Turquoise and Fluttershy safely arrived in Goldenrod City and with four days before the contest which gave the girls ample time to look around.
“This place is almost as big as Celadon City,” Fluttershy said while feeling a bit intimidated.
“I know right,” Turquoise said excitedly. The girls were now by what looked like a huge building with a huge radio tower on it. Before Turquoise could say anything a man wearing a suit approached her while smiling.
“Young lady, how would you like to take our pokemon quiz challenge? the winner gets a new Pokegear X just released from Silphco last week,” The man asked.
“Sure,” Turquoise said.
“Excellent,” The man said before showing Turquoise and Fluttershy to what looked like a soundproof recording room. Turquoise was seated in front of a man wearing a yellow and purple checkered suit with a matching top hat that had a question mark on top. As soon as they were both seated the on-air sign lit up.
“Welcome listeners to today’s episode of Pokemon Quiz Mania,” The man who was across from Turquoise said into a mic before continuing. “Today’s topic is Regional Variants but before we begin let’s introduce today’s contestant. Young Lady can you tell the listeners your name and where you come from. The mic was turned to Turquoise soon after.
“My name is Turquoise and I come from Pallet Town in the Kanto Region,” Turquoise said into the mic before it was turned over to the quiz master.
“Well Turquoise allow me to explain how this works,” The Quiz Master said before continuing. “I will ask you five questions and if you get them all correct you win the grand prize but if you miss a single one you get the consolation prize, You will have ten seconds to answer each question and if you don’t answer it will count as being incorrect. With the explanation done it was time to begin. “First Question, What type is Alolan Ninetails? Turquoise didn’t even need ten seconds for this one since she already knew the answer.
“An Ice and fairy Type,” Turquoise said before a bell dinged which indicated she was correct.
“Correct, Next Question, True or false, Both forms of Farfetch’d evolve into Sirfetch’d?” The Quiz Master asked. Turquoise took a few seconds before answering.
“False,” Turquoise said before the ding was heard.
“Correct only the Galarian variant evolves into Sirfetch’d,” The Quiz Master said before moving on. “ Next question, what talent is a Galarian Mr.Mime known for?” Turquoise took a few seconds and suddenly remembered.
“Dancing,” Turquoise said before another ding was heard.
“Correct,” The Quiz Master said before moving on to the fourth question. “Next question, What is the name of Alolan Raichu’s ability?” Turquoise took about seven seconds to think before answering.
“Surge Surfer,” Turquoise said before the ding was heard.
“Impressive you managed to get four questions right so far now answer this last one right and you win,” The Quiz Master said.
“Bring it,” Turquoise said feeling psyched for this one.
“Last Question, Where in the Galar region can find a Galraian Ponyta?” The Quiz Master asked. Turquoise wasted no time in answering after remembering what she read before her journey.
“Glimwood Tangle,” Turquoise said which caused the bell to ding multiple times.
“Congratulation Turquoise you are today’s big winner,” The quiz Master said before giving her her prize which was a pink Pokegear with a white cross design on it. “That’s it for our show folks, tune in tomorrow at the same time same place. As soon as Turquoise and Fluttershy left the Radio station Turquoise began playing with her new Pokegear and noticed it was more than just a phone it also had a map, a customization option, and a radio.
“This thing has a built-in map do you know what that means?” Turquoise asked Fluttershy.
“No more getting lost?” Fluttershy asked.
“Exactly,” Turquoise said before putting her new Pokegear away. As they kept walking they soon arrived at another huge building which was the Goldenrod Department Store. As soon as they went inside they saw many stands and five floors. The girls decided to split up and see what they can find. Turquoise decided to check the second floor and went to the escalator. As soon as she reached the second floor she noticed all the counters with stones and gems. Turquoise was suddenly drawn to a stone that was a black as the night sky.
“You have a good eye miss, That is a Dusk Stone, If it is A Murkrow, Misdreavus, Lapent, or Doublade you wish to evolve that stone will make them evolve,” The lady behind the counter said while smiling.
“I’ll take it,” Turquoise said before pulling her money out.
“Excellent,” The lady said before pulling the stone out from beneath the counter. Turquoise then proceeded through the rest of the store and later found herself on the fourth floor where they were selling TMs and TRs. She then remembered what Selina told her back at Galena Town.
“Good a time as any to work on some new combinations,” Turquoise said to herself. She then looked through the selection of TMs and when she came across the TM07 Pin Missile she had an idea of how to use it in the upcoming contest. She took it along with TR58 Dark Pulse. After paying for them Turquoise decided to check the rest of the store out.
Meanwhile, with Fluttershy, She managed to buy enough ingredients for tonight’s dinner.
