Starlight In Snowfall Land

Part 1: The Frost Of The Past

Starlight Glimmer had recently been sent back in time to Canterlot many moons ago, and somehow saw her own double from the past…Snowfall Frost! Oh, and she saw Snowdash as well. Which can explain WHY she looked like one of Starlight’s best friends.

She was now shocked upon finding out what Snowfall’s plan was…and she had to find a way to stop her from casting it! But, how? She had remembered that story Twilight told her, and from what she saw…the story was indeed true. Starlight would have to face a wintery white future! Not if she ran into her double, that is!

“What am I going to do?” She asked in fear. “Is Snowfall going to get away with casting the spell? What's gonna happen to Equestria?!” She felt her stomach in a knot. “Ugh, this is making me sick all over again! I'll never get back to my time without knowing what happens to Snowfall, and my home!”

Beads of sweat ran down her face. “I’m gonna have to find a way to talk to her without wrecking the time continuum ...” a lightbulb went off, and she planted a devious grin on her face. “Which may not be such a bad thing...” Starlight finally had a plan, and she would carry it out, as soon as the time was right and her double was distracted.

Back in the house, Snowfall herself growled, upon seeing the ponies parade the town. She would have none of it, as she closed the curtains with rage. “I hate Hearth's Warming Eve!” She snarled. “All of Equestria would be better off if we just skipped the day altogether.” A smile then planted on her face, as she had an idea. She could cast a spell to erase it! Finally having the idea, she got a few potions out, and started singing a song.

Say Goodbye To The Holiday

Happy Hearth's Warming, they say in the street…
Happy Hearth's Warming, they think they're so sweet.
Words said so often that they lack any meaning…
Why should I join in when I could be intervening?

Everypony loves this cursed holiday,
But, would they be better off with it out of the way?
Well, okay!

As she sung her song, Snowfall walked outside, and begun taking decorations down from a few of the buildings, and started to even take a few gifts from the towns ponies.

Say goodbye to the holiday!
With my magic, I'll erase it!
The greatest gift that I give today,
And everypony will have to face it!

Starlight could only feel a little remorse, as she used her magic to return the gifts, as her double sang. She even patted a little colt on the head sweetly, as she went back to follow her devious duplicate, who went back inside her house.

No more little games for you to play
After you say goodbye to the holiday!

Snowfall herself, gathered up a few of the decorations, and threw them into her bubbling cauldron, as her spell was about to be prepared. She even tore a day page from her calendar to show how serious she really was about this whole thing!

Goodbye, Hearth's Warming, you had a good run!
Goodbye, Hearth's Warming, it's over, you're done!
Finally set free from your forced celebrations!
No need to reply to your trite invitations!
Calendar shorter by a single day…
Is my magic up to the test?
Time to see, I can't delay!

She went over to her table, and grabbed a few potions, and spilled them in the cauldron. And as she was enjoying her one moment of glory, smoky projections of Windigoes flew out, and swirled around her!

Say goodbye to the holiday!
Prepare the spell, no hesitation!
All memory shall fade away,
and see Equestria's new transformation!

No more shall anypony say
Happy Hearth's Warming...
...after today!

She let out a sinister laugh, as she embraced the fruits of her evil plan. She didn’t know that just behind her through the window, Starlight was watching her, giving the stink eye. She had a few strong words for that lookalike! And, not even a few unwanted spirits would barge in on her interference! Snowfall looked at her cauldron, and smiled.

After today...

The cauldron was all filled up, and Snowfall was ready to cast the spell. Nothing would interfere with her plans. “Once the spell is cast, all of Equestria will be better off, and they'll have me to thank for it!” She said deviously happily.

She was about to cast her spell that would erase Hearth's Warming Eve for all time, when a voice…not from the hearth, but from outside the window caught her attention. “Erase Hearthswarming? Are you sure?” It asked.

Snowfall was now frightened, as she heard that voice. “Huh?! Who's there?!” She cried out. Starlight seized this chance to quietly sneak in, through the window. The lookalike was nervous about where the voice came from, and it was that moment that she saw her double from the future…Starlight, herself looking just like her with her mane different, and without clothes!

