Today was the day Turquoise will challenge Morty for her next badge. Right now Turquoise was thinking about who to use after remembering what she was told about what pokemon Morty uses.
“Let's see,” Turquoise said before vocalizing her thoughts. “ Morty uses Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar. All three are Ghost and Poison-types so my best bet would be to use Dark-types so I will Use Hunkrow and Umbreon. But what should my third pokemon be? Turquoise then remembered that Poison was weak against ground and psychic type moves. But then remembered that these three can fly around so Ground-type moves would be ineffective which only left Psychic-types moves as an option meaning Turquoise would need Espeon for this one.
“Are you ready to go yet?” Fluttershy asked.
“I have just decided on my lineup,” Turquoise said.
“I think I know what you're going with but remember what we talked about,” Fluttershy said.
“I know but I have faith in my team,” Turquoise said before she and Fluttershy left for the gym. As soon as they got there, Morty was waiting for them inside.
“How did you girls enjoy the festival?” Morty asked.
“It was very fun and exciting,” Fluttershy said.
“Glad you liked it, Now are you ready to go Turquoise?” Morty asked.
“I been ready since this morning,” Turquoise said.
“Loved that enthusiasm,” Morty said. Suddenly a man wearing a blue shirt with blue hair walked to the ref’s spot.
“The battle between Morty the gym Leader and Turquoise the challenger will now begin, each trainer will use three pokemon and the battle is over when all three of one side pokemon are unable to battle. Furthermore, only the challenger may substitute pokemon,” The Ref said with both sides in agreement. “Now let the battle begin.
“Gastly Ha,” Morty said as he called out what looked like a black ball covered in purple gas with a face. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for info.
“Gastly, The Gas Pokemon, With its gas-like body, it can sneak into any place it desires. However, it can be blown away by wind,” The Pokedex said.
“Go Espeon,” Turquoise said as she called out her Espeon.
“I see someone has been doing their research,” Morty said knowing Turquoise’s plan already. “However we won’t lose that easily.
“Then you better bring it,” Turquoise said full of confidence.
“Gastly use Lick. Gastly’s tongue stuck out and extended before going for Espeon.
“Dodge and use Psybeam. Espeon dodged and used Psybeam which was heading for Gastly before it vanished.
“Nice try but my Gastly’s speed is almost unmatched. Now Gastly use Night Shade. Gastly unleashed dark energy which managed to hit Espeon and inflicted decent damage.
“Espeon use Psychic. Espeon unleashed Psychic but even it was not able to land.
“You're going to need to do better than that. Gastly use Confuse Ray. Gastly’s eyes glowed before unleashing a blinding light. Suddenly Turquoise had a plan.
“Espeon stay still. Espeon remained still while the light enveloped the field. As soon as the light faded Gastly was the one who was confused instead of Espeon.
“I see, Your Espeon has the Magic Bounce ability so direct status moves would just get reflected to me,” Morty said.
“You catch on quickly,” Turquoise said before continuing. “Espeon use Psybeam. Espeon unleashed her Psybeam and this time managed to nail Gastly and knock it out.
“Gastly is unable to battle, Espeon is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.
“Return Gastly,” Morty said before recalling Gastly. “You did well now rest. Morty wasted no time in calling out his next pokemon. “I chose you Haunter. A purple ghost with clawed hands appeared which prompted Turquoise to use her Pokedex again.
“Haunter, The Gas Pokemon and the evolved form of Gastly, Its tongue is made of gas. If licked, its victim starts shaking constantly until death eventually comes,” The Pokedex said.
“Espeon Return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Espeon. “I’m going to need you later so rest up. Turquoise knew who she wanted to use next. “Go Hunchkrow. Hunchkrow flew above the battlefield ready to go. “Hunchkrow use Night Shade. Hunchkrow unleashed her Night Shade only for Haunter to move faster than Gastly and dodged it.
“Haunter use Shadow Punch. Haunter had one of its clawed hands that made a fist unleashed a projection of a shadow fist that went flying towards Hunchkrow.
“Dodge it. Hunchkrow tried to dodge the Shadow Punch but failed and was sent crashing down to the ground.
