Back at the tea party, Megan interrupted the flashback after what she’d just heard and asked, "What exactly did Sombra have against me?Why did he refer to me as a backstabber and traitor? More importantly, why did he assault anyone who still believed that I was Ponyland's savior?"
Celestia responded saying, "He didn't really have anything against you per se. He was using your absence from the battle not only to be his scapegoat, but also to help him win over vindication so that other ponies, especially the unicorns, would look to him in the aftermath for leadership."
Twilight weighed in also saying, "I'm not surprised he would do something like that just to get his way."
Megan sighed. "I still don't see why you just didn't want to stay with Posey when Grogar showed up."
Luna explained, "It wasn't my idea to run away. It was Celestia’s. Even though we found Posey to be a good mother to us, Celestia just felt that we wouldn't be safe with her, which is why she wanted to me to come with her to look for you."
"Even if Tirac had came back, I doubt he would’ve wanted either of you. Both of you were too small and he wasn't looking for foals. But rather, adult ponies to pull his Midnight Chariot. So he would have locked you up just like the ones I remembered seeing when I was there." Megan explained.
"Huh... I never thought about that." Celestia said.
“At least now I know where you got the hidden book!” Twilight remarked.
Luna responded deadpan, "Yes, now you know where the book came from. We would like to get back to our story."
The flashback resumed.
The two were growing up. However, they felt they could no longer stand the tyranny of Sombra, so they held secret meetings with the other unicorns to help stand up to him.
At one of the meetings Celestia mentioned, "It's about time we started standing up to Sombra. We can't keep living under such fear! I can't stand seeing other unicorns get bruised and nearly killed trying to resist him. There are many of us and only one of him. If we all stand up to him at once, we can actually stop this reign of terror."
One of the other unicorns, however, was still concerned. "As long as he can levitate heavy objects, we're no match for him. If he wanted to, he could just lift a huge bolder and drop it on all of us at once and then laugh at the easy win! Unless we can levitate objects as big and heavy as the ones he can, he will always have the upper hand on us!"
"I don't see why any of us can't do that as well. We too are unicorns, so we should have the same abilities, even if it means we'll have to practice a lot of times to do so. Why should only Sombra have that ability and not us?" Celestia remarked.
Later that day, Celestia went towards a boulder and tried to levitate as hard as she could with her horn, but then started to notice something else moving instead of that bolder.
What exactly did I just move?
Celestia then looked up at the sky and realized, The sun doesn't seem to be at the right place especially for this time of day! Hmm, maybe it's just me seeing this...
As the unicorn wizards noticed the displacement of the sun they approached Celestia and said, "We believe that it's you who is destined to make the sun both rise and set."
After hearing this, Celestia used her horn to lower the sun for the day as she lifted up for a moment and glowed noticing something appearing on her rear.
"Did I just earn the cutie mark of the sun?" asked Celestia.
One of the unicorn wizards answered, "Now that it is your destiny to control the sun, its cutie mark is now yours."
The said unicorn then bowed down with the rest of them towards facing her as they found the one who was destined for the sun.
However, Sombra wasn't too happy to hear about this and approached Celestia and snarled, "You may have control of the sun, but I can still control the moon once I get the chance to do so."
Meanwhile, the other unicorns, including Luna, were very happy to see her earn that cutie mark.
Still feeling excited her sister's accomplishment, Luna couldn't sleep that night and decided that since she was wide awake, she should try her luck in trying levitate a boulder to help stand up to Sombra. But, she also found out that she was moving something else when using her ability to the fullest extent.
Luna looked around the place and thought, What just happened?
As she looked up to the sky, she then thought, Is it just me, or is did the moon just move a little?
Another unicorn wizard approached her and said, "You must be one the who is destined to make the moon both rise and set."
Luna then agreed to use her horn to lower the moon for the night as Celestia and the other unicorn wizards saw her float up and glow with something appearing on her rear.
"Is this the cutie mark of the moon?" asked Luna.
One of the unicorn wizards said to Luna, "Now that's it's your destiny to control the moon, its cutie mark is now yours."
Once again, the unicorn wizards bowed down and faced Luna as they found the one who was destined to control the moon.
As Celestia raised up the sun, she and the rest of the unicorns including her came over to Luna to thank her for earning the cutie mark of the moon. The unicorn wizards were pleased to finally see that they were no longer needed to control either the sun or the moon.
Unfortunately, this didn't go well with Sombra as he shouted angrily, "Having control of either the sun or moon was supposed to be for me, not any of you! How could two unicorns that I have only just seen not that long ago get this ability instead of me?!"
Celestia then said, "Perhaps, destiny has a way of finding itself."
Twilight interrupted the flashback and said, "So this is how you two both earned your cutie marks."
"Not only that, we even humiliated Sombra for the first time in doing so." Celestia laughed.
As the flashback resumed, the two sisters did their duties with the sun and moon. However, they felt as if there was more to them than just earning those rare cutie marks.