Snowfall’s eyes widened like saucers, as did Starlight’s. She was just about to scream upon seeing her. “What?” She gasped. “You look just like me!” She said, as felt her duplicate’s mane and coat. “I didn't cast any duplicate spell on myself or anyone for that matter.” She said suspiciously. “Who are you, and what are you doing here?”

She took in a breath, and spoke. “I’m Starlight Glimmer.” She introduced herself. “…and I AM you…or rather, your descendant from the future.”

Snowfall was extremely shocked as she heard this, and tried to collect her bearings. ““Y-You’re my descendant?” she asked, surprised. “I have descendants in the future?!”

She nodded. “And, I know who you are…Snowfall Frost.” She said. This made Snowfall Jump out of her skin.

“How do you know my name?” She asked in disbelief.

“Oh, somepony read a story to me about you trying to cast Equestria in a winter wonderland!” Starlight giggled, as she went serious. “But, it won’t be much of a wonderland once you do cast it! And you're right, we do look alike!”

“I’ve never met a pony who looked like me before.” Snowfall said in surprise.

“And, I’ve never met one who was so stuck up!” Starlight said, flicking her horn. It made a "boioioing!" Sound.

"Ow!" Snowfall shouted, as she rubbed it.

Starlight snickered. "You know, if that didn't look like it hurt, I'd do it again.” She said. “The sound was hilarious."

"How dare you!" Her double sputtered in anger. “...coming into my house, and flicking my horn like that!”

"No, how dare you." Starlight said, pointing to her chest, before giggling. “You don't think a spell like that would get by without some powerful unicorn from the future noticing? You've got my attention, Snowfall, and I’ve got some pretty strong opinions on this spell of yours.”

“You do?” Snowfall asked.

“Mmm hmmm.” Starlight hummed. “And, I think it’s time get a move on. We got lots to see and barely any time to see it.” She stuck out her hoof. “Take my hoof.” She said.

“I'm not going anywhere, me.” Snowfall scoffed. “I've got a spell to cast, and I don't need a history lesson about Hearth's Warming Eve.”

But, Starlight just giggled. “Silly Snowfall.” She said to her. “We’re not going to learn about the holiday…We're going to learn about you.”

Snowfall was shocked and suspicious, as she said that. “I’m still not taking any pony’s hoof.” She said skeptically. However, her hoof was grabbed, and she saw her future double’s hoof grabbing it. “What the?!”

“You still are!” Starlight grinned at her, and she ignited her horn, and casted a ghosting spell on the two of them, as the time bubble opened up, and they were flung though it. Snowfall screamed, as she would be in for a long, rough ride!

The time bubble opened up, and the two Starlights landed right by a tree which was a seedling. They got up, and Starlight smiled, looking at the town in its former glory. Snowfall was confused at this, as she saw her double catch a snowflake on her tongue.

“I thought no one could see or hear us.” She asked. “And, where are we?”

Starlight smiled. “We’re in the town, where you were when you were a filly.” She explained.

Snowfall was flabbergasted at this. “You mean?” She sputtered out.

She nodded. “That’s right, Snowfall Frost!” She said, pointing to the town. “This is your life!” Snowfall, herself was in for a trip down memory lane, as Starlight dragged her around the town happily, marveling at the sights and sounds as she sung a song!

The Seeds Of The Past

[Starlight Glimmer]

As a young pony, life sure is something!
You go making choices large and small!
Always growin' like a seedling,
And playin' is like dreaming!
And before you know it, big and tall!

And every little bitty choice you make…
Sends you down a path to who you are today!
So let's take a little trip down memory lane…
And see just what the past has to say!

The two stopped, and saw a a unicorn filly hanging out with her friends, and she had the same look as Starlight/Snowfall did when they were kids. She smiled, and blushed. “Aw, look how cute you were.” Starlight said, ruffling up her double’s mane. “Looks like you're not too upset it's Hearth's Warming Eve either.” All Snowfall could do was just smiled weakly, as Starlight pulled her along as she jumped in tune to the song.

