A Day at the Beach: A Selina Lunar Short Story

A Day at the Beach

Towels?”

“Check.”

“Sunscreen?”

“Check.”

“Sunglasses?”

“Check.”

“Drinks?”

“In the cooler.”

“So check then?”

“Yes, Twilight.”

Twilight lets out a sigh and I can’t help but roll my eyes in amusement. We have been at this for the past ten minutes and as always, Twilight wants to make sure that we have everything before we head out to spend the day at the beach with Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Applejack today.

Right now, both Twilight and I are wearing our bathing suits. I am wearing a two piece bathing suit that is navy blue with white spots on them that resemble stars and Twilight is wearing a one piece bathing suit that is a mixture of lilac and blue. Don’t ask me why I decided to wear a two piece swimsuit.

To be honest, I am extremely excited to go to the beach with Twilight and our friends. The beach is one of the places that I was never able to go to back when I was a human. My mother and father always excluded me from coming with them and my siblings and I was left home alone for a full week. So the opportunity to finally go to the beach is like a dream come true.

Just then, the double doors behind us slam open and I jump a little. I turn to look and smile a little.

Charging into the room is Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie, who happens to be the only one hopping up and down as happily as she can be. I instantly notice the bathing suits that they are wearing. Rarity and Fluttershy are both wearing a one piece bathing suit like Twilight while Rainbow Dash, Applejack and Pinkie Pie are wearing a two piece bathing suit like me. The bathing suits match the color of their manes and tails and I find this to be cute. They all look cute, to be honest.

They stop about a foot from me and Twilight and look at us with a small hint of worry on their faces, except for Pinkie Pie, who still has that big smile on her face and hopping energetically.

“Hi, Twilight! Hi, Selina!” Pinkie says cheerfully.

“Hi, Pinkie,” me and Twilight say at the same time before turning our full attention to the others.

“Twilight, we are terrible sorry for the wait,” Rarity says before glaring at Rainbow Dash. “We would have gotten here sooner if it wasn’t for somepony refusing to get up.”

“I can’t help loving some shut eye, Rarity,” Rainbow Dash retorted. I can sense a fight coming up. I really don’t want anything like this to happen before we head to the beach.

“Girls, that’s enough,” I say. The two mares look in my direction. “What matters is that you’re all here and ready. There is no need to get heated over something so small.”

They glare at each other, but I can tell that they know I’m right. Something clicks in my head and I remember that I have a few things that I want to bring to the beach. I smile and face the all of the mares.

“I just remembered; I have a few things that I will be bringing with us to the beach,” I say. They all give me a curious look and I feel my smile grow a little more.

I zoom out of the room and immediately come back with the items I’m planning to bring with us to the beach. I have the items grasped in my magic and floating above my head. My excitement skyrockets and I begin fidgeting with excitement, so much that it is becoming difficult to keep myself under control. I know I am failing.

I introduce each item to them and float them in front of me so that they can get a better look at them, excitedly naming each one as I do.

“Chairs, umbrellas, beach ball, shovels, pails, and some yummy snacks.”

They all give me these slightly unnerved expressions, but I don’t pay it any mind. I am way too excited to even care. I bite my lower lip and begin hopping from hoof to hoof like an excited little filly.

I look over to Twilight and give her an excited smile.

“What do you think?” I ask excitedly. Twilight gives me uneasy smile and looks me in the eyes.

“It’s wonderful, Selina,” Twilight says, trying to hide her uneasiness. I let it slide and still keep the smile on my face.

“This is going to be so much fun!!” I exclaim excitedly. I squeal and hop from hoof to hoof once again for a few seconds before stopping.

“You ready to go, Selina?” Twilight asks me, this time with a normal smile.

“Yep,” I say, nodding my head. Twilight’s horn lights up and I know nothing.

My senses return and I slowly open my eyes. I am awestruck by the sight. Surrounding the seven of us is nothing but this strange powdery stuff that gives off this warm feeling under my hooves. Further forward is this huge body of water that looks to be endless.

‘This must be what many others call the beach,’ I think to myself. ‘It’s so beautiful.’

“Goodness, Selina, I have never seen a pony become so excited to see the beach as much as you before in my life,” Rarity says to me with a slightly shocked tone. I look to the mare and I feel my smile weaken a little.

“Well…” I hesitate for a small moment. “There’s something I need to tell you girls.”

“What is it?” Fluttershy asks. I take a deep breath my nerves and let it out.

