//------------------------------// // Booting up // Story: Wall-E: Rediscover // by RaygenBrady //------------------------------// A fluorescent bulb flickered as it hung from the ceiling, a yellow and brown box sitting beneath the light. The room itself was dingy and decayed, wires hung from the ceiling as various forms of fungus and mold grew on the walls and floor. Suddenly the room began to shake as objects fell to the ground, causing a loud crashing before a bright wave of light coursed through the walls and ceiling. The tremors calmed down afterward before an LCD screen on the front of the yellow box lit up with a logo of the sun and a flashing warning label underneath. A robotic groan echo's through the room as the cube began to open from the top, two binocular eyes peaking out weakly as the lenses spin to focus their view. Two slim arms decoupled from the sides while the Robot lifted off the ground to expose the forklift-like tracks for legs. The cube-shaped bot named Wall-e let out a weak "Eeeevvvaa?" as his head spun around, looking for his white companion but all he could see was a dark and rotting room. Groggily, he moved forward, the wheels spinning with no problem as he exits out of the only door he could see. Wall-E bumped into the door frame in his exhausted state before maneuvering out into a hallway, looking just as bad as the room he just left. Moving down the hall, Wall-E comes across another doorway with the door cracked open before reaching out with a 3-pronged hand and pushing open the door before looking inside. 'Why are humans gone? Where is Eva?' Wall-E thought but first heeded to the words given to him by his CPU 'Objective: Charge'. He slowly drove into the room and finally laid his lenses on the charging cable attached to the wall beside an office cubicle. He remembered the Human who worked there, "Jooooon..." he called out sadly before turning to the cable and poking it into his back. A yellow progress bar slowly climbed up the LCD screen as his sleepiness was slowly replaced with energy, it only took 32.5 seconds to fill his battery which was faster than the usual 52.7 seconds it took when solar charging. He pulled the plug out of his back once he heard the familiar tone of fully charging before turning 90 degrees on the spot and speeding off back into the hall with newfound vigor. Wall-E was growing concerned about the lack of life. He then began thinking about what to do before his computing gave him an idea on his HUD, 'New Objective. Find Eva.' Wall-E nodded and started to check every room he came across, grunting in frustration every time he either came across a locked door or when a room had nothing of use in them. Most of the rooms were ruined offices while there were few rooms made for human living, such as a gym, cafeteria, and Living quarters but none had any sign of life, not even a skeleton. It wasn't long till he started running out of doors to open and started to get worried, he was missing all of his human friends that worked in this facility. These bunkers were built and the humans brought him and Eve here two months after arriving back on Earth because it took those two months to realize that the air was still toxic. Everything seemed fine after that, all his robot friends were doing their services in other bunkers but at least he had Eve... Which he couldn't find... And that realization made him more concerned as he doubled his efforts to find her, zooming through the halls as fast as his tracks can take him while calling out nervous "Eeeevaaaaa? EEEVAAAAA!?". He stopped at an intersection in the halls, Wall-E slowed as he eventually came across a staircase going down with a ramped side for him, he rode down the ramp before coming across a blast door. A small red dot above the door dimly flickered as Wall-E stopped in front of it, the dim red light brightened as a red laser wave washed over him, causing him to jump in fear before a distorted female voice on the blast door intercom said "W-Welc-come Wall-E" and began to slowly open. Wall-E paced on the spot as he waited for the hydraulics to pull the metal doors apart and into the wall but it suddenly jammed leaving just enough space to fit through. He would shimmy through sideways, bonking his head on the door as he squeezed through and popped out the other side. He looked around the room and saw all kinds of machinery and electronic devices. A large pod in the middle is what catches Wall-E's eye though as he slowly approaches the metal dome, finding a console in front of it. He notices a red button with the word 'Release' on it so decides to push it, the button lights up and the pod begins to split down the middle while a broken alarm rang through the room. Wall-E slowly backs up as steam pours out from the cracks before getting a glimpse of a white and glossy shell. He pauses near the door for a quick escape just in case of danger and waits for the steam to dissipate, he never got to wait though as a white form flys at him and tackles him to the floor. Wall-E looks down the barrel of a plasma gun as the blue core heats up, he looks past the weapon and looks into the visor of Eve. Her LCD eyes glare back at him as he pleads with her "Eva!", Her eyes soften as she realizes who she is aiming her gun at before quickly switching her