Fluttershy flew with confidence, thinking back on the previous night. Derpy was such an innocent mare but...she was so close to where Twilight was found murdered, and she was acting funny, seeming nervous and even sweating, and somepony said they saw Derpy heading toward the forest. Then again, Derpy did say Twilight told her about the monster, and that'd make anypony nervous...
I hid the jars of blood in the cave as morning came. I nearly stepped out into the sun, but after a slight singe on my hoof, I remembered that I couldn't handle sunlight as a vampony, and turned into my bat form. I flew over to my cloud cottage in Cloudsdale.
I then took a deep nap. The nap felt so great, I had missed sleeping on a cloud recently, but after a while, I awoke to hearing some knocking at my door.
I rolled my eyes and said "Is it my boss? I know I haven't been to work for a while, but there wasn't much weather..."
I got up from the cloud couch and looked in the mirror...but saw that I had fangs. I began to panic a moment, but then suddenly felt like I could...make them disappear. I focused for a moment, and they did! I heard the knocking again, and smiled as I walked over to the door, then opened it. I saw Fluttershy, and a taller, orange stallion, with a cutiemark that looked like a cheese sandwich. I think I recognized him as...Pinkie's husband Cheese Sandwich? Oh no...
Cheese was crying, and wiping away tears from his eyes. I heard him mumble "I... I- mi- miss... them... I- w- wa.. wan- want... them back... Wh- Why me!" He couldn't take it anymore and went on the floor and started pounding his hooves. I cringed at seeing this, and asked "Are you okay? And how are you here? I thought only pegasi could stand on clouds."
Fluttershy replied with a vicarious tone "I told him what happened to his son, Little Cheese, and his wife, Pinkie Pie. Rarity was able to cast a cloudwalking spell on him that she found in one of Twilight's books."
Cheese Sandwich got up and took a deep breath, then said "The funeral is next week. I hope I can meet them again... in pony heaven." His face seemed a bit red, and his teeth started to grind against each other. He stomped his hooves and yelled, "ONCE I FOUND OUT WHO THE BUCK DID THIS I WILL-"
Fluttershy put a hoof to his mouth and patted him. "There there..."
I looked at him with a shocked, guilty, and scared expression. I had never seen anypony this angry before, even Rainbow Dash when she was upstaged by Mare Do Well, and it was starting to get through to me, even despite my vampiric mindset. Without thinking, I put a hoof on his shoulder to comfort him.
After over half a minute of gasping in between sobs, he took a deep breath, calmed down, and said "I got to go back to work, let me know when you find the killer." He walked away with a stern frown.
Fluttershy then blushed and said, "So... Derpy... I have a q-qu-question I want to ask you..."
I looked at her with a confused expression on my face. I nodded my head and waited for her to say what she wanted to say.
She then replied sheepishly "Why did you go into the Everfree last night? Before you went here?"
I started sweating up a storm... I had to come up with something or I might look more suspicious. I finally blurted out "Oh, there's a cave I found that's real fun to explore! I-it's actually why I was out to begin with last night...I didn't want to tell you because well, the more ponies that know, the more might come and ruin my fun exploring it, you know."
Fluttershy smiled and closed her eyes before she said "Okay...that...that makes sense. I'm sorry, I know all of this must really affect an innocent mare like you. You...know what happened to Twilight, right?"
I smiled and replied with "Thanks, I...what happened to her? She seemed like she had everything under control when I left..."
Fluttershy frowned and wiped away a tear that formed, then said "Oh...the monster got her, it must've been right after you saw her. I'll spare you the details, it was awful, but...Celestia thinks there may be hope of reviving her, because she's an alicorn. They aren't...they aren't sure..."
I had a genuine look of concern, since it was possible Twilight could identify me if they revived her...but that seemed to assure Fluttershy, who assumed that my concern was from Twilight being dead.
Fluttershy forced a smile and turned, then said "I uh...I'll be going. I should've known you had nothing to do with things, but...be careful with that cave, okay?"
I nodded as she departed from my home. I closed the door and let out a large sigh of relief, then went back to napping. I would just have to hope that they wouldn't succeed with Twilight...
