//------------------------------// // Late night worries (Updated 1/20/2023) // Story: A Late Night Chat // by ScisetShimmerEvan //------------------------------// It had been a long week for the Main seven at CHS. Finals were approaching in the coming week. There were tests to study for, exams to be prepared for, as well as plenty of studying planned. Sunset happened to be the one who was taking it more seriously than the rest of them. Twilight was especially surprised out of all of them. She usually was the one who does it. But for once it wasn't. After spending the last few days studying for her exams, Twilight decided Sunset needed the weekend away from studying. She denied it at first but knew she wanted to spend some time with her girlfriend. She did ask if they could get squeeze in some study time into their weekend but her offer was denied. Twilight wanted to focus on getting Sunset less stressed about graduation as it was getting close as she knew the studying would make her think she wasn't graduating. But in reality, she was. Twilight could tell Sunset was hiding her feelings about it as best as possible, just by all her studying she's done. Twilight wanted to find out if graduation was still worrying her as she carried very much for her girlfriend. When they arrived back at their apartment after school that day, Twilight’s mother Velvet stopped to drop some stuff off for Twilight before leaving to get some errands done. Even though Twilight no longer lived with her family, she still visited her parents whenever she found the time in her busy schedule. After spending the next three and a half hours going over some studying for their Geometry and Calculus finals, the couple decided to call it a day for studying and watch a movie and order some takeout. Sunset ordered them some pizza while Twilight selected a movie for them to watch. After their movie ended, they noticed how late it was and decided to call it a night as they needed their rest following their first week of final studying. After taking turns with the shower and changing into their pajamas, they crawled into bed, and eventually fell right to sleep after their long week at school. But not entirely. Twilight was the only one asleep out of the two of them. She had fallen asleep with Sunset’s arm wrapped around her like a stuffed animal while smiling in her sleep. She then began whispering Sunset’s name a few times which surprisingly made Sunset laugh a bit. But as cute as it was Sunset continued to stay awake. She couldn’t seem to fall asleep as the clock ticked minute by minute. Her mind was flowing with stress and thoughts about her future. No matter how hard she tried to think of something positive, her thoughts always went back to her life following CHS. After spending forty-five minutes listening to Twilight’s snoring, couldn’t find a way to get herself to sleep, Sunset decided to get some fresh air to get her thoughts on the right track. As she stepped outside onto her patio, Sunset was met with a cold breeze that blew through her hair. She shivered a little before looking around at the many buildings that were lit up throughout the city. She took several deep breaths to calm herself before thinking about a possible idea of what she should do once she graduated from CHS. She decided to stay in this world and take occasional visits to her old home Equestria. Either to visit Princess Celestia or Princess Twilight. She was continuing her stay in the human because of the friends she’s made, her girlfriend aka Sci Twi, finding the remaining artifacts from Equestria, and the source of where the wild equestrian magic that's been leaking into the dimension. But when thinking about her relationship with Twilight, Sunset began worrying if something might happen to them after graduating from CHS. What if they end up breaking up? What if she ran into her human counterpart and Twilight falls in love with her? Sunset started to feel left out because of that thought of hers. She was a stranger to this world, so should she remain in this world with her counterpart still there? If she were, she'd have many obstacles to go through. The biggest would be attending college with hopes of finding a career she'd like. But that was gonna be hard. There were many things she had an interest in but deciding on which one was the problem. Sunset did love making art and paintings but she wasn’t sure she’d succeed doing that. She enjoys video games and even though she’d try becoming a video game designer by working for a certain company. But that sounded even more complicated than she thought. All these thoughts of hers were now giving her a headache, but she pressed on to think of something to let her worries be put to rest. “What do I do with my future? I-I don’t even know what career I want to major in! I never thought my life would change after coming to this place all these years ago! I don’t even know if Twilight can even help me with this?” At this point, Sunset was just lost in her thoughts, she wasn’t sure what to do with her future. She began feeling tears come down her face before she eventually released her flood of tears. Twilight awoke to the sound of someone crying before noticing Sunset was missing on the opposite side of the bed. She could see the door to Sunset’s patio was wide open and could hear Sunset crying. After grabbing her glasses, slippers, and a blanket, Twilight proceeded to Sunset’s patio, hoping she could help calm her girlfriend's worries. When she stepped onto the patio, Sunset didn’t even notice her til Twilight wrapped her blanket around Sunset. “Are you ok Sunset? What’s the matter? Did you have a nightmare again?” “Sniff I’m fine Twilight. I couldn’t sleep, that's all.” But Twilight could tell Sunset was lying. “Sunset Shimmer, I know you're lying to me.” “No, I’m not, it’s the truth.” “Sunset, whenever you lie your left eye twitches three times. And that’s when I can tell that you're hiding something from me.” Sunset realized she needed to share these thoughts now more than ever. Twilight would continue to ask her what was going on through that head of hers. She was just trying to make her feel better. That way, she wasn't worrying about her girlfriend. “Alright, Twilight you got me. The reason I’m out here and crying is that I’m...” “Your what?” “I’m worried about my future. With the seven of us graduating in less than two weeks, I’m scared about my future. The changes that will happen. Not seeing our friends all the time. And the colleges they'll be going to for the next few years. But for me, I don’t know what I want to pursue in life, or where I should go?” Twilight could tell this was what Sunset was hiding from her. And it was a lot worse than she thought it would be. “I know how you feel, Sunset. I’m scared just as much as you are. But there are times