"Although earning these rare cutie marks are good, do you ever think we could get the other ponies to live with us in unity? Just like they did before the fall from Grogar and his army?" asked Luna.
"If Megan Williams was known for having all three groups working with her when she was here, I don't see why any of us can't do the same thing" said Celestia in response.
As the two went to sleep after their duties with the sun and moon, a voice in their head said, "For your strong belief in unity among the pony tribes, you will be able to carry the traits of all groups."
They both woke up ready to perform their duties and decided to get some water from the lake, only to notice something as they saw their reflections.
"Is it just me sister, or do we actually have wings?" said Celestia.
"Maybe we're still dreaming."
"We can't still be asleep. These wings feel very real."
They pondered this for awhile
"What exactly are we?" said Luna.
"I have no idea what we are." Responded Celestia.
One of the unicorn wizards came up to them and said after looking at them, "You two have just became the legendary ponies known as the alicorn."
"Exactly what is an alicorn?" Celestia asked
"An alicorn is a pony who carries the traits of all three tribes: The unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies." explained the unicorn wizard.
Luna then asked, "Could believing in unity among the tribes make us become this?"
"That is a possibility." The unicorn wizard responded.
"Now that I think about it, I do remember hearing a voice in my head saying the our strong belief in unity gave us." Celestia noted.
"Me too!" Agreed Luna.
Celestia then asked the unicorn wizard, "Can we actually fly with these wings or are they just for show?"
The unicorn wizard then said, "I believe that you can fly, but none of us unicorns her can teach either of you that. Luckily, I do know a pegasus tribe that isn't too far from here. I suggest you go to them and convince them to teach you how to fly. Also, I know of an earth pony tribe that will help you with your strength"
Megan interrupted the flashback and said, "So this is how you both became the alicorns your are now! And you achieved it just be believing in that you can unite the tribes?"
Luna's replied, "Yes. Just like Twilight and Cadence, we also had to earn our way into becoming alicorns."
As the flashback resumed, the two headed off into a nearby valley and saw the pegasi as they flapped out their wings to show that they were among them.
At first, the pegasi were a bit confused when they saw this, but then came to an understanding after hearing what they had to say.
Celestia spoke first. "Me and my sister mean you no harm! We are now the legendary alicorns, and we would like you to teach us how to fly."
One of the pegasi came up to them and said, "It would be an honor to do so."
The two started getting flying lessons. At first, the pegasi were holding them up to get them in the air and then dropping them to help them flap their wings and fly. They also told them to move their hooves to help them control where they wanted to go when flying.
However, their biggest task was to jump down a cliff and fly back up, which did bring some fear to them.
"Um, what if we panic and don't make it?" Asked Celestia concerned.
"You will fall to your doom.” A fellow pegasus said. Both sisters looked at each other and gulped. “Ah, but don't worry! We will swoop down and save you should that happen." The pegasus finished.
They were instructed that when they were about halfway down to spread out their wings to allow for the wind to collect as they could fly back up. Celestia was first at this while Luna followed after her. Some of the pegasi were about to get ready to save them, but then saw them both fly back up after using their instincts to do so. The two were very happy to still be alive after doing all of that. What they just went through made them feel breathless for a time.
They waved good-bye and headed over to the earth ponies to help with their strength.
Just like the pegasi, the earth ponies were confused about what they were. But then they understood why they were there after hearing that they were alicorns.
A fellow earth pony said to them, "We will teach how to move heavy objects both physically and , in your cases, mentally."
Celestia asked, "How will moving heavy objects physically help us move them mentally?"
The earth pony replied with, "Once you have the idea of how to actually move heavy objects, you should be able to levitate them with your horns without a problem."
Although the work felt rigorous at times, they eventually got the hang of it. They were now able to levitate anything as heavy as Sombra could. They waved good-bye as they flew back to their unicorn tribe.
The fellow unicorns delighted to see them again. They were even more impressed to see them as alicrons except for Sombra, who said, "I can't understand how either of you became such legendary ponies."
Celestia responded with, "Maybe if you believed in true unity like me and my sister did, you could also become an alicorn just like us."
Sombra then huffed, "I'm sure at one point I can became an alicorn just like you."
"One doesn't just get to become an alicorn, they must earn it." Luna explained.
Sombra then retorted, "I can still hurl large boulders at you if I wanted to."
The rest of the unicorn tribe watched only to see the two stop it in its place. They then threatened him back with the boulder now aimed him.
After placing the boulder back down, both Celestia and Luna flew right at Sombra and surrounded him from both sides saying, "You're reign of terror is over! We suggest you leave now if you want to live."
Now, Sombra is arrogant, but not stupid. Realizing he was woefully outnumbered, he left hopefully to never be seen again.
The other unicorns as well as the rest of the ponies bowed down to the two and said, "All hail Queens Celestia and Luna!"
However, they preferred to being called princesses, claiming that they would be more down to earth with them as opposed to being queens.
