Skate as One

It had been snowing throughout most of the night. Rarity watched the white flakes falling just outside her large window from inside Carousel Boutique when she’d first gotten up at dawn. “Winter wear is advisable.” The white unicorn muttered to herself. She pulled out her four winter boots, a jacket, and her long thick purple scarf that was a close match to the color of her mane and tail. Dawning her winter gear, she happened to glance out the window again and a thought struck her. “Now how am I supposed to even open my front door?” A familiar green glow caught her eye. It appeared to be coming right through the snow. “What in Equestria?” Her front door opened revealing a slightly taller-looking Spike, with broader shoulders.

“Spikey?” Rarity asked, she was almost surprised to see him even out in this stuff. “Aren’t you even the least bit cold?”

Spike grinned at her. “Nope, cold doesn’t affect dragons.” He noticed her all bundled up. “Spike’s Pathway Service, at your service my lady?” He indicated with a bow.

“Too cute, Spikey. Is this what brought you by?”

“Well, I had to check up on a beautiful unicorn that I have known for years on end. And everyone else has gotten out, thanks to me, They’re all down on the lake skating.”

Rarity tilted her head and glanced down at his claws and noticed he had on a pair of ice skates just on his back feet. “Spikey, you can ice skate?”

“Well…when I use my dragon breath to melt the snow it turns into sheets of glass,” Spike admitted. “My magic dragon fire I guess.”

“I had no idea.” Rarity replied and went to dig out her ice skates she could simply lip on over her snowshoes.

“I made the pathways big enough for two. Encase you want to practice a little.” He watched while she attached the skates.

“Well, Spikey, I’m ready.”

Spike took one of her hooves and lead her out the door, she used her magic to close it behind them. He stayed by her side while she found her balance.

In no time she was skating side by side with Spike like she was a natural. He had hold of one over hooves and let her spin while being up on her back hooves. Rarity was surprised when she didn’t lose her balance. The pathway ahead did a few curves, bends, and split in the middle. One took each side, and both met joined in claw and hoof. With his dragon scales, he didn’t have to worry about the sharp blades of the skates.

Rarity found herself looking up at Spike with a wide smile on her face. “I dare say we make an amazing pare-”

“Like we’re dancing, something we’ve always done?”

Rarity blushed thinking the something he was.

“Ready for the lake and our friends?” Spike asked seeing as that was the direction they’d been headed.

Rarity nodded and the two of them made their way to where the lake was. A thought struck Spike when they got closer and looked down over a hill.

“Care to make an entrance with me?”

Rarity noticed the grin on his face. “You have something in mind?”

“Of course, and I know you’ll do fine.” He said taking hold of both of her foot hooves, once she was balanced, he wrapped his arms around her waist. “Hold onto me.”

Rarity put her hooves over his shoulder and felt him kick off with his legs. His wings opened up and the two of them glided through the air like the snow still falling around them.

Ponies were on the lake skating then Spike and Rarity made their appearance. Jaws dropped when they touched down Spike had spun through the air taking Rarity with him before landing. When he landed, he took hold of one of her hooves and let skate on her back hooves. Both of them tilted back into a gentle circle. They wove and moved around every pony like they were always one. Hooves and claws moved as one, in perfect rhythm. They ended with both of them spinning and Spike coming to rest while he picked up Rarity over his head and brought her down in his arms, she held up a hoof completing the pose with her chest moving up and down.

Twilight, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack had their jaws open the whole time. A roar of applause erupted from the others around them.

Spike and Rarity had been facing one another their forehead touching. They’d heard the roar of applause.

“You loved it didn’t you, Rarity?” Spike asked emphasizing a particular word.

“Had I have known…” Her heart was still hammering in her chest. She was still in shock at how they moved together. “It’s like we’re one.”

“We always have been,” Spike replied running a claw down her cheek.

“We have an audience you know.” Rarity said with a grin she couldn’t hide a blush on her cheeks.

“Everyone is already thinking the same thing Rarity.”

“That we’re good together?”

“Awe come on. Are you two going to kiss or what?”

Rarity and Spike both heard what Rainbow had just said and the crowd followed suit with the chanting of one word. Kiss.

“Shall we not disappoint our fans?” Spike asked.

“Oh, I don’t see a reason, not to Spikey.”

Both of them closed the gap and heard the crowd around them cheering, when the two of them parted, they started skating together again. The two of them came to a stop in front of the other five.

“Wow, you two are good.” Princess Twilight Sparkle said.

“Yeah, totally cool,” Rainbow added.

“How’d you two learn to skate like that?” Applejack asked.

“They’re just one,” Fluttershy said while feeling her face flush.

“You two should skate more often,” Pinky said jumping up and down on her skates.

“I think we should go again,” Spike said.

“I would agree, darling.” Rarity replied