“This… this is my first time going to the beach. My former parents always excluded me from going and left me home alone to fend for myself while they and my siblings went to go have a fun time. They would be at the beach for an entire week while I struggled and left alone.”

They all look at me with utter shock and disbelief. Their jaws fall to the ground and their eyes widen to the size of beach balls. They slowly recover from their shock and look me in the eyes.

“You… you must be joking!!” Rarity exclaimed. I simply shake my head.

“How can somepony do that?!” Rainbow Dash exclaimed angrily.

“My parents never loved and cared about me,” I simply say. “It’s just how they were. Nothing that I could’ve done.”

“This explains your excited behavior,” Applejack says. I give her a simple nod.

“Yep,” I say. “I was forced to grow up and become an adult so I never got the chance to let the kid within me out. I won’t let this chance pass.”

They all nod and give me a smile. We walk over to a damp spot at the beach and set up the umbrella and chairs. We apply sunscreen to our bodies and I can’t help but shiver. The sunscreen feels cold and the sensation spreads across my body.

Once the sunscreen is fully applied, they all look at me with a smile and gesture me to follow them. I give them a curious look.

“What are we going to do?” I ask.

“We are going to take a dip in the water,” Twilight says and walks over to me, wrapping her right hoof around my left foreleg. “It’ll be okay, I promise you.”

I give her a soft smile and nod softly. Twilight smiles and leads me closer to the water. I begin feeling nervous since I have never taken a dip in the ocean before so I have every right to be nervous.

The sounds of the waves hitting the powdery ground below hits my ears and I feel even more nervous as we step closer and closer to the water. My right hoof makes contact with the water and I flinch. I look to Twilight and see her still giving me a soft smile. We step deeper into the water and I feel myself relax.

The ocean water feels amazing as the waves clashes into my hooves, soaking my regal black fur and flow back into the sea. We are now about 3 feet into the water and I feel... so alive. I begin to giggle and then laugh as I feel this powerful sense of happiness flow throughout my body from feeling the ocean water for the first time in my life.

I am dumbstruck as I feel water hit me on my right side. I look to see the purple pony laughing loudly. I realize that she splashed me with water. I feel a smirk spread across my face as a mischievous idea pops up in my head. Well, then, two can play that game.

“It’s on,” I say before I swing my right foreleg, causing a decent wave of water to come at Twilight and soak her. She looks at me with a smirk as I laugh at her.

For the next few minutes, me and my marefriend splash each other with the sea water and I catch glimpses of the others doing the same thing. Somehow, as if she was some superhero, I catch of Pinkie Pie walking and hopping on the water.

‘How in the world is she doing that?’ I think to myself.

“CANNONBALL!!” Pinkie shouts happily before she leaps into the air and then forms into a ball. I watch with wide eyes as her body falls towards me.

“PINKIE!!” I cry out before she crashes into me and we both fall into the water. When I emerge from the water, I spit out the water that got into my mouth and then grimace.

‘Goodness, it’s really salty,’ I think to myself. I hear a loud splash from behind me and I look to see Pinkie Pie completely soaked.

I give her an annoyed glare.

“Really, Pinkie?” I asked flatly. Pinkie pushes part of her mane away from her face and then smiles goofily at me. I can’t help but smile and laugh at this, my annoyance gone.

In fact, the seven of us laugh together. I don’t know how Pinkie Pie can walk on water and create such a powerful splash, but always, Pinkie Pie will always be Pinkie Pie.

We sit down on the chairs with towels wrapped around our bodies. We spent the past hour splashing and having fun in the water and I have to say only one thing; I am having the time of my life so far.

“You having fun so far, Selina?” Applejack asks. I nod.

“I sure am,” I reply. “I've always heard how fun the beach is, but I have never imagined it would be this fun.”

They all give me a smile and a simple nod before we fall silent for a bit.

“So, what do you girls want to do next?” I ask.

“We can make sandcastles,” Twilight suggests. I give her a curious look.

Sandcastles? Is the powdery stuff called sand? More importantly, how can you make a castle out of sand? It didn’t sound possible. I am becoming quite curious about the so-called ‘sandcastles’. They sound interesting.

“What’s a sandcastle and how do you even make one?” I ask. “If so, how is it even possible?”

“All done!!” we hear Pinkie Pie cry out happily. We all turn and go wide-eye at the sight.

Standing about a good distance from us is a structure made completely out of sand. To top it off, it looks exactly like the Castle of Friendship and it was the same size as the castle as well. Somehow, Pinkie Pie managed to create a perfect sand copy of the castle and she somehow got all the details right.

