//------------------------------// // Rainfall // Story: A Rainfall Day // by Lulamoon-Crystal //------------------------------// It was a lovely day in Ponyville the sun was shining, birds were singing and ponies were outside minding their own business. Rarity was walking around, showing off her new hat. It was a white sun hat with a wide brim and round top, on the sides were two, lovely flowing peacock feathers that shimmered proudly on the hat. The hat was also had small green and blue jewels studded among it. Rarity got lots of lovely compliments from passersby, at some point she happily sat on a bench in the shade and watched ponies walk by, she thought of what styles to do for her next line of clothes, she felt a gentle breeze go through her mane, she smiled peacefully, the breeze wasn’t enough to damage her mane or hat. She started to relax a bit, she sat on her belly and yawned a bit as she put a hoof over her mouth. “Dear me,” She yawned, “Was I really up that late last night?” Rarity lowered her head, planning to only close her eyes for a few minutes to rest them. Starlight and Trixie were happily walking through Ponyville, Starlight had a neatly wrapped white box with pink ribbon. Trixie pouted slightly as they both walked towards the train station. “Starlight! Can’t we just go and return Sunburst’s vase tomorrow?” Complained Trixie. “No, I promised to take it to him as soon as I fixed it! Considering you’re the one who broke it before he could even get on the train with it to take it home with him, it should be you who’s fixing it! But I don’t think that’s a task you can be trusted with,” Starlight scolded. Trixie scoffed and rolled her eyes, “Well, he shouldn’t have put it in the way of the magic trick I was going to show him, jeez, it’s just a vase, I’m way more impressive than that old trash,” Starlight grumbled, “It costed him-“ Starlight sighed, “Well, nopony was hurt, we fixed it, and you agreed to come and make an apology, that’s what’s important,” Trixie chuckled, “Obviously, and I think you meant a great and powerful apology from the humble and penitent Trixie! Who may have made a small miscalculation in her act, but it wasn’t completely her fault, either,” She briefly gave her cape a flick as she walked. Starlight smiled and rolled her eyes, “Well, I’m sure he’ll accept your apology,” Trixie looked up, “Uh... Starlight?” “What is it, Trixie?” Starlight wondered, showing a bit of concern. Trixie stopped and pointed to the sky, “The pegasi have the wrong date, don’t they? I thought rain wasn’t scheduled until Wednesday...” Trixie said with confusion. “That’s correct...” Starlight responded as they both started walking again. Trixie looked at her, “Soooo... why are they doing it today? It was meant to be sunny,” There was silence before Starlight bluntly responded, “It is Wednesday...” “Oh... I knew that, obviously!” Trixie scoffed. As the two walked the sky started to be covered in dark clouds that the pegasi were pushing in place. The two finally arrived at the train station, they got on the platform before being approached by a station worker. He was a yellow earth pony with a blue mane and a train whistle as a cutie mark. “Excuse me, you don’t happen to be planning to catch a train today?” He asked. Trixie looked out towards the town, the cloud was dark with clouds, Trixie laughed, the rain won’t be soaking her today. She didn’t pay attention to the conversation between Starlight and the station walker. “Nice try, rain!” Trixie said teasingly as she poked her tongue out, “You can’t get me! Hah! I’ll be on the train before you start!” She then noticed Starlight move back the way they came with a disappointed expression. “Uh, Starlight? Where are you going?” Trixie asked with worry. Starlight sighed, “The train’s been cancelled today... the train needed repairs, something relating to rocks happened back in Appaloosa...” “Oh, we can wait a bit,” Trixie responded. Starlight looked at her, “They said that the repairs could take all day since the large boulder hit the front of the train, no one’s been hurt, but it’s a heavy boulder meaning it did a lot of damage and will take a while to get off the tracks,” “Oh...” Trixie responded, “Guess we are stuck here, no way I’m turning into the great and soaked Trixie,” She stood under the roof of the station while Starlight was out of it. “Trixie, it’s just rain,” Starlight explained, “I bet you can’t beat me to a race to Twilight’s castle!” “Of course-“ Trixie gasped as she noticed a bit of light rainfall, “After the rain? Not a huge fan of wearing wet clothes...” She said monotony. Starlight laughed, “Oh, you’re scared of the rain?” She playfully teased. “Am not!” Trixie shouted. Starlight giggled, “Guess you don’t want tea and peanut butter crackers back at the castle, more for me I guess! And besides, it’s just light rain, my mane is still dry, see?” Trixie gulped, surely if Starlight’s mane wasn’t getting very wet, her clothes wouldn’t either. “Alright, fine! Challenge accepted!” Starlight smiled, she quickly