//------------------------------// // Chapter 3: My eyes // Story: I am Twilight's twin sister, Midnight. // by Gogonic //------------------------------// "Sam. Do the dishes. Sam. Take out the trash. Sam. Clean the floor. Sam. Bring this glass of milk to your sister. SAM. SAM. SAM." This is weird. Why do I see myself in third person? Twilight vision didn't act this way. And this is abstract. Oh well, I keep looking then. I keep watching myself doing all the job around the house. Then, my past self fall down, spilling the milk, breaking the glass. A giant Barbara shouts at me. "You are worthless. I put a roof over your head, give you food and this is how you repay me." "But... but. Jess tripped me." A giggle I hear from the shadow. Barbara slaps my past. "Don't blame your sister. You should have been more careful." "Stop. Mother. I think she learned her lesson." Jess whispers in my ear. "This is for always tattletale on me. 'Sis'." She turns to my sister with a sweet tone. "It is very nice of you, dear. Caring for your sister like that." Then back to me. "You should feel lucky for having a sister like this. But you are always giving a bad example for her. Skipping classes. Swearing. Getting into trouble. And you always answer the same that you never did any of that. If you never did, so where did she get it from." I wish that I have hands to clench right now. "I should have never adopted you in the first place." My past looks at me. "Why won't mother love us anymore?" "It isn't your fault. Barbara didn't want a daughter. She wanted a free maid to take care of the house and her real daughter." I hug and reassure my past. I see Barbara turn into Velvet. "You are not my real daughter. You are just a clone created to serve her." I stare and point at fake Velvet. "No, I'm..." "...NOT" I wake up and look around. It was just a dream. "Midnight. Are you alright?" I turn to the voice. "I'm alright. Twilight. I was having a bad dream." I then notice something. I see color emit from her body. The color is yellow. I blink and rub my eyes with my hooves. "What wrong, Midnight? Is there something on my face?" Twilight tries to wipe her face. "No, it's nothing. I had something in my eyes. It's gone now. You can go back to sleep." "Ok, then" *Yawn* "Good night." zZzZzZ I lie down on my bed, cock my head toward Twilight. Her color changes into pink. Hmm, what does this mean? I then toss and turn. I can't sleep. What is happening to my sight? Is this because of my eyes? Why am I asking so many questions? Maybe, I should do something to forget about it. I get out of bed, stumble for a bit. Right, can't walk yet. I think for a moment. I could practice walking to give my mind of it. Yes, that sound like a plan. "Right hoof. Left hoof. Right hoof. Left hoof..." "Ok, I think I can walk now." I smile to myself. "Wakie, wakie. Twilight. Midnight." The door opens. Entering Velvet. "You are up early, Midnight." "I can't sleep. So I wake up early to practice walking." I answer, not looking directly at her. I know this is rude and she hasn't done anything to me yet, but I can't get the dream out of my head. "Oh, I can see that you are very persistence. But don't work too hard. Can you walk up Twilight because breakfast is ready." I simply nod. I nudge Twilight. "Wake up, sleepy head. Breakfast is ready." Twilight groans, opens her eyes, rubbing one of them. No color. I walk around, examine Twilight from every angle. Her color change into orange and yellow. "Midnight, What're you doing?" Twilight asks, raises an eyebrow. "Oh, it's nothing really. Just testing something." Now, it is pink. "Did you say test? I love test. What are you testing? Does it involve magic? Tell me. Tell me. I want to know? Can I help?" I stand there waiting for her to finish. I about to open my mouth when I hear a growl from my stomach. "I will tell you later. I think we should have breakfast first." Blue After brushing my teeth and conquering the stair, I sit next to Twilight, eat something call hay cake which look exactly like pancake. The taste isn't that different. Twilight and the dragon colors are pink. While the other is yellow. Maybe, I can see emotion. I should test this out. After breakfast, I go back to our share room and ask Twilight to bring the dragon. I tell Twilight about my eye's new ability. Twilight is now happily dressed in a lab coat. "OK, let do some test now. So... Uhm... Where do we start?" "I am thinking of using the dragon." I answer. Twilight color turns into yellow. Yellow is fear. "What do you mean using the dragon?" "Twilight, I mean that he's a baby and baby has mood shift very easily. So I was thinking of giving him a toy or something, then we took it away from him." Yellow still there with a mix of blue. So blue is sadness. "But that would be so mean. I don't want to make him sad." "If you won't help me, Twilight, I will do it myself." I take the smarty pant doll from the bed. Twilight grabs the door from my hand. Purple is anger. "I won't let you use smarty pant for this awful test." "I'm sorry, Twilight. But I have almost