Luna's First fear

The only chapter

The sun was high above in the sky, shining brightly over the young world. Creatures ran, scurried or crawled around blissfully unaware of the order of things. Among them were two fillies: one pure white with a regal flowing mane of pink standing taller than the other by a considerable amount and the other a deep dusky violet with a mane of shadowed blue, both were adorned with wings and a horn. These two were more important to the world than their carefree giggles would show, they were Celestia and Luna. The alicorn Princesses of the sun and moon respectively. They were young, yes but they would grow into the rulers the land needed, already indicated by the cutie marks on their flanks: Celestia had a brilliant orange sun while Luna had a crescent moon surrounded by an inky black patch representing the night sky.

"'Tia! Come on catch me!" Luna giggled, as she watched her big sister try to grab her in her front hooves. The little alicorn filly ran through the meadow, ducking and dodging her beloved sisters attempts to grasp her.
"Lulu! This isn't a game! It's nap time!" Celestia says, fanning her wings in irritation. As much as she loved Luna, that child made her want to rip her feathers out. Luna stuck her tongue out and blew a raspberry at her, giggling like mad the whole time. Sighing, Celestia focused on her magic and grabbed her sister around the waist.
"No, I hate naps! They is stupid!" Luna squealed, pawing against the ground as she was dragged to her sister. "I don't wanna sweep! I'm not tired!" She tried valiantly to escape, even attempting magic even though she knew her skills were nowhere near her sisters.
"Oh well Lulu! You know naps are important to a growing filly," Celestias voice rang out with authority causing her sister to give up. "You can play more in a little bit okay?"
"Okay," Luna huffed in resignation. "Promise?" Her teal eyes were big and pleading. Celestia almost let her go right then and there seeing that look, but resisted.
"Yes I promise, now lets get you to bed." Celestia carried the small ball of energy that was her sister into the small cave they called home. "Now just take a nap Lulu, I will wake you in a few hours," Celesta whispered tucking her sister into their shared bed. Luna huffed, an adorable sound, but giggled when her sister kissed her on the forehead.
"'Tia, can you sing for me please?" Luna's voice was reserved, almost tired.
"Sure I can Lulu." Celestia inhaled deeply and began to sing with the voice that would make the angels weep.

"Hush now, quiet now,
It's time to lay your sleepy head,
Hush now, quiet now,
It's time to go to bed,
Hush now, quiet now,
It's time to lay your sleepy head......"

By the time Celestia finished singing the blue filly was sleeping peacefully, her tiny snores filled the cave like a gentle drumbeat. Smiling Celestia wrapped a wing around her sister and settled down.
Now is as good a time as any to catch a little sleep, She mused to herself.

Luna woke up under her sisters wing. Blinking blearily she looked at her sisters side with unfocused eyes. Yawning she rubbed her eyes with a hoof. "'Tia.......Can I go pway now?" Her sister didn't answer. Frowning she prodded the exposed joint of her sisters wing, effectively waking her.
"I'm up! I'm up okay? Just don't poke me anymore, you know I hate that," Celestias voice was thick with sleep. "Okay, what did you want Luna?" Her purple eyes focused on Luna, not before derping a bit.
"I said, can I go play now?" Luna said putting on her puppy dog eyes.
"Sure, j-just don't go too far," Celestia yawned.
Luna smiled, the kind of smile that made the world squeak. "Yay! You're the best big sis ever 'Tia!" Luna jumped up and hugged her sister around the leg, seeing as how that was the only part she could reach. Celestia simply smiled and nuzzled her little sister.
Releasing her leg, Luna bounded out of the cave to explore the meadow. She sat in complete bliss, inhaling the smells of the dirt and the plants, until a cricket sounded off somewhere to her right. Spinning she pounced toward the sound with her fore hooves extended, much like a cat jumping after a mouse. Landing Luna peeked into her hooves, expecting to see the bug but alas it was not there. She sat up bewildered looking for her catch.
"Aww, where you go Mr. Bug?" Her ears drooped in disappointment only to prick up again as the cricket sounded off this time in front of her. Gasping in delight Luna lowered her muzzle to the ground to search for the insect, only to yelp in shock when it jumped onto her snout. "Yay! Hi Mr. Bug! I'm Luna!"
Crossing her eyes Luna was able to see the bug on her face clearly, and that made her squeal in horror. "Eww! Getofgetoffgetoff!" She batted her nose with her hoves trying to dislodge the mini terror, after a moment of flailing she was successful. Shuddering a bit Luna proceeded to look around for something far less gross and creepy. It was a fruitless search, trying not to stray was incredibly hard, there was so much to see and do around the meadow.
Well, what 'Tia don't know won't hurt her.... The filly giggled and shot off in a random direction. Her happiness was endless, a vast sea of bubbles and flowers. She ran around and around, just happy to be about, when something billowy caught her eye. Gasping she ran up to the strange creature and watched it lazily flutter about. It was a vibrant collage of blues, greens, yellows and reds.
Luna plopped down and stared at the creature ensnared by its fluttering colors. "Oh.....What are you? I haven't seen you before!" Luna lifted a hoof and the bug fluttered down onto it. She giggled as its long legs tickled the soft underside of her hoof. She brought it to her face and examined its colors closely. Smiling she began to giggle as it walked onto her nose. Or at least she giggled until she saw its face. It had huge grotesque and bulbous multifaceted eyes, and a long and twisted tube hanging from it. The tube uncurled and began to touch her face.
"AHHHHHH!!!!!!" Luna screamed and smacked the thing off of her face and began to run back to the cave, screaming for Celestia the whole time. "'Tia! 'Tia! Help! Itsa MONSTER!!!!"
Back at the cave Celestia heard her sisters cries for help and bolted toward them. After a moment she was able to spot the blue filly running as fast as her little legs would carry her shouting the whole time."What's wrong Lulu?" Celestia asked as the tiny filly hid under her shivering. "What do you mean a monster?"
Luna broke down and started to cry softly. "I-I was p-playing and then I s-saw this colory thing. S-so I went and l-lookded at it. A-and it was just so scary 'Tia! No, here it comes!" Luna curled up into a ball and hid her face as the bug drifted closer and closer.
Chuckling a bit at her sisters reaction Celestia looked at the bug. "Aww, Lulu it's harmless!" Celestia put a hoof out and allowed the bug to land. "See, absolutely......ha..rm...les....s." Celestia slowly stopped talking as the bug fluttered onto her face and she was able to see what scare her darling Lulu so much. "Oh, goodness! Get off you icky nasty little bugger!" Celestia cried out and unconscious zapping it with magic, making it disappear with a poof of polychromatic smoke and the smell of lilacs. Snorting and shaking her head she began to comfort the little filly underneath her.

Skip forward 1000 years
Nightmare Moon sat upon the cold face of the moon looking down at the earth.
"We shall miss thee during our.....imp....ri...s..on.ment." Nightmare Moon slowly stopped talking as she witnessed her childhood foe float nonchalantly toward her. Her eyes widened to the size of dinner plates and her pupils shrunk to the size of a pinhead. "No...Tis impossible! Nonononono! NOOOOOOOOOO! 'TIA HELP!" Nightmare Moon turned and ran screaming like a little filly as the dreaded butterfly flew after her once more.