teleported the box to her room in the castle and nodded. She stood next to Trixie and they both got into starting positions. “Winner gets to have extra cookies!” Starlight challenged. Trixie happily added, “And has to buy the winner something they want,” She grinned. Starlight gave a bit of a nervous chuckle, “Nothing more than ten bits,” They both nodded, Starlight counted down. “Three, two, one... go!” The two mares started running, Starlight having the lead. Seconds went by, and the clouds went down with more power, they rained heavily on the town. Rain pattered violently on all exposed surfaces making an assortment of noises, loud, quiet, pleasant and unpleasant. Some ponies were lucky to be inside their house or where they work, some weren’t as lucky as they ran around looking for a shop or their house to run into and hide from the cold rain. “My mane!” Cried Rarity as she ran through the town, “And I just make this hat!” She whined. Rarity was rudely awakened when the heavier rain started, she couldn’t believe she had fallen asleep. While running, she aimed for her boutique which was quite a while away, she splashed up puddles that hit her as she ran, she was sure to take a long warm bath once she was inside all cosy and safe. Not too far away was a duo of unicorns, they also were running in the rain. Trixie and Starlight galloped alongside each other as they went through the rain. They both sped through the rain, they were soaked through! Starlight didn’t mind at all, she actually found it rather fine, but Trixie on the other hoof. “Starlight!” Shouted Trixie as she ran, “You said it was going to be light rain!” Both of the mare’s manes and tails were flat at that point. Flopping in the air. “Well Trix, it’s fun, right? I had to trick you a little to convince you,” Starlight replied proudly, “It’s just water, we’ll both dry off once we get inside it’s not that bad” Trixie growled, “Easy for you to say, as you’re not wearing anything!” She exclaimed. Her hat was all drooped down as she ran, she was clearly not finding it very fun or comfortable, and she was annoyed by Starlight tricking her. Starlight gave a bit of a chuckle in response to her friend’s exclamation. Trixie was too busy looking at Starlight annoyed as she ran, she wasn’t watching where she was going, so she didn’t see-. BAM! Both Rarity and Trixie crashed onto the floor as they had both just crashed into each other, Rarity was the first to get up. “I-I’m sorry, I was in a hurry, I didn’t see- Trixie!?” Rarity exclaimed in shock. “Ugh” Groaned Trixie as she got up, “Is it really a surprise at this point?”. All three of their manes were all flat, down and dripping wet, strands from the front part of their manes stuck to their faces, the hat Rarity was wearing fell into a mud puddle getting ruined. Rarity gasped when she spotted it with her eyes, it was drenched and covered in the icky mud. “How dare you!?” Rarity angrily looked at Trixie, “I just made that hat!” Rarity picked it up, sadly, it was stained and the feathers were soaked in mud. Trixie stepped forward, “How exactly is it the great and powerful Trixie’s fault!?” She pointed to the rain with her hoof, “I didn’t start this!” “But you did knock me over!” Shouted Rarity. “Guys...” Starlight stated, wanting them to stop fighting. “Maybe you should watch where you are going” Snarled Trixie. Rarity growled, “Says the same pony who ruined my mane by making it green that time!“. “Guys...” Starlight replied a bit sternly. “Bringing that up are we!?” Trixie shouted as she shivered from the coldness. “Guys!” Starlight shouted as she jumped between them, she put her hooves on each of their chests, “Guys!” Both unicorns shut their mouths and looked at what she had to say, “Neither of you are going to get dry if you just stand here and argue!” “She has a point” Rarity exclaimed, “You’re going to get a cold standing out here wearing that” She gestured to Trixie’s outfit that was droopy from the rain and pressing against her fur like everyone’s manes were. “Like I had a choice...” Trixie growled in response, “Starlight tricked me!” The three heard some familiar laughing. The three Cutiemark Crusaders weren’t lucky enough and were also stuck outside in the rain, but unlike the nearby mares, they were making the best out of the situation. They splashed in puddles and laughed as they made small splashes and big splashes. Sweetie Belle went and splashed into a big puddle next to her sister, splashing Rarity. “Sweetie Belle!” Scolded Rarity, “What are you doing out here in the rain?” “Well...” Sweetie squeaked, “Me, Scootaloo and Applebloom were going for a walk to... um... do something, but it started raining, and we got all soaked!” “And so instead of being all grumpy like Trixie is, we decided to have fun!” Scootaloo added. “I was tricked!” Trixie barked as she stood forward. “Besides, we were already wet, so we might as well enjoy it, right?” Applebloom asked. Both Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle nodded in agreement, Rarity rolled her eyes