The Element of Greed

Bonding

“Twilight, OHMYGOSH, it's good to see you again, it's been months since we've seen you,” Pinkie Pie said as she gave Twilight Sparkle a hug that was choking her.

“Pinkie… I can't breathe….” Twilight tried to say something, at which point Pinkie released her.

"Ooops, sorry," Pinkie told her.

"And it's only been a week, Pinkie," Applejack told her.

"Even so it's been a long time, tell us how Twilight has been," Pinkie told her, to which the Mane 6 walked over to a long table where they sat down and began to have a conversation.

Several minutes later.

The girls were eating cupcakes while laughing at the stories they told each other.

"That's very funny my dear," Rarity replied.

“Yeah, something you only see when you rule Equestria,” Twilight added.

"I'm glad you're having a good time Twi, ruling used to stress you out, but you've changed," Fluttershy told her.

"It was hard at first to adjust to such a big change, but Spike and I can handle it easily now," Twilight replied.

"Must be easy when the royal advisor is the one who's been with you all your life, right Spike?" Rainbow Dash asked but received no answer.

"Huh?" Rainbow Dash looked over and saw an empty chair next to Twilight.

"My dear Spikey-Wikey is not here," Rarity worried.

The other girls were also confused, they thought that Spike was with Twilight when they entered Sugarcube Corner.

Twilight giggled and pointed to another table, "Don't worry, Spike's there."

At a small table were Spike, Rumble and Button Mash who were chatting and laughing, they were also eating cupcakes.

"Is it with Rumble and Button Mash?" Rainbow asked.

"Do you know them?" Twilight asked her.

"Only Rumble, and that's because of his brother, he's also a wonderbolt, but I've only seen Button when I drop Scootaloo off at school."

"But how did you know them?" Fluttershy asked.

"That's a funny story," Twilight replied with a giggle, "Spike crashed into them on the way over here."

“Oh my, I hope they didn't get hurt,” Fluttershy said.

"Don't worry about Fluttershy, they're fine," Twilight said as she continued.

At the other table, the boys were still talking.

“Wow, looks like you have a secure future as a wonderbolt,” Spike told Rumble.

“Hehe, yes, I would like to be one just like my brother,” Rumble said.

“That's a good goal to reach,” said Button Mash.

"What about you Button, do you have any goals in your life?" asked Rumble.

“Umm, no, not yet, I have a video game talent, but I don't think that's going to work for me,” Button Mash replied a bit dejectedly.

“Hey don't get discouraged, any talent, no matter how rare, is something to be proud of,” Spike reassured him, to which Button smiled.

“And you Spike, I imagine the bar is very high with you, I mean, you're the right hand of the princess,” Button said.

Spike remained thoughtful, he had never thought about what he wanted to do, he was happy helping Twilight to rule and he couldn't ask for anything else, "I guess to make peace between the realms."

Rumble and Button were surprised to hear that.

"I think it's something that only I can do, I'm not saying it out of arrogance, but I managed to make the good relationship between ponies and dragons possible."

The 2 were surprised.

Pinkie Pie arrived at that moment to offer them drinks and added something to what Spike said, "And not only that, Spike was a key player in the reforming of the changelings."

"Seriously?" Rumble asked in wonder.

"Actually, that was Starlight, it wasn't me Pinkie," Spike told her.

"But you were the first to open your scaly heart to Thorax, the current king of the changelings, and believe me, without you, the changelings would not have been able to take their new form."

Rumble and Button Mash couldn't believe it, Spike was friends with the Changeling King and the Dragon Lord, they could only say one thing, "WOW."

"Hehe, we can change the subject," Spike said as he drank his milkshake.

They wanted to ask him more questions, but they knew that Spike didn't seem comfortable so they agreed.

“What was it like growing up in Canterlot?” asked Button Mash.

"Yeah, I've seen that the ponies there are a bit sophisticated," Rumble added.

"Well, I guess it was okay, I always passed her by Twilight's side," Spike replied.

"Didn't you make any friends there?" Button asked.

"I wasn't interested in making friends back then, I was happy with my comic books while Twi was happy with his books, still I always consider Twi my best friend and sister."

Rumble felt a bit identified with Spike's situation, for a long time he was so focused on his training to be a wonderbolt, so he didn't have time to be with other colts his age.

Button also felt identified, he always thought that video games were his friends, and he felt that nothing else was worth it, but it was a mistake.

One thing all 3 had in common, is that they had loving families, with them, they thought they would never need friends.

“But enough of the drama, we're here to have fun,” Spike told them.

After looking at each other, they nodded, "YEAH."

"Hey Button, can you show me that thing you kept in your saddlebag?" Spike asked kindly.

Button took out a device that had a rectangular shape, "Oh, this?"

"That's a console right? I've heard of them but I've never gotten around to buying one,” Spike said.

"Yeah, it's my GameColt, this is where I play my games," Button said as an idea occurred to him, "You should try it Spike, it'll be easier for you since you have thumbs."

Button lent his GameColt to Spike, he began to play a video game and began to marvel, "Wow, this is awesome, I'll definitely get one of these when I get back."

“But it doesn't matter if you have fingers, you won't beat my score,” Button said proudly.

"Oh, it's a challenge, I like it," said Rumble.

"Hehe, don't underestimate the former Dragon Lord."

For Spike, that simple conversation became something memorable, he was always with the Mane 6 at the parties that Pinkie Pie organized, but he often felt out of place, he had no friends to talk to and have fun with, but that would change from today.

Twilight smiled seeing her little brother hanging out with other foals.

"I see the little guy already has friends," Rainbow Dash said.

"But I thought I already had them," Fluttershy said.

"Yeah, his O&O group with Discord and Big Mac and his friends from other realms, Thorax, Ember, and Gabby," Pinkie Pie added.

"They are good friends for him, but still, I felt that Spike needs to behave like a child, I don't want to take that away from him, friends his age is the best thing for him right now," Twi told them.

"Well, I'm happy for Spike, he already has friends his age," Applejack said happily.

"Of course dear, Spikey-Wikey has been through things a child shouldn't, it's a relief," Rarity added.

"When Princess Celestia sent me here, I never thought of meeting ponies like you, I'm grateful you accepted me, now it's Spike's turn."

The Mane 6 shared a group hug as Spike, Button, and Rumble bump his hooves, or in Spike's case, claws.
