//------------------------------// // The only Chapter // Story: Prank Pull // by onekface //------------------------------// (CHS) (Library) Ah… the library. A quiet, peaceful sanctuary for students to find themselves. A sanctuary for knowledge, a monument to inspiration and invention. A place where geniuses go to reinvent themselves and where unmotivated students go to die. “Arghhh! Come on!” Sadly… Rainbow Dash was one such student. The little sports gal threw her hands up in the air in total defeat as books piled up in front of her like a mountain. “Where is Twilight? She was supposed to meet up with us 10 minutes ago!” Rarity didn’t give her the attention, instead she decided to pour her eyes onto the book in front of her. “She already messaged us that she’ll be running late. She had a last minute tutoring arrangement with Flash. She should be here within the next hour or so.” “But I have soccer practice after school! What are we supposed to do by then!?” “We could start ahead with our project.” The fashionista suggested tapping her nail on the stack of books. “It will be good to do your part in this endeavor rather than goofing around.” “Ugh… but wouldn’t it be better if we all started together? I mean this is Twilight’s plan after all.” “I figure you’d say something like that so I had Twilight write down your part in the project.” Rarity quickly produced a sheet of paper from her bag and handed it over. “It’s nothing too complicated. Even you can’t mess this up.” Rainbow Dash didn’t look eager. “Oh… but…” “No buts, darling. You’re not getting away with this project like you did last semester. We all know that you joined this team because you know Twilight will do all your work.” She paused. “Again…” “Hey. An easy A is an easy A. And you’re not doing any work either. All you’ve been doing is painting your nails and reading that trashy fashion magazine.” She gasped. “This is Canterlot’s Chic! The most informative magazine in the city! It’s not some trashy nonsense. And per your other question, I’ve already done my part.” She showed her work on her papers. “So you have no excuses for your laziness.” “Oh come on. How is my laziness gonna effect our project? Besides… you know as well as I do that Twilight enjoys doing all the work. She’s kind of a creep that way. What kind of a friend would I be if I took away what she likes?” Rarity curled a brow but found it rather difficult to argue. Twilight was a workaholic and absolutely enjoyed every second of studying. It would’ve been a nice trait if it weren’t constantly abused by people like Rainbow Dash. “True. But this is a TEAM effort Dashy, and therefore you WILL put in your part in this project – or so help me I will ask A.K. Yearling to delay the release of the next Daring Do book by another hour.” Rainbow Dash gasped. “WHAT!? No way. You’re bluffing. You couldn’t possibly know A.K. Yearling.” “Oh I’m afraid I do darling.” She whipped out her phone and pulled a photo from the gallery. “You see, during our little adventure in the studios, I had the honor of designing the dresses for that Daring Do movie: The Galloping Gala. A.K. Yearling needed a line for the dresses and she saw my designs in the Light Parade in Equestria World. She looked me up and hired me on the spot. We’ve been text pals ever since.” “You wouldn’t dare.” She whipped out her phone and began typing. “Dear Ms. Yearling. I’ve would like to humbly request…” “Ok ok ok! Stop!” Rainbow submitted. “I’ll do it! Geez.” That was what she claimed at least. But sadly reality didn’t have such imagination. Rainbow tried really. She tried her best. But when something did not hold her interest, she was bound to lose focus. Rarity kept track as best she could but the multi-colored-haired girl could not keep still. When the fifth minute rolled by Rainbow Dash submitted defeat against the books and her fall deteriorated from there. By ten minutes she began to stack books together like a house of cards. By fifteen she began to hide comics in her textbook. By twenty she lined the books in a pattern and tipped them down like dominos. Suffice to say she wasn’t getting anything done. “Oh for goodness sake!” Rarity groaned annoyingly when she saw her friend make a bed for herself using all the books in the area. The girl was down for the count, snoozing peacefully at a page of Dummies’ Guide to Studying. Looks like she’ll have to call A.K. Yearling after all. Sorry Dashy. But if you won’t learn your lesson, then you have to be properly punished. … Unless… Rarity hunched over Rainbow’s snoozing form, popping an idea. She glanced around noting that the library was pretty much empty at this point. Teehee… With a mischievous chuckle, the