[Starlight Glimmer]

The seeds of the past…
They grow pretty fast!
Just look at who you were back then!
The seeds, as they grow…
Look what they can show!
Reveal the truth time and again!

Snowfall’s ears flopped, as she saw her younger self have some much fun. However, her double pulled her right to a schoolhouse, and they both went right through the door. “Whoa!” She gasped at Starlight. “Warn me next time you're gonna do that.”

“What did you expect? I cast a ghosting spell on us.” Starlight replied, and her double noticed that she did look transparent…as a ghost, which surprised her. She then saw Starlight go in one of the classrooms, and she followed her to see her younger self putting up decorations for Hearthswarming. She smiled to see herself, being all cheery-like.

Suddenly, as the younger Snowfall was about to hang another ornament up, she looked up to see a elder pony in a black shirt. She gasped as she saw her professor, Flintheart. “Just what do you think you're doing, Snowfall?” he asked her gruffly.

“Decorating the classroom for Hearth's Warming Eve, Professor Flintheart!” the young filly replied to him.

“You said you wanted to learn to be a powerful unicorn.” Flintheart said to her. “Did you not?”

“I do!” The filly piped up.

“And what is the way that one becomes a powerful unicorn?” The professor asked her.

The young Snowfall cleared her throat, and recited what she was taught. “Work hard, learn, and use your skills to better Equestria.” she said confidently. Starlight gasped, and nudged her double, who blushed and gave her the stink eye…again! That could really scare her.

“And how do these help you to learn magic?” Flintheart asked, pointing to the box of ornaments, the young filly had out.

“I want to be strong enough to stop windigos and help ponies!” The filly replied happily.

“That's just a story we tell little ponies.” Flintheart said harshly to her. “Real magic takes time to learn.” He used his magic to shatter the ornament, sending the shards back into the box, making the young Snowfall start to cry. Starlight gasped in horror as she saw this unfold.

“It's your choice.” He said finally to her. “Spend your time learning to become a powerful unicorn or play with your toys and make nothing of yourself.” He kicked the box to her, and left. The young filly stood there feeling helpless, like she had no idea what to do!

She bowed her head, and then her expression changed to seriousness as she kicked the box to the side, and put her books on her desk as she started to read every book she ever read. The other kids looked at her excitedly, but she just turned away from them, being the Anti-social filly she would be today.

Starlight’s expression was total shock, as she slunked down on the ground, feeling just as helpless as the young filly was earlier. “What? But…? How…? You let his influence get to you?!” She asked in complete shock.

“Yes.” Snowfall said sadly, bowing her head down.

“Well, why didn’t you stand up to him?!” Her double asked in shock, as Snowfall’s ears dropped, as she started to walk away.

[Starlight Glimmer]

There’s some distress, with words so careless…
You’re standing there, and don't know what to do!
Feeling helpless, you can't make it hurt less…
so, you go and change your point of view!

And in that moment, though you didn't know it…
Your defenses set up walls you built to last.
Leading to the pony you've become today!
And the spell you're about to cast…
It all comes from your past.

Snowfall looked at younger self, all serious now. No longer was she the cheerful filly she once knew. Now, she was one with a cold heart, and any thing fun she now thought was just a waste of time. Her face fell as she saw herself, and bowed her head down.

[Snowfall Frost]

The seeds of the past…
We grow up so fast.
Some hurts never go away.

[Starlight Glimmer]

The seeds, as they grow…
This we can't let go…
All tied to this one holiday.

She carefully took Snowfall’s arm. “I think it’s time we leave now.” She said solemnly, as her horn lit up, and the too went into an abyss of darkness as they faded away from the past. Now, Starlight knew why her double was so cross in the present.

However, it wasn’t over yet. There were still two time trips left. And sooner or later, Starlight…and Snowfall would meet a familiar friend…one who the present pony knew all too well!
