The Luscious Lake

Glistening looked around the lake as he sat at the edge of the water, taking in the peacefulness of the area.

Glistening Soaps had lived in the forest for a long while, and he loves it there. He wouldn't trade it for anything else. Though it does have its downsides. The major problem he has is that he didn't have any-pony to talk to at all, so when he got upset or angry, he couldn't vent properly. It also sucked that he couldn't talk to anyone about anything, even to just have a conversation.

To substitute for that, he would listen to music to help express how he felt. And while he does do that still, he's found another way to help him calm down.

While on a walk one day, he came across this big lake. Ever since then, he has fallen in love with it and comes back to it often. It's one of the only areas in the forest that he knows where there is a clearing of trees so the sun can shine down. He isn't the only creature that knows of it though. Every time he comes, he sees a couple of animals around the edge of the lake, seemingly enjoying the peace there is.

So here he was again, feeling upset once again, so he came back to the lake, took a seat right near the water, and took in the scenery. Birds could be heard chirping every now and again, and squirrels were running around, chasing each other for some reasoning Glistening did not know. He took a couple deep breaths to help calm down, and wiped away the tears running down his cheek.

The sunlight bounced off of the water, reflecting what was up above. The blue sky looked very lovely to him too, given that most of the forest had leaves as a roof. He looked up at the clouds as they moved through the sky. They looked really fluffy. The whole scene made Glistening smile a little. He was starting to feel better too.

He turned his attention back to the group of squirrels, who he now saw were fighting over an acorn. Glistening let out a chuckle as he watched them scuffle for the acorn. He then turned over to a blue jay that flew into the area. It flew onto a branch on a tree, and began tweeting and chirping. Glistening sat there, watching it as it sang it’s birdy song. Something he noticed about the blue jay was that it’s tail was all white, aside from a black dot near the end. He smiled more, wiping another tear that was slowly forming. He was feeling much better now.

He sat there for a while, the time passing on, and a bit into his peace session, the bird that was there on the branch flew over to the soap pony and took a seat next to him. It looked up at him and chirped.

“Hey, birdy.” He said, giving the bird that name on the spot. “How are you?” He asked that rhetorically of course, though it gave a few chirps back, as if responding to him. “You mind if I talk to you about how I feel?” The bird chirped a few more times again. Soaps took that as a sign go ahead.

“Thanks, birdy. You know, with being all alone here in the woods.. Or not entirely alone, but away from ponies or any one to talk to, it gets lonely here. Do you ever feel that way?” He asked the bird, acting like he was actually having a conversation. Obviously, all the bird would do was chirp back.

“You probably don’t, now that I think about it. You’ve got other birds to talk to. I wish I could talk with you too, or to any of the creatures here! Just one other creature. Just one pony or one being to be friends with, have fun times with, and enjoy their company.”

Birdy chirped some more.

Glistening sighed. “Maybe someday, when I can gather up the courage to go out and try to find out what’s out there.” Glistening slowly brought his hoof up to the bird’s head, and rubbed and pet it. “Thanks, birdy. I really needed that.” The bird gave a few more chirps back, and let the pony pet him. After Soaps removed his hoof from his head, the blue jay flew off.

“See you around!” Soaps said as he watched Birdy fly off, letting out a big smile. He felt way better now. Soaps stayed for a little longer, leaving once he felt entirely better.

Soaps returned that night to the lake, not because he felt upset again, but because he wanted to see the body of water under the night sky. While everything there was great during the day, it was even better at night. The stars and night sky made the water glisten and made it look absolutely lovely, and the crickets’ chirping was even better than the birds’ (no offense to them).

This time instead of staying on the edge of the lake, he planned to be in the water. Well, not actually in the water, but rather float around on it. He put his towel down on the ground, as well as his jacket, and got in the water. He swam into the middle of the lake, and switched onto his back and lied there.

He lied there and closed his eyes, and took in the sounds around him. The sounds of the crickets were candy to his ears. It was an amazing experience to him, and he felt blessed and happy to experience it. He could fall asleep like this, and he would have, if something hadn’t landed on his chest.

Glistening lifted his head, opened his eyes, and looked at what it was. Surprisingly to him, it was a blue jay. He looked at its tail, and saw the all white and black dot. It was the bird from before!

Soaps smiled and said, “Hey birdy! Glad to see you again!” Birdy tweeted, moving down to Glistening’s stomach, and turning back around to look at him. Soaps continued to lay on the water and do his best to keep himself afloat to not get his friend wet.

Friend? Maybe, Birdy was all he had to being with anyone or having anyone to talk to. The bird seemed to understand him when he was venting as well, or so Soaps thought. And Soaps hoped that he would see Birdy again. He wasn’t going to bring him back to his home, unless Birdy wanted to come. Either way, the pony and bird stayed there in the water, enjoying each other’s company and enjoying the peacefulness of the luscious lake.
