Dear Rainbow Dash...

Dear Rainbow Dash...

Soarin' was in his bedroom, resting after his performance. Tonight was Saturday, which meant there was a LOT of ponies at the stadium. And Soarin' wasn't big on crowds.

He sat there, staring at the twinkling stars in the night sky, thinking about somepony he had had on his mind ever since last year's Best Young Flier Competition in Cloudsdale. A certain mare by the name of:

Rainbow Dash.

He'd admired her from that day...that day when she saved his life, although he was too shy to say "Thank you" because they had only just met, and he was awkwardly shy around other ponies he hadn't met before. His friend, Spitfire had always been more of the social one.

Another time, he had seen her at the Grand Galloping Gala. He had dropped his pie and she had caught it. He was eternally grateful to her. Then there was the time they had gotten to dance together, at the wedding of Shining Armor and Princess Cadence. He thanked her for saving his life, there. And it was, in his opinion, better than any other celebration, just because Dash was there with him.

As Soarin' sat there, thinking of Rainbow Dash, he had an idea. He walked over to his desk, sat down and wrote a letter to Rainbow. He wasn’t sure what he would say – but he knew the words would come to him. He held a pencil in his mouth and began to write:

“Dear Rainbow Dash,

Hey, it’s Soarin’.”

Soarin’ bit down harder on his pencil.

“I wanted to tell you, you’re a darn good flyer, you know? And I think your Sonic Rainboom is amazing.”

Soarin’ smiled whenever he thought about her Rainboom.

“Anyway, I wanted to say that you’d make a good Wonderbolt. Sadly, my decision doesn’t count. It’s all up to Captain Spitfire. But if it were mine, I’d hire you lickety-split!”

Soarin’ chuckled softly.

“Heck, I’d have hired you years ago if I’d known you were so talented. I also think you’re…”

The blue Pegasus sighed as he heard the door open.

“Hey, Soarin’!” Spitfire walked in, her mane in a frizz, obviously from performing so many tricks.

“Hi.” He responded, trying to hide the note, but it wasn’t easy to keep secrets from Spitfire…

“What’s that?” Spitfire took a few steps toward him and looked behind him.

Soarin’ considered the pros and cons but he decided to tell the truth and he blurted out, “It’s a letter to Rainbow Dash.”

Spitfire raised an eyebrow, “Why are you writing a letter to…her?” she said, peering at the piece of paper.

“J-Just…because.” Soarin’ smiled nervously.

Spitfire wrinkled her nose, “Ok…” she said awkwardly.

“SPITFIRE! AUTOGRAPH SIGNING!” Rapid Fire shouted.

Spitfire rolled her eyes, “Coming…” she groaned. “Be there within five minutes, ok?” she said to Soarin’, who looked a bit confused.

“Uh-huh.” He said.

Spitfire smiled and pranced out of the room, leaving Soarin’ to finish…or continue Dashie’s letter.

Soarin’ grinned and picked up the pencil again.

“I think you’re a very beautiful mare. You’ve always made me smile; you’re like…pie to me.”

Soarin’ smiled and continued,

“The best kind of pie, in fact. And the truth is...”

Soarin’ blushed feverishly, he’d never said this to anypony, or wrote it in a letter, for that matter.

“I sorta have a crush on you. And I’ve actually had it since the time when you…did your Rainboom and saved me…well, Spitfire and Misty, too. But, I like more than just your beauty and your Rainboom; I also like your personality. When we danced at Shining Armor and Cadence’s wedding, I really got to know you better. That spunky personality just made me happy. And maybe, someday you can get on the team and…just be here, in Canterlot. One day, I promise, one day soon.

Sincerely,
Soarin’”

Soarin’ blushed a little as he got an envelope. Carefully, he signed her address on it and smiled, what a pretty address:
“22 Cloud Highway, Cloudsdale.” Dash deserved to have something as beautiful as her for her own address…

Soarin’ licked the envelope so it would stay shut and put it by his nightstand, so he’d remember to send it in the morning.

“SOARIN’!!!” Misty called out, “GET YOUR FLANK DOWN HERE, ALREADY!”

“I’ll be right there!” Soarin’ took 0ne last quick glance at the letter and rushed down the stairs. He’d send the letter tomorrow.

--Rainbow Dash’s Place--

Rainbow was flying around and around her house, she really had nothing to do, she looked around cluelessly and something caught her eye.

“Mailbox… huh, I didn’t even check it today.” She calmly flew up to it and opened it. “Junk mail…junk mail…junk-” something caught her magenta eyes, a letter. No, it didn’t look special, just plain paper, but the return address…
“OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH!!!” she read the address over and over, but, yes, it was there.
“WONDERBOLT H.Q.!?” she flew inside quick as a whip and sat down in her couch, squealing to herself as she tore open the envelope.
She read the letter to herself, whispering it quietly so she could maintain her composure.
“Soarin’, I…” she smiled to herself. “Wow…” she carefully set the note down on her coffee table, trying to grasp what she had just read.
“I always liked him but I never knew he felt…” she paused to look over the letter again.
“…He felt the same about me…” Rainbow grinned.
“BEST. DAY. EVER!!!” she squealed as she threw the letter up in the air and caught it.
“But…seriously…” she peered at the letter again, “Could I see Soarin’ as my admirer?” she pondered,
“Heh. I don’t see why not…” she read the letter again, “Pie…” She giggled to herself, “The sweetest kind of pie.”
