Scootaloo Takes Flight

Learning how to fly

It was just another day over at the ranch for Megan Williams until she got a visit from Applejack coming over to her to tell her what was going on.

"Some of us are getting a float ready for the Summer Harvest Festival over at Sweet Apple Acres and we would like you to be there." said Applejack.

"Is there anything that I'm needed for?" asked Megan.

Applejack answered, "You'll know once we get there.

They both went through the portal and headed towards Sweet Apple Acres. As they got there, Rainbow Dash and Rarity were there to greet them. Also, there was Apple Bloom, Sweetie Bell, and Scootaloo of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, who too were happy to meet Megan as they did the last time.

Megan then asked, "What exactly am I needed for?"

Rarity answered, "We would like to keep our little sisters busy while we continue to work on the float."

Megan then thought, "Why do you need me for that?"

Rainbow Dash added, "After the last time you spent with them, it seemed as if you are the best choice for being with them, plus they claimed that they enjoyed being with you."

Applejack weighed in with, "If that wasn't the case, I wouldn't have gone through the portal to get you."

Megan agreed to take the Cutie Mark Crusaders over to the meadow so that the others can work on the float. She asked what they wanted to do to help pass the time. However, she then noticed Scootaloo moping as if something was bothering her.

"Is there something wrong, Scootaloo?" asked Megan.

"I just feel useless compared to the rest." replied Scootaloo.

Megan looked at the other two and asked, "What does she mean by saying that?"

Sweetie Bell answered, "Scootaloo is still sad that she can't fly."

Apple Bloom added, "Whenever she sees Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, or even any other pegasus or alicorn flying including Princess Flurry Hear despite being much younger, she tends to feel left out and sad about it."

Scootaloo mentioned, "Even these two are more useful than me. Sweetie Bell can easily help Rarity in a lot of things now that she knows how to levitate heavier objects, while Apple Bloom knows how to get apples down from the tree along with Applejack just by kicking it. However, I still can't fly, which makes me useless when it comes to helping Rainbow Dash."

Megan stated, "There can be other ways to make you useful even without flight, but if that's the issue, we can use this time to help you fly."

Scootaloo then asked, "How exactly can you help when you can't even fly yourself?"

Megan answered, "I can help coach you if that's what you want."

Scootaloo then agreed to allow for Megan to help her with flying.

Megan mentioned, "For your first lesson, I want you to jump up and flap your wings for movement."

"It's just too hard!" replied Scootaloo as she kept coming back to the ground.

"It's not hard, you just have to keep trying!" shouted Megan.

Megan then thought of another way to help Scootaloo fly by having her do a running start like an airplane and then jump and try to fly again. Unfortunately, that had no good results either as it got the filly nowhere. Her next idea was to have Scootaloo try from a tree branch like a baby bird and jump off of it as it was a diving board, but that only made Scootaloo feel scared as she was looking down. She then thought that Sweetie Bell could levitate Scootaloo a bit and let go when ready, but she said no to even that as she didn't want to try anymore. Megan then came over to the branch to bring her back down as the filly was too scared to even leave the branch herself and pet her a bit in hopes of calming her down.

"I just can't do it! I feel as if I should just give up on trying to fly altogether. This has been nothing but a lost cause! Maybe I should ask a pony who knows some good spells and remove my wings, so that they won't feel useless. I feel that there is no further point in me being a pegasus if I can't seem to fly." shouted Scootaloo.

"I believe that you can do it, but it seems as if there is something in your head that's preventing you from doing so. However, I don't believe that this is a lost cause. Such a thing only exists if you allow it to. Perhaps a good song could motivate you to fly." replied Megan.

Megan then took out her smartphone and played "I Believe I Can Fly" by R Kelly in hoping that it would help Scootaloo.

"How exactly is the song going to help me fly?" asked Scootaloo.

"I just thought it could help you since the song itself would give you that confidence." answered Megan.

"Well, it just doesn't!" shouted Scootaloo.

Megan claimed, "The only reason you seem to give up on wanting to fly is that you have almost no faith or belief in yourself in doing this. Sometimes it just takes a good number tries before you can get something done. Most of those who try something new can never seem to get it on the first attempt, but we keep trying again until we get it."

After getting a better understanding, Scootaloo then asked, "What do you mean by saying that?"

Megan then answered, "Do you think Twilight flew well the first time she became an alicorn and got her wings? The answer is no. She even needed Rainbow Dash to help her despite how embarrassing it was for her. I'm even sure that Rainbow Dash herself had problems when she first learned how to fly and eventually got it, so this isn't something new here."

"Actually, Rainbow Dash was sort of a natural when it came to flying" replied Scootaloo.

Megan claimed, "Even if that was the case, it doesn't mean that you should give up. Just keep on trying and you'll get it and one point no matter how tries it takes you to fly. If you fall of a horse, just get back on it and ride it again."

"Did you actually fall off of a pony or horse for real and did it hurt?" asked Sweetie Bell.

"It did when that happened to me when I was trying to ride TJ back at my ranch, but it didn't stop me from trying to ride him. However, the expression is really about why it's important to keep trying even when you fail. In reality, the only one that can really stop you from doing something is yourself." answered Megan.

"Are you saying that in your world humans actually ride ponies?" asked Apple Bloom feeling a little puzzled.

"Back in my world, ponies are seen as pets and other service animals that you probably heard from your older sisters when they spent some time with me, Danny, and Molly at the ranch when they wanted to see what my world was like to them." replied Megan.

Scootaloo then said, "Even knowing about that, I still can't seem to fly."