“Nice try but Shadow Punch is a move that never misses and while your Hunchkrow is down there. Haunter use Confuse ray. Haunter unleashed Confuse ray on Hunchkrow which managed to work as indicated by Hunchkrow wobbling around. “Now use Hex. Haunter unleashed a dark power that covered Hunchkrow in a dark aura before inflicting a great amount of damage thanks to the confusion status.
“Hunchkrow use Assurance. Hunchkrow was unable to execute Turquoise’s command and instead banged her head on the ground which finished her off.
“Hunchkrow is unable to battle, Haunter is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his left flag at Morty.
“Return Hunchkrow,” Turquoise said before recalling Hunchkrow. “You did your best now rest. Turquoise took a moment to think before deciding who to use next. She then decided on her next choice. “Go Umbreon. Umbreon came out and looked ready to go.
“Let's see what you got,” Morty said.
“Gladly, Umbreon use Snarl. Umbreon unleashed a powerful scream that caused Haunter to cover its ears. “Now use shadow ball. Umbreon Unleashed Shadow ball and before Haunter could react in time it got nailed and was sent hurtling towards the ground. Despite a powerful hit landing Haunter was still in this.
“Not bad you managed to inflict some great damage but we won’t go down that easy. Haunter use Lick. haunter’s tongue extended and managed to take Umbreon by surprise before making contact and Paralyzing him. However, the paralysis also affected Haunter which took Morty by surprise.
“That was Umbreon’s ability Synchronize which inflicts the same status condition the user has onto the opponent,” Fluttershy said.
“Not bad but what do you plan to do now that both of our pokemon are paralyzed?” Morty asked.
“I’m going to win, Umbreon use Shadow Ball. Umbreon unleashed his Shadow ball which was heading towards Haunter.
“Dodge it Haunter. Haunter tried to move but the paralysis kicked in and caused it to get hit and faint.
“Haunter is unable to battle, Umbreon is the winner,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.
“Return haunter,” Morty said as he recalled Haunter. “You thought hard now rest. I must say I wasn't expecting Synchronize in this battle.
“Neither was I,” Turquoise said.
“Regardless the battle is still on and I'm sure you can guess what my next pokemon is going to be,” Morty said.
“I’m ready,” Turquoise said.
“I chose you Gengar,” Morty said as he called out his Gengar.
“Return Umbreon,” Turquoise said as she recalled Umbreon. She then pulled out Espeon’s Pokeball. “Go Espeon. Espeon came back out rested and ready to go. “Espeon use Psybeam. Espeon unleashed her Psybeam but Gengar managed to dodge it.
“My Gengar may not be as fast as Gastly or Haunter but he is more powerful than them, Gengar use Night Shade. Gengar unleashed his Nightshade while remaining intangible which took Espeon by surprise and damaged her. “Now use Shadow Punch. Gengar unleashed his shadow Punch which managed to hit and left Espeon with little health remaining.
“Espeon use Morning Sun. Espeon used her move to heal herself for one last attack. “Now use Psychic. Espeon unleashed her Psychic but missed.
“You put up a great fight but now it's time to finish you. Gengar use Curse. A spike appeared before being stabbed into Gengar’s forehead and started getting wedged in deeper which caused Espeon to suddenly feel pain.
“What did you do to my Espeon?” Turquoise asked.
“That’s the true power of Curse, in exchange for half of Gengar’s Energy he can put a curse on your Espeon that will keep damaging it the longer the battle goes on,” Morty explained as it already took effect.
“Espeon let's go down swinging, use Psybeam. Espeon unleashed her Psybeam with all he had and managed to nail Gengar before she fainted from the curse which stopped the beam.
“Espeon is unable to battle, Gengar is the winner,” The Ref said while pointing his left flag at Morty.
“Espeon return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Espeon. “You did great now rest. It all came down to Umbreon now and with his current condition, it was not going to be easy. “Go Umbreon. Umbreon managed to land on the battlefield but was still paralyzed from his battle with Haunter.
“Gengar use Nightshade. Gengar unleashed his Nightshade which was heading for Umbreon.
