//------------------------------// // Letters... // Story: The luck in our stars. // by KingSombraTheTyrantRuler //------------------------------// The remainder of the evening went by slowly. I was still on my balcony, and still thinking about The Night Princess. I decided to wait until midnight, in case Luna came. The hours ticked by, and eventually I had to get my sleep. When I woke up, I did the same thing that I did every morning. I got out of bed, did my morning things, looked in the mirror and brushed my mane, put my armor, cape and crown on, and then I teleported into my throne room. I sat on my throne and listened to all the problems in the Empire, while Lightning Hooves stood next to me, giving suggestions. The last problem was that some ponies were refusing to mine. So, I told Lightning to bring them here, and when he did, I scared them into doing their work. They ran out of the throne room and started mining. One month later... When a whole month had passed without Luna coming, I wondered what princesses thought soon meant. Did they think it meant after a year? Maybe I should've said, 'I hope to see you next week'? Wait. Why did I want to see her so badly? I couldn't love. I was the King Of Monsters. I would never be able to love anypony, and nopony would ever love me. Maybe I was just concerned about her? That sounded strange in my head. I had never cared for anypony, before and after I took over. When I was a colt, nopony liked me. And now that I was a stallion, I didn't care for anypony, because my foalhood was filled with hatred. But what did I feel for her? I wouldn't believe it was love, or care. I'll just say that I like her. The sound of somepony landing pulled me from my thoughts. I turned and saw the mare I liked. "Hello, King Sombra." "Princess Luna! It's been a long time." "I would've visited sooner, but I decided one time every month would be fine, or Celestia might start suspecting me." "I understand." "How have things been for you as of late?" "It's been boring, as usual. I have to spend five hours of my day in my throne room, listening to everyponies problems. I hope things have been better on your end." "Actually, it's been worse." "And would you care to tell me why?" "As you already know, my sister and I rule Equestria together. But sometimes I feel like only she rules it. Everypony only asks her for help, and when I make suggestions, Celestia ignores me. In the night ponies sleep, and in the day they play and work. Nopony appreciates me or my nights. They don't even think of me as a princess. " "And that is where you are wrong, dear princess." "And how is that?" "You said nopony appreciates you, or your nights, but I do. To me, the nights are the best time, when the stars are out and the moon shines. To me, you will always be The Beautiful Princess Of The Night." "Nopony's ever said that before." "It doesn't matter what they say, dear princess. You are much more beautiful than any mares that I've ever seen." "Y-you think I'm beautiful?" "I assure you, I do." What happened next was totally unexpected. Luna hugged me. She actually hugged me. Did that mean she felt the same feelings that I did for her? She let go of me and said, "I know how we can talk to each other easily." "You do?" "Yes! We could write letters to each other!" "Like pen-pals?" Luna nodded. I exclaimed, "That's a great idea! That way, we could contact each other without your sister suspecting a thing!" Luna had left half an hour ago, saying that she had to get back to her castle before sunrise. I waved and after she flew away, I went into my bed and caught up with sleep. For the first time in a month, my heart felt peace. True happiness. A week later... I woke up and ran out of bed. Then, I quickly did the things that I did every morning, and teleported to my throne room. Then, I started court. I listened to everyponies problems, gave the solutions, and Lightning gave suggestions. I couldn't wait for the evening, when I would start writing letters to Luna. It had been long since sunset, and here I was, on my balcony looking at the stars with a quill and parchment. I started writing, "Dear Princess Of The Night, the beauty of your night skies never fail to amaze me. I always wonder how one could create such a beautiful thing. When I look at the sky, I think of you. How your mane looks as if it has stars in it. And how you are so beautiful. Things have been going well for me, I hope the same can be said for you. Don't hesitate to tell me about any worries you have, or problems you face. Looking forward to your reply, King Sombra." I rolled the parchment up after letting the ink dry, I put a seal on it, and then used a spell to send my letter. Then I waited for her reply. Out of thin air, popped a letter. It had Luna's seal on it. I took the seal off, unrolled it, and read, "My dear King Of Monsters, you will never fail to flatter me with your kind words. I am happy to know that things are going well for you. I've been spending more time alone, since we last met so I haven't been having any problems. I doubt anypony will notice if I don't do night court. (It's always empty except for me and my batponies.) I've been spending more time in the dream world than the real world, trying to find out how to give Celestia nightmares. Do you know any nightmare spells? If you do, then I'll be happy to know them too. Royally yours, Princess Luna." I folded Luna's letter and then I walked into my room. I put her letter under my pillow, and then went back to the balcony. I looked at the sky one more time before, and then decided to call it a night.