“Dear goodness gravy,” I mutter in surprise and shock. Pinkie Pie emerges from the sandy doors of the sandcastle and gives us her familiar goofy smile we all know and love.

“What do you think, Selina?” she asks expectantly. “Does it look possible now?”

I raise my right hoof and take a deep breath.

“I am not going to make any comment on this,” I say jokingly. Twilight and the others start laughing as I simply smirk.

“Give it a try,” Pinkie says happily. My smirk disappears and I give them all an unassured look.

“I… I don’t know how to make a sandcastle,” I admit softly.

“I can show you,” Twilight says. She looks down at the sand and smiles.

She levitates a small ball of sand with her magic and with ease, shifts it into a small castle. She rests it softly onto the sand. It has four towers at the corners and a square-shaped structure in the center and is about the size of a small dog.

She turns her attention to me and her smile grows a bit.

“Now you try,” she says. I nod, remove the towel from my body and walk a good distance from them, but make sure that they can see what I am doing.

My bathing suit is still soaked and I can feel it stick to my fur. I shiver as the damp garments of my bathing suit turns cold. I do my best to ignore it and then turn my focus to the sand beneath my hooves.

I levitate a small ball of sand into the air with my magic and try to turn it into a sandcastle. Instead, the ball pops and specks of sand go flying. I turn to look at my friends, giving them an unassured look.

“You can do it, Selina!!” Applejack calls out with reassuring smile. I look away with a determined expression and levitate another small ball of sand with my magic.

I close my eyes and imagine the ball of sand turning into Canterlot Castle. I can hear the sand shifting, but I remain focus. After a moment, the sand stops shifting and I slowly lower the changed sand back down. I open my eyes and smile with triumph.

Standing before me is a small sand structure of Canterlot Castle about the size of a small dog. I did it. I built my first sandcastle and it was… fun!! I feel a rush of excitement flow throughout my body as it all fully sunk in on what I had done.

“I did it!!” I call out happily and turn to them. “I did it!!”

They all come running and see what I made. They all give me a pat on the back, smile at me, and begin to congratulate me.

“Way to go, Selina!” Rainbow says.

“You did great!!” Pinkie says excitedly and gives me a big hug.

“Marvelous job, darling!!” Rarity says. “I must say; you did well on your first try.”

I blush, rise and swing my right hoof downward at the same time Pinkie lets me go. I look over to Twilight and she instantly kisses me in the lips. I respond by kissing her back.

“Okay, can you two wait till you get back to the castle and do it privately, please?” Rainbow asks sarcastically. Me and Twilight end the kiss and laugh mischievously. The others join in laughing shortly afterward.

Just then, the ground shakes and we hear Pinkie’s sandcastle collapse from behind us. We look to see nothing but a huge pile of sand at where Pinkie’s castle once stood.

“Looks like it couldn’t stand the sight of another awesome sandcastle and just decided to become a sandy dune,” I jokingly say.

I look over to Pinkie and see her trying to hold back her giggles. Then, the pink pony erupts into laughter, hops onto her back, and begins rolling back and forth in the sand.

“Sandy dune!!” she shouts and continues laughing loudly. I roll my eyes in amusement at the pink pony’s sense of humor before we all join in laughing with the pink pony.

“This is so very goofy,” I say as Twilight and her friends finish burying my neck in the sand. If anything, my entire body, aside from my head, is buried in sand.

“We do this all the time with Rainbow Dash,” Twilight says. Rainbow rolls her eyes in a jokingly manner and I giggle.

I look to see the Sun beginning its descent down into the horizon.

“Girls, how long does the beach remain open?” I ask. I see the others look to see the Sun lowering into the horizon and a look of disappointment forms on their faces.

“Looks like it’s time for us to get going,” Rarity says glumly.

“Awww, we were having so much fun,” Pinkie says with a pout. I sit up and the sand around my neck and upper body fall off.

“Go wash the sand off, Selina,” Twilight says. I nod and get back on all four hooves.

I walk over to the water and allow it to wash the sand off my body. I smile and let out a sigh. This has been the best day of my life, second to Twilight confessing her feelings for me and starting our relationship. A rush of pure happiness flows throughout my body and I begin laughing in joy.

‘I wish this moment can last forever,’ I think to myself before I walk away from the water and back to my friends, hoping to one day return to the beach and create more memories that will last a lifetime.