“Dodge it. Umbreon tried to move but the paralysis was making it hard to do so which resulted in Umbreon taking the hit.
“Nightshade again. Gengar unleashed another Nightshade which was heading for Umbreon. Umbreon wanted to dodge this one and managed to use all of his strength and willpower to break free from the paralysis and dodged.
“You did it you broke free,” Turquoise said joyfully.
“I must say that was impressive but this battle is not over yet, Gengar use Shadow Punch. Gengar unleashed his Shadow Punch which pushed Umbreon back but did not inflict much damage. Suddenly Umbreon felt a new power inside him and unleashed a bunch of black rings that took Gengar by surprise enough for it to dodge.
“That was Dark Pulse,” Fluttershy said.
“Impressive your Umbreon just learned a new move during the battle but that does not mean we will lose to you that easily. Gengar use Nightshade. Gengar unleashed his Nightshade which Turquoise was ready for this time.
“Umbreon use Dark Pulse. Umbreon unleashed his Dark pulse which collided with the Nightshade. Both moves pushed against each other until eventually Dark Pulse overpowered Nightshade and nail Gengar for enough damage to knock him out.
“Gengar is unable to battle, Umbreon is the winner which means victory goes to the challenger,” The ref said while pointing his right flag at Turquoise.
“We did it we won,” Turquoise said joyfully as she hugged Umbreon. After recalling his Gengar Morty approached Turquoise.
“That was a great battle and as proof of your victory here at the Ecruteak City Gym I present you with the Fog Badge,” Morty said before giving Turquoise an indigo-colored badge shaped like a specter that had two silver ovals that looked like eyes and a silver outline which she then placed in her badge case. “So any ideas where you girls are heading next?
“To the next gym or contest,” Turquoise said.
“I’m not into contests but as for the next gym might I suggest the Olivine City Gym,” Morty said.
“Where is Olivine City?” Fluttershy asked. Turquoise looked it up on her Pokegear and gave her an answer.
“It's about southwest of Ecruteak and a pretty good distance on foot but by the looks of it all worth it for the sandy beaches,” Turquoise said.
“Olivine is a port city and the gym leader there is a coordinator herself,” Morty said. “By the way how long until you girls set off?
“We leave tomorrow, Why?” Turquoise asked.
“I want you girls to meet me at the Tin Tower in a few hours there is something I need to confirm and explain to you,” Morty said.
“Where is the Tin Tower?” Turquoise asked.
“It's the big tower near the back of the city, the clean one not the rundown one,” Morty said. The girls returned to the Pokemon center so Turquoise could heal her team. After all her Pokemon were healed Fluttershy decided to whip up some pokemon food for them. After they finished eating the girls noticed it was almost time to meet Morty at the Tin Tower. They recalled all their pokemon and left for the Tin Tower.
Earlier inside the Tin Tower Morty was in the main lobby of the tower looking at a wooden tablet with a carving of ho-oh on it.
“Is it a coincidence or is this all fate?” Morty asked himself. The thought of Turquoise’s Rainbow Wing filled his mind since not too many trainers ever get one from the legendary bird itself. Before he could contemplate it some more Turquoise and Fluttershy arrived.
“So this is what the inside of tin Tower looks like,” Turquoise said before Morty noticed them.
“Glad you girls could make it,” Morty said.
“We did now can you tell us why you wanted us to come here?” Fluttershy asked.
“Of course,” Morty said before directing Turquoise’s attention to the wooden tablet. “Tell me Turquoise was this the pokemon you saw before you got that feather of yours? Turquoise noticed that the pokemon depicted looked exactly like what she saw.
“That looks exactly like what I have seen,” Turquoise said.
“Then there is no dought that you have a genuine Rainbow wing,” Morty said.
“What exactly does that mean?” Turquoise asked.
“It means you must have a pure heart,” Morty said before explaining the history regarding Ho-oh and how it only gave rainbow wings to trainers who possessed pure hearts.
“Does this mean something big is about to happen?” Fluttershy asked.
“Too soon to say but this is a sign that Ho-oh will be coming back soon,” Morty said. After the history lesson was finished Turquoise and Fluttershy returned to the Pokemon center for the night.
