Chapter 3 Side Effect

After making Celestia leave, Avery lay back on the bed thinking about what he just did.

Avery wants to help, but the question "telling Celestia those and giving her hope only ends up nothingness" keeps bothering his mind since no one knows how the future will go, and his knowledge will be the main reason changing the future holds for all ponykind.

"Did I make the right choice?" Avery questioned himself. He had a feeling he had told her something she shouldn't acknowledge.

"Twilight. The doctor is ready to start your magic and body check; would you come with me." A grey fur pony nurse opens the door say.

"Ok! I'm coming!" Without hesitation, Avery got out of bed and followed the nurse right away.

Walking through the corridor, Avery didn't see any other patients, even rooms, which made him wonder if Celestia put him in a lab rather than a hospital or if this place was supposed to be VIP only.

So many possibilities appear inside his mind, but the nurse's words brought him back to reality.

"We're here. The doctor is waiting inside the room. Also, there is nothing to worry about the check. It's easy, and we're not going to make you do anything scary. You will be fine!" The nurse says with a soft tone, probably because she sees Avery’s nervous face.

Taking a deep breath, Avery walks into the room.

The examination is pretty basic: weight, height, physical reaction, etc. Nothing special, but the last two are the most attractive and significant, magic potential power and magic resistance.

Avery doesn't care about magic resistance, but the other one's magic potential power makes him dread cause if his potential power is weak, then he can't fulfill Twilight's duties, which will be a disaster for the world's fate.

The doctor puts a device on Avery’s horn, and he feels a warm energy washing through his head, which for the first time, he feels the magic within him is activating. Quite frankly, it's kind of weird but marvelous at the same time for Avery.

Unfortunately, that wonderful feeling didn't last long because the doctor's face looks blue, making Avery worry.

"Is something wrong?" Avery asked while hoping it wouldn't be much of a bigger deal.

"I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that you have unbelievably strong magic resistance, and in fact, the strongest I've ever seen. And the bad news is... Well." The doctor draws off in the middle of his word.

"It's ok! You can tell me I think I can handle whatever the bad news is." Avery says, try to be calm, but his heart is already beating so fast that he doesn't even know if he will be able to deal with it or not.

"Magic resistance makes the magic from outside hard to get in, which means the magic you cast, aka inside, hard to get out as well. For normal ponies, the magic resistance is so weak that they can just ignore it, but your resistance is too strong and making you may not be able to cast a powerful spell even the basic one could be hard for you to cast." The doctor says, and all of his worries are written all over his face.

After hearing what he said, Avery’s mind froze up, trying to organize what he said. ‘Did he seriously mean it, or is there something else going on?’ And all the worry and anxiety broke him.

Seeing Avery’s reaction, the doctor walks toward him and speaks to him, "Do you need a hug or something else like ice cream?" He is very concerned since Avery has been standing there, not doing anything for two minutes.

"Uh...! Sure...! I would like to have some ice cream. Thank you!" Avery responds to him while still recovering from the fact he just told him.

"All the checking is finished, you can head back to your room, taking a rest, and I will be there with ice cream in about ten minutes. Is that ok with you, or do you need anything else?" The doctor says, and obviously, he feels guilty for telling Avery these.

"Mmm...? Oh, uh...? I think that will be enough, no need to give me anything else. Uh...? I better head back to my room. Thank you." With that, Avery went back to his room. Although he trips all over his hoof a lot of time when heading back since he is still practicing walking, the doctor just assumes that Avery is too shocked to walk correctly.

Back in the room, Avery sits on the chair and thinks about his next step.

‘Well, everything went wrong; I feel like an idiot for worrying this much stuff, and not just here back in the human world as well. Maybe I should be like Pinkie Pie and stop overthinking every little thing.’

Avery envies Pinkie for her naivety, and he always wants to be like her, but he always thinks it's inappropriate.

All of sudden, he thought to himself. ‘You know what! Fuck everything; I'm using Pinkie Pie style to solve every task ahead of me! Throw away all the plans I had for the future. Now! From this moment, my only goal is to give everypony hope and a smile.’

All the things that happened at once had crushed Avery’s soul and started making him into a madman, which maybe could be a good thing?

The lights (hope) that are born inside the darkness (despair) will be the brightest light you have ever seen, vice versa, and balance is the most important thing of all.

A black unicorn walks inside the room where these words are written on the sign, and he speaks to the white alicorn who is sitting inside the room.

"Do you think that is a good idea? If we were not careful enough, instead of being a hope he..., she will be the end of the world."

"Only time will tell, but I can tell you I do not regret my choice. Even with what I had cost..." The alicorn responds.

"..." There is no response, both of them start looking at each other without a word. They know what they have done, but there is no time for them to regret what they did.

Suddenly a black figure appears from the shadow, "I'm sorry, but don't we have more important things to do than caring about them, am I right? We had done what we could; there is no point in worrying. Back to your work!"

"Yes, sir!" Both ponies said with an unpleasant tone, but they know this is for the best then back to their working position.

After the unicorn left, the shadow figure says, "By the way, Lauren, it seems your spell cost some side effect."

"You gotta be kidding me! How!? Tell me you are joking! Misty, you try fooling me, right?" Lauren responded back with nervousness and shock.

"Unfortunately, I'm not. And you know I don't do jokes." Misty's reply was expressionless.

"I'm going to help them!" Lauren said, standing up and trying to leave, but Misty stopped her.

"You interfere enough already, and you know the rule. Now, get back to your documents and start working." Misty says while staring Lauren in the eye.

"But! They are my daughters, my subjects!" Lauren said, and you can feel the powerlessness and sadness in her voice.

"Listen! I had given you lots of rights that often others don't and let you transport people to Equestria to help them out. Plus, we agreed this would be the last time you meddle in that world, didn't we?" Misty said with an austere tone.

"Fine! At least tell me what the side effects are!" Lauren says unhappily.

"First, her body slowly becomes anti-magic, won't fully turn anti but pretty close already. Second, her intelligence went down, but because she was a scientist, which only makes her back to the same level as normal people. Third, her soul isn't stable, and I guess it would take at least nine to ten years to stabilize. Lastly, her words are now having the effect of hypnosis, others will believe what she says more easily without realizing it, and it's slowly growing stronger." Misty finishes her words waiting for Lauren to tell her what she thinks.

"Oh my god!" Lauren doesn't know what else to say; she stuns like a statue.

"Darling, I know you love them, and I do too. However, if you intervene too much, they won't learn a thing; thus, please! Let them be." Misty hugs Lauren trying to make her calm.

"You are right; I should let go a long time ago," Lauren says with tears in her eyes. The two ponies were just standing there hugging and finally settled to let them go.
