//------------------------------// // Welcome to the Kalos Region // Story: Sunset Shimmer’s Journey Through Kalos // by Brian Sheil //------------------------------// On a plane flying in the sky, Sunset Shimmer tries to enjoy the ride. But, she can't. After graduating from Canterlot High School, there were a few people Sunset hasn't met in the audience getting angry. During a big party Pinkie Pie threw, one young teenager named Luster Dawn came in and confronted Sunset. The former bully was then thrown out of the party by her and two other girls. Sunset was very upset about this nightmare. Just then, she was comforted by Principal Celestia who told her that there's one way to prove those critics wrong. And, that's to be a Pokémon trainer. So now, she is heading to one of the 8 regions to start her journey. She learned that some of her friends are heading to where she's going to help her. Then, she heard the voice of a little boy. "Look, mommy." The boy said to his mother. "There's the Kalos Region!" Sunset looks out the window and sees what the boy is looking at. The Kalos region. This is where my new adventure begins. WELCOME TO THE KALOS REGION Sunset was then driven from the airport by a gentle blond haired woman wearing a red blazer over a white shirt, gray slacks, and black platform shoes. Her name is Rosie Conlan. And, she is happy to help the former bully. "So, Sunset Shimmer." The woman said. "Is this your first time in Kalos?" "It's my first time in any area involving Pokémon, Mrs. Conlan." Sunset replied. "Please. Call me Rosie. Since we're going to be knowing each other." Rosie and Sunset soon arrived at their destination: Vaniville Town. Soon, the car pulls up in a garage of a nice looking house. Later, after taking off her leather jacket and boots, Sunset lays down on a bed. "This bed feels pretty good." Sunset said to herself. "At least I can get some peace and quiet." After resting, she goes downstairs to say 'hello' to her host. "Did you enjoy your nap?" Rosie asked. "I guess so." Sunset answered. "I hope I can get over the embarrassment I suffered back at Canterlot City." "Oh yeah. I got a call from Principal Celestia about that. You and your friends were celebrating you guys graduating from high school. Then, some girls came by and threw you out of the party. I guess there are some who still look at you as a ruthless beast." "I guess." Sunset was soon tearing up. She was very upset about what happened to her. Rosie put her hand on Sunset’s shoulder. "Don't let that worry you, Sunset." Rosie assured. "That's why you're here. This new experience will prove those neighsayers wrong." This made Sunset feel a little better. Night came, and dressed in her known purple pajamas, Sunset lays on the bed, thinking Rosie is right. Soon, she fell asleep. Morning came, and Sunset woke up very refreshed. She then saw some clothes on a table near her bed. Later, she walks downstairs wearing a magenta flannel shirt, blue bib overalls, and red sneakers. "Good morning, Sunset." Rosie greeted. "Sleep well?" "In fact," Sunset replied. "I did." "Were you surprised with those clothes I gave you?" “Definitely. This look would make my farmer friend, Applejack, jealous." Sunset stepped outside the house and looked over Vaniville Town. It's a very quiet looking town. Just then, somebody approached her. It was a red skinned young man with marigold colored hair. He wore a teal jacket over a lime green shirt, blue jeans, and yellow sneakers. "Sunset Shimmer," The boy greeted, "welcome to Kalos." Pokémon Quiz Sunset Shimmer here. In a battle between Magneton and Gastrodon, which Pokémon would have the advantage? Sunset looks at the young man. And soon, she realized who it is. "Whoa! Sprout Cloverleaf! What are you doing here from Maretime Bay?" "My mother's idea." Sprout answered. "After studying about Pokémon for about a year, I was sent here to be an assistant to Professor Sycamore." "I heard of Professor Sycamore. He's supposed to be the Kalos Region's expert in studying Pokémon." "That's right. In fact, he heard of you from your old friend, Princess Celestia. She recommended that you have an experience as a Pokémon trainer." Sprout then takes out a box. "That's where this box comes in." Sprout opens the box, and shows Sunset what's inside. "Wow!" Sunset gasped. "Poké Balls!" "Correct." Sprout replied. "Each one contains a faithful Pokémon. Choose a Poké Ball. Go ahead. Take one. Any one you want." Sunset soon saw that each Poké Ball is labeled with a leaf, a fireball, and a water drop. She picked up the ball with the flame on it. Sunset threw it in the air, and it opened up. From the Poké Ball came a little yellow fox with red stuff in it's ears. "Aw." Sunset cooed. "It's so cute." "This is Fenniken: The Fox Pokémon." Sprout explained. "Pretty adorable for a fire type." As Sunset was cuddling Fenniken, Rosie came out and saw this touching scene. "I see you made a new friend." Rosie said. "Yes, I did." Sunset said. "Fenniken is so cute." "Now that you have a Pokémon," Sprout said, "it's time to take up the Pokémon Gym Challenge." This caused Sunset to raise an eyebrow. "Gym Challenge?" Sprout gave Sunset an explanation. "Like in many regions, the Kalos Region has eight locations called Pokémon Gyms. Each Gym is lead by a trainer who specializes in a certain type of Pokémon. Beat the gym leader, and you earn a badge. Get eight badges, and you'll qualify for the Pokémon League. That's where the best of the best gather in hopes to battle the reigning Kalos Region champion." "That might be a great experience for you, Sunset." Rosie said happily. "This will prove those doubters that they're wrong about you." Sunset thought about it for a moment. Soon, she came to a decision. "I'll do it!" Happy about Sunset's decision, Sprout gave her some more tools. "Here's a Pokédex and some extra Poké Balls for catching Pokémon." Sunset happily received her special items. "Thank you." Sprout then gave her some information. "Gym Challenge number 1 is at Santalune City. Good luck, Sunset." Spout then leaves town so that Sunset gets ready for her journey. An hour later, Sunset steps outside the house with a backpack on her person. "My husband, Gregory, is coming back from a business trip today." Rosie said. "He and I will be wishing you good luck." Sunset and Rosie hugged each other, knowing that this is where they'll part company. "Good bye, Rosie." Sunset said. "And, thank you." Sunset soon leaves the house. But, she'll keep her hosts up to date on her journey. She then looks at Vaniville Town before turning around and starting her journey. "Here I am, starting my own Pokémon journey." Sunset said to herself. "I hope my friends back at Canterlot City will be proud of me." Back at Canterlot City, Celestia and Luna were enjoying lunch at an outdoor cafe. "Here's to Sunset Shimmer." Celestia said as she and Luna raise their glasses. "May her journey in Kalos goes without a problem." Luna added. Little do they know, Luster Dawn was listening from behind a bush. She then made a harsh decision. "I'll show that She-Demon how untrusting she can be!" End of Chapter 1 Pokémon Quiz Answer Okay, everybody.