collected everything I need." Orange is surprise. Twilight cocks her head, confuse. "What do you mean?" "I have been watching your color change and memorize the color in my head. I'm very grateful for your intellect, Twilight. And there is a spider in your mane." "What? Get off me. Get off me. Get off me." White is disgust. "Ok, Twilight. You can stop now. It was a lie. There was nothing in your mane. I have all the basic emotion I need." Twilight stops panicking and leering at me. "Why would you do that?" "I have already answered you to finish the test." " Still. It wasn't very nice, Midnight." I shrug. "I will make up to you, Twilight. What do you want?" Twilight considers for a moment. "You have to do my chore for a month." "A month is too much. How about 2 weeks and I even give you my dessert." "Deal." After that, I spend my time learning magic with Twilight, but how much I try, I just can't do it. "Why is this so hard? I'm literally a copy of you, Twilight. And your special talent is magic." Twilight reassures me. "Don't be so hard on yourself. It took me 2 weeks to use the levitation spell. You just need practice, practice and more practice." "Midnight, there is a package for you." A voice comes from downstairs. "Coming" I walk down with Twilight, so she could help me bring it up to our room. When we are back to our room, I open the box of art supplies, and there is a letter. "Happy birthday, Midnight. From princess Celestia." "Whoa, I can't believe you get a present from princess Celestia." "Jealous." I smirk. "Jealous, who jealous. I know I'm not jealous. What are we talking about again?" I roll my eyes. "Twilight, you are a bad liar. I don't need my eyes to tell. You are jealous." "Ok, maybe. I'm a bit jealous. So... Do you want to draw something?" "Nah, I think I want to learn magic first. I want to draw with my horn, not with my mouth or hoof." "Ok then let's continue." At dinner, Velvet speaks up. "So, what did you all do today?" Twilight answers. "I help Midnight with her magic and help with a test." Shining raises an eyebrow. "What kind of test?" I swirl my spoon a bit. "Nothing much. Just testing how my eyes work by using the dragon, manipulating Twilight emotion." Twilight looks confused. "Wait... You manipulated me." I look at her. Oh, she didn't notice. "Well, think about it. Remember everything I did and remember how it made you felt. If that wasn't manipulated your emotion to suit my need, I don't know what is." I look at Shining. "Well, Shining, does this mean you trust me less or still the same kind of trust you have for me." "I still don't trust you." I shrug. "Ok, the same then. At least I have this new ability, so you don't need to hide your emotion from me. I know all of you don't trust me either, except for Twilight." Twilight looks back at her family. Her parents look the other way. "You don't trust her?" Velvet answers. "Well, sweetie, it's complicate." I buzz in. "It's not that complicate. All of you literally just knew me from yesterday. So it is very reasonable that you don't trust me and combine that with my appearance. I clearly understand why. So don't be too hard on yourself for Twilight’s sake because I don't mind at all. Maybe over time, you will open up and try to trust me." I turn to look at Shining. "Well, you should be more like your son there, he confronted me yesterday about if I have any ill intention toward Twilight. Of course, I said no. But I could respect a brother looking out for her sister well-being." Shining looks puzzling for the respect I gave him. Night Light and Velvet look at each other and back at me. "Well, yes, we don't fully trust you. But we would like to try to know you. And, yes, we are taken back of what you said. But like you said, maybe over time, we will trust you." I can see that their fear getting smaller, not by much. Wait, a new color. There are more than six? It's green. What could it be? Twilight nudges me. "What's up Midnight?" I turn to Twilight and see green, too. Why didn't I notice before. I look around, only notice Shining doesn't so this color. I look back to Twilight, smiling. "Twilight, I think I discover a new emotion that I can see." Twilight gasps. "I am so happy for you. What is it?" "Trust. I can see that you two are giving me a chance." I don't know what but I feel something inside of me, something I was longing for so long, I thought I didn't need it, but now. "Midnight, are you ok. Why are you crying?" My hoof slowly touch one of my eye, wiping away a tear. "No, no. It's nothing. You don't have to worry, Twilight." I turn back to her parents. I see yellow, but for some reason I sense their worry is for me. They care, they actually care. Why did I miss this so much. I lie on my bed looking at the ceiling. Well, that was a day. I didn't expect today would go like this. Twilight notices me. "Why aren't you sleeping *Yawn*" "I'm thinking of tomorrow. I want to try to get to know your family. Maybe, I can finally trust somepony again." "That's nice. *Yawn* Midnight." Thank Celestia for giving me another chance at life.