fashionista brought out her manicure set and got to work on Rainbow’s nails. Rainbow would never ever let her nails get done in like this. She always considered it to be too… frufru for her liking. Even a simple nail polish would have her freaking out like someone was trying to saw her leg in half. Rarity gave it a bit of a posh, allocating just enough force to apply the color but not enough to wake her up. A little bit of blue here, some cute star shape there. OH! And a purple unicorn just to make things interesting. And there. A masterpiece for the ages. When Rainbow wakes up, she’ll be so happy that she’ll be begging Rarity for a pedicure too. In fact… She may as well do it. Oh but these shoes won’t do. And those shorts she wore just did not have the style. And… are those… last year’s antoire shirts? Goodness gracious. How Rainbow Dash gets out of bed every morning is a miracle in its own right. This girl needs a full on makeover. And as one of her best friends, it’s her duty to ensure that she is given the very best treatment! With a dash and sprint the fashionista grabbed her tools from the band room and made herself a little studio with Rainbow Dash as her unwilling lifeless model. She cast her barrier magic around the sleeping beauty to bring her up for a little measurement. A little blush on the cheeks never hurt anyone, and this shade of lipstick would go super well with her hair. Oh! And don’t forget the mascara. You can’t leave without adding a little mascara. Hmm… speaking of hair. What kind of style would go with her blunt attitude? OH! Pig tails! Braids! Clip-ons! A little bit of hair gel, some hair spray to make them all stick together, a little snip of the scissors here, and a tiny dose of perfume… and there. Uh… hmm… She’s beautiful. But she can still be gorgeous. What else can I add? Jewels! Yes, crystals, diamonds, glitters, fringe and applique. Yes yes yes! Rarity reached for her purse and out came a load of gemstones, rings and necklaces. How she was able to carry all that in one bag was anyone’s guess. But she didn’t care about that right now. Putting on a few bracelets, some emerald hair clips, and enough rings to make the sun glitter, Rarity turned her friend from a fashion masterpiece, to the world’s wackiest disco ball. And now for the final touch. A Best Friend Forever tiara. A rather uncouth object made personally by Pinkie Pie during their arts and craft lessons. And with that… she… was…… done! A fine work if I do say so myself. It was tough arranging everything so neatly on a sleeping client but it’ll have to do. Just in time too because the last school bell just rang. Like a girl on a timer, Rainbow Dash awoke, wiping a sliver of drool that ran down her mouth. Groggily she got up eyes shooting wide when she caught a glimpse of the clock. “It’s after school!” She declared loudly before bolting off to the door nearly tackling Twilight in the process. “Hey!” “Sorry Twi. Gotta go. Soccer practice!” The little nerd fixed her glasses before she could give an answer. “Uh… ok?” She gave a curious look at first before turning to the fashionista. “Was that… Rainbow Dash? How is she so…” “Glamorous? Beautiful? Amazed? And out of this world?” Rarity smugly stated. “Why yes. And it was all in an hour’s work.” Twilight raised a brow. “You know she’s gonna kill you, right?” “Whatever do you mean?” Rarity replied, looking all innocent. “I merely provided Rainbow Dash a service. After all that tomboyish style she’s been donning all year long, it was high time someone gave her a makeover. Why… I wouldn’t be surprised if she came back with all smiles.” And no sooner did she said those words that Rainbow’s voice boomed. “RARITY!!!!!!!” “See? That’s the sound of gratitude.” “Is it?” Twilight didn’t seem convinced. A few seconds later Rainbow would return, panting heavily with a deep scowl decorating her face. “Ah Rainbow Dash. I see you noticed my handiwork.” Rarity waved it off casually. “No need to thank me. I was more than happy to provide you with a semblance of culture. It’s what friends do afte… Rainbow? Darling? Uh… why are you looking at me like that…? What are you doing with my – P… put that clipper down dear. That’s not a toy. I bought that from the store the other day and it’s very expen…… Rainbow? Sweetie? D… don’t come any closer! Can we talk this over? Hello?” Rarity’s scream would haunt the school library for weeks to come. A few minutes later the three girls would sit over by the table with Twilight at its head. The nerdy gal would glance between the walking disco ball and the… very hairless Rarity who grunted in her seat. “So… with that out of the way. Let’s get started with our school project.
