Prologue: Message from an Old Friend


In the newly built Castle of Friendship, the human reborn as the foal of Princess Twilight Sparkle, Dusk Shine, formerly named Henry, was walking around the halls of the castle. He still wasn't used to the new castle. Then he walked into the throne room. He then saw the Mane 6 in the room, along with his new adopted sister from another dimension, Nyx. Rarity was with her, making the exact outfit she wore before everypony in her Equestria found out she was Nightmare Moon reborn.

Nyx looked over at Dusk, smiled and said, "Hey, bro. Where have you been?"

Dusk walked over towards Nyx and said, "I still haven't gotten use to this place."

"I know how you feel," Nyx said. Then the two of them sighed. "Guess we lived our whole lives in the Golden Oaks Library. Well, second life for you."

"Hold still, darling," Rarity said. "Just one more touch." Rarity then put on the headband that Nyx wore to complete the disguise. "And, done."

"Perfect," Twilight said, levitating a new set of enchanted glasses. "And I've just finished enchanting these glasses. At least you gave a defined description of your outfit from the Equestria you came from."

Nyx then put on the glasses, and her eyes became normal eyes. Nyx then looked over at her brother and the Mane 6 and asked, "What do you all think?"

"Wow," Rainbow Dash said. "You actually look like a normal unicorn with all that on."

"Ah have ta say, if Ah didn't know it was you under all that, Ah'd never know," Applejack said.

"You do look adorable in all of that, Nyx," Fluttershy said.

"Yeah!" Pinkie Pie said. "Even my daughters might get a kick out of this! I don't think they'd even recognize you!"

Nyx then looked over at Dusk and asked, "What do you think?"

Dusk smiled and said, "I don't really care what you look like. What matters is what you would rather be." Nyx pulled Dusk in for a hug.

"Thank you, Dusk," Nyx said. Twilight then walked over towards the two.

"That's good to hear, Dusk," Twilight said. "Now, Nyx, how about you go take that outfit off?" Nyx nodded and used her magic to take off the disguise. Just then, an delivery pony walked in with a cart full of books.

"Excuse me, Princess," the pony said. "Where do you want all these books from Princess Celestia?"

Twilight looked towards the pony and said, "The library. Third door on the left." What they didn't see that the book on the top of the pile of books was glowing and vibrating.

"Even this one that's glowin' and vibratin'?" the pony asked. The Mane 6, Spike, Dusk and Nyx looked up at the book that was vibrating. Twilight then used her magic to levitate the book towards her.

Twilight looked at one of the pages, and went wide eyed. Fluttershy walked towards Twilight and asked, "What is it, Twilight?"

"It looks like a message to Princess Celestia from my friends at Canterlot High," Twilight responded. That made Dusk and the others gasp. Nyx was the only one who didn't gasp.

"How is that even possible?" Rarity asked.

"I have no idea, but it... sounds like they need my help," Twilight said.

"What's Canterlot High?" Nyx asked.

"We still haven't told you about that, have we?" Spike asked. He then sighed and said, "Dusk. How about you and I explain it all to Nyx on the way to the Library?"

Dusk nodded as he, Spike and Nyx headed down the hall.

Later, in the Castle Library, Twilight was using her magic to pull out a book to see what was going on in the human dimension where Sunset Shimmer now calls home.

"The way Sunset Shimmer described them, I think these new girls sound an awful lot like... the sirens," Twilight explained.

"Not the sirens!" Pinkie said loudly. She then whispered loudly into Fluttershy's ear, saying, "I don't actually know what that is!"

Twilight then explained to them about the sirens. "The sirens were three beautiful but dangerous creatures who had the power to charm ponies with their music. But to maintain this power, they had to feed on the negativity and distrust of others. The more of this negative energy they consumed, the stronger their voices became, and the farther they could spread their dark magic."

"I don't think I like this story very much," Fluttershy said, getting nervous.

" If the sirens had their way, they would have divided and conquered all of Equestria," Twilight continued. "But a certain Star Swirl the Bearded wasn't having it. Rumor has it he found a way to banish them to another world – one where he believed their magic power would be lost." Twilight then looked around at her friends and said, "That world must have been the one where my Canterlot High friends live."

"But Star Swirl must have sent them there ages ago," Applejack added. "How come they're just surfacin' now?"

"I don't know," Twilight answered. "But if my hunch is right and it is the sirens who have come to Canterlot High, this spell they've cast is just the beginning. My friends need me. I have to get back to them."

"I hate to burst your bubble, Twilight," Rainbow Dash said, cutting Twilight off as the grown up alicorn was walking away, "but the connection between their world and Equestria will still be totally cut off for a super long time."

"Okay, first of all, if there was bubble-blowing going on, why wasn't I told about it?!" Pinkie asked, getting in between the two mares. "And secondly, if the connection is totally cut off, how was Sunset Shimmer able to get a message to Twilight?"

"Yeah, that is weird," Dusk said. "It's almost like that the books are connected, even throughout the entire multiverse. How is that even possible?"

"Well, maybe there's a way to use the magic of that book to force the portal open," Nyx added.

That made Twilight gasp. "Pinkie, Nyx, you two are geniuses!" She then ran off somewhere.

"Yeah, I get that a lot," Pinkie said. Then she looked at Rainbow Dash. "Now about those bubbles..."

