Blue Barn Joy Ride

by Comrade Bagel Muffin

Smaller on the Outside

Sparkler hid in the tree in her backyard. She could hear her mom singing from the kitchen as she made salad muffins. Her mom was great but she would rather have almost anything else than a freshly cooked homemade dinner, though her mom's desert muffins were arguably the best in all of Equestria. She could never figure out why her cutie mark was one of bubbles and not muffins. However, her mothers questionable idea of what was and wasn't a good muffin was not the reason she was hiding in her back yard. The reason for that was her dad's blue barn, or rather where it was. It and her dad were gone. Oh the barn was there, but it she knew it wasn't. It was a fake. She knew it was, for starters she knew her dad was in there she'd saw him go into it not even four minutes ago, there were no back doors or windows, and she didn't see him come out, but when she checked he wasn't there. So, she waited on this branch, for the real barn to come back.
The barn flickered she rubbed her eyes, but nothing seemed to have changed until her dad came back out of the barn. She moved down the tree, and slowly moved around the barn, as soon as her dad went inside she slipped into the barn. "Okay let's figure out what makes this thing do what it does."
"Who're you talking to?" Amethyst jumped looking around.
"Dinky what are you doing in here you know dad doesn't like us here?"
"And yet you're here too. I was just following you."
"Right look okay this thing is really really weird in case you haven't noticed, and I really want to figure out what's going on with it so if you can be quiet and not tell mom and dad about it then you can come help me figure it out." She looked around. "Whatever that flick was it seems to have changed something."
"Yeah it's smaller outside." Dinky commented looking around.
"What?" Amethyst looked over at her sister. "Yeah I guess that's one way of saying it but what do you think caused it." Dinky shrugged. "Right well I'm sure that, that isn't the only thing that is weird about this place." She looked around before spotting something. "Look at that." She and her sister walked over to what looked like a small control console in the middle of the barn. "It looks like a control panel think this is how they make it do stuff?" She asked.
"I don't know if we should touch it." Dinky looked at it. "If we break it then dad's going to get really really mad at us."
"I'm not going to break it I'm just going to see what it does." Amethyst pulled one of the levers. "Nothi-" The ground underneath them shook hard. "-ing. Any chance that, that was just my imagination?" Dinky shook her head side to side. "Yeah I didn't think so. Go see if mom and dad noticed. I'm going to try and figure out what happened." Dinky ran off to the door then gasped hard she ran back.
"Somethings not right, Amethyst!"
"What's not right?"
"Look outside we shouldn't be here." Amethyst walked over to the door and poked her head out they were near the old Castle of the Two Sisters, but it wasn't in ruins and above it. "Nightmare Moon and Celestia, Dink pull the lever!"
"Which one?!"
"Any of them! Just get us out of here." She closed the door. Dinky grabbed one of the levers on the control panel and pulled down as hard as she could with her hooves. With a bit of protest it finally shifted down. The ground underneath them shook. "I-I think that worked." She poked her head out again. "Dinky come here you've got to see this." Amethyst waved her sister over to her. The blue barn was now disguised as a small blue tool shed behind a school but the strange thing was the creatures that were outside the school weren't ponies. They were unlike any creature that Dinky and Amethyst had seen before and given they lived in ponyville that was a very bold statement. They were all bipedal primate like creatures, they all looked like ponies with the different colors and hairs, they could ever see a version of Rainbow Dash playing a weird game involving kicking a ball up and down a grass field.
"This place is weird can we go back now Amethyst before any of them notice us?" Dinky asked.
"Yeah, let's let's try to get home." She walked over to the levers. "I think it was this one." She pushed one up, and again the building shook. They poked their heads out the door and this time they were home. Back in their backyard again. The tree that Amethyst had hidden in was still in the corner by the fence. The smell of muffins in the oven were coming out of the open window, and Dinky and Doctor Whooves were both giving them the 'you're both in a whole lot of trouble look' Amethyst and Dinky tried to give their best we're innocent smile but being caught red hoofed there was no denying what they'd been up to.
"Both of you go inside." Their dad pointed back to the house. They both went to the house their parents following close behind them. "Ditzy would you please close the windows?" Their mom closed the window and then their dad just smiled. "So when did you go, and where don't spare me the details."
"You mean your not mad at us?" They both asked in unison.
"Mad at you no, a bit disappointed that I didn't get to hear your reactions to your first time, but I guess I just waited to long, but if you're old enough to snoop you're old enough to come with your mom and me on our more, safer adventures. What do you say does that sound fun?" They both nodded their heads excitedly. "Perfect! We'll go to the Rings of Saturn right after dinner, oh and you're both grounded for a week."