in our lives we have to deal with these changes. Whether we like it or not. Sometimes the sacrifices we make will turn out not so bad as we think they will.” “But this is all new to me, Twilight? I spent many years as a student for Princess Celestia before I came here. I can’t stop thinking about what might happen if we ever meet my counterpart if she learns of my existence. It worries me that you might fall in love with her and love her more than me.” Sunset soon started to cry again before Twilight grabbed ahold of her. Sunset was startled by Twilight and could she was upset at her. “Sunset Shimmer, look at me! LOOK AT ME!” Sunset soon did so as her crying stopped when Twilight got her attention. “I’d never leave you. You’ve helped me so much since the Friendship Games. I don’t want to leave you Sunset. You have no family left. You don’t have many places to go other than our apartment and Equestria. There’s no one out there that can replace the Sunset I love very much. And that one is you." Twilight shared, as she wiped a tear-off Sunset’s face. “Yo-you mean it Twilight?” “Yes Sunset, all of it. You mean everything to me. Which is why I’m gonna help you find your new career for your future. You're gonna need all the help you can get if you want to find a goal in life. Because in my heart, I know you’ll find it.” “But, it’s my future, shouldn’t I try doing this on my own as I should?” “Everyone needs help when they need it, Sunset. And right now, I think you need some.” Sunset smiled happily at Twilight before she hugged her girlfriend in the process. Twilight stroked Sunset’s hair before releasing the last of her tears from her system. When she started to hiccup from all the crying she knew she had no tears left. “Come on, let’s go inside. It’s late and it’s getting quite chilly out here. We have another day ahead of us coming. And we'll need our rest.” “Ok Twilight.” She smiled happily at Sunset as she led her sleepy girlfriend back inside while the stars twinkled above them. After getting back into bed Sunset still looked a bit upset. That was til she felt Twilight’s arm wrap around her shoulder. “So, the main reason you wanted to be with me this weekend is because of the worrying I caused you?” “Mhm. I could tell something was worrying you. I wasn’t surprised at all that it involved your future. My brother felt the same when he was getting close to finishing high school himself.” “He did? How did your family handle it?” “Shinning Armor gave it some time to think it over before deciding to do a career as a police officer. While he originally was a part of Crystal Prep for a while he felt more comfortable with the police academy. He was proud of his decision and it was all thanks to telling me and my parents before he began college that fall.” “That explains why you knew I was worried about something.” “Yep. That, and I do care a lot about you Sunset. You're the only person I’ve ever felt such a connection with in my entire life. And I don’t ever want to leave you. Especially since you don’t have any family left. I don’t care what many people would say to me that I’m dating you. As long as I’m with you, I’ll always be happy. You’re the spark in my heart that’ll never fade away.” “Neither do I Twi, neither don’t I. I feel the same for the love I have for you.” They smiled at each other before they decided to get some shut-eye, as the time was a little after two in the morning. As Sunset adjusted herself in her bed a few more of her worried thoughts came back into her mind. “Twilight, do you think we might ever meet my counterpart? And if so, what should we do when it happens?” “I wouldn’t worry about it Sunset. It’s best to take it one day at a time, and not worry about it till it happens. Alright?” “Understood. But thanks for helping me. Sometimes it’s hard to control your stress and emotions. Especially since I’m the Element of Empathy.” “Everyone needs help in their life Sunset. And I will always be here to lend you a hand when you need it. That's a promise.” Sunset began to feel very tired finally and within a few seconds had fallen fast asleep. Twilight tucked Sunset in more and held her in her arms once more. She could hear her breathing, noticing how calm it now was. It was a good sign their late-night chat had ended on a positive note. “I love you Sunset. Sleep tight.” Twilight was soon asleep herself as she was happy to see Sunset stress-free and that their weekend was gonna be just fine. The next morning Twilight was up bright and early for once. She decided to make breakfast for Sunset that morning to start their weekend off on a positive note. She got the ingredients she needed from their kitchen while doing her best not to wake her girlfriend up. A few minutes later Sunset awoke to the smell of scrambled eggs and toast being made. Just as she was waking up she spotted Twilight walking up the steps with a tray in her hands. “Morning Sunset. Hungry?” Twilight laid the tray on Sunset’s lap of the breakfast she had made for her, There was toast, a pile of scrambled eggs, an orange, and some tea to wash it all down. “What’s with the breakfast? You could have waited til I got up to make it?” “You deserve a day of relaxation Sunset. You’ve been working very hard lately for finals next week. I think you deserve a weekend off from studying.” “But aren’t you the one who would rather study over relax?” “Well yes, but we all need it from time to time. And right now, I think you need it the most,” Twilight replied as she kissed Sunset before she got a blush in return. “Thanks, Twilight.” “Of course, now why don’t you get started on your breakfast before it gets cold? I hope you like it.” Thanks, Twilight” Sunset said as she took a bite of her toast. Twilight soon headed back down to make herself some breakfast before she felt her arm being pulled away and Sunset bringing her back to bed. “Sunset? What’s wrong?” “Is it alright if we can, maybe just stay here for now? And then head out later?” Twilight let off a small smile, seeing how Sunset had accepted some time off. “Whatever you want Sunset.” Sunset began to cry with her girlfriend next to her. But this time, it was tears of happiness. Twilight then brought her up for another hug as she smelled Sunset’s hair. It smelled lovely of berries. “Thank you Twilight. I love you.” “I love you too Sunset.” On the outskirts of the city, we find a young girl, presumably in her late teens. She had red and gold hair that glowed in the sunlight. She was going through the forest like she was searching for something. She looked to be furious about something, but no one was sure why. She got to the top of the hill she was climbing before looking down t the city she saw below. "Another city huh? I wonder what surprises are awaiting me next. Well, look out, 'cause Sunset Shimmer is coming!" To be Continued…