in annoyance. “You’re not going to ask me to join this silly thing, are you?” Rarity asked with slight disgust, “This is something... Applejack and Pinkie pie would do,” Scootaloo rolled her eyes, “And any pony who wanted to have fun, and didn’t let the rain stop them, like you are!” “Aww” Sweetie replied with disappointment, “But you’re already soaked, and it’s not like you’re going to get any more wet... you can fix your mane when we are done”. “No!” Replied Rarity. “Your sister has a point” Starlight told Rarity as she got ready to splash into a puddle, she took a few steps back and jumped into a large one splashing Rarity. “C’mon, Trixie, your clothes will dry after, you don’t need them for a show today? And your mane can just... well, dry and be brushed back to the way you like it...” Starlight invited. “I guess...” Trixie responded, “But the puddles are dirty,” “Exactly!” Rarity shouted in agreement. “Yeah, but you can just take a bath, Rarity, we splashed in puddles together before! Remember?” Sweetie Belle reminded, “I won’t ask for help with homework tomorrow, and I’ll do all my chores when asked” Begged Sweetie, “Just a few minutes of fun with your favourite sister?” She begged with puppy dog eyes. Rarity stared back and lost, she sighed, “Oh, you’re right... I guess a few minutes won’t hurt!” Rarity smiled, “Especially if I’m spending it with my little sister!” “Yay!” Sweetie Belle cheered as she bounced around. Trixie scoffed, “The great and powerful Trixie refuses to get her great and powerful clothes muddy!” Then she was splashed by a puddle Starlight jumped into, she giggled as she saw Trixie’s shocked expression,” “You can just do the laundry after! Besides, I’ll take puddles over being in a manticore’s mouth any day,” Starlight sighed, “But if you really don’t want to I can’t force you,” Starlight jumped into a puddle next to Rarity, she assumed Trixie went running to the castle. It was a shame really, she was expecting Trixie to try and prove she can do the best splashes into puddles. But she didn’t let Trixie’s departure let her down, she splashed in the puddles happily, they all laughed. Scootaloo raced through a few some puddles with her scooter, soaking some passersby with umbrellas. Starlight and the CMC laughed, but Rarity quickly apologised, but they weren’t upset at all, they laughed a bit and went back to their days. “Incoming!” Called Trixie as she splashed Starlight, Rarity and the CMC when she jumped into a puddle next to them, surprising them, “Trixie does great and powerful splashes!”, Both her and Starlight giggled in response. “So you did decide to join in!” Starlight giggled. “Well, I’m already completely soaked and...” Trixie smiled, “Eh, I’ve been dirtier, I’ll be fine,” Trixie smiled, “Now time to have some fun!” Rarity shrieked in shock when both Starlight and Trixie splashed into a puddle next to her, but then all six ponies laughed. They splashed into puddles splashing each other and laughing, they also laughed when Trixie ended up belly flopping into a large puddle, being underwater for a few seconds, but she was fine. Each pony was soaked through, but they didn’t care, they were having so much fun! Sweetie Belle was so happy to spend time with her amazing sister, Rarity. Scootaloo and Applebloom had so much fun splashing the mares when they least expected it. They splashed and played in the rain until it stopped, together they watched the clouds move away and the sun to be revealed. A rainbow brightly appeared in the sky, going across. Water dropped from their bodies as they peacefully looked at the sky together. It was peaceful, birds chipped happily. Rarity shook some water from her fur, accidentally spraying everpony, “Well.. My boutique is not far away, so I’ll invite you all over for a warm cup of tea, I insist” “Sure,” Starlight replied as she shook some water from herself, Spraying Trixie on accident. “Yay!” Cheered the three fillies, they gave each other a hoof-bump, “We taught three mares how to have fun in the rain”. Trixie sat there shivering, she was holding her cape wrapped around her hoping for some warmth, “Y-yes please” She shivered slightly. Starlight giggled a bit at her friend’s reaction. Inside the kitchen in Rarity’s boutique, the six ponies were sitting at the table with a warm drink and biscuits, the fillies had hot chocolate and the mares had tea. Trixie’s outfit was being hung over an unused chair, so they would dry, she wasn’t very impressed, but she would not deny that she had a bit of fun. ”So... when’s the next rainy day?“ Trixie asked before taking a sip of her tea, “I’ll be bringing a poncho next time, lot more waterproof than my cape,” Trixie smiled, and we won’t only be splashing in puddles! We’ll be doing so many things!” ”Hehe...” Starlight chuckled, “I'll have to check next week’s weather reports when they come,” ”Darn...” Trixie responded, “Hey! We never finished that race!” ”Oh yeah! Wanna finish it after?” Starlight asked. ”of course! You’re on!” Trixie challenged. Both mares laughed happily.