arm back to normal and pulling him into a hug, lifting him off the ground while exclaiming "Wall-E!". They hold their embrace for a few seconds before they share their first moment since they went into hibernation, their heads come together as a spark arches between Wall-E's and Eve's faces. They release the hug before Eve asks "What happened?" Wall-E replied with "Humans gone, everything broken" his head would slouch down as Eve also felt a little sadness, she could recall the reason from the humans to taking their long sleep as being 'You're not needed anymore'. They wouldn't tell Wall-E of their plans because of how sensitive he can be. Eve then looked at the blast door before saying "Let us find Humans, Wall-E". Wall-E nodded and followed her up to the door where she switched back to the plasma gun arm and shot at the door several times, melting a bigger hole for better traversal. Eve hovered through the hole while Wall-E followed behind, going back up the stairs before going down a random hall. Wall-E looked to Eva and asked "Where are humans?" Eve shrugged "No idea" Wall-E shrunk a little into his body like a turtle as they continued forward, finding an exit sign and following it before coming to a ladder that went up to a hatch. Eve held Wall-E close before firing at the hatch, blowing it off and flying out of the hole with him and into... a forest? Both robots were certainly confused at the lush vegetation around them, not a single skyscraper or piece of trash in sight. Wall-E was set down before he tested his tracks on the grass, satisfied with the result. "Where we go now?" Wall-E wondered out loud, looking around the clearing they were in before Eve pointed out a path in the treeline, Wall-E taking point as he hummed a tune while going down the path. Eve nodded along to the impromptu music until she notices 3 heat signatures speeding towards them, quickly aiming her plasma gun in the direction they're coming from before a ball bounces out of a bush. Both Wall-E and Eve tilt their head before a yellow quadrupedal creature with red hair and a bow comes out to retrieve the lost item, the small creature grabs the ball and celebrates before noticing the two robot bystanders and freezing on the spot in terror, two similar creatures joining her side and also freezing when laying sight on the robots. Wall-E gives a sheepish wave as he says "Waaaalllll-eeee" though this didn't seem like the best course of action as right after he tried to talk, they screamed and ran away. Wall-E slouches in defeat as he lets out a sad sigh, Eve giving him a few pats on the back before asking "Where is home?" Wall-E shrugged which made him even sadder, his collection is gone as far as he knows. It was hurting Eve to see him in this kind of distress so she told him to stay before flying up into the sky and getting a look at the land. They were right on the edge of a forest, a settlement not too far from here with a large mountain further back with a castle built on the side. Eve then looked behind and saw a smaller mountain, deciding that it would be best to head there so they could get a proper shelter. She hovered back down to Wall-E and said "Mountain that way, Directive: Shelter" He showed his hesitance by tapping his fingers together nervously as he thought of other options. His CPU couldn't come up with a better idea so he nods, prompting Eve to float down the path with Wall-E soon driving after her, holding her hand softly as they travel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "APPLEJACK! APPLEJACK!" Applebloom called out to her sister while her 2 friends followed behind, terrified by the alien encounter. The orange earth pony they are looking for drops a bucket of apples as the Cutie Mark Crusaders stop in front of her, panting as Applebloom tried to speak between deep breaths "T-Two aliens... in E-Everfree forest" Applejack simply tilted her head in confusion as she squinted her eyes at her little sister and asked "What were ya doing near that gosh-darn forest? Ah told you several times to stay away." All 3 fillies lowered their head in shame at the brief scolding before Applejack sighs and inquires about their supposed alien encounter "What were you saying about aliens? You saw two in the forest?" Applebloom perked up and nodded frantically while Scootaloo explained further "Yeah! There was a floating white egg with blue eyes and one that looked like a box, it even spoke to us!" Applejack couldn't believe what she was hearing but she couldn't find any lie or deception in their voice, she sighed as her hoof rubbed her snout "I'll tell Twilight about it, see if she has seen somethin' like you described... Did you catch what it said?" The 3 fillies looked at each other for a few seconds before Scootaloo finally spoke up "I-i think it said Worry or something, it sounded like a robot..." Sweetie Belle then butted in "No, it said Wally!" The girls were going to start arguing but Applejack quickly cut them off "Alright, just go play somewhere that isn't near the forest..." The Cutie Mark Crusaders nodded and ran off towards town, leaving Applejack to shake her head in amusement. But her smirk turned into a gasp as a loud BOOM echoed around the orchard and a blue-flamed explosion rose over the top of the trees in the Everfree forest.