Megan claimed, "Even for other things I had to do, it took a good number of tries before getting it. I can remember when I also had to ride a bicycle or even drive a car, but I did get the hang of it eventually. I believe that at one point you really can fly just like any other pegasus, but I feel that the only reason you can't is because you're just preventing yourself from doing so."

Scootaloo mentioned, "Maybe it's just that I'm too afraid to fly."

Megan then stated, "It's normal to be afraid of something that you're not used to doing originally especially when it involves doing something for the first time. This happens to almost everyone. Besides the stuff I did back in my world, I was even scared when I first came to your world back when it was Ponyland whether it was Firefly just dragging me in or even when a Stratadon grabbed me the moment I met the other ponies at the time only to almost fall to my death just to be saved by Scorpan. Overall, there is nothing with being afraid of trying to do something that is completely new to you, and even I'm not an exception to that rule."

Megan then went to her smartphone and played Unwritten by Natasha Beddingfield in hopes that song would motivate Scootaloo, but she wound up getting similar results instead.

"How exactly is this song supposed to help me?" asked Scootaloo.

"It's supposed state that only you can let things happen for yourself and not others be it myself, Rainbow Dash, your friends, or anyone else." replied Megan.

"It still doesn't work!" shouted Scootaloo.

Megan then looked at the other two and said, "Maybe we should give Scootaloo some space and head back to the farm."

Sweetie Bell asked, "Does this mean that you're giving up on helping Scootaloo fly?"

Megan answered as they got further away from Scootaloo, "No, but I think we could do something that could help her fly."

Apple Bloom asked as well, "What exactly do have planned Megan?"

Megan mentioned, "You'll know what it is when we get there, but don't tell Scootaloo."

After feeling a bit more decent, Scootaloo decided to walk back to the barn to join the rest only to find Rainbow Dash on the ground as if her wings were hurt and was unable to fly.

Scootaloo asked out of concern, "What happened to you Rainbow Dash?"

Rainbow Dash mentioned, "The float started to roll away and lose control. Rarity and Sweetie Bell attempted to stop it in place with their horns while Applejack and Apple Bloom are doing whatever they can with their heads and hooves to push it back. However, I was supposed to help Megan with a rope to help push it back as well, but the float sort of went over me and hurt my wings, so I can't help her. It's up to you take my place and help the rest stop that float from crashing into something and getting ruined."

Scootaloo stated once again, "How can I even help them if I can't even fly."

Rainbow Dash stated, "I believe that you can little buddy and so does Megan, plus I have faith in you."

Scootaloo then kept jumping up and flapping her wing several times out of panic. She even tried to make a running start that Megan taught her earlier. Then out of desperation, she then decided to jump off of a branch in hopes that it will work while having those two songs that she heard earlier stuck in her head.

"I can't believe that I'm actually flying!" shouted Scootaloo after feeling excited to finally fly.

What Scootaloo didn't know is that Rainbow Dash left not long after she flew away and felt quietly happy of her young cousin being able to finally accomplish it.

Scootaloo then saw the rest trying to stop the float and asked, "What do you want me to do here to help the rest of you?"

Megan answered, "First of all, I'm glad that you're able to fly, and now I want to you fly up with the other end of the rope to where my hand is an align with so that we can stop the float."

The team was able to get the float back into the barn, but then Scootaloo started to ask questions especially when she saw Rainbow Dash back there as if her wings were never hurt to start with.

"Rainbow Dash, were your wings even hurt to begin with?" asked Scootaloo.

"Not exactly." replied Rainbow Dash.

"What about the float?" as Scootaloo continued to ask out of suspicion.

"I actually kicked it to get the whole thing started." said Applejack.

Rarity mentioned, "Megan thought that if something bad were to happen to Rainbow Dash, you would do anything
to avenge her even if that meant trying to fly."

Megan then added out of confession, "We all played a role here, and it was to help you fly in which you did."

Scootaloo shouted and complained, "The way I saw Rainbow Dash and heard about the runaway float made feel very worried about what happened, plus I couldn't understand why you wanted to take advantage of that."

Megan then claimed, "Worrying about that is what got you to forget about being afraid to fly and do it."

Scootaloo noted, "In a way, you might be right about that."

They all got the float ready to be taken the Summer Harvest Parade. The rest of the Mane 6 were there to greet them and were impressed to see Scootaloo finally flying along with Rainbow Dash. Even Cheerilee and the other fillies and colts from the Ponyville Schoolhouse were excited to see her flying including Diamond Tiarra and Silver Spoon, who were usually never found of either member of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

After coming back down to the ground she stated, "I owe this to you Megan especially because you kept believing that I can do it even when all looked lost."

After blushing, Megan said, "I don't think that I should take all the credit for this."

Rainbow Dash weighed in by saying, "You don't need to be modest about it, Megan. You were able to do what no other pegasus including myself was able to do to get Scootaloo to fly. Even Spitfire over at the Wonderbolts Academy couldn't get her to fly despite how she is so great in getting other pegasi to do so. On a side note, even I had my problems when I learned to fly for the first time."

Megan stated, "I though Scootaloo said that you were a natural when it came to flying."

Rainbow Dash mentioned, "That was nothing but a coverup to hide my embarrassment on that, plus I'm usually seen as the tough one out of the whole group."

Megan claimed, "There is no nothing wrong with admitted your flaws no matter how embarrassing they can be. I did remember when you and the rest of the Mane 6 mentioned when you did a song about how you all weren't flawless. Overall, others should like you just for being yourselves and not anyone else, otherwise they're not your friends to begin with."

Rainbow then noted, "You do have point about that Megan."

After that, the Summer Harvest Parade came to end, and Megan waved good-bye to everyone as she went to the portal and headed back home knowing that she once again was able to solve another problem a pony was having.