“I hope Turquoise was able to find what she was looking for,” Fluttershy said to herself while walking. Sometime later the girls reunited on the first floor. “Did you find everything you wanted?
“I sure did,” Turquoise said while showing her the stuff she bought.
“So where do next?” Fluttershy asked.
“To the Pokemon Center, I have a couple of things I need to do now,” Turquoise said. As soon as they arrived at the Pokemon Center she called out her Murkrow to accomplish her first task which was long overdue. “Ready to evolve Murkrow? Murkrow looked excited as Turquoise pulled out the Dusk Stone and placed it on Murkrow which caused her to glow. Murkrow body began to grow bigger while her hat began to change from a witch hat to a fedora-shaped one. As soon as the light faded a bigger bird with white chest fluff and red feather beneath its black wings and the tip of its tails stood where Murkrow once did.
“Honchkrow,” The new bird shouted before Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex.
“Honchkrow, The Big Boss Pokemon and the evolved form of Murkrow. Becoming active at night, it is known to swarm with numerous Murkrow in tow,” The Pokedex said.
“Congrats on your Murkrow evolving,” A girl with pink hair wearing a white and pink button shirt said which surprised them.
“And you are?” Turquoise asked.
“ How rude of me, I’m The Goldenrod city gym Leader Whitley,” Whitley said.
“Your the Gym Leader,” Turquoise said in shock.
“Sure am and I’m here having my pokemon healed,” Whitley said.
“I came to challenge you but I guess I’ll have to wait until tomorrow,” Turquoise said.
“I’ll be waiting at my gym until then,” Whitley said. With today’s excitement, it was now time for Turquoise and Fluttershy to call it a night.
The next day Turquoise was thinking about what to use for this gym battle. After hearing how Whitley uses Normal-types she was tempted to bring in her Lucario but also wanted to make the pokemon she has now stronger for any upcoming battles they may face. She figured the best strategy, for now, was to wing it since normal-types don’t have many weaknesses. After asking for directions to the gym the girls set off. Despite taking a couple of wrong turns they arrived in front of a building that did not look like anything fancy like the other gyms usually are. As soon as they entered Whitley was standing on her end of the battlefield ready to go.
“You made it,” Whitley said.
“It wasn’t easy but we found the place,” Turquoise said.
“I hope you’re ready,” Whitley said.
“I sure am,” Turquoise said before a gym trainer who was a girl wearing an outfit similar to Whitney’s to her place at the Ref’s spot.
“The battle between Whitney the gym leader and Turquoise the challenger will now begin, Each side will use three pokemon and the battle is over when all of one side’s pokemon are unable to battle, In addition, only the challenger may substitute pokemon,” The ref said.
“Got it,” Whitney said.
“Understood,” Turquoise said.
“Let the battle begin,” The Ref said.
“Nidorina let’s go,” Whitney said as she called out a blue creature. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for more info.
“Nidorina, The Poison pin Pokemon. The horn on its head has atrophied. It’s thought that this happens so Nidorina’s children won’t get poked while their mother is feeding them,” The Pokedex said. Even though Nidorina’s arrival took Turquoise by surprise she was not giving up and quickly made her choice.
“Go Hunchkrow,” Turquoise said as Hunchkrow came out.
“Not bad using your newly evolved pokemon right off the bat but that won’t be enough to beat me. Nidorina use Toxic Spikes. Nidorina fired a bunch of poison-covered caltrops that embedded themselves onto Turquoise’s side of the field. “Now use Skull Bash. Nidorina took off and managed to nail Hunchkrow for a good amount of damage. As soon as Hunchkrow made contact with the battlefield she was instantly poisoned. “Our turn to go on the offensive. Hunchkrow use Assurance. Hunchkrow unleashed a dark aura that managed to deal a lot of damage to Nidorina but not enough to knock her out. Suddenly the poison kicked in and drained some of Hunchkrow’s health.
“Time to wrap this up, Nidorina use Double Kick. Nidorina leaped at Hunchkrow with both her hind legs glowing.
“Hunchkrow use Wing Attack. Hunchkrow’s wings glowed as she flew at Nidorina at top speed. As soon as both moves collided the battlefield was covered in smoke. As soon as the smoke cleared both Nidorina and Hunchkrow were knocked out.
“Both Pokemon are unable to battle, this match is a draw,” The ref said while crossing her flags.
“Nidorina return,” Whitney said while recalling Nidorina. “You did great out there.
“Hunchkrow return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Hunchkrow. “You thought hard and deserve a good rest. Turquoise was awaiting Whitney’s next pokemon with anticipation.
“Clefairy let’s go,” Whitney said as she sent out a cute pink creature that look happy.
“Clefairy,” The creature said while jumping with joy.