Twilight was already busy on working on the portal, adding a few more gizmos to it so she can use the book to open the portal up whenever she wants to. Meanwhile, Dusk and Spike were explaining to Nyx what's on the other side of the portal.

"So, there's an entirely different world, yet somewhat similar to our own on the other side of that portal?" Nyx asked.

"Yep, that's basically the gist of it," Dusk said.

"And you got transformed back into a human?" Nyx asked.

"Well, yes, but the humans there are a lot different than the humans from my original world," Dusk said.

"He said that the humans of his world didn't have skin or hair colors like those ones," Spike said. "And the humans there have colors of the ponies of Equestria."

"Well, except for Big Mac," Dusk said. "His skin was the closest thing to my world's human skin color." Then they headed towards the portal to see what Twilight had done.

And Twilight was explaining how it was going to work. "...And the interval between the two points is defined as the square root of the sum of the squares of the separation between the points along three spatial dimensions."

Dusk, Spike, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity and Rainbow Dash were confused on what Twilight was saying. Spike then asked, "Say what now?"

"Duh!" Pinkie said like she knows what Twilight is talking about. "She's gonna take the magic in here..." Pinkie pointed at the book. Then she went over to the portal. "...and put it in there. hat'll make the portal open up so that whenever she wants to, she can go..." Pinkie then went back and forth from the book to the mirror. "...from here to there. There to here. Here to there. Here there! Here there! Here..."

Applejack cut her off, saying, "We get the idea!" Pinkie was laying in front of the mirror.

Pinkie then got up and Twilight walked over towards the mirror. She turned around and picked up the book that the message from Sunset Shimmer came from, saying, "Now to see if it actually works." The book was placed on the pedestal on the top of the mechanisms, and the magic from the book started going through the other gizmos on the device. Then a portal opened up over the mirror, which then went into the mirror. The others givings "Oohs" and "Aahs" as it was going.

"Don't suppose we could join you this time around?" Applejack asked.

"Better not," Twilight answered. "It could make things pretty confusing if Canterlot High all of a sudden had two of all of you."

"But we did go to another dimension before," Rainbow Dash said.

"Sure, but everypony there was still a pony," Twilight said. "But everypony was the wrong gender."

"What? Seriously?!" Nyx asked, looking at all of them.

"Yeah, it's true," Dusk said. "I wasn't here around the time, but I knew that they went."

"How?" Nyx asked.

"Let's just say we were visited by a colt from that dimension," Dusk said. "It was Apple Bloom's male counterpart, Apple Buck."

"Yeah," Applejack said. "It was a surprise for me as well. Ah still couldn't believe that he came ta our Equestria."

"I still can't believe that there's a dimension where everypony is gender swapped," Nyx said.

"It's basically where I picked up the name for Dusk here," Twilight said, rubbing Dusk's head. "I named him after my counterpart from that dimension."

Nyx nodded and said, "That would explain it." Then something came to her and she asked, "Wait a minute. Does that mean that there's another me and you in that dimension?"

"That is a possibility," Twilight said. "But now, I have to get back to that dimension."

"But Dusk and I still get to go, right?" Spike asked. "There isn't another us at Canterlot High. And you never know if you might need your trusty assistant."

"Well, yeah," Twilight said. "You and Dusk can come." She then looked over at Nyx. She then sighed. "Nyx can come as too."

"What?!" everypony else asked in surprise.

"Well, we don't know if there is a Nyx in that dimension," Twilight said. "Dusk, you have to help Nyx adjust to the life of that dimension."

"You got it, Mom," Dusk said.

Twilight then levitated the enchanted glasses and put them on Nyx's face, making her eyes go common looking. Twilight then said, "Just to make sure that the enchantment will still work on the other side." Nyx nodded and she, along with Twilight, Dusk and Spike got into position. Twilight turned her head to her friends and said, "We won't be gone long."

Twilight's friends wished her luck. Rarity told Twilight to dress well.

Twilight then looked back at Spike, Dusk and Nyx and asked, "You three ready?"

Dusk and Nyx nodded. Spike was cracking his knuckles, blowing out and rubbed his claws. Then he said, "Ready." Then the four of them went into the portal, heading to the other dimension.





On the other side of the portal, Sunset Shimmer and the human versions of Twilight's friends were waiting for Twilight to arrive. Rarity was painting Fluttershy's nails, Applejack and Pinkie Pie were on top of the pedestal playing poker, which Applejack had four aces when Pinkie had four jokers, and Sunset and Rainbow Dash were leaning right by the portal. Sunset was reading the old messages from the book and Rainbow Dash was bouncing a soccer ball.

Rainbow Dash sighed and said, "I'm starting to think she's not coming."

Just then, the portal started rippling, and coming out of the portal were Twilight, Spike, Dusk and Nyx. Then Sunset and the human version of Twilight's friends got up and shouted, "Twilight!"

They all went over towards Twilight, Spike, Dusk and Nyx. Twilight turned to see Sunset giving her a hand. Twilight was a little hesitant at first, but she took Sunset's hand. Dusk got up and helped Nyx up.

"Who is that?!" Rainbow Dash asked.

Twilight looked over at the other girls, who were looking at Dusk and Nyx. Twilight then explained, "That's Nyx. She's... well... from an alternate Equestria. We'll do some catching up."
