentence, a banner, decorated with birds, flowers, and tiny diamonds, came into view. Something was written on it, in purple, pink and lavender.

'Happy Birthday, Twilight!'