“So that’s a Clefairy,” Turquoise said while pulling out her Pokedex.
“Clefairy, The Fairy Pokemon, It is said that happiness will come to those who see a gathering of Clefairy dancing under a full moon,” The Pokedex said. Turquoise was surprised to see another pokemon that wasn’t a normal type.
“In that case, Go Espeon,” Turquoise said as she called Espeon out only for her to get poisoned by the Toxic Spikes. “Espeon use Psybeam. Espeon unleashed her Psybeam which did not faze Whitley.
“Dodge and use Metronome. Clefairy dodged the Psybeam and began waving its glowing fingers back and forth for about five seconds before pointing forward. Suddenly a black hole opened up beneath Clefairy before it went into it.
“No way that’s Phantom Force,” Turquoise said in shock.
“That’s the power of Metronome, you never know what move you will get and in this case, we hit the jackpot because Phantom Force is one of the strongest moves a Ghost-Type can learn,” Whitley said.
“Keep up your guard Espeon,” Turquoise shouted. Suddenly Clefairy came out of the shadows and struck Espeon for a ton of damage that nearly one-shot her. “Use Morning Sun. Espeon’s body was covered in sunlight which caused her to recover some of her health. “Now use Psychic. Espeon unleashed her Psychic attack only for Whitley to counter it.
“Use Metronome again,” Whiteley said as Clefairy did the same thing as last time only this time to end up with Stealth Rock which was reflected to Whitley’s side of the field thanks to Espeon’s Magic Bounce. As for the Psychic, it was strong enough to knock Clefairy out.
“Clefairy is unable to battle, Espeon is the winner,” The ref said while pointing her right flag at Turquoise.
“Clefairy return,” Whitney said as she recalled Clefairy. “You did great now rest. I must say that Espeon is one tough opponent being able to withstand a powerful attack like Phantom Force.
“Espeon and I have been through a lot together,” Turquoise said.
“But can it handle my next pokemon?” Whitney asked before pulling out her third Pokeball. “Go Miltank. A cow-like creature came out and look very mild until the damage from Stealth Rock kicked in. Turquoise pulled out her Pokedex for the third time.
“Miltank, The Milk Cow Pokemon, Miltank produces highly nutritious milk, so it's been supporting the lives of people and other Pokémon since ancient times,” The Pokedex said.
“I will stick with my Espeon,” Turquoise said.
“Suit yourself, Miltank use Rollout. Miltank began rolling at a high velocity and managed to send Espeon flying out of the battlefield and into the wall behind Turquoise which caused Espeon to faint.
“Espeon is unable to battle, Miltank is the winner,” The ref said while pointing her left flag at Whitney.
“Espeon return,” Turquoise said as she recalled Espeon. “You battle marvelously now rest. Turquoise wasted no time in calling out her last Pokemon. “Go Bayleef. As soon as Bayleef landed she was poisoned by the Toxic Spikes.
“Miltank use Rollout. Miltank was now rolling much faster than before.
“Bayleef use Vine whip to jump. Bayleef summoned out two vines that hit the floor and sent her into the air and allowed her to dodge Rollout. “Now use Magical leaf. Bayleef unleashed her Magical Leaf with all she had and managed to nail Miltank for a good amount of damage. As soon as she landed she felt the poison kick in and weaken her.
“You may have dodged that but let’s see you dodge this one, Miltank use Rollout. Miltank rolled even faster which took Turquoise by surprise.
“Bayleef Use Vine whip to stand your ground. Bayleef managed to push Miltank back but it kept pushing. Suddenly Bayleef managed to push Miltank back and stop the Rollout. “Now use Magical Leaf. Bayleef put everything she had into this one and managed to inflict a ton of damage. As soon as the smoke cleared Miltank fell and looked like it fainted.
“Miltank is unable to battle, Bayleef is the winner which means victory goes to Turquoise the challenger,” The ref said while pointing her right flag at Turquoise.
“We did it,” Turquoise said with joy. After recalling Miltank Whitley approached Turquoise.
“That was a lot of fun and as proof of your victory here at the Goldenrod City Gym I present with the Plain Badge,” Whitley said while giving Turquoise a yellow badge with a silver diamond-shaped outline.
“Thanks, Whitley,” Turquoise said.
“So where are you girls off to next?” Whitley asked.
“After the contest here we are off to find the next gym,” Turquoise said.
“ Then you want to go to Ecruteak City that is where you will find the next gym,” Whitley said. Turquoise used this as a perfect time to test the map function of her new Pokegear. After checking the map it looked like it would take about a week to reach Ekruteak City on foot. After having her Pokemon healed Turquoise and Fluttershy decided to call it a night.
