//------------------------------// // A Siren's dancing Sun // Story: Dance of the Shimmering Siren // by Tsukasa the crystal mage //------------------------------// In a quiet and mostly empty restaurant in town Sunset sat by herself, her back pressed against a wall that hid her from anyone coming in, sobbing softly as tears ran down her eyes. "Damn jackass's!" Sunset cursed as she pounded the table with her fists as hot tears of anger, rage and sadness fell from Sunset's eyes to the rags of what once used to be a beautiful dress. "I tried my best to atone for my past, and still they treat me like f---ing trash!" Slamming her head to join her hands. Not hearing the bell over the door jingle as someone walked in. "Sunny?" A familiar voice asked filled with worry. "Are you okay? Did you get mugged or attacked?" Lifting up her head Sunset was surprised to see Sonata kneeling next to her with worry sketched on her face instead of her usual upbeat smile. Sonata was wearing a dark blue princess dress that went down to the ankle with a slit on the side and featured a happy waving mermaid in the center. "What are you doing her Sonata. Did you come to make fun of me like all the others?" Sunset sneared looking away angrily. "Shouldn't you be at the stupid dance or something?" "Nope." Sonata replied popping the p. She knew Sunset was being sarcastic towards her the same way Aria usually gets when angered but refused to leave the former equestrian alone. "Taco Teddy is having a buy two get one free sale when I overheard you crying." Scooting into the seat next to her Sonata draped her hand across Sunset's back pulling her close for a hug. "What's going on Sunny?" She asked. But Sunset merely turned her head away refusing to even look at the siren with her puffy red eyes. Pulling Sunset close in her arms Sonata began to hum a song from her childhood that her sisters used to sing for her whenever she was upset. Leaning on Sonata's shoulder as she listened to the song Sunset couldn't help close her eyes as tears once more started running down her cheeks as memories of when her older sister used to do this for her before she disappeared one day. Glancing down at her friend Sonata smiled gently grabbing some napkins as she helped Sunset dry her eyes. "You okay now Sunbunny?" "Yeah." Sunset quietly replied smiling a real smile for the night as she continued resting on Sonata's shoulder. *FLASHBACK Starts* "It all started yesterday as posters of the Valentine Dance were being put up." Sunset was placing her books away into her locker as her friends talked about the upcoming dance and about how it would be the biggest party of the year. "Oh! I'm so excited!" Pinkie yelled in sheer joy bouncing around with an audible squeak as she pulled both Sunset and Rainbow Dash into a tight bear hug that would make a grizzly green with envy. "I couldn't agree more darling." Rarity swooned looking at the passing students. "The music, the couples and most importantly the dresses!!! Ohhhh it'll be magnific!!!" "Oh it'll be great alright. So long as the Sunturd doesn't show up!" Short Sight mocked causing everyone to laugh. "That freaking jackass!" Sonata cursed harshly as her eyes narrowed. "I oughta hit him in the crotch with a sledgehammer!" She screamed loudly. For some unknown reason every male in the city shuddered as one before grabbing their family jewels protectively. Short Sight however stopped making out with his date as he started screaming in high soprano, breaking all the windows in the school as well as a few glasses, before running around screaming about the Grim Reaper as his pants gained two wet spots. One that was dark brown and the other in a long inverse v shape. " then I'll ask Aria how to make the most complicated knot possible made from his own tongue to hogtie him with!" Sonata continued getting more and more creative with her punishments. Before stopping when she noticed Sunset giggling. "Thanks for that Sona, but its not necessary. I've heard and been called worse before." Sunset said wrapping her arms around the blue siren as she gazed mournfully at the remains of her dress. *FLASHBACK RESUMES* "No what happened at the dance is what nearly broke me." The next night Sunset and Rarity were in front of the gym waiting for the others to arrive. "Thanks for helping me with my dress Rarity. It looks amazing." Sunset complimented as she twirled around in a red and yellow orientic princess dress that hugged her body. "Think nothing of it darling it's the least I can do for one of my bestest friends." Rarity said as she applied the final touch to the dress, which was a dual colored sun in the center of the dress. "There now you're ready to stun all those neanderthals who wouldn't know fashion from a wash rag." Soon though the others arrived and as one entered the gym to find a partner and dance the night away. Well everyone but Sunset who merely hung at the punch bowl when nature called. On her way to the bathrooms however Sunset was ambushed by Short Sight and his friends. "Lookie what we have here." Short Sight mocked as he and his two cronies boxed Sunset into a corner in the girls bathroom. "A walking turd without a brain." He snided as he pulled out a knife. "Please just let me go." Sunset pleaded praying that her friends or maybe the principals would come to her rescue. But her prayers went unanswered. "Aww. Did you hear that boys? The animal learned how to speak." Short Sight mocked making his friends laugh cruelly as he sliced apart Sunset's dress. "Come on let's teach her a lesson about showing her ugly face around here." Despite putting up a valient struggle Sunset was soon overwhelmed as her dress, that both she and Rarity worked so hard on was reduced to almost nothing in a matter of minutes. *FLASHBACK END* "Afterwards I didn't want to be around anymore so I ran away as everyone laughed when they saw me." Sunset finished her story crying at the humiliation she suffered. Feeling a pair of arms wrap around her Sunset turned to see Sonata trying to hold back tears of her own as she hugged Sunset with all her might. "Don't listen to those assholes Sunbunny!" Sonata whispered into Sunset's ear as she stroked her back. "I always thought you were the most beautiful girl I've ever met in my life." Lifting up Sunset's chin with a finger, Sonata kissed Sunset deeply pouring as much love and affection into the kiss as possible. "You know Sunbunny, it's still Valentine's Day." Sonata said releasing Sunset's mouth which hung limply, causing the siren to giggle. "So would you be my valentine date?" Sonata asked blushing hard enough to turn her cheeks purple. Sonata got her answer in the form of a spine tingling kiss. Pulling away after what felt like a lifetime but was actually 3 minutes Sunset smiled deeply. "Of course my beautiful siren." Sunset said as she and Sonata danced the night away unaware or uncaring that they had an audience of Sunset's friends and Sonata's sisters. All that mattered to them was each other in that small restaurant. After making sure that Sonata was fine, Aria headed back home. "I'm glad you found someone to make you happy after all these years. My shinning little sister, Sunny." Aria whispered so softly not even Adagio was sure that she heard anything as she joined Aria on their trip home